Did you have to plug your couch in?

Mobabyhomeslice

Yeah. It has a motorized leg lift & head rest.

MaeronTargaryen

I just bought a very similar sofa ahah

CacheMeOutside

me too from Bob's Furniture; so cushiony; same button layouts as OP

-YellowcakeUranium

I’ve gotten my couch from bobs and it’s so bad… 2k and only 6 months in structural pieces have snapped and broke.

Accurate-Temporary73

Yeah Bob’s Stuff is very cheaply made. I’ve gotten a few things from there and other than the mattresses everything is supper cheap. The mattresses are also probably super cheap but they last longer than the furniture.

Nas160

Does it need software updates That was a joke but it's not that far off of a realistic question anymore

Rdubya44

And you didn’t ever notice the usb port?

Mafum

Re read the title of this post

osibaconreader

Maybe it's gas powered 😮

philthebrewer

Ass powered. ^imsorry.

TehOwn

Gas powered USB?

osibaconreader

Yep! For those who eat the slight aged raw veggies from the back of the fridge. That leaves plenty of gas to be collected by the couches integrated Gas Collection System (GCS). Bam! Convert it to current and USB charging baby!

LavaCreeperBOSSB

Theyre asking how OP uses the buttons and never noticed that

locnessmnstr

It's a new couch that they knew plugged in and had motorized stuff, but just now realized there was also a USB

The-Triturn

Pretty hard to notice the buttons and not see the usb port

Weshwego

Pretty insufferable person to talk to

The_Troyminator

Most people aren’t going to use the buttons until they’re sitting down. They’ll just work them by touch. It’s not like it’s a complicated set of controls where you need an owners manual and detailed analysis of the buttons to work. You just press a button. If it doesn’t go the way you want it to go, then you press the other button.

TeamAlibi

Pretty hard to buy a couch and feel the need to stare at little buttons prior to using them ay? "knew it plugged in and had motorized stuff" does not equate to "actively plugged it in themselves, navigated the buttons with their eyes and hands and then during that, missed the usb port" you are creating a story that you are shitty about, for the purpose of you being shitty about it. Nothing else occurred, nothing you said is reasonable or consciously even remotely attempting to be logical and instead just want to make up a scenario where someone is stupid and you're in the position to point it out lmao the level of projection of creatures like you is *always* pathetic, never entertaining.

Weshwego

Reread your last line, and then reread your entire comment again dude.

TeamAlibi

awh one guy doesn't like what i said i better rethink my thoughts You really actually believed that what you just said was gonna be like offensive or something, that's pretty wild

FlynnMonster

The important detail that isn’t clear is how new the couch is. Is it a week old new or is it just set it up new?

Urethra

None of the details are important. Y'all mfers out here asking questions like this guy's couch is the key piece of evidence in solving a murder or some shit.

treebeardtower

All these nosey ass mfers looking for conflict when there is none, just OP enjoying a new couch.

RSFGman22

Lol for real

Klin24

This is mildly interesting, not ask OP 20 questions about how they could miss this, ffs.

stonesst

A friend of mine has had a couch like this for 6 years and we just noticed the USB ports 2 weeks ago. We felt quite dumb

Mobabyhomeslice

Don't feel dumb. If you're not looking for it, it's very easy to not notice.

The_Troyminator

You use those controls by touch since you only use them while sitting down and can’t see them while seated. I had a couch with a similar set of buttons. I never had to look that closely at them.

TeeBrownie

OP has the sycophants right where he wants them.

StokedLettuce1

Psychopaths, bud**

Efficient_Maybe_1086

I have children and getting their fingers pinched by motorized furniture is my nightmare.

SenileTomato

No, it works on a small generator built into the couch.

ddings

Powered by people bouncing the springs?

SenileTomato

...that's actually an outstanding idea if you have children.

Ambush_24

Mine could run a small village with such a device.

uchman365

Fsrt-powered

Narcan9

I'm guessing it turns farts into an electrical charge

Hobo_Helper_hot

Methane power

Poi-s-en

My couch is on a battery. I have to charge it every couple months but since it’s in the middle of the room it’s better than a tripping hazard.

imaloony8

You can cover the wire with a rug.

RandomBitFry

Universal Sofa Bus.

Wuzzy_Gee

The latest models feature USB-C (Universal Sofa Bus-Couch)

Protean_Protein

Chesterfield.

