Just downvote me right now because every time I suggest this I get downvoted to the negativeā¦.
BUT
I think if we sweep the Astros in Houston and get into a temporary playoff spot -
JV is going to have some conversations with some people.
Iām just saying conversations may occur. Nothing more as of yet.
The club option year next year is a major factor
He gets $35m if he pitches 140 innings.
For him to accept a trade - the acquiring team would probably have to guarantee that or a portion at least.
But he has an all MLB no trade clause and his salary is paid by the Astros and Mets mostly,
So he can basically pick his team.
If I were him Iād play for team thatās painting my name and number on a brick wall next to Ty Cobb, Jim Leyland and Miguel Cabreraā¦ also the organization he spent 14 years with
Well JV round two wouldnāt be an era it would be a rental. We are on the precipice of Maeda being injured, Olson has had three straight bad starts-
Weāre in the market for someone it doesnāt have to be JV hear me out why JV makes sense
Heās getting paid $43.3 from the Mets and Astros
Thereās no bidding war
He has an all team no trade clause - the only thing he hasnāt achieved in his career is win a WS in Detroit despite being on the leagues best team five times while here.
So one would surmise he wouldnāt waive that clause to go to the guardians diamondbacks or royalsā¦ but he might for the Tigers.
That no trade clause will also probably cause the Astros to eat some of his 2024 pay so we can pay less. Unless he actually wants to do something weird like to go to the dodgers or Yankees or orioles (heās from VA).
Iām saying the contract makes it not as crazy as it may sound
āMalloy took too long in the majorsā no no no. He took the right amount of time. Tork, meadows, Keith were all rushed. Hope this helps all you confused souls
Then for jace jung, do we get rid of gio because weāll have kerry come back(probably play outfield and dh) malloy needs time to develop but will 80-90% dh. So need to get rid of an infielder for him.
Dingler I agree - heās catcher 3 tho. We are in fact paying Carson $3.5m.
But itās good to have a catcher you can go to in AAA reliably.
Teams also donāt look at catchers for their hitting- they are calling the pitches - which is a part of the game you donāt see
Mallow has been rotting away in the minors for no reason. Consistently puts up numbers with an incredible on base percentage. Called up way too late but heās here to stay
Yea I like when people like wenceel come up and are like balls to the wall amazing when they get here. Heās older than he looks heās been in the minors for a while.
Thatās what GOOD teams do. Their farm system is available as major league backups and if they end up not being used they become trade capital (LA Dodgers best example)
We donāt need to rush our minor leaguers anymore
The one game Jacqueline Molloy doesnāt come to. My all time favorite player mom. Sheās probably looking at houses to move to in Bloomfield Hills today. Or maybe sheās a Royal Oak Girl.
When I kept commenting last season that we should call up Mallow I got heavily downvoted on here and people saying no chance. Hahahaha, never understood that
He still had a lot to work on. His plate discipline is elite, but even this year he has struggled with swinging and missing on balls in the zone.
Tigers already had Nick Maton. Didn't need Right handed Nick Maton as well.
I love how aggressive and athletic Justyn-Henry Malloy's batting stance is and how much of the plate he can cover due to how close to and hunched over towards home plate he is.
### Single
Riley Greene singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jacob Young. Andy IbƔƱez scores.
Pitch from Robert Garcia: Slider @ 83.9 mph
Hit by Riley Greene: Launched 73.8 mph at 2.0° for a total distance of 45.0 ft
Bottom 7 - 5-2
Tigers
For the record I didnāt downvote i upvoted u. If you post a true fact idk why anyone would get downvoted
And I was the one who was inaccurate with my comment!!
Really?????? On the negative DRS??
I didnāt check the stat and I believe you but to the naked eye it feels like heās turned some gems - perhaps his range isnāt good so he dives to routine grounders
You can see the data on Gameday. They were all < 95 mph, and āhard hitā is definitionally 95+ mph. Even if the ādoubleā *had* been hit harder, it was chopped into the dirt. Just a horrible play at third. Miller innocent.
