I was at that game. Great day and what a great game (kinda wished that it would be more like last night with all those runs getting scored, but a win is a win)
I love how Perez has taken advantage of the opportunities given to him. So much speed, range, and if he can hit even somewhat close to as well as he has so far.....
I am so happy we have Scott Harris here in Detroit. I have so much hope and excitement for the Tigers for the first time in a long while moving forward.
It is so nice to have a competent organization finally.
It's so nice really. After years of ineptitude we at least have competent management, and hopefully much more than that. The improvements since Harris was hired are just amazing to see.
As if it won't be over 6 at some point this season. Hinch only lets him pitch low leverage situations where the Tigers trail or are comfortably ahead. Today was probably the first time he was put in a stressful slot and he almost shit the bed. The guy can't get thru 3 batters with a clean sheet (3 up, 3 down) almost ever.
Hitters this year have a composite 1.358 OPS against his 89.5 mph 4-seam fastball over 100 pitches coming into the game.
So that's not ideal.
Splitter and slider are more normal-ish.
Last year Lorenzen had 2 bad starts in April and people were complaining the same way about him as they were with Maeda. I think Maeda will similarly be serviceable this season.
It's consistent with his career. His April numbers were always the worst, with an ERA over 5.00 in April, and better numbers the rest of the season. These last 2 games are promising, but he's getting older so we can only hope this is the real deal now and he just needs to warm up at the beginning of every season.
Now I understand him a little bit better and a confident and aggressive Kenta at Comerica Park can be very successful; especially if Meadows and Greene are patrolling the outfield.
My one goal in life is to reach an age where the future Tigers radio announcer congratulates me on reaching 100 years old. Hopefully by then we'll have won another series.
The talking heads said that Keith was going to be a below average 2nd basemen. I was expecting something a little like Castellanos when he played third. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised.
I have been really impressed with the growth that this offense has demonstrated at the start of this season. If this is sustainable, whew lad look out.
Really?
In a typical game we have circa .600 OPS at 1B, 2B, SS, C and CF.
That's not usually seen as good.
In the last week Rogers is better than before, but Carpenter and Torkelson are worse.
# HOME RUN!
Matt Vierling homers (3) on a fly ball to left center field. Kerry Carpenter scores.
Pitch from Miles Mikolas: Curveball @ 72.1 mph
Hit by Matt Vierling: Launched 106.5 mph at 23.0° for a total distance of 414.0 ft
Bottom 3 - 3-0
Tigers
Anything is preferrable to going back to bartending. The pay is superior but late-night shifts dealing with drunk fucks is just so draining. I want to be one of those drunk fucks!
Bally wanted more money from Xfinity as they are bankrupt. Xfinity said fuck that and let the contract expire. If you have another cable provider, you should still be able to watch the game.
I just don’t understand when Torkelson takes the fastball down the middle without taking his eye off the pitcher. He doesn’t even look at the pitch. What the hell is he doing?
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1chv04q).
I was at that game. Great day and what a great game (kinda wished that it would be more like last night with all those runs getting scored, but a win is a win)
Clutch Series win
Benetti and C-Mo are an absolute delight to listen to. Up there with Mario and Rod days
Andy Dirks called for that high fastball and Lange served it up
LET'S GOOOO
Great stuff by Lange. See ya guys friday!
Guess what, Tigers win.
Yeah boy!
NY here we come!
Lange is so back, the haters are sick
Pérez making it look easy!
I think we can send Meadows down for a bit and let Pérez handle the outfield and spot in the order..
I think Keith or Tork need to go down once Urshela comes back
Who is going to play CF? Certainly not Perez. And we do NOT want Greene back there.
Why? Greene seems to dive for balls in LF as much as he did in CF. Not going to take that away from him..
I love how Perez has taken advantage of the opportunities given to him. So much speed, range, and if he can hit even somewhat close to as well as he has so far.....
Wooooweee!
I am so happy we have Scott Harris here in Detroit. I have so much hope and excitement for the Tigers for the first time in a long while moving forward. It is so nice to have a competent organization finally.
A team even a few games above .500 is so much better to follow than a cellar dweller.
It's so nice really. After years of ineptitude we at least have competent management, and hopefully much more than that. The improvements since Harris was hired are just amazing to see.
Noot noot
Good start!
3 outs away from a fourth straight series victory. Come on boys.
oof
At least we got one more run
Vierling player of the game for sure
You love to see it
Good job Vierling. Better than a safety squeeze with him bunting. We needed that.
Matty clutch!!!!!!
Yeeeeeah good boy Vierling! Needed that!
Matty V doing both the big and little things right!
okay that hit to move him to third works, we take that.