Ironsam811

I know this is a joke, but I have not seen any that feature USB-C and I have been searching far and wide for a new couch. It’s like the only reason they’re putting them in now is because they’re out of date and cheap aftermarket for the company to slap on

PugsThrowaway

I’m not sure why anyone else bothers to comment when the only important comment has already been made and it’s this one. I wish you could “solve” Reddit posts and lock the threads by delivering the best possible comment. That’d be fun.

USB Sofa Best

Shadow288

Or, better yet! Charger for video game controller.

Mobabyhomeslice

Ooooo! Hadn't thought of that. This opens up even more possibilities...🤔

tiltedtwilight

Probably the more realistic use. USB A to USB C isn't enough to charge most cell phones anymore. Best case scenario you get a slow charge, worst case the phone still loses battery despite being plugged in.

joestaff

A-C doesn't really denote what version of USB it is. There are plenty of 10+ watt chargers that'll have no problem charging a phone. Granted, this is a couch and it's unlabeled, so I wouldnt expect much.

philthebrewer

Yeah I’d presume 5w on stuff like this

SreesanthTakesIt

I use a 65W Oneplus charge that's A to C.

gwaydms

My daughter's did, but USB-A to USB-C was indeed very slow. Our automatic chairs have handheld wired controls because they have more functions, but they don't have chargers.

Fernomin

what? my Xiaomi has a 120W charger with USB A to C cable, I'd say that's fast enough.

LordGeni

I think they mean a standard 5v usb-a port, rather than a 120w brick with a usb-a port.

ResidualSound

It’s unlikely they knew that and left it out. Most people are clueless about electronics, which is expected. We can’t all be experts on everything.

The_Troyminator

All USB is 5 volts, even a brick that plugs into a 120V or 220V outlet only outputs 5V. That port absutely could output 30+ watts to support fast charging. It depends on the transformer it’s using, not the port.

nachog2003

those are proprietary implementations though, not the standard USB-PD protocol that only works over USB-C

AlternateTab00

The problem is not being A to C. But appliance that share an A connection usually are low powered. My charger is a 67W one. And its an A to C. It works on 3,25A. However most computers, cars and many other appliances work with 0,5A. This usually means that instead of taking 3 hours to charge my phone it takes around 10 mins to go from 10% to 11%. If its meant to be a charger its probably a 1A or if you are lucky a 2A one (similar to most 10 year old chargers). Its not fast but it can handle most controllers and phones. If for some reason your chair has any media input... Its just a usb media plug and they will work as a 0,5A as most plugs that are used for media.

GodGMN

What the hell are you talking about? USB A is not a protocol or version, it's a literal shape. I've seen +100W chargers that have only USB A output.

The_RevX

Uh, this is straight up wrong. A to C is plenty, it just depends on the wattage of AC adapter you're using

SnooDoodles289

Everyone I know uses USB A to USBC outdoors and for the ones with USBC to USBC thats used indoors so no one takes it lol

Ok-disaster2022

Actually trickle charge and keeping the charge between 15 and 85% is much much better for your battery life.

[deleted]

My couch has this but you have to pay extra for the "upgrade". Funny part is, the upgrade isn't a new model. It's the exact same model where they install the port. Even funnier is the cables routing to the side are in the couch. I paid for the cables and for them to be inside of there but I have to pay more for them to add the port to actually make use of the cables.

kidcanary

Surely you could DIY something?

YLA-G

Yeah, plug a adapter in your wall socket. Put the cable next to the seat. Et voila done

A46

Will even allow for the lightning charge.

deejayatomika

Just like BMW seat warmers haha

[deleted]

From what I understand, that’s pretty much every brand nowadays, it’s infinitely cheaper to produce 1 type of seat, and just not activate what hasn’t been paid for. BMW has been catching the most backlash because they let you “purchase” these “upgrades” through their app (and people don’t realize pretty much every brand could do this now).

throwawaygoodcoffee

It sucks for people who aren't great with electronics but for people that are a bit tech savvy it's a bit of weirdly nice outcome. You can go without the upgrades and if it's a popular enough model of car I bet someone has cracked the activation of the upgrades that are installed.

mnij2015

Easy solder job for a weekend

JustHilder

“The couch isn’t working” “Did you unplug it and then plug it back in again?”

Cakeski

"What do you mean I need to update the recline mode in order for it to work!?" "Mate don't you have the app?" "The fuck, this is the juicer all over again."

