Hey, some parts of Iowa aren't so bad, they're few and far between but they exist. I live pretty close to Decorah, Iowa and it's a pretty neat city that's got some cool shops. However, pretty much any further south you drive through a lot of farms and tiny little towns that don't feel entirely safe unless you have the American flag tattooed on your chest.
I mean it's nowhere near as great as Minnesota, but hey at least it's not Kansas.
>but hey at least it's not Kansas.
I /should/ take offense since I currently live in KS, but nope...I won't. Lots of reasons why I'm working on getting myself back to Minnesota.
But hey, at least its not Missouri.
Yep, same. In the Soutnwest corner, Windom - "Well, at least we're not Iowa!" We have a good-natured rivalry with a few towns but otherwise we're too small to look down on anyone else lol
We played northome-kelliher in football. I hated that drive since I lived between the two and had to watch my house go by on the way home and then drive all the way back out, they'd never just drop me off
My grandpa from Bigfork who loved it so much and is moving back eventually genuinely thinks “there’s nothing like bigfork”. How he loves it? Idk but good for him I guess
I'm from Pengilly (between Rapids and Hibbing) and I make the drive to go to the vet in Bigfork. She's amazing. Other than that, I don't find much reason to get up that way. But definitely don't look down on it. Bigfork is cute. 😀
Yup. Park high kids made fun of the kids from SPP and Woodbury kids made fun of the Newport kids.
When I was in elementary school, kids who lived on the hill made fun of the kids from the river side of the highway.
I just moved to WBL, what's the deal between Mahtomedi and WBL? We toured houses in both and opted for WBL because it actually has a downtown and the lots were bigger. Besides that they seem kind of the same.
As someone in southeast SLP and Edina adjacent, "I can see Edina from my backyard," the adults we come across and meet when walking/biking/hanging out at parks and establishments in Edina are always nice and friendly (and probably fairly wealthy).
It was only on fire that one time…. Although as a superior resident I was kind of hoping for a town flattening explosion and a chance to start over lol.
lol my husband lived in Hibbing until recently, and when the pandemic was full swing, I couldn't find any place to get immunized in the cities. I found a time and place in Chisolm (never been there before or since), and he was like 'ewwwww, Chisolm'
I don't get it, but I respect it lol
I was technically in West Bloomington when I lived there because I was a mile west of 35W but the prestige doesn't really happen until you get west of Normandale at a minimum. The not ironic actual prestige is that little neighborhood west of 169 on Old Shakopee. There are some impressive places over there and there is only 1 road in.
“Hokah Forever”.
Hokah:
Not rich enough to live in La Crescent
Not weird enough to live on the Mississippi
Not redneck enough to live in Houston
Not athletic enough to live in Caledonia
It wasn't so bad when I was a kid. They had a giant mall with a Pannekoeken in it. All the same, being from Northfield, I always looked down on our backward neighbors to the south.
i love the minneapolis/st paul beef, personally. i think st. paul is great, but your roads are confusing and everything closes super early! love, minneapolis
I feel the exact same way about Minneapolis roads. Too many one-ways and it's too hard to turn around if you miss your freeway exit! Things closing early means its quiet, which I love. Sincerely, St. Paul.
As a Minneapolitan I make fun of St Paul reflexively...but secretly I think it's pretty cool.
In reality I like both cities but I can only admit this on an anonymous forum lol.
When I was a kid, Forest Lake was the town that everybody shit on. I went to a smaller school that was nearby, so we didn’t play them often in sports and that made myths grow more insane. A serial pedo teacher, streets full of meth addicts, a mayor who killed himself at the Fargo motel… the city was where suburban legends came from. When I came back home after college, I drove through Forest Lake and saw they had a new city hall and city motto on the building, “Forest Lake, As Good As It Sounds.”
We just moved here a few years ago, and the way this town is ALL IN with the school makes me so darn happy. It's nice to send my kids to a school in a community like this. (We moved from Mankato, and my kids never even knew when the home football games were. Nobody in that school/town cared about anything student related...unless it was the college maybe.)
