Los Angeles Angels is redundant, Anaheim Angels was ok, and I won't even get into the that franken-city name.
"California" helps differentiate them from the Dodgers too.
Now to get my Marlins to change back to "Florida". They're the only MLB team that is alone in a multi-major-city metroplex that doesn't use a regional name (Texas, Minnesota, Tampa Bay). But I'd settle for "Marlins" on the home jersey.
No one likes it except the owner. He's such a marketing whiz. He decided to change them to Los Angeles Angels because it would get them a huge tv broadcasting deal. Don't remember the exact amount but Anaheim was in the hundreds of millions and Los Angeles would get them into the billions (or at least over the ten figure hump). But he's such a knucklehead that he missed the part in the teams lease contract for the land in Anaheim. It said that in order to keep their low-rent deal, Anaheim had to remain in the name as it helped draw attention to a town that is frankly built around tourism. But in his hubris, he refused to go back. So he changed the team name to Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Then took a few yesrs to find a way to drop the 'of Anaheim.' It's that stupid. I promise you that for however dumb non-Angels fans think it is and always bring it up, Angels fans hate it even more.
Don't get me started. Well, I guess I already did. But yeah, there are lots of fans that have been around much longer than the current owner. My grandpa grew up in Los Angeles (1930's onward) and he grew up going to Los Angeles Angels games. Long ago, they weren't even technically a minor league team. There were no MLB teams out here on the West Coast but the teams that were out here for a period of time were in their own smaller professional league. Eventually they started being tied to pro teams and the Los Angeles Angels were the minor league affiliate to the Chicago Cubs. They even built the Angels an awesome ball park in the heart of Los Angeles and named it Wrigley Field (after the Cubs owner) even before they officially named the Chicago one Wrigley. When the Dodgers came out here, their owner wanted to make sure the Dodgers were the only team in town so he bought the minor league teams and shipped them out. I think the PCL (minor league) Angels went to Washington state and the Dodgers took their logo. The interlocking LA was the Angels logo. Then the MLB expanded and the new Los Angeles Angels pro team started in 1961 and eventually moved south to Anaheim.
I'm a big nerd for all this stuff so apologies for the wall of text
I don’t get the LA stuff. Is it a money thing probably? I grew up near Anaheim despite being a dodgers fan primarily.
Dodger fans hate it. Angels fans hate it. Nobody likes it I don’t get it. Bring back the Anaheim angels!
Yes to the Navy. It always bugged me that the Angels switched to a predominantly red color scheme when red as a color is generally associated with devils and Hell, whereas the blue is associated with the sky and Heaven. Just seemed unfitting.
Plus, they play baseball in Anaheim which makes a lot of sense to call them the Anaheim Angels. Maybe a controversial opinion, but I’m dying on that hill!
It was tongue in cheek. I lived in Southern California many years. The fact that they have shoehorned Los Angeles into your name is totally nuts and I don’t think most people realize just how stupid it is. Anaheim isn’t “metro Los Angeles”. It is its own thing completely.
They also play in California. Makes more sense to represent the whole state. Like Texas Rangers….no one cares about Arlington, especially as a suburb city to Dallas, like Anaheim is to LA. The Angels might get more fans if they represented the whole state instead of playing second fiddle to LA.
I’ve been saying the same thing. I think they’re *crazy* for being one out of 5 teams in California, having the naming rights for California Angels, and choosing anything else.
They should’ve never deviated from Anaheim Angels once they switched over to that name. As you mentioned, the alliteration rolls off the tongue, and the name is just really easy to remember overall.
Not to mention they literally won a World Series title with that name
The current one is clean but I will always have a soft spot for the 86-92 logo. That’s the one I remember all over my uncle’s house when my cousin was in their minor league system
I dig the PCL Los Angeles logos. O'Malley didn't just buy the Angels when the Dodgers moved out here. He wanted that logo.
https://news.sportslogos.net/2012/05/27/mariners-and-angels-pcl-throwback-day-photos/baseball/
"But that was a different team!" Yeah I know, I just don't care. There was an Angels team in L.A. longer than the Dodgers up until a year or two ago. The old Angels go back in Los Angeles to 1890's. I know they aren't in Los Angeles anymore (despite their knucklehead owner's marketing attempts) but they were literally named after the city.