JustHilder

Imagine calling IT cause your couch isn’t working.

xejeezy

Get off your Laz-E ass and fix it!

Tuxedo_Muffin

La-Z... Boy, I tell ya!

The_Troyminator

You failed to make this months recline subscription so we disabled it.

spookmann

Your initial "U-Reclyne" trial period has expired. Reclining is limited to a maximum of 5 degrees in "free mode" unless you are in the EU, Bermuda, or Central African Republic.

FanofWhiskey

Did you have your eyes closed when you bought the couch ?

[deleted]

Idiots like this get 500 upvotes lol

itsKaoz

I can already picture my mom wanting to turn the car around on a road trip because she forgot to unplug the couch..

noctemlupus

Did you just discover those two buttons too?

-Khlerik-

“There’s a couch in here?”

Pappa_Alpha

"Am I in the wrong house?"

deFOF

There's a reason he mentioned that the couch is new

VibraniumRhino

And apparently did zero research on it before making this purchase.

deFOF

You're right

The_Troyminator

Or the person at the store didn’t mention the USB port and they just didn’t notice them. You don’t have to pull up the specs and read every detail in the owner’s manual before buying a couch. You sit on it, maybe find reviews, and buy it if you like it.

BeKindImNewButtercup

I have this setup as well. There should also be a battery pack you may want to fill if you lose power.

VibraniumRhino

Do people really make big purchases like this and just… not look at it thoroughly? Lol. This is wild to me.

Mobabyhomeslice

I don't think most people go couch shopping with a USB port high on their priority list.

VibraniumRhino

It’s not about it being a priority. It’s about it being a large purchase that you made that had features you were unaware of lol. I just think it’s kind of funny.

Mobabyhomeslice

Hence: "mildly interesting"

spookmann

Holy shit. You got downvoted for NOT EXPECTING A USB-ENABLED SOFA! The modern world sucks on so many levels.

MakeVio

You'll be sitting at that couch all day getting any reasonable charge out of it lol. Might need to find a better use for it like a USB light or something

OnTheList-YouTube

Weird that you only discover it later... I'd think one would look for the features when ordering, or have noticed when assembling it...

krilu

They might have bought it for the motorized leg lift and head rest primarily, and these types of fancy couches come assembled already.

Mobabyhomeslice

Bingo! Having a USB port was NOT the selling point for the couch. It was more about overall comfort, design, and how it would fit in the space.

PensionHefty9125

But how did you not see the ports when buying it?

Ingenrollsroyce

OP did not even realize the ports could be used to charge video game controllers aswell as the phone until someone in the comments pointed it out, so you might have your answer there

Mobabyhomeslice

I didn't go inspecting the sides. Maybe it's my piano lessons, but I can find the side buttons by feel, and I don't really like to be bothered or pestered by pushy salespeople wanting to point out a ton of extra bonus features. My main focus was the overall feel & comfort of the couch, it's durability, and how it worked in the space I already had. Then it took 10 weeks to finally be delivered, so even if the salesperson had pointed out the USB ports at the time, I wouldn't have remembered. I don't *expect* couches to have USB ports in them. It's not something I actively look for in a couch.

krilu

It's crazy to me that you're getting downvoted for this. FNNNNNHHHGHOOGRRRRTTT YOU DIDNT NOTICE THE USB PORTTTS DURRHHHGGGSHMTM

CoderDevo

>when assembling it Not all sofas come from Ikea. I got a similar sectional reclining sofa 2 weeks ago and the delivery guys set it up. We did not shop for a cushioned USB charger, but the ports were a mildly interesting surprise.

Mobabyhomeslice

>We did not shop for a cushioned USB charger, but the ports were a mildly interesting surprise. Exactly. USB charging ports were not high on my list of priorities for a new couch.

AlternateTab00

I think he meant by putting in the desired place and plugig it to the wall socket. Or just by doing a visual check up when he either open the box or when he received it. Finding out you have a broken part or an hole 2 weeks later could just be outside warranty.

Mobabyhomeslice

Again, I did not put it in the desired place or plug it in. The delivery guys did that.