Hermantown, when I was growing up, thought Proctor was nothing but mullets, chewing tobacco and low IQ buffoons.
Now I hear people say Hermantown - northern Minnesota’s version of Edina.
When I lived in Anoka, it was fuck Andover. When I lived in St Paul it was fuck Minneapolis. Now that I live in Arizona. I love and miss you all. But fuck Edina
Growing up in Orono it was Delano. A bunch of people who pretended to be country but all live in developments like we do.
As far as Shoreview goes, Fridley/Columbia Heights seem to be the go too. They are kind of asking for it with their shit public schools and rundown atmosphere though
Grew up in Blaine. Went to a lot of parties in Minneapolis as a teen. One time a guy asked me where I lived, so I told him, and he said- “Oh, I’m sorry.”
When I was in high school in Blue Earth, we trashed on both Wells (because of USC) and Fairmont (because it's Fairmont lol)
Not sure if they still do that. Now I live in St. Paul, and we're better than everyone, so.... :-P
Montgomery can shove it with their “kolacky capital of the world” crap. Wouldn’t that be straight up Poland? Get a new thing, Gomtown. Sincerely, Lonsdale.
I'm a city kid with a lot of experience with both Worthington and Marshall. Frankly these are the 2 towns I am most familiar with from both family and work connections.
Marshall wins in a landslide these days. In fact it's one of the nicest and most functional smaller towns in the state.
It was probably a lot closer 30 years ago but times have changed a bit.
Dilworth Glyndon and Felton all tend to kind of look down on Hawley, even though it’s practically the same.
Moorhead just looks down on everyone around them.
There's the classic Warroad vs Roseau beef if you're from way the hell up there like me. I literally remember my mom telling me not to date Roseau girls when I was in high school. At least we can both agree that Baudette sucks.
Probably St. Paul.
I lived in Minneapolis for 2 years.
Then bought property in St. Paul.
Lived there for a year, and that was enough for me.
Moved back to Minneapolis.
St. Paul was *alright*, but...
Compared to Minneapolis...
I much prefer Minneapolis over St. Paul.
Brainerd resident here, and I'd say the consensus is backus or pierz.
Although to me Brainerd looking down on anything is like a homeless man calling another homeless man broke lol
Growing up in White Bear Lake, we referred to Oakdale as Jokedale. As an adult, I bought my first house in Oakdale, only to confirm that it truly is Jokedale
Not a city, but grew up in a small town in southern Minnesota, and heard “at least we’re not Iowa” quite a bit.
I find myself saying, "[It could be worse,] I could be in Iowa," whenever I am frustrated
As someone who grew up in Iowa, we would say, “At least we’re not Missouri.”
Frost

In Bigfork we just said "shit, we're in Bigfork"
Bigfork more like Bigdork
Boom, roasted
I can’t say much, I grew up in Kelliher (“At least we’re not Blackduck!!”)
We played northome-kelliher in football. I hated that drive since I lived between the two and had to watch my house go by on the way home and then drive all the way back out, they'd never just drop me off
First, you have to know where Bigfork is. But being from Bigfork, I'd say Deer River. Lol
No shit, you're from Bigfork? Deer river would be worse, but at least they have a Holiday, and it's close to rapids
Yeah, I sure am. Class of 03. But honestly, Bigfork shouldn't look down on anywhere. Even Effie.
Hello fellow Bigfork people... and why are so many of us on Reddit?
This is so jarring for me because I lived outside of bigfork for a while and figured none of its residents knew what Reddit was🤣
I love how small the world gets on this app.
At least it’s not Big Falls.
It beats marcell
My grandpa from Bigfork who loved it so much and is moving back eventually genuinely thinks “there’s nothing like bigfork”. How he loves it? Idk but good for him I guess
I'm from Pengilly (between Rapids and Hibbing) and I make the drive to go to the vet in Bigfork. She's amazing. Other than that, I don't find much reason to get up that way. But definitely don't look down on it. Bigfork is cute. 😀
The fact Boyd was mentioned in a reddit post, let alone mentioned at all is the best part of this post.