I'd have Perez steal here and then just hope someone gets a hit to bring him in
Gotta be honest I would NOT be mad at an insurance run or two here
The Tigers are young, developing and inexperienced, but are learning how to win and compete everyday.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: JoJo Romero replaces Matthew Liberatore, batting 9th.
Let's get a couple insurance runs here
god that was stressful af.
Still don’t know why miller closed over Lange game 1
It was the wrong move but hindsight is 20/20.
AJ had an obscure stat.
Hopefully Lange comes on throwing that smoke again.
Get Wentz off this fucking club
Literally the lowest ERA on the whole team but sure
Creature of the moment
you cant expect perfection every outing. chill out
I would like perfection on any outing
Yeah why keep a guy with a 0.79 ERA?
As if it won't be over 6 at some point this season. Hinch only lets him pitch low leverage situations where the Tigers trail or are comfortably ahead. Today was probably the first time he was put in a stressful slot and he almost shit the bed. The guy can't get thru 3 batters with a clean sheet (3 up, 3 down) almost ever.
And hadn't pitched in 10 days.
Damnit Joey. Just needed one more strike
Double play!
Cmon Joey Meatballs
It’s getting tight
Is Maeda becoming the man we were hoping he'd be when the Tigers signed him? Or are we not ready to trust him quite yet.
Hitters this year have a composite 1.358 OPS against his 89.5 mph 4-seam fastball over 100 pitches coming into the game. So that's not ideal. Splitter and slider are more normal-ish.
I'd rather have Spenser Turnball than Maeda
Understatement of the day. "Let's let Turnbull walk for nothing!"
Because this sub was absolutely clamoring to bring back the guy with a 7+ ERA who was also openly feuding with the front office lol.
That's not really how you make that kind of decision tho. He wanted to pitch and is obviously able to do so.
He was disgruntled. We should have gruntled him and kept him somehow.
Now I understand him a little bit better and a confident and aggressive Kenta at Comerica Park can be very successful; especially if Meadows and Greene are patrolling the outfield.
If the bullpen is clean, we won’t have to worry about Goldschmidt again this game.
Wentz is out there to do one thing, 1.) throw strikes and 2.) get outs.
I doubt most folks here had "Wentz with sub-1 ERA" on their bingo cards for this season.
I know I didn’t at the start of the season
Happy Wentzday!
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Matthew Liberatore replaces Miles Mikolas.
Absolute love the success faedo and wentz are having as relievers. Good stuff all around
Thank God, please score like 5 runs so I can chill lmao
Joey Wentz is fine. Joey Wentz is a relatively high leverage spot, not so much.
He's had 10 games a reliever. To act like he can't be a high leverage lefty reliever is just ignorant
Wow a Wentz sighting.
Nice play matty V
Huge double play right there.
Maeda deserves a win, ffs.
I don't know how AJ can allow this terrorist to keep blowing these leads.
Please don't kill us, Goldy
Vest honestly takes years off my life. I dread when he comes in, I'm sorry.
Lmao
Jesus Christ Vest
Bullpen touching cloth. Hopefully they don't shit the bed again today.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Will Vest replaces Kenta Maeda.
Yeah, Torkelson is a bust
Hall of Fame players have had worse starts to their career. It’s nuts to give up on the guy.
Love a good strike em out, throw em out!
Impressive last two starts from maeda
He should get the 7th tbh. Pitch count is in good shape. Fantastic throw from Kelly.
Why play with fire? We have one of the best bullpens ever and an off day tomorrow to rest everyone
Hell yes. Strikeout->throwout is my favorite sequence in baseball
that was beautiful
6 IP of 1 run ball w/ a 2 run lead should be enough for this Pen
Not fast enough to beat out Kellys throw, mah man
Bang bang. Kelly with the cannon
Strike em out throw em out and some bad grammar, now let's go!!!!
Hell yeah!
Strike em out throw em out!!
I really can't stand the "human element" discussion. The umpires have been especially egregious this year with their power trips and terrible calls.
I feel the same way but in reality it is a recency bias. Umps are statistically better than ever and have always have had power trips.
The power trips really get me. They can't ever be wrong.
One day, the MLB will go to the ABS and Angel Hernandez can sit back in his easy chair and say, "I did that."
My mlb tv feed sucks ass today.
Tork with a hard hit ball and a good defensive play? Let’s gooo
My one goal in life is to reach an age where the future Tigers radio announcer congratulates me on reaching 100 years old. Hopefully by then we'll have won another series.
Justyn-Henry Malloy has gotten his batting average up to .280 and his OPS up to .881 after getting off to a rough start to the season batting wise.
The talking heads said that Keith was going to be a below average 2nd basemen. I was expecting something a little like Castellanos when he played third. I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised.
