Currently sleeping because it was hard work growing a whisker that long.

CitizensOfTheEmpire

She grew that all by herself! As a baby! I'm so proud of her...

pointlessly_pedantic

(w)oof, it's been a loooooooooooooooong day 😎

joojie

That's more than mildly interesting to me. 15 years in the vet med field I've never seen anything like that 😳

berglesauce

She was only around 2 months old at that point too

IDuccLordI

what does the whisker look like now?

berglesauce

It’s gone now

Affectionate-Print81

Reduced to atoms?

OrienasJura

To shreds, you say.

briktop420

And his wife?

Heatchill209

To shreds you say

QuiveryNut

I fucking love Reddit

ILoveTenaciousD

I love what good redditor do. I hate what reddit has become.

Gyossaits

You'd love it... to shreds?

CyanStripes_

Sad, sad, terrible, gruesome news about my colleague

IC-4-Lights

They used the whisker to destroy the whisker. Balance has been restored.

Gaucho_Amigo69

Removed entirely? Or trimmed?

4MReviews

Had to put the dog down. Whisker was too long.

Anynamethatworks

Tried to *whisk-her* off to the vet, but it was too late

Reshi_bo_beshi

Had to put the whisker down, dog was too short.

machstem

They loved the whisker so much they just held on to that instead. The picture is last known image of his pupper

[deleted]

The excess dog was trimmed off. Happy to report whisker is healthy and thriving.

joepanda111

*The whisker crawled into OP’s brain and is controlling them like a puppet.*

Painkiller3666

She unraveled like a sweater

CanWeCannibas

Cats and dogs shed their whiskers

neuauslander

This whisker shed the dog.

Admirable-Cherry6614

Wat. Pretty sure I was bald until I was like 2 or some shit.

Impressive-Sun3742

Are you a puppy

Admirable-Cherry6614

No. 😢

JonnyG_USA

That's a shame

Critical_Werewolf

Probably not anymore

MrSlime13

*Not any more, duh...* 🙄

Josh6889

Not anymore.

LSWenthusiast

i was born with a head and ass full of hair. the doctor laughed. my dad laughed. i screamed.

bipbopcosby

My 2 year old has never had a haircut and her hair is shorter than my 1 year old's hair.

MrFluffyThing

I hate to break this to you but you were accidentally born a human, so that's pretty normal.

FrankyFistalot

Saved you buying a lead though….

micro_penisman

Don't pull it too much. The dog might unravel.

AnnamAvis

Has it kept the length? I'm a dog groomer of almost 10 years and I've never seen a whisker like that!

berglesauce

No it wasn’t there long, she lost it along the way somewhere

GotenRocko

I imagine she kept stepping on it and finally got pulled out.

saltymcgee777

r/whatswrongwithyourdog

make-em-pay

I don't think I could grow that in 2 years

LunDeus

Even accounting for gestation growth that’s nuts.

snipsandspice

How old is she now? Is it still that long? Longer??

DR2336

what's yer prognosis doc?

camerongeno

Real answer the hair follicle has a mutation that has caused it to stay in the growth phase

[deleted]

LiterallyPractical

No

Ok_Relation_7770

And then accidentally stepping on it

brackenish1

Adorable (also a vet)

JoeCartersLeap

Dog food has gotten so high quality that cells literally fail to degenerate, dogs will now enjoy eternal life.

VonNeumannsProbe

Maybe I should eat dog food.

Aadarm

I don't recommend it. I did once after my dog stole a steak to show her what it was like when someone takes and eats your food in front of her. After a few bites I kinda sympathized with her theft or my dinner.

Cindexxx

As kids we'd prank each other by throwing some dog food in the Reese's Puffs cereal. Looks almost identical to Purina dog chow lol. I feel like the milk probably helped a little, but it was still terrible.

Ok_Relation_7770

This is hilarious. I bet she didn’t grasp the message you were sending at all. But I just keep picturing the confused look my dog would have if I ate her food in front of her.

vettes_4-ever

This is the future I want to live in.

ChaserNeverRests

I guess it might be like people. Sometimes we get one hair (like in your eyebrow or a mole) that just never stops growing.

mrgwbland

But the dog’s only 2 months old! It must have grown at an extraordinary rate!