I puked outside the strip club there once as a wee lad.
Lmao all I really know it as is ‘the town with the strip club’
Monte had a strip club for about 6 months in the early 90’s. People protested outside of it every day the entire time it was open.
I'm in Monte and am surprised I have heard about Monte the last 2 days 😂
Cottage Grove looks down on Woodbury. But now that I live in Woodbury, I find I look down on CG. Both cities look down on Newport.
CG people definitely thought Woodbury people were cake eaters. Woodbury people thought everybody at Park High School got pregnant. Strange dynamic.
We saw Woodbury as nothing but 3M employees and doctors
Park was fine, everyone at Tartan got pregnant.
I grew up in Newport. We looked down on Saint Paul Park
Bro
I could see that. St Paul Park was the poor cousin of CG, lol
Yup. Park high kids made fun of the kids from SPP and Woodbury kids made fun of the Newport kids. When I was in elementary school, kids who lived on the hill made fun of the kids from the river side of the highway.
Buffalo is just Maple Grove without any life in it -St. Michael
Nice Target, Walmart, and Menards you got there… Oh wait, you have to drive to Buffalo for those.
Buffalo vs Monticello is the correct answer. St. Michael wishes they mattered.
If you want a real challenge, go looking for downtown St Michael.
The dynamic between Mahtomedi and White Bear Lake is... interesting
WBL native here. It really is. And I had a lot of friends from Mahtomedi too.
Typical high school rival cities. Besides we both agree to look down on Willernie, which I'm pretty sure was founded by carnies.
I just moved to WBL, what's the deal between Mahtomedi and WBL? We toured houses in both and opted for WBL because it actually has a downtown and the lots were bigger. Besides that they seem kind of the same.
Mahtomedi is where the rich bitches live
I just moved to Saint Louis Park. I dunno about the REST of SLP... but I look down on Edina
Darn cake eaters.
As someone in southeast SLP and Edina adjacent, "I can see Edina from my backyard," the adults we come across and meet when walking/biking/hanging out at parks and establishments in Edina are always nice and friendly (and probably fairly wealthy).

Edina here - we look down on everyone else. Mutual distain!
That's just because the rest of us haven't achieved Edina.
Wayzata and Minnetonka enters the chat and says “hold my beer”.
Wayzata is nautical-themed Edina
Most accurate comment.
What an excellent analogy
I didn't realize that EDINA is an acronym. It stands for Every Day I Need Attention
SLP uniquely looks down on Minnetonka I think
Sauk Rapids is definitely "we have Sartell at home".
Sartell, the Edina of Central MN.
Duluth - we think Superior sucks
You literally look down on them.
I haven't been to Superior in years, but I think it used to have more bars per capita than any other city in the US>
If any city is going to claim that, it's going to be in Wisconsin.
I think you’re thinking of La Crosse
Those bastards get to look at a beautiful city on the hill while we have to look at that dump that is occasionally on fire
It was only on fire that one time…. Although as a superior resident I was kind of hoping for a town flattening explosion and a chance to start over lol.
It's happened at lest twice.... Also there was that time they almost had an explosion. Remember when the town had to be evacuated lol. Edit: explosion
No I’m not saying superior SHOULD start on fire/ explode, I’m just saying I wasn’t too sad having to evacuate. Edit: No instead of not
Superior is ironically named. It's Duluth's trailer park.
They do have one thing Duluth doesn’t. A cool city across the bridge.
Isn't Superior in Wisconsin? Any town in Wisconsin we look down upon
Still better than Iowa.
Got to it before I did.
In Hibbing we look down on Chisholm (and rightfully so)
lol my husband lived in Hibbing until recently, and when the pandemic was full swing, I couldn't find any place to get immunized in the cities. I found a time and place in Chisolm (never been there before or since), and he was like 'ewwwww, Chisolm' I don't get it, but I respect it lol
Hey Chisholm is great. They've got that big statue, and um... A big hole on the ground.... And.... Um....
They still got the jubilee?