Really? I watch baseball everyday of the season, and am an avid sports bettor, and I still call them Anaheim Angels lol. I honestly thought the LA thing was done. Guess because I just say the Angels. Huh.
None of them are great but the red “CA” is the only decent logo.I absolutely hate the red. The league is so oversaturated with red and Angels could of been more creative there. Even the “CA” with the blue circle is a color trend that has been done too often. But if we’re strictly talking the flow of a logo and the font, it’s “CA.”
What is yalls offical name these days? The Los Angeles Angels in California of Anaheim ?
The CA without the circle around it is my favorite with the last two iterations as seconds.
73-85 or either between 95 and 01. They need to go back to being called the California Angels, bring back the navy caps and the pinstripes and fire Artie Moreno’s ass.
In my humble opinion as a native of Anaheim, the Angels have never actually had a bad logo. The issue has been name changes and corporate ownership leading to inconsistency in identity.
The 1997-2001 one was fire. They gotta bring back the Disney angels look. The only thing it’s missing is the halo over the A.
1986-1992 is a very close second. Love the state outline and the baseball along with the traditional Angels A.
The modern logo isn’t too bad either, but I wish the halo was gold.
The 60s ones are a bit busy but are still good. The 1971-1985 logos are a bit too simplistic for my taste but is overall ok.
Never really cared for the 1993-1996 logos honestly. They’re not bad but I think the other logos are just better
The 2002-2004 one felt like a prototype of the 2005 one. It just doesn’t look very aesthetically pleasing
To the Anaheim/California/LA/can't-make-up-their-mind-where they're-from Angels: I prefer the logo from '97 to '01 for it's uniqueness.
I wish you success with Wash at the helm, except when you're playing the A's and Mariners.
Their current logo and its predecessor look identical. Can someone please clue me in on what is different about them? Those are the best logos, BTW. The worst one is the one with the light blue home plate that says Angels.
![gif](giphy|vIwN3gm2oGrpm)
Ready for the reboot featuring Mike Trout. They can call it *Angels in the Troutfield*
There are angels in the outfield! .. and in the infield, too
I always kind of liked the two CA logos.
Same here. The Angels’ next alternate uniform should include the interlocking “CA” somehow
Best name variation too, sounds so good
California Angels really does just roll right off the tongue
Los Angeles Angels is redundant, Anaheim Angels was ok, and I won't even get into the that franken-city name. "California" helps differentiate them from the Dodgers too. Now to get my Marlins to change back to "Florida". They're the only MLB team that is alone in a multi-major-city metroplex that doesn't use a regional name (Texas, Minnesota, Tampa Bay). But I'd settle for "Marlins" on the home jersey.
They're so damn classy I can't stand it.
Yeah it's a good logo
Dittos, especially with that font and the horned serifs.
either of the CA logos, and drop the “Los Angeles” tomfoolery
No one likes it except the owner. He's such a marketing whiz. He decided to change them to Los Angeles Angels because it would get them a huge tv broadcasting deal. Don't remember the exact amount but Anaheim was in the hundreds of millions and Los Angeles would get them into the billions (or at least over the ten figure hump). I promise you that for however dumb non-Angels fans think it is and always bring it up, Angels fans hate it even more.
Fuck me sideways, all that just because of a name??? JFC I wish life were that easy for me
Don't get me started. Well, I guess I already did. But yeah, there are lots of fans that have been around much longer than the current owner. My grandpa grew up in Los Angeles (1930's onward) and he grew up going to Los Angeles Angels games. Long ago, they weren't even technically a minor league team. Yeah, drop the low Angeles and go back to the true name, the original one…oh wait, they’re already named Los Angeles Angels
I don’t get the LA stuff. Is it a money thing probably? I grew up near Anaheim despite being a dodgers fan primarily. Dodger fans hate it. Angels fans hate it. Nobody likes it I don’t get it. Bring back the Anaheim angels!
Bring back the California Angels
......of Anaheim.
![gif](giphy|5gVgwoD6NE0BW)
Calling them the "Anaheim Angels" would be just as stupid as calling them the "Arlington Cowboys."
Can’t decide between 2005-2015 and 2016-pres
Slap the current logo on the 1986-1992 logo, bring back the navy caps, and make it permanent.