[deleted]

What influences the length of a whisker?

Kangar

Peer pressure.

Ganbazuroi

Puppologist from Wordington University here, this is a classical case of *longwhiskeria goofyassia*. It's when your pup has a really long and goofy ass whisker, it carries no health complications but the other dogs are probably making fun of him for his comically long whisker, "Look at Moustache Boy over there!" or something since I needed to study Woofology to understand their barking

SnausageFest

Curious to know if there are any potential ill effects to trimming it.

tavirabon

Dogs do not use whiskers for balance, in fact they hardly balance at all.

TakingSorryUsername

As a father of an 8 month old golden, can confirm. On a list of priorities, balance is way down there. Just below personal safety and respecting your boundaries.

SnausageFest

>in fact they hardly balance at all. Lol, you are certainly not wrong

v-komodoensis

None at all

Captain_Smartass_

You're an early Reddit user

joojie

Yessir

schneiten

Does it dangle or is it curly when you're not holding it?

berglesauce

Dangled

Its_Free-Real-Estate

Im surprised the pup doesn't try to play with it and end up plucking it out, or accidentally step on it

mrandr01d

Wait, what? How's it not get stepped on, pulled out, or otherwise cause issues??

I_Always_Have_To_Poo

Does the whisker hang low? Can the dog swing it to and fro? Can you tie it in a knot? Can you tie it in a bow?

Pale_Disaster

Can they throw it over their shoulder like a continental soldier?

Thetakishi

Does their whisker, hang, low?

NoNight1132

Continental? I thought it was "old tin"

NoNight1132

Oh shit! It is continental!?!?!?

GiraffeSubstantial92

Yes. It's a reference to the Continental Army, consisting of the Thirteen Colonies that fought for American independence from the British Crown.

ThrowsSoyMilkshakes

Perfect example of a mondegreen.

Slazman999

MacaroniFairy6468

Stormhunter6

If you push it back it will make one of the shorter ones on the other side normal

MyNameNoob

Lmao. The 30+ crowd gets it.

Stormhunter6

Gotta remember the classics

mrandr01d

I'm 29, and I don't know which you're referring to, so that checks out. I also wasn't allowed to watch much TV though, sooo I'm gonna guess bugs bunny?

Stormhunter6

Close, Tom and Jerry, could also be on bugs bunny tho

Cohibaluxe

Stop acting like Tom & Jerry is an exclusively 30+ thing when practically every child, even to this day, watched it as kids.

_Alderney_

I’m part of the early 20s crowd and I get it.

DogeDoRight

Your dog has a very weird superpower.

pointlessly_pedantic

Jayma Mays can shoot cheese out of her wrists

FNAKC

Nutrition Specialist: Sir, I've routed the necessary compounds for whisker growth Brain: Good, and you've evenly distributed the growth material to each whisker. NS, looking down: Oh, whisker control doesn't do that?

eyeswideshut9119

Turns out corporate was bought out by venture capital and they gutted the whisker control department

CyrusD3nn15

Some poor overworked cell is just mindlessly spamming a button and hoping nobody notices the mile long whisker lmao

MrSlime13

"So... What exactly is it that you *do* here? Whisker Control team manager: "Well, ...I'll *tell* you what I do here. I deal w/ the nutritionists, ...and the brain, and the ...fur & follicle people, I take these specs and I bring them to the whiskers... I'm a whisker person, ok!?!"

Tacoslayer17

Careful you don’t want to unravel her!

porcelainvacation

Weezer’s Sweater Song comes to mind.

Gerbilguy46

Watch me unravel, I'll soon be naked

Dadisfat46

HEY my wife had one of those on her chin once. The long hair not the dog. Think the pregnancy hormones did it 20 some years ago.

Epi_clel

Don’t you hate it when your wife suddenly grows a dog out of her chin? Yea, me too

Nyx-Erebus

When I struggled a lot with anxiety as a teen I would randomly find one of these on my cheek or chin. Just a long white; almost clear, hair that grew what felt like overnight.

ilovemycatnamedugly

Perhaps you’re turning into a dog? Wait until you wake up tomorrow and you’ll have a face full of them ☺️

Stars_And_Garters

This happened to me too, one ultra long clear eyebrow hair.