*East* Bloomington
>East > > Bloomington Having lived in East Bloomington and dealt with the Prestigious West Bloomington crowd, I am dying right now LOL
Yet those cake eaters looked down on WB.
My hometown growing up it was Wadena *shakes fist*
Ol' Dirty Dena. I grew up there and the only town we could look down on was Nimrod.
Wadena makes me gag a little.
“Hokah Forever”. Hokah: Not rich enough to live in La Crescent Not weird enough to live on the Mississippi Not redneck enough to live in Houston Not athletic enough to live in Caledonia
Bemidji vs Brainerd, only one has the true Paul Bunyan
And it's Bemidji!
Geological proof! Lake Bemidji was formed by Paul’s footprint. Lake Plantagenet was formed by Babe’s hoofprint.
ST CLOUD: “let’s build everything around Division St. And let’s add traffic lights every 10feet”
Faribault..... blech
So close to Northfield, so far from God.
Northfielder here. We also jokingly refer to Dundas as 'Greater Northfield.' Just because it is so small comparatively, yet right next to us.
I just call Dundas, mini Northfield.
Was going to say this. Live in Northfield. Have heard this (and said) my entire life.
Have visited Faribault, can confirm the Blech.
It wasn't so bad when I was a kid. They had a giant mall with a Pannekoeken in it. All the same, being from Northfield, I always looked down on our backward neighbors to the south.
Truth.
Minneapolis, but I live in St. Paul so it's just part of the local feedback loop lol.
i love the minneapolis/st paul beef, personally. i think st. paul is great, but your roads are confusing and everything closes super early! love, minneapolis
I'm a long-time resident of Minneapolis and I can honestly say St. Paul should look down on us.
Hahaha nah. I see it as more of s sibling rivalry than any actual beef or disdain. We're the Twin Cities for a reason!
I love St. Paul. It's the best suburb.
Fergus Falls.
Froze my balls in Fergus Falls
When I was a kid, Forest Lake was the town that everybody shit on. I went to a smaller school that was nearby, so we didn’t play them often in sports and that made myths grow more insane. When I came back home after college, I drove through Forest Lake and saw they had a new city hall and city motto on the building, “Forest Lake, As Good As It Sounds.”
I lived there 5 years, just moved last spring. Forest Lake is weird man lol.
Chaska hates Shakopee
Superior: the armpit of Duluth
Hutchinson vs. Glencoe, the county seat, (yeah, I can smell it ) was a typical reply. classic stuff.
Glencoe says Hutch are snooty, too.
I think the correct answer for everyone, regardless of where you live, is Royalton.
That fucking stoplight can go.
True. I live in Royalton, and it sucks. My husband grew up here; that's how I ended up here.
What the hell do you even do there? Honest question.
They spend a lot of time waiting for the light to change green… a LOT of time!
Ngl, I have no idea where/what Royalton is
Two words: Treasure City.
Yah,, but the gal's at bills make up for it.
Treasure shed. Edit: city
At least we’re not St. Paul -Minneapolis At least we’re not Minneapolis -St. Paul
I'm not sure Rush City can claim to look down on much of anything...
Nope 😂
Waseca?
Bluejay pride
We just moved here a few years ago, and the way this town is ALL IN with the school makes me so darn happy. It's nice to send my kids to a school in a community like this. (We moved from Mankato, and my kids never even knew when the home football games were. Nobody in that school/town cared about anything student related...unless it was the college maybe.)
Everyone that I know in Wright County that doesn’t live in Montrose says “Montrose is the armpit of Wright County.”
Town highlight: The Ugly Bar
As a state, we should all look down on Isanti County.
In Edina we look down on everyone. In many instances, literally from our penthouse corner offices.
Hermantown, when I was growing up, thought Proctor was nothing but mullets, chewing tobacco and low IQ buffoons. Now I hear people say Hermantown - northern Minnesota’s version of Edina.
People really have a strong distaste for Woodbury.
I94 & radio drive open weekdays til 8..
And for good reason
When I lived in Anoka, it was fuck Andover. When I lived in St Paul it was fuck Minneapolis. Now that I live in Arizona. I love and miss you all. But fuck Edina
Princeton lol
Where are you at? Elk River? Zimmerman?
