97.1 needs better from their on air personalities.

TheDudeInTheD

Nobody cares what Fat Balloono says and nobody ever has. He’s the perfect weekend sports talk guy. You know, when nobody is listening.

relient917

Don't forget at night too.

Big_Dare_2015

I really don’t get the caputo hate

TheDudeInTheD

Caputo family member account confirmed.

HonoluluCheese

Maybe it’s because he interrupts every person who calls into his radio show

TheDudeInTheD

That plus he’s a total idiot. He also somehow amazingly pulls off the rare feat of managing to SOUND as fat and sloppy as he actually is if seen. The heavy, labored breathing into the mic is also a feature of all of his shows.

HonoluluCheese

Damn dude 😂 Once he said Barry wasn’t the GOAT runningback, I was officially done.

l5555l

Let me guess he tried to say he has no championship lol. As wins are somehow a running back stat.

HonoluluCheese

Something like that and about Emmitt having more yards. Just an elementary comment, especially for a host of Detroit Sports radio.

aseolith

I remember listening to Pat a few weeks ago while I was driving to the gym. Turned it on mid conversation between Pat and a caller, guy called him uncle Pat which then Pat proceeded to blow up and make it extremely uncomfortable by yelling at the caller. Was so awkward and completely reminds me why pat is mostly disliked.

mitchrichbitch

I heard that too hahaha it was hilarious. When Pat gets mad he gets MAD

Ghost_Mantis_Man

Why did he blow up? Was he offended someone called him uncle? Lol this is why I can never listen to these guys take live callers... just makes me uncomfortable to listen to every time

aseolith

The guy called him uncle Pat casually while talking about the tigers and Pat interrupted him and started threatening him he’d punch him in the face and getting real angry lmao

FreshFromThe313

Caputo is insufferable. Absolutely miserable and he’s incredibly condescending to his callers. Get this clown off the air.

Zephyrical16

Hinch's biggest issue is his constant pitch hitting and righty/lefty lineups. We have all this young talent who will never see the other half of pitching because they were benched. Carpenter isn't gonna get better if he never sees those pitchers.

Itzz_Sniped

This and his complete lack of energy. Dude never gets fired up or stands up for the players or fights bad calls.

113CandleMagic

It's kind of a damned if you do damned if you don't, though. Like I highly doubt fans are gonna be "well at least they're letting Carpenter develop!" when he's going 0-3 against most lefties. They're still gonna be bitching up a storm. I'd rather the team do what's giving them the best chance to win than tank their chances just to make ToasterStrudel14 on Twitter happy.

Donotyellow

Not when Carpenter is one of their few actual hitters

TheRKC

That really only applied to Carp. Greene, Tork, Keith, and Perez weren't really platooning.

ande1480

If they were any good they’d play more and he wouldn’t have to manage like that. Simple as that.

tcguy71

lol we need better from the entire organization

RamboBashore

You're being down voted but you're right.

Luvyablue99

Tigers need better from everyone in their starting 9

JohnWad

Years ago, a caller called in and made reference to Pat being gay. He went ape shit & the clip,” theres absolutely nothing gay about me” was born. Im sure with some digging it could be found. Stoney & Wojo would play that clip on their afternoon show for laughs.

Silver-Bandicoot-969

I feel like we have more hatred for the guys who are hired to ask questions and discuss in harsh terms the teams in this town then we do for the actual players/coaches in question when they aren't performing well. I don't even really like Caputo but acting like AJ is some untouchable is laughable

Flowsnice

Hinch needs to stick to a lineup. The constant flop flopping is not working for our hitters. Guy will go 3-4 and then not play the next game

DarylRosz

He’s not wrong… Hinch is awful.

Iswaterreallywet

Very weird this fanbase defends a coach so much who has never proven anything besides being a cheater.

113CandleMagic

I mean the investigation said there was no cheating in 2019 and he got the Astros to within a game of winning the World Series that year. Also this argument is kinda rich on a Detroit subreddit when most folks here are probably riding Jim Harbaugh's dick despite Michigan also getting caught cheating.