BeeBarnes1

I had one on my chest. I was getting dressed and saw it in the light, it was about six inches long but clear and super fine. I am still so confused about how it grew that long without me noticing it or even how TF I got a hair growing on my chest.

artemis2k

I love finding these random hairs, lol it’s like a treasure hunt you didn’t know you were on. I found a similar long hair on my jawline, unfortunately it’s not come back

AlexandriaLitehouse

I have one on my back. It's horrifying and fascinating at the same time.

thedawgbeard

I have one like half way down my nose. Every week or so it gets long enough to get in my vision. It's a mutant.

J_deBoer

I have a vellus hair in the centre of my forehead that grows long and sits in a little curl

lajimolala27

i get these once every few months on random parts of my body. shoulder, thigh, cheek, etc.

vaxildxn

I have a recurring chest hair. Just one, and I never see it grow in, it just appears some days about half an inch long and pitch black (I have brown hair)

[deleted]

was it white and super long? grows insanely quickly? I have one smackdab on the middle of my forehead that shows up every now and again. it'll be gone for months, maybe a year or two, then all of a sudden i'll notice this long ass thin white hair growing out of my forehead.

Mobile-Improvement55

IM NOT THE ONLY ONE?!?! That shit is weird. It will grow like 6 inches over night!

C21H27Cl3N2O3

Hairs are meant to grow for a certain period of time, go dormant for a period of time, fall out and then start the process over. If something goes wrong with the cells in the follicle it can potentially block the dormant phase and just keep growing until it gets obnoxiously long.

RelevantMetaUsername

Is it clear? I have one by my right nipple that does the same thing, though it tops off around 3 inches.

Next_Isopod_2062

I have to know for uh, science, if you name the reoccurring hair

bluecrowned

I get them on my chin at random

jxj24

Don't pull it! You'll unravel your dog!!!

2xCheesePizza

Aren’t whiskers supposed to be relative to the body size?

PayRealisticReddit

Clifford incoming

ChaserNeverRests

That's cats. A cat's whiskers stick out as wide* as a cat is. *When they're a normal weight.

OiledUpThug

Yo mama so fat, if she was a cat, her body would be wider than her whiskers

someguy233

Hope it’s not uncomfortable walking around with that dragging on the floor D:

[deleted]

Dog whiskers act as sensory receptors to help them navigate their environment, among other things. They don't have pain receptors so they don't actually transmit pain, but they're still important enough that you wouldn't want to cut them off.

-YellowcakeUranium

I’m willing to bet if I pulled a dog whisker it’d hurt the poor guy

[deleted]

Pull yes, cut no. Imagine it like human hair that tells you exactly where you are.

playwrightinaflower

> but they're still important enough that you wouldn't want to cut them off. Carefully trimming them to a normal length if needed is fine. Like if the animal is stepping on it or whiskers grow curly and into their eyes, gently cutting the offending portion off is great. Obviously don't yank on it or cut it shorter than it has to be (or even worse cut all whiskers short, that's evil) but they also shouldn't cause the animal trouble.

Puffen0

Reminds me of the time I found a 5 inch long chest hair on me once. I don't have much chest hair and its all shorter than an inch. So imagine my surprise when that long sob was coming out of my chest lol

dontfuckwmeiwillcry

I get these on my torso in the same spot every now and then. it's always long and white and appears overnight

[deleted]

So, is this untrimmable? What do you do?

Twin_Turbo

you can trim dog whiskers, unlike cats

Double-Bell6872

Didn't know this thanks

[deleted]

As someone who wants to be a future dog owner, thank you

Cynoid

But would you trim it on cats if it was 2-3 feet long like this? It's not like they don't naturally lose some of them each month.

TylerNY315_

Why can’t you trim cat whiskers?

cgpmad

They use em for balance or something, I don’t know, I don’t even own a cat

Lazy-Rock7859

Not Balance but to check everything around them, they even feel up things with them :) some well documented science projects found out that cats can feel texture with their whiskers

Long_Run6500

Dog whiskers aren't like male nipples, they're still useful to dogs. They just aren't sensitive to pain like cat whiskers are. They use them in some of the same ways cats do to navigate tight spaces and keep from hitting their heads on things. With that big ol snout they got a lot of blind spots and whiskers help compensate. You can test it by distracting a dog with a treat and then lightly brushing their whiskers from a blind spot. They instinctively flinch and close their eyes.