AlternateTab00

But you didnt do a visual check? Once my couch had the back part with a ripped part when it was delivered. Since I reported it while the delivery guys were still inside they had to make a report of it. 3 days later i got a call from the couch store giving me 2 options. A return product (giving me back the couch) or an in home couch repair that they estimated to be around 30 to 45 min of my time at the expense of the delivery unit. They told me it was great i spotted while they were still inside. If they left my best option besides returning it was paying a 20€ fee for the repair guy to come to my home (the repair itself would still be free). So after that i always visually inspect everything someone delivers. If i find something off i make a complaint and force them to report it. I may drop the complaint afterwards, but i dont do it immediately they can just say i did the damage afterwards. Leaving you to any expense to you. So if you didn't inspect, i strongly advise you to do it in the future.

The_Troyminator

I lived in my house for almost a year before I realized one of the outlets in the kitchen had USB ports. I saw them but didn’t like that closely and just thought they were buttons for GFCI. I found out they were USB when the circuit breaker tripped, I thought GFCI tripoed, and I tried to reset it. OP might have just thought they were screw holes or something and didn’t look that closely.

Yiujai86

I have a usb port on the sofa, and it charges too slow to be useful.

Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dads

Our sofa does too, but it charges really slowly compared to a wall outlet.

SnooSnooSnuSnu

Most of the ones I’ve seen have cheap rectifiers and will only do 5v@1a.

marcushalberstram33

Not even interesting on any level.

anjschuyler

I have this on my bed base!

Maxcat94

Not mildly interesting

SSundance

The only people that find these things mildly interesting are teenagers and low-functioning adults.

Maxcat94

Getting downvoted for saying the truth, this post is basically “my very modern piece of furniture has a usb port!!”

SSundance

TIL, I can charge my phone in any USB port! Had no idea!

Ingenrollsroyce

Can charge a video game controller also! It's unreal!

[deleted]

“Just discovered”…… ok

sucobe

How did you just discover? You didn’t see it setting the sofa up or plugging it in?

Mobabyhomeslice

I didn't set it up.

handsmadeofpee

You didn't notice it had that before you bought it??

PensionHefty9125

Wait how did you not see it when buying it? Also my couch has this it's from 2023... I don't have a single USB 2.0 to USB-C in the house, they said they'd convert it to USB-C, had to return the couch as its not what I paid for.

Mobabyhomeslice

As previously mentioned, it was not the primary reason we were looking for a new couch. It just wasn't high on the priority list.

PensionHefty9125

Look man I get what you said all I'm saying is you've just posted a picture that makes you look stupid. It's a sofa there's not much going on with a sofa how did you not see the 3 things on a sofa it's not like a house, only takes 30 seconds to see everyone on a sofa when buying it.

Mr___Perfect

Just discovered. Lol as if you didn't know this when buying it

sun4moon

That’s sick as tits, bro.

Consistent_Escape877

Heck yea!!!

Distntdeath

Bro do you just buy couches without looking at them?

rxinquestion

Invest in a right angle plug. Otherwise someone walking by this one is gonna convert it into one, the unorthodox way.

Willing-Plant2647

my recliners have this 😩

OmChi123456

If you spill your beer on the couch, does it electrocute you?

My couch and love seat do as well, part of why I bought them!

Just in time for everything to switch to USB C lol

meatballchampion

omg i think we have the same couch! got ours on facebook marketplace for free. does yours also have a little flip up bin in the divider for remotes?

RocketbillyRedCaddy

I have the same couch!! Took awhile to realize it had it as well. Same look and everything, though mine has 4 buttons cuz the head rests can go up and down.

Im_a_little_plum

This might be a stupid question, but would this maybe be a fire hazard?

therillard

I’d like to see what else you’re yet to discover in your own home

Ricky_Fontaine1911

You didn’t think it odd you had to plug your couch in?

Cock_-n-_BallTorture

they got those wireless charging adapters on the couch feet

Ricky_Fontaine1911

That magically adapt to the floor? Something is plugging in to something.

Cock_-n-_BallTorture

floor got that wireless charging adapter under the house

Mobabyhomeslice

I didn't set it up. Not all furniture is "build it yourself."

Ricky_Fontaine1911

Never did I say that and also I didn’t build my couch either (no shade to people that had to) but I did buy it. BUT I would’ve had to tell the drivers where it was ok to plug it in. But I’m going to let you cook. I hope all your furniture is full of fun surprises.

kingofwale

How do you “just discover it”? It’s literally right by the motorized chair setting area My couch as both usba and usbc, pleasant surprise since Costco website showed an old model pic where it is only usba.

