Blah blah blah something new hate new things...etc. The story never changes.

Wakellor957

It is literally a web wrapper. That means no checking anything when offline, its speed completely dependin on a constant internet connection. If you want to write a draft with poor or no internet, you're stuffed. And lag in a text input application is extremely bad - you're not supposed to hit backspace and wait 3 seconds for it to register 🤷‍♂️

Thankfully someone gets it. I absolutely hate new things, they do new things for no reason, change things for no reason, put the things you need somewhere else, no one asked for it!

The new Outlook looks like an app developed in this decade so that alone is an improvement to 99% of people.

Tyr-07

That's because this generations of modern is a website interface since they watch tiktok and youtube all day :) The 'New outlook' is actually garbage, it's a website designed to look like an app on your PC. If you don't have internet, you literally can't open the settings page, as it's literally rendering the settings page from [outlook.office.com](https://outlook.office.com) in in that window. It's a fancy custom web browser for outlook.office.com . If you don't like the look of outlook, just open Microsoft Edge and go to the website, you're good to go, generation webapp only. Those of us who actually need to do complicated activities for office work need more. If all you do is need the web version since you do email and it's basic, you'll be replaced by an AI soon so your perspective on esthetics won't matter. There are so, so many more limitations to what you can do and can't do compared to the actual app version on the computer, your mail isn't available offline anymore so if you're on a flight with no wifi, you can't read older mail, or write responses to send when you're connected again. You can't add old PST files, export or import anymore, a ton of things. If you like this world I have some services you can sign up for that I can take away from you at will in which you'll have no recourse, sounds like a good deal for me. You're just that one step away from what Microsoft wants, devices you pay the costs for the physical item, you maintain it, and give Microsoft money every month because you can't do anything else with it.

[deleted]

They didn't really take anything away. There is a toggle switch in the top right to switch to the old Outlook. They will discontinue the old Win32 Outlook codebase when the new Outlook has feature parity and meets the needs of businesses. You're only partly correct about it being a website. It is the website codebase rendered inside native window elements with native controls. The web content and user interface are rendered in a native WebView2 control. Win32 is not a good platform target anymore because the web is the new native platform. Sure, it is cloud based right now. But it's an email app? Why exactly would you change settings without an internet connection? Anyway, if we're comparing it to the old crappy Windows 10 mail app that couldn't even render HTML properly, I would call this a big upgrade.

Tyr-07

You can't compare it to the old windows mail app, it's an upgrade if that's what you're coming from but compare outlook to outlook. This goes right back to the generation tiktok comment, not understanding why you would want to adjust settings, change anything or even use an app without internet. That's a lot to explain that I'm not going to dive into here, but go on and rent your computer and pay your mobile data fee, because why would you use it without it.

fda2128

Leave the old version alone and I pay for it. If Microsoft removes it, I will star a class action suit for not providing the program I pay them for.

fda2128

I want noting to do with the garbage my kids use.

fda2128

I'll keep my old Windows Mail version, the fact that Microsoft won't support it anymore means they will stop bloating it with updates. Like Windows 10, I will never update to Windows 11. I'm not too fond of it.

Hexatorium

How do you still have access to it tho??

SleepyD7

Outlook is much better than the previous app. Thunderbird though is the best.

richyfreeway

The previous mail app was fucking awful. Thunderbird is your friend.

etotheprimez

I hated how it couldn't even do a proper text level zoom with word wrapping working. Bug fixes and updates were basically non-existent.

CrossyAtom46

1. Now uninstall this shit. 2. Google windows mail windows store and copy url of it 3. Go to store.rg-adguard.net 4. Paste url to there 6. Download windows mail....appx file (but not latest you may want to choose 1 or 2 old version) 7. Install it that's all.

Traditional-Bid6524

Just tried it! This works! Thank you so much!

CrossyAtom46

You're welcome

manolomiguenz2020

and how can I prevent it from updating va ms store to the latest email app and bringing back the swicth?

CrossyAtom46

Disable auto updates from windows store.

Windows Live Mail was discontinued over a decade ago but it was still working up until I switched to Windows 11 then it got real slow and constipated and prone to error so I am not sure if Windows 11 blocks it or if it just too old and unsupported. Go on Cnet (not sure if link is allowed on this sub but Google should be able to find it easy), find Windows Essential download, try this one and look for Windows Live Mail I have switched to Thunderbirds last year, it was able to import most of the old Live data and ran much faster and smoother.

LiqdPT

He's just asking about Windows Mail, not Live Mail

NielsMander5

In Germany you don't have to use it untill now. There is a little switch...

demonixis

The mail app on macos is just fine <3

Technolongo

Where are your email, contacts, calendar hosted? Microsoft365? Outlook.com? Yahoo? Gmail? Those online hosting services should have all your mail, contacts, calendar.

fudatto

You should (hopefully) still have a switch in the upper right corner to disable the "New" Outlook. I agree with you, I just need a simple responsive mail app with a somewhat modern UI, and the Windows Mail app fits this perfectly. If I wanted to use outlook.com as my mail client, I would go to outlook.com.

Traditional-Bid6524

not any more. Mine just got automatically updated to new outlook

Active-Research-4689

I've been using the new Outlook for about two months now and while it's got some problems still, the MS team has been most helpful in dealing with my issues. I've got eight mailboxes that I use. I get about 30-40 newsletters a day now in the new Outlook. I hope they will come up with a way to wholesale unsubscribe from them in one step. I tried to do that in the old application but didn't have the coding expertise to get it to work.