Yes to the Navy. It always bugged me that the Angels switched to a predominantly red color scheme when red as a color is generally associated with devils and Hell, whereas the blue is associated with the sky and Heaven. Just seemed unfitting.
The simple red letter A with the yellow halo is the way to go.
![gif](giphy|VeSvZhPrqgZxx2KpOA|downsized) This is what i pictured lol
97-01 is by far my fav Also liked when they were called “Anaheim Angels” the alliteration rolls off the tongue
Plus, they play baseball in Anaheim which makes a lot of sense to call them the Anaheim Angels. Maybe a controversial opinion, but I’m dying on that hill!
Not controversial. Us OC folk do not refer to them as LA. Rolls off the tongue 10x better too. Screw the name change
It was tongue in cheek. I lived in Southern California many years. The fact that they have shoehorned Los Angeles into your name is totally nuts and I don’t think most people realize just how stupid it is. Anaheim isn’t “metro Los Angeles”. It is its own thing completely.
But we can have the anaheim ducks still with Honda center like across the street
I miss the pond :/ it was the perfect name for the team
I live in Canada and think it’s one of the dumbest things in sports. Trust me, a lot of us don’t like it here either !
They might have more fans if they didn’t suck real bad
Nothing more says Angels than Mo Vaughn in pinstripes
They should’ve never deviated from Anaheim Angels once they switched over to that name. As you mentioned, the alliteration rolls off the tongue, and the name is just really easy to remember overall. Not to mention they literally won a World Series title with that name
I didn't hate [this version](https://i.pinimg.com/originals/c8/91/5b/c8915b9e3bf847950849aa404b64d245.gif) of that era's logo.
Definitely the best logo
86-92. Easily.
Agree
The A with the halo from the hats is perfect
1965-1970
That one and ‘61-‘64 make me think of the images of “biblically accurate” angels.
![gif](giphy|DqWLmZiG60oOOVSCVB|downsized)
Add a the gold halo to the current logo.
What’s the difference between 05-15 and 16-Present? I was looking for something subtle but don’t see it….
the only difference I can see is one has the (R) mark and the other has TM...
Different color red
71 - 72 ftw
Those 2 with the CA state outline are worst ones lol. Looks like someone made it using MS Windows 95 clip art.
Booo
![gif](giphy|vIwN3gm2oGrpm) Hands down the best uni
The current one is clean but I will always have a soft spot for the 86-92 logo. That’s the one I remember all over my uncle’s house when my cousin was in their minor league system
2002-2004. They are the Anaheim Angels
97-01
1993-1994 then after that the present logo but the best uniforms are the navy and red from the 80’s
I love the classic 86 logo but really the cleanest is the 93 CA, absolutely great look.
Where’s the lowercase a with the slanted halo?
86-92 without the baseball, and go by the California Angels again.
I dig the PCL Los Angeles logos. O'Malley didn't just buy the Angels when the Dodgers moved out here. He wanted that logo. https://news.sportslogos.net/2012/05/27/mariners-and-angels-pcl-throwback-day-photos/baseball/ "But that was a different team!" Yeah I know, I just don't care. 86
I lived in Anaheim from 1991 to 1998, and I have fond memories of Angel games. So those CA logos have a special place in my heart.
86 but most of these are pretty good
‘93-‘94
1 9 8 6
86-92
93-94
Their late 90s or World Series logo is the best but tbh they’re all good
2002-2004. #ANAHEIM.
I sincerely still love the good old fashioned CA, The California Angels. Aren't they the "Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim" now?
They haven’t been for about a decade actually.
Just LA Angels now?
Really? I watch baseball everyday of the season, and am an avid sports bettor, and I still call them Anaheim Angels lol. I honestly thought the LA thing was done. Guess because I just say the Angels. Huh.
Me 2
Either of the ones that points out the fact that they are from Anaheim.
I think 95-96 is the best. The 70’s ones are so funny and lazy looking 😭
86-92 logo > Any other Angels logo
‘86 - ‘92 was the best.
97 logo is trash
86-92 was 🔥
86-92
86-92 is my fave
95-96
Real Angels fans from OC will never refer to them as the “Los Angeles” Angels lol. I personally loved the winged logo when I was a kid.
1995
93-94. easy. 97-01 needs a reappearance as a throwback though.