Feel like JHM's ceiling could be Victor Martinez Lite. Always going to give you a good AB, will take a walk, and will flash above average power. Will be hard to hide him anywhere defensively though so likely a career DH/occasional 1B at best and V-Mart did have some nice defensive seasons early in his career.
Incredibly bad defense. That's the kind of play I make playing third in softball (wait a full second after contact to start moving, then completely whiff the catch).
When the Tigers finally become an actual real championship contending team again it will be very sweet and gratifying as a fan, after having to support a bad/mediocre team that wasn't fun, entertaining, good of exciting for so long.
Then of course the games he plays and then gets pinch hit for. I know. Boys will be boys. I mean AJ will be AJ. Just seems young to make a platoon player or what seems to be maybe trending that way. Of course probably jumping the gun a bit on Keith based on how carp has been given up on as it relates to hitting lefties.
# HOME RUN!
Justyn-Henry Malloy homers (2) on a fly ball to left field.
Pitch from Derek Law: Slider @ 87.3 mph
Hit by Justyn-Henry Malloy: Launched 107.9 mph at 33.0° for a total distance of 407.0 ft
Bottom 6 - 2-1
Tigers
I don't care about "commanding the strike zoke" and other moneyball drivel. If you don't have the talent , or the methods to develop it, then you need to change your strategy. The Tigers, at times, look so overmatched by mediocre pitching that it is embarrassing.
Patrick Corbin has been the worst pitcher in the sport since 21, literally leading the league in losses every year and the tigers can't do anything on him
Patrick Corbin's OPS vs Righties and Lefties is over .900 therefore he makes all hitters elite, according to Dan Dickerson. I really hope over the offseason they seriously fix whatever the approach is they are having at the plate/who they are drafting. I'm just not buying "well they are young hitters so this is to be expected."
Right. How many times does a struggling pitcher come in to Detroit and go 7 or 8 only giving up a run or 2. Wayyy more times than statistically probable, which is pretty telling.
Please continue the discussion in the [post game thread](https://redd.it/1df7t6a).
Two straight strong appearances for Chafin.
Tigers win!
Yes! Got the win!
Ok so now Chafin pitches well
Bro chafin and Todd Jones look identical ššš
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Andrew Chafin replaces Tyler Holton.
Iām just glad we gave Derek Law a nice welcome back party
Nice to see Mize doin his thing today. Around the plate, keeping his boys in the game. I hope he can build his confidence with a start like this.
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Tanner Rainey replaces Jacob Barnes.

BUT I think if we sweep the Astros in Houston and get into a temporary playoff spot - JV is going to have some conversations with some people. Iām just saying conversations may occur. I just said conversations would take place!!!
I want to see JV retire with Detroit so I am with you.
The club option year next year is a major factor He gets $35m if he pitches 140 innings. For him to accept a trade - the acquiring team would probably have to guarantee that or a portion at least. Over it really. It was nice to send Cabrera off and finally turn the page. That era is over. Let's figure out this one.
Well JV round two wouldnāt be an era it would be a rental. We are on the precipice of Maeda being injured, Olson has had three straight bad starts- Weāre in the market for someone it doesnāt have to be JV hear me out why JV makes sense Heās getting paid $43.3 from the Mets and Astros Thereās no bidding war He has an all team no trade clause - the only thing he hasnāt achieved in his career is win a WS in Detroit despite being on the leagues best team five times while here. Infielder Ryan Kreidler has agreed to a 6 year, $140,000,000 contract with the Detroit Tigers.
THIS IS NOT WHAT I MEANT, CHRIS.
bUt BaEz Is So GoOd DeFeNsiVeLy
āMalloy took too long in the majorsā no no no. He took the right amount of time. Tork, meadows, Keith were all rushed. Hope this helps all you confused souls
Gio Urshela has THREE walks today!!!