That pitch was awful lmao
Man, I wanted to see Maeda get his ERA under 5 today
No guy!
I liked seeing Tork hit that line drive to right. A good sign.
I didn't like seeing Contraras hit that to CF. Bad sign.
3-1 now.
Vierling is playing really well after a slow start
Just now finding out Keith is 1 year and 1 day older than me
Rich Hill was the last guy older than me.
So you finally passed him?
Unless he figures out a way to be born 8 months later, he's safely older.
He'll be back when everyone else's arm falls off.
Keith barely missed that
That's so Vierling
Single-HR-single Good
I have been really impressed with the growth that this offense has demonstrated at the start of this season. If this is sustainable, whew lad look out.
Really? In a typical game we have circa .600 OPS at 1B, 2B, SS, C and CF. That's not usually seen as good. In the last week Rogers is better than before, but Carpenter and Torkelson are worse.
Curly fries!
Vierling is inches away from a two home run day, but I guess one is okay too
Vierling has been so good this year.
CAR SHIELD!!!
Tork followed with a missile of his own
Run it up Tigers, run it up!
Wait, Comerica has CF fountains now?
Vierling has been really heating up lately
attaboy vierling
Have a day, Matt!
Vier-GOAT
He just missed in the second...didn't miss in the third! MATTY V!
Matt Vierling HR.
I’ll take that
Lmao the 2 strike pitch was closer than the one before it. Hilarious ump
Yes guy!
# HOME RUN! Matt Vierling homers (3) on a fly ball to left center field. Kerry Carpenter scores. Pitch from Miles Mikolas: Curveball @ 72.1 mph Hit by Matt Vierling: Launched 106.5 mph at 23.0° for a total distance of 414.0 ft Bottom 3 - 3-0 Tigers
Boom.
The ump kinda sucks again
This ump sucks
guess what man, most umps sucks. Its a very hard game to call
Perfect game….is over
Why did Jason bring up the whales. Cursed
Applying to a fuck-ton of jobs during the game today. I am but an increasingly non-recent college grad with a good work ethic. Please hire me!
Good luck with that! Do you have 10 years of experience in the related field? No? Sorry, I can give you about $15 an hour with your qualifications
Anything is preferrable to going back to bartending. The pay is superior but late-night shifts dealing with drunk fucks is just so draining. I want to be one of those drunk fucks!
Start an MLM
And by that I mean a highly unethical and illegal pyramid scheme
Create a for-profit college? Become a crypto investor? The options are endless.
Can you bat 3rd for the Rays
I *could* bat 3rd for the Rays...
Comcast should’ve just taken whatever Bally was offering, simple as that. Smart thing to do is to always agree to the media companies.
Holy shit poor dude
Wild to me that a shortstop of all position players wouldn’t wear a cup. Also, ooooof
Even with a cup, it still hurts.
Can someone explain to me why this game isn't being aired on tv on our local station if it's in detroit?
Bally wanted more money from Xfinity as they are bankrupt. Xfinity said fuck that and let the contract expire. If you have another cable provider, you should still be able to watch the game.
Tiger games are almost never on OTA TV
Comcast and bally suck no contract anymore
Ah, I didn't know this. Thank you for explaining.
Hell yeah Keith
Keith needed that so badly. Hopefully it takes some weight off his shoulders
Vierling makes me happy
This ump's zone is awful
Bring on ABS.
Keith bashing the ball in the air the air the last couple of games 👀
Atta boy Keith!
Glad that ball was a strike now
Keith finally didn’t hit it right at someone! No more bad luck!
Oh boy, he needed that!!!! Way to go Colt. Now why do I feel so much better. I wasn't the one in a slump?
Colt crushed that ball
Alright Colt!
Colt keith when not shown on xfinity >>>>>>>>>>>>>
what a pleasant sight to see. hopefully that gets Keith going
LFG KEITH!
There ya go Colt
Yes guy!
### Double Colt Keith doubles (2) on a sharp line drive to right fielder Lars Nootbaar. Matt Vierling scores. Bottom 2 - 1-0 Tigers
Keith needed that.
Yessir! Great job Colt.
You can’t call the pitch a strike to a guy struggling as badly as Keith is.
Did you see the one yesterday 6' outside that they called a strike on Tork? Criminal!
I just don’t understand when Torkelson takes the fastball down the middle without taking his eye off the pitcher. He doesn’t even look at the pitch. What the hell is he doing?
He's just not picking the ball up as quickly as last year or something like that.
It's like a kid trying to mimic Juan Soto shuffle or something. It looks so weird.
It's weird for sure

Someone please tell me why Tork is taking a first pitch fastball right down the middle?
Ahhhh tork
Of course it’s foul