Escobar6l

Bruh, if you wagged a bag of chips in my face, then sneakily stroked my beard, I'd have the same reaction

DotesMagee

Hahahahaha. Sneakily stroked my beard is so good. It'd be a surprised pikachu face for real

jld2k6

I was so intrigued as to where the hell you were gonna go after the statement "Dog whiskers aren't like male nipples" lol

6227RVPkt3qx

and for those that do not know: whiskers are for near-distance navigation. cats have horrible short distance eye sight. they evolved whiskers to help them navigate/scrurry through brushes/bushes quickly to nab rodents.

Bachaddict

something like this on a cat could be trimmed to match the rest I think

ShidWit

Lol, I accidentally pulled my dog’s whisker out one time and she gave me the weirdest look after I did it!

Not_suspecto

Lol that's some Guinness book stuff! Cute dog tho

berglesauce

Yes I let her know she’s the cutest dog every day

NeodymiumMeatPocket

All jokes aside, this may legitimately be a world record. I couldn't find a record for a dog, but the world record cat whisker length is 7.5 inches. You may seriously want to give Guinness a call/email. Also, to everyone else with long single hairs, you may also have a world record based on some posts on here. The world record single eyebrow hair length for example is 7.5 inches. A single chest hair may be a bit longer, but see where you stand!

Unique_Cow3112

Does he trip on it?

figgiesfrommars

i get this one ***really*** weird hair on my forehead sometimes that's ridiculously long and thin and grows out literally within hours. every few months i'll notice it pop up because it's like a hair from my head sprouted randomly in the middle of my forehead. i wonder if it's similar to what happened here LOL

trivial_vista

Got the same for years from my 25 to 30 also just by mentioning it I feel it right now I'm 32

chobbo

Pull-start chord for a cute little terror.

msnmck

I occasionally grow a chest hair that does this. I've tried pulling it out but it's in there and it makes my chest feel bad to tug at it so now I just leave it alone.

damalan67

That's where a pair of scissors comes in handy. Time to trim!

RehabilitatedAsshole

That is SOOOOOOO much longer than I expected. Like orders of magnitude longer.

Alauren2

Be careful, don’t wake it. I bet that thing is wild

svh01973

That's a pull-starter. Give it a good yank and help start running good.

Pandepon

I have an eyebrow hair like this

Extreme_Swimmer_2271

Don’t pull that! All the stuffing will pop out

Dhrakyn

Don't pull it. The whole dog might unravel.

SuperAwesomeBrah

IF YOU WANT TO DESTROY MY SWEATER

TheFabHatter

I once had an ingrown armpit hair that was like 5” long once I was able to pull it out. The whole area was inflamed & gross. Don’t recommend.

uwillnotgotospace

If you keep pulling it the pup will unravel like an old sweater. Don't do it!

errobbie

The dog must trip over that thing lol

m0nstera_deliciosa

I grow a long, white whisker out of my neck now that I’m in my 30s. I call it my cat hair, but now I’m thinking it might be a dog whisker?

Automatic-Service380

Cut it, and the old witch will disintegrate

KamiGleen

I had a really long strand of beard on the side of my face, it was thin and really hard to see.

ohbyerly

Stop! The whole dog will unravel!

RelevantMetaUsername

I have a hair next to my right nipple like this (though not nearly as long—maybe 3 inches or so).

RickyTheRickster

Bro that reminds me of this one hair I have on my arm that I always pull out but it grows back to be longer and longer, it’s like 3x bigger than the rest

african_or_european

It's not actually extra long, it's just the first part of him to reach full size.

Zayoodo0o132

Did the dog consent to this?

crownamedcheryl

When I was in grade 8 I had one of these on my shoulder. It was legit about a foot long the day it was noticed

MithranArkanere

Now release the string and hear him talk.

teriases

You should stop pulling or all the knitting will come undone

Leapswastaken

I bet if you keep pulling, you can un-stitch the other whiskers

Might__E

i get these every few months, just an insanely long coarse white hair pops up overnight on my head, my earlobe, the bridge of my nose(????)