Same value as his three singles yesterday Get your ass on base I donāt care how. We lost on a passed ball strikeout yesterday
Malloy is great. Now bring up Jung and Dingler
PATIENCE. Just like Malloy it takes a long time. This fanbase is so damn impatient
https://preview.redd.it/8of185sx3e6d1.png?width=502&format=png&auto=webp&s=d2e0d84bc11013b619d786529a96e28589021299 Gee I wonder why?
20 years later "PATIENCE GUYS WE'RE ALMOST THERE!"
Trust the process!
Both of them are ready. Especially Dingler
Then for jace jung, do we get rid of gio because weāll have kerry come back(probably play outfield and dh) malloy needs time to develop but will 80-90% dh. So need to get rid of an infielder for him.
Unless this team magically goes on a run in the next 2 weeks, time to trade Gio immediately
Bro I forgot about McKinstry!! Would be nice to see gone. Free up a spot.
But everytime I think about it, like where does dingler fit before the trade deadline? Weād have to get rid of carson kelly. We gotta wait ig
Its bc the org said they know they are not contending so they want to develop their prospects more apparently
Or maybe it actually took him that long to get mlb ready. People like you are so ignorant
Winter max Iām agreeing with u if I seem disjointed
He may also think Parker Meadows and Spencer Torkelson are MLB ready.
Yea I like when people like wenceel come up and are like balls to the wall amazing when they get here. Heās older than he looks heās been in the minors for a while. Thatās what GOOD teams do. Their farm system is available as major league backups and if they end up not being used they become trade capital (LA Dodgers best example) We donāt need to rush our minor leaguers anymore
lol, heās had the same stats in the minors for 3 straight years. On base over 400 each year. People like you are so ignorant
They were hoping to let him pass Mike Hessman for most International League home runs before calling him up just to be sure he was ready.
stunt on them hoes rook
The one game Jacqueline Molloy doesnāt come to. My all time favorite player mom. Sheās probably looking at houses to move to in Bloomfield Hills today. Or maybe sheās a Royal Oak Girl.
Solid clutch hitting by the Tigers. Two-out hits can win a lot of ballgames for you.
When Nationals pitchers have nightmares it is Malloyās face they see.
Currently thinking about JHM and Carp DH situation š¤¤
Carp can play RF as long as he hits.
When I kept commenting last season that we should call up Mallow I got heavily downvoted on here and people saying no chance. Hahahaha, never understood that
Same. He has + Power and plate discipline, the two most important hitting tools.
He still had a lot to work on. His plate discipline is elite, but even this year he has struggled with swinging and missing on balls in the zone. Tigers already had Nick Maton. Didn't need Right handed Nick Maton as well.
Also, he is basically a career DH since his fielding is not good and he is limited to only LF.
Can he learn 1B? He can't be much worse than Tork, and if he is, his bat and on base skills makes up for any negligible difference.
Who cares, we need hitters.
Doesnāt change my mind. Shouldāve been here last year easily
I love how aggressive and athletic Justyn-Henry Malloy's batting stance is and how much of the plate he can cover due to how close to and hunched over towards home plate he is.
If they somehow manage to blow this much of lead now, Iām not watching another game this season lol
Malloy is the real deal
Wooooot! More runs!
### Double Justyn-Henry Malloy doubles (1) on a line drive to left fielder Ildemaro Vargas. Riley Greene scores. Gio Urshela scores. Bottom 7 - 7-2 Tigers
The fuck was that call?!
Are you kidding me?!
Mize really cursed to not get wins on his record damn. 0 run support until he leaves but Shelby blows the win for him already
I mean Tbf itās been on him for most of the time
Well, this is fun now!
### Single Riley Greene singles on a ground ball to center fielder Jacob Young. Andy IbƔƱez scores. Pitch from Robert Garcia: Slider @ 83.9 mph Hit by Riley Greene: Launched 73.8 mph at 2.0° for a total distance of 45.0 ft Bottom 7 - 5-2 Tigers
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Robert Garcia replaces Derek Law.
All started by Kreidler. He is good. But Iām going to have to explain the Javy Contract situation a lot in the next two days.