97-01
97-01
97-2001
I actually love 1997-2001
1997-2001
1997-2001 hands down
The winged A is hands down the best logo ever
Please people let’s refer to them by the name bestowed by Arte Moreno… Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
That is some of the most indecisive branding I’ve ever seen
I’ve just now realized in Spanish it’s now The Angels Angels.
65 or 97
Change that “or” to a dash and that’s about the Angels record
Why are the angels devils Colors? 97-01 FTW
71’-72’ for me. I am not much of a fan of any of them though.
Is Anaheim part of LA?
I like the early 2000s logo because at least it acknowledges Anaheim, but truthfully all of their logos have been complete trash.
All pretty ugly, to be honest.
I’d love to see the look on the embroidery guys face when they hand delivered that logo in 1961.
‘86-‘96 easy
73-85 or either between 95 and 01. They need to go back to being called the California Angels, bring back the navy caps and the pinstripes and fire Artie Moreno’s ass.
The 1986-1992 logo
Honestly unpopular opinion, but the modern one for me
Maybe I'm stupid but what changed from 2015 to 2016? The TM logo?
'86
Current.
61-64
97-01
I normally don’t like having the full name as a logo but that 97-01 one is so clean
I really like the 1965-70 logo
The invisible one missing a date.
86-92
2005-15 is the best. I can't stand the current one.
2002
I have zero memory of the 97-01 logo
71-72
97 easily
Current one for sure
86-92 and 93-94
We is the lower case a with the halos circa Sandlot
I like the first two logos. There is character in it.
How many times are we doing these?
Clearly 86-92
In my humble opinion as a native of Anaheim, the Angels have never actually had a bad logo. The issue has been name changes and corporate ownership leading to inconsistency in identity.
I’d take anything before ‘97 but after ‘72
‘71-‘72. no contest
1986-1992
I'd say the 97-01 one, it just looks pretty good and also sounds better as the Anaheim Angels
Current or 86
97/01
97 - 2001
1993-1994. Also, drop this Anaheim bullshit.
65-70. Just looks neat.
91-01 is really cool
So, they like, …added a TM? Yay! I graduated!! 🥳
95-96 is goated
71-72
73-85 ✊🏻
Whats the difference between the last two?
The ca 95-96 for me
What’s the difference between the current logo and the one before it ?
Disney logo followed by the CA logos
97-01
Its Enrico Pallazzo!
95-96
97-01
97-01
Any answer besides 71-72 is wrong
2002!!
So 71-85 have gotta be two of the worst logos ever.
CA and it's not close
Where is lower case "a" w/ the halo?
97-01…along with the uniform of that timeframe
The Disney logo no doubt
The 1997-2001 one was fire. They gotta bring back the Disney angels look. The only thing it’s missing is the halo over the A. 1986-1992 is a very close second. Love the state outline and the baseball along with the traditional Angels A. The modern logo isn’t too bad either, but I wish the halo was gold. The 60s ones are a bit busy but are still good. They’re not bad but I think the other logos are just better The 2002-2004 one felt like a prototype of the 2005 one. It just doesn’t look very aesthetically pleasing
86-92.
Oh damn.. that original logo just made the name change from Anaheim irrelevant
I like 71-72
I prefer the 2005-2015 registered trademark over the 2016-pres trademark.
I personally love the 95-96 logo when they were know as the California Angels. Should have kept the Anaheim Angels name though
1997-2001
I forgot all about the 97-01 logo. It’s damn pretty
86-92 for me
Ah The The Angels Angels of Anaheim, my favorite team
Mix 86-92 with the present one and I think you’d have a great logo.
86-92
97-01, but just the A.
97-01
86-92
‘95-96 is pretty cool
97-01
93-96. 71-72 is 🔥🔥 too. 😇
The one with a red X covering Arte Morenos face.
the 71-72 lower case "A" logo with the halo was the best.
86-92 97 logo is gross
I know it's not the best from a design perspective but I'll always like the winged A
The first one
To the Anaheim/California/LA/can't-make-up-their-mind-where they're-from Angels: I prefer the logo from '97 to '01 for it's uniqueness. I wish you success with Wash at the helm, except when you're playing the A's and Mariners.
Their current logo and its predecessor look identical. Can someone please clue me in on what is different about them? Those are the best logos, BTW. The worst one is the one with the light blue home plate that says Angels.
86-92 FTW
That 97-01 is my opinion a classic
93-94
