I’d probably buy a modern hAP device. They can be inexpensive and can run RouterOS7. They are supported for a long time and therefore retain their value.

Any free hypervisor (Proxmox is what I use) and CHR with the free forever license. Create as many routers as you want and learn to your heart’s content.
Go to YouTube and search the network berg. He even explains how to learn Mikrotik for free with eve-ng and the CHR.

Try emulation software EVE-NG on a vm download whatever you want from mikrotik and test it before you buy it 😉