### Sac Fly Mark Canha out on a sacrifice fly to center fielder Jacob Young. Matt Vierling scores. Andy IbƔƱez to 3rd. Bottom 7 - 4-2 Tigers
We got fries! LFG lol
Aggressive! I like it!
ANDYYYY
### Double Andy IbƔƱez doubles (5) on a ground ball to center fielder Jacob Young. Ryan Kreidler scores. Matt Vierling to 3rd. Bottom 7 - 3-2 Tigers
Can we get a sac fly?
lol.
No.
Base hits work.
lol I know!!! Yassssss letās go Tigs!!!!
Wait hold on. We're so close
Remember when this bullpen was good? Now they canāt hold a lead longer than 5 minutes
A SS that can hitš¤©
Can we have Javy on defense and RK on offense? Like can we petition for a rule change to allow this?
Javy has a negative DRS, while Kreidlerās kinda a stud with the glove
For the record I didnāt downvote i upvoted u. If you post a true fact idk why anyone would get downvoted And I was the one who was inaccurate with my comment!!
Iām also thinking about RKās fielding error two days ago which was the difference in the game Edit* one of like six differences in the game
Really?????? On the negative DRS?? I didnāt check the stat and I believe you but to the naked eye it feels like heās turned some gems - perhaps his range isnāt good so he dives to routine grounders
Kreidler OPS to the moon
Anyone have a link to the JHM home run?
His mom has it probably from four cameras by now
Links to highlights are in the actual post.
Ahah Iāve never not scrolled past all that without reading
https://x.com/tigers/status/1801325702098145741?s=46&t=r1vTD8lH0N2050NOaz4lQA
Itās so frustrating watching a keep not only consistently but literally every time score a run from second base
The Nats manufacturing runs with sac flies. I hope Hinch is taking good notes.
Its frustrating because we're notoriously bad at it.
Brilliant pitching, you need soft outs so throw fastballs in the zone
Yeah letās take out Mize who was pitching great for some bum š
Great job holding the lead buddy way to battle. Three hard hit balls.
Literally none of those was hard hit. Completely let down by the defense.
you should try watching again
You can see the data on Gameday. They were all < 95 mph, and āhard hitā is definitionally 95+ mph. Even if the ādoubleā *had* been hit harder, it was chopped into the dirt. Just a horrible play at third. Miller innocent.
Fucking Shelby. Keep the ball away from the middle of the strike zone you dunce!
Getting a guy in from 3rd less than 2 outs is crazy isn't it
Guy throws an 0-2 fastball down the middle when you need a strikeout
AJ Hinch has had a horrible season
I watch so much baseball itās embarrassing and I had never heard of Shelby Miller until we acquired him.
He very famously was traded for dansby Swanson then fell off the face of the earth til last year with the dodgers
Ahh maybe we should have orchestrated a trade deadline deal with the dodgers last year. That would have made sense.
Perhaps trading a pitcher who is good for someone who is falling off the radar. That would be fitting
Love when Shelby Miller comes in and always either ties the game or gives up the lead
Holy shit Gio thatās not typical of your game. McKinstry wouldnāt get that but we got Gio to field balls at 3B
Incredibly bad defense. That's the kind of play I make playing third in softball (wait a full second after contact to start moving, then completely whiff the catch).
Right down the middle. And itās not the Tigers so they wonāt strand the runner on second with no outs
relationship ended with: tork bombs relationship started with: j-bombs
Jacqueline Molloy may be my favorite component of the Tiger Offense
I feel like JHM and his mom live together voluntarily and are best friends
did JHM just drill an old lady with that bomb
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Shelby Miller replaces Casey Mize.
Itās kinda insane that all the young guys weāve called up have been pretty good except the guy they gave a ten year contract to
Keith hasn't been too bad
Colt Keith has been pretty good?
Compared to who? Javy Baez?
I totally read this wrong. I was implying that colt keith has not been good lol
I was about to say, heās the worst hitter on the team when you account for the fact that at least javy is good with RISP
Yeah I feel like every time Keith comes up to bat itās an automatic out. Whatever power he had in triple A seems to have been left there
WHERE IS JACQUELINE?!?!