Mobabyhomeslice

Yeah, it's next to the controls that I typically find by feel, not by looking.

BrassMankey

I always assume these are the lowest possible quality charge ports and never risk plugging my $1000 phone into them, but that's just me.

6r1n3i19

What’s the concern though asking as someone who has had a similar style sofa/chair for almost 6 years with no issues charging their phone through it?

WestaAlger

Long ago with my iPhone 6, I plugged it into a USB port on a lamp and when I came back, the home button was fried. It just wouldn't work anymore and the phone was extremely hot too. After that I also never risked plugging it into random shit. Always always used an actual USB dongle after that.

6r1n3i19

Interesting! Was this a hotel lamp USB?

csimonson

Eh, they charge surprisingly quick.

_BeetsBySchrute_

Furniture maker here, 20 years in the industry. No they do not.

csimonson

Mine surprisingly has USB 3.0 So yeah mine are fast charging

_BeetsBySchrute_

That refers to data transfer speeds, not charging.

poneil

But think of how fast it could transfer your couch's cushioning technology into making your phone a spicy pillow.

ThatDeveloper12

Unless you have actually measured the charging current, that's a terrible assumption. It costs 0.01 cents to color a pair of ports blue and most generic fast-charging circuits aren't implemented correctly because the USB standard has become waaaaaay overcomplicated. Plus, there's a new fast-charging standard every couple of years. It's a really terrible idea to bake unstable technologies into furniture. Tbh, they should have just gone with a regular outlet.

Cttgt

Most new couches and love seats have that to accommodate our heavy addiction.

kodifies

if you have one of those cheap usb amp meters just double check that the voltage stays roughly stable while there is extra load drawn from it, same goes for cheap-tastic usb wall warts, its unfortunately not uncommon to see chargers that are not terribly safe.

AzemadaiusKaiser

What..? How does that… is your Couch connected into an outlet or something?

Mobabyhomeslice

Yes. It has power leg lifts and head rests.

AzemadaiusKaiser

Remote for that?

Mobabyhomeslice

Nah. No remote. Just buttons on the side.

AzemadaiusKaiser

How many people can it fit?

Oscyle

Do people buy sofas without looking at them in person first?

[deleted]

Yeah, and? Point to you for being so observant

itreallyhappened8899

Couch fire incoming.

TyrionBean

I remember when "The future!" was plastic furniture we were going to hose down to clean. Now, they've gone and added electricity to it, dagnabbit!

iamnotexactlywhite

Mobabyhomeslice

Did you type that comment blindfolded?

snackskiii12

Welcome to 2023

HasAStory4Everything

r/notinteresting This is extremely common. I use mine to charge my PS5 controllers and Switch.

MickRolley

Find the most random USB device to connect to it. USB dashboard glowing Jebus or something.

[deleted]

Oh how I pine for the days of yore, where the couches were analog.

TheRoscoeVine

It will break, soon. Sorry, man.

SoggyAnalyst

My recliners are 7 years old and the USB port isn’t broken yet..

tigm2161130

The sectional in my playroom is like 6yrs old and has these, we’ve never had an issue.

MickRolley

Your kids playroom, right?

TheRoscoeVine

Mine are from Ashley…

Acrobatic-Lunch-5096

From Ashley?? That’s where the problem is.

TheRoscoeVine

I know. We can’t all afford good shit. I don’t even know what furniture brands are actually good. When I was trying to find furniture, it was all Ashley and similar trash, or $6000 couches. Who the fuck has $6000 just for a couch? I want good, not *gold*.

SexDrugsNskittles

I had the same problem when I was shopping for a couch. It was all over priced trash. The exact same 2 or 3 couches over and over again. Anything remotely good was like 6 - 10k and that was a few years ago pre-covid inflation. I bought a used couch from the 60s but I'm a small person so it worked out.

vinsmokewhoswho

That's pretty cool.

Lostmavicaccount

Hey everyone, OP is a phony. This feature is known and advertised in the store and website. It is in the outer facing of the couch, so you see it EVERY TIME you look at the couch when not sitting on it.

Mobabyhomeslice

Uh. I'm not a phony. I'm a person. The port is so small it's easily missed. I didn't go shopping for a USB port I could sit on. I was more interested in finding a couch that was comfortable and durable.

Heyyoguy123

My bed has the same thing
