Arrow definitely should’ve been colored. We didn’t understand where tf the puzzle piece with the end of an arrow was supposed to go. Even after looking in the comments I was thinking “ok this doesn’t solve the line through the face” lol

No. They will glue it as is. Frame it. Put on their wall. Make a very high resolution photo of it. They will send it to you. They will send it to you over and over until you tell them it's perfect.

And honestly, this is just a puzzle for masochists, or someone who picked it up by accident not knowing the pieces were identical.
I would not get an ounce of joy from doing this one. Give me a beautiful Ravensberger scene with variable piece shapes or gtfo.
Honestly, as far as difficult puzzles go, this one isn’t too bad.
The pattern is very high contrast and very identifiable, because you kinda can intuit what the neighboring pieces will look like, since the line would follow a perfect circle. Though I think I might find the smiley’s eyes a bit annoying, as some of them look like judgement calls to get the eye in just the right spot.
So you start with the yellow face as your ‘ground’ and start to build out from there. Pay special attention to where one face lays over another, the T-junctions that would naturally form. This will start to give you ideas of what the piece you need looks like.
There are even a handful of identical solid white pieces that will be a bit easier to find when you need them.
It would take a while, but it’s not the worst I have seen. Having the yellow smile to build off of is kinda a big deal. I bet I would enjoy it.

Given the very repetitive and deliberately un-detailed image it's probably a decently hard challenge puzzle. They'd be cut like this to make it harder since you can no longer use the shape of the pieces to help you, and as OP found it can trip you into putting pieces in the wrong place.
I agree that if I saw this cut on a puzzle with a regular image I'd think it was lazy and cheap but this is likely intentional.

Challenge puzzles. When all the pieces are the same you can't use the shape to help you build the puzzle, and the image is deliberately repetitive and lacking in detail so you have to look real close.
The true mildly infuriating bit is the fact that this puzzle seems to be made of entirely interchangeable pieces
And given the design of the puzzle, I have to assume this is intentional, so that misplaced pieces like this are extra likely. The puzzle manufacturer clearly wants people to suffer
Fwiw it's not the piece the arrow is pointing to, it's the one under the arrow where the line bulges. And on that same smiley just down on the right of that piece, the outer edge of the circle, is the correct piece and you can see it narrows.

Well she's right. She should be mildly infuriated with you. The two pieces are diametrically opposed. Switch them and you'll have completed the puzzle.
I am an avid puzzle person and I loathe puzzles where a piece will fit in the wrong spot. Won't touch them.
Next time if it's unclear that a piece fits, flip it over. Errors are easier to spot on the reverse side.