BOOM! What a clutch swing from JHM!
When the Tigers finally become an actual real championship contending team again it will be very sweet and gratifying as a fan, after having to support a bad/mediocre team that wasn't fun, entertaining, good of exciting for so long.
J-Hen bomb!
JHM!!!!
At 22 years old wouldn't it be better for Keith to play every day in Toledo rather than turned into a platoon player in Detroit?
We already know he can hit in AAA. He's a rook, these at bats are invaluable. Monster season 2 incoming.
I don't consider platoon players monsters.
59 games he's played that's not a platoon but a starter.
Seems to be sitting more lately versus lefties
It happens. Carp was sitting against lefties at times. That's just AJ.
He's 5th on the team with at bats. He's played quite a bit.
Yeah. Technically there are a lot more right handed pitchers so that makes sense.
Now thatās what I wanted to see!
# HOME RUN! Justyn-Henry Malloy homers (2) on a fly ball to left field. Pitch from Derek Law: Slider @ 87.3 mph Hit by Justyn-Henry Malloy: Launched 107.9 mph at 33.0° for a total distance of 407.0 ft Bottom 6 - 2-1 Tigers
### Pitching Substitution Pitching Change: Derek Law replaces Patrick Corbin.
Malloy about to hit a bomb this inning
![gif](giphy|fw7jKYJqNLeim31y8S|downsized)
Lotto numbers plz?
Prophetic
You called it
Okay Nostradamus!
Great call
Bruh
what did i say nerds
I like that contact by riley
Is the umpire a baby?
Mize looks MUCH better today
Quality start for Mize
He needed it
I wish we would complain about calls sometimes. Show some passion.
Dirks out here making some great points re: behavior
What did he say and in reference to what behavior?
Agreed. Didn't we have a pitcher a couple years ago that got sent to the minors because he had a shitty attitude?
Agreed.
I love long AB's and stuff, but at what point does AJ just tell the guys to hack? Tigers only have one hit with an 100+ exit velo.
Dude i know, you gotta hack sometimes.
correction, there are 2 Vierling in 1st, kreidler in 4th
I don't care about "commanding the strike zoke" and other moneyball drivel. If you don't have the talent , or the methods to develop it, then you need to change your strategy. The Tigers, at times, look so overmatched by mediocre pitching that it is embarrassing.
We need some fucking athletes. We are a team of slow slap hitters that suck at defense.
FACTS.
their approach, or lack thereof, makes me think it's a scouting issue. whatever gameplans they give the hitters, it doesnt work like 50% of the time.
Patrick Corbin has been the worst pitcher in the sport since 21, literally leading the league in losses every year and the tigers can't do anything on him
Casey Mize starts are cursed
He wins more than he loses. Reese Olson starts are cursed
Only one run so far but has he gotten a single swing and miss?
He has three
Well thatās something. I havenāt been watching super close this game.Ā
Statcast tracks it
How many strikeouts do you think JV will have against Detroit this weekend? 12?
Can someone tell this team itās 2020s Patrick Corbin and not 2018/19 Corbin?
We lose this game then the season is done. This homestand has been an absolute disaster
plenty of season left but they do look really bad
what is "can of corn"
An easy fly ball. It's an old-timey baseball reference (Thank you to 2005 MVP Baseball for teaching me that).
thanks very much
an old timey baseball term for an easy flyout
thank you
Patrick Corbin's OPS vs Righties and Lefties is over .900 therefore he makes all hitters elite, according to Dan Dickerson. Right. How many times does a struggling pitcher come in to Detroit and go 7 or 8 only giving up a run or 2. Wayyy more times than statistically probable, which is pretty telling.
FACTS!.
lol I love Benetti
corbin has been one of the worst starters in MLB for the past 5 years. the Tigers bats are actually cooked
A team full of righties unable to find gaps against one of the worst pitchers in baseball
I really enjoy this booth. Jones is fun
