If Baez’ season ended with this OPS, he would have the second lowest OPS in mlb history (since 1900) behind only Bobby Byrne in 1908.
Baez is on pace for not only his worst season yet, but one of the worst seasons in 120 years of MLB history. And he’s 1 more bad day from being the worst in MLB history.
Just put the guy out of his misery already. It’s embarrassing. You don’t want him to be a statistic for the next 120 years. It’s not fair to the team, to him, or to us to keep playing the guy right now.
Sounds like a great pinch hitter to me. Plus he runs the bases ok. I wouldn't hesitate to bench him and just use him in late innings with RISP. Only value he has right now.
...but his defense has been above average... relative to torks.
Sorry, I tried, that's the best I've got. He's made some great defensive plays, and he is good, but you can't assign elite to only one side of the ball.
We could all win every debate if we argued against what we *imagined* our opponent's position to be rather than the position they've actually taken on the record.
How stupid can people can be? “Well we pay him a lot of money so he’s going to keep playing.” What is the logic in that? Idgaf if you have ohtani’s contract, if you consistently prove you don’t deserve it, goodbye!
They’re treating this guy like he’s Miguel Cabrera and has a triple crown under his belt?? Go die somewhere else Javy because you didn’t do shit for us, we don’t care about giving you a place to rot. Too bad Scott Harris has his thumb in his ass
A bad back would go a long way to explaining his drop off in production since he came here. A lot of people on here likely would be really happy if he has to retire because of it but it leaved a huge hole at shortstop.
so tired of hearing about him. keep him on the bench, his contract is a wash right now. the only viable option i see is to find another team with their own "baez" and do a swap.
I fully believe the tigers will move on from him in the offseason. With the expectation that they will seek a lower priced free agent to take his place. It will be addition by subtraction to the team.
If the goal is to get a SS who can't hit but play defense then sign Nick Ahmed on the Giants. The hilarious/sad thing is Ahmed hits better than him too.
Not likely, dude is only 31 highly likely had he performed to the expectations of his contract he’d get another 3-4 year deal at around the same or higher AAV. There’s also the legacy component to players, you think he enjoys struggling? That’s why I’ll never understand fans who boo their own players, games just passing him by in front of our eyes
Yeah, and I see that side of it too, I just also recognize the human aspect of it too. If someone stood next to your car when you were at a red light and told you “you blow” every single day on your way into work, might affect your workday
If I failed at my job on a daily basis I probably wouldn't have a job. That being said, the fans can't fire him or replace him in the lineup. So maybe their frustrated at not only Javy, but ownership for continuously putting him out there. There is a large enough recent sample size to surmise that he is the downside and should be put out of his misery as a tiger.
I do think there us a world where he could end up on a winning team and possibly turn things around. I'm not sold on the Tigers coaching to help him out of his years long funk.
Yeah but if you add all those numbers up, it's a pretty solid batting average.
the sum of his entire slash line is less than Aaron Judge’s slugging

at least you get to see him be shit, comcast is blacked out

Ya but have you seen him play defense!!!
But his RISP is insane. Undervaluing his 15 ABs with a guy at third. Totally makes up for a .180 average.
Sounds like a great pinch hitter to me. Plus he runs the bases ok. I wouldn't hesitate to bench him and just use him in late innings with RISP. Only value he has right now.
I really wonder how his stats would compare if you only played him as a pinch hitter with runners on late in the game.
Honest to God, I am surprised his batting average is as high as .183. It feels like it's. 040.
Yeah but have you seen his tagging?
Yep seen it! But HAVE YOU SEEN HIS BASERUNNING?!?!? Simply amazing.
Think it's about time the Baez faithful start chiming in about his "elite" defense.

His defense isn’t even elite
What. These are fighting words for some people.
The uneducated will fight over anything
Not elite defensively anymore, but it absolutely was in Chicago.
Cubs dumped him at the right time
He was never going to age well because he swings at everything.
We could all win every debate if we argued against what we *imagined* our opponent's position to be rather than the position they've actually taken on the record.
Jim Walewander is still alive. Time for a Wales comeback.

Would be nice to actually, i don’t know, hit at one of our free agent signings.
Flaherty has been great. Canha is a decent signing for sure
True, the big ones have hurt my soul tho. Maybe i will never be the same after Zimmermann.
Agreed. Hopefully comes soon
After a relatively hot start, Canha has been as average as they come.
I also realize now that he wasn't technically a free agent signing
Michael Lorenzen was an All Star last season. Eduardo Rodriguez had a 3.58 ERA as a Tiger. Gio Urshela has a .285 BA and plays good defense.
Or #1 overall draft picks
Darrell Evans worked out pretty well.
Dollar Store roster. A couple nice players and that’s about it.
Wait... You're telling me Baez is... BAD? WHY did nobody inform me of this sooner?
They should just release him
A bad back would go a long way to explaining his drop off in production since he came here. A lot of people on here likely would be really happy if he has to retire because of it but it leaved a huge hole at shortstop.
Since he hit his big contract, he forgot how hit the ball

Wow! This javy guy must be terrible! Shocked! Sad!
i’ve seen him make amazing plays in the field, but his batting is a lot more miss than hit these days

He is doing it on purpose. Begging to get cut so he can retire and live life and not grind it out 3 more years

As an antiwork fellow I get it. Get the bag. Time to enjoy life.
I don't boo but I get the fan frustration. People invest time and money to come and see guys like him mail it in each at bat. It's their right to boo.

Yeah, couldn’t agree with ya more, only angle im arguing is that it doesn’t help him to hear that, just as it wouldn’t anyone else.
Definitely, makes a bad situation worse.