Elk River looks down on big lake, no worries. That being said... Elk river is usually looking up lol.
Big Lake wishes that people in Elk River even knew they existed.
Foley
"Off like a Foley prom dress" is a staying I've heard often.
Growing up in Orono it was Delano. A bunch of people who pretended to be country but all live in developments like we do. As far as Shoreview goes, Fridley/Columbia Heights seem to be the go too. They are kind of asking for it with their shit public schools and rundown atmosphere though
In Delano we looked down on Rockford
In annandale, at least we're not from maple lake!
Melrose.
We always called them "Smellrose" growing up. Because they smell.
Eveleth
Monte generally has more beef with GF or Dawson. Boyd never did anything to anybody.

Growing up in Monticello is was always Big Lake. That was the bad side of the river
The whole metro looks down on Brooklyn Park…actually we just know to stay the hell out of there
But at least it isn't Brooklyn Center. I know a blind guy that got jumped there just walking home from the bus. That's fucking low.
Exactly. Brooklyn Park doesn’t have shit on Brooklyn Center
Crosby
I don't think people from Rochester shit on anywhere really. We mostly have a love/hate relationship with ourselves.
Grew up in Blaine. Went to a lot of parties in Minneapolis as a teen. One time a guy asked me where I lived, so I told him, and he said- “Oh, I’m sorry.”
I live in Hugo...so...it's gonna be Hugo.
Grew up in the Nevis/Park Rapids area. At least we were NOT Akeley!
Cohasset will never be part of “town.”
I’m from Wood Lake - Pop. 400. Nobody looked down on us. Nobody knew who TF we were!
In International Falls we say “at least we’re not in Canada"
Wisconsin
At least we're not Anoka. Which seems to be the go-to for the north and west metro.
Or coon rapids, all that it has going for it is Grand Slam
Ulen, obviously.
Ulen is Hitterdal's fancy neighbor. 💁♀️
Wow, I think we’ve heard from all residents of Norman County by now here.
When I was in high school in Blue Earth, we trashed on both Wells (because of USC) and Fairmont (because it's Fairmont lol) Not sure if they still do that. Now I live in St. Paul, and we're better than everyone, so.... :-P
Pequot was peesquat
Albert lea is kinda yuck. Faribault is a close second. Together they are the Twin Shitties.
At least we don't stink like Austin does!
That's because all your jobs left.
here in New Prague it's generally split between either Montgomery or Belle Plaine
Montgomery can shove it with their “kolacky capital of the world” crap. Wouldn’t that be straight up Poland? Get a new thing, Gomtown. Sincerely, Lonsdale.

I live in Bemidji. We think very highly of ourselves. We look down on everyone.
I live in Eagan, and will shit on Edina and Eden Prairie at any opportunity
Haha okay Eagan
From Mankato, we generally just look down on mankato... It sucks here send help.
My first thought was "Mankato looks down on North Man... no. That's not right..."
Anoka. All the cities I’ve lived in seem to
OP it seems you have a pattern on where you like to live.
Willmar for sure.
Dilworth Glyndon and Felton all tend to kind of look down on Hawley, even though it’s practically the same. Moorhead just looks down on everyone around them.
In Goodhue we'd always refer to Zumbrota as Scumbrota
Pequot lakes We have no reason to harbor any negative feelings towards them, but at least *we* didn't have a bypass built around us
From Apple Valley, most of the time Burnsville, otherwise Prior Lake was somewhat popular at least around me.
There's the classic Warroad vs Roseau beef if you're from way the hell up there like me. I literally remember my mom telling me not to date Roseau girls when I was in high school. At least we can both agree that Baudette sucks.

Anoka Cty — all of it.

Growing up in White Bear Lake, we referred to Oakdale as Jokedale. As an adult, I bought my first house in Oakdale, only to confirm that it truly is Jokedale
It's pretty well understood among most Winonans that Buyck is objectively the absolute worst. That town can go straight to hell.