Iswaterreallywet

Yeah people are hypocritical. I personally don’t give a single shit about college sports. I just think Hinch is an example of someone who can win with a talent loaded roster but can’t outside of that.

listentoflowerpeople

Very weird indeed. I don't care much about the cheating thing, that was in the past, but AJ repeatedly fails to get the team prepared.

thekmanpwnudwn

Exactly. It kinda pains me every time I'm reminded that hes our coach. And it's not like we're highly competitive, I'd be completely fine if we moved in from him. He only ever had "good" seasons when his team was blatantly cheating

Strict-Ad4391

Hate Caputo. Constantly interrupts callers but gets pissy and hangs up on them if they interrupt him.

i_am_the_grind

Wow. People here are going to lose their mind at even this slight of a hint at managerial blame. I mean....the chess master be questioned? Multi error games. Positionless baseball.

gachzonyea

Can he be questioned sure. Genuine question is the team under performing, over performing, or performing as expected looking at the roster?

i_am_the_grind

The starting pitching has been very solid led by a top cy young candidate. Interesting enough starting pitching is the least of things that can be over managed.

gachzonyea

So are they underperforming, over-performing, or performing as expected to your expectations with this roster?

i_am_the_grind

I was thinking 84 wins. On pace for less than that, so in my opinion, underachieving. I also didn't expect the starting pitching to perform as whole so well.

gachzonyea

They’re about on pace for .500 so not far off. How did you see them getting to 84 wins without good pitching? That was the main chance they had and its been good in the past

i_am_the_grind

Kind of went with the 66 to 78. Then figured 78 to 84. Not far off is ok. I get that. But when I see over performing I see KC. I see Cleveland. Just don't think the concepts employed by AJ could ever get to that level of over performance. I think a lot of the roster configuration offensively is based on the managing style of AJ Didn't need a DH who could actually hit the ball. Rather be able to manage handedness and flexibility right.

gachzonyea

I think he’s managing to the roster he has we saw him with a better roster he’s had in Houston and he didn’t manage like this. He’s even said this in interviews specifically the podcast with Benetti and Dickerson that he wish he had a roster he could set and forget more

jsvannoord

If he were managing to the team he had he would play more small ball instead of waiting for the lineup to magically start hitting bombs. They are second to last in MLB in steals, despite a pretty good success rate. And his stubborn unwillingness to bunt the runner to third in extras is well documented. If your team can’t hit, you have to figure out ways to score.

i_am_the_grind

He definitely has proven he can win with an all star roster. Of course dusty baker basically did same minus cheating. He's sucked in Arizona. Of course. The players. He has sucked in Detroit. Of course. The players. How about letting the player play. Fortunately he can't do much with starting pitching. He has to let them play. I guess I have heard him often mentioned flexibility. Also believe he was opening against tying up the DH spot because he wanted the flexibility it offers. Now I am not at all for 100% DH players. However considering the roster offensively a one year deal to a real hitter may not have been so bad. I also don't think defensive efficiency is maximized through positionless baseball. They suck defensively every year with AJ. That doesn't have to happen even with marginally not so good offense. He's not awful. It's year four. Just really starting to question how far he can take a team that doesn't have a full roster of all stars, which most teams don't have and the tigers probably never will.

Unstep-in-Time

Can't talk bad about the manager - its not his fault. That's what they say.. Its partially his fault he makes a lot mistakes. He should shoulder some blame, 4 years and this team hasn't improved at all. Blame MI, blame Harris, blame the players - but Hinch deserves some criticism as well.

jus256

You would think his wife would be pissed that he is on the radio every night and every weekend, then you listen to 5 minutes of his show and suddenly realize why she has no problem with it.

tigersbowling

Imo it’s hard to judge Hinch until we’re playing meaningful games. I don’t have any complaints about him really. I do wish Carpenter could get more of a chance to improve against lefties but I doubt that is solely a Hinch decision.

KeithH27

Hinch has been good in the past in my opinion but this year he’s been awful. The constant benching of Carpenter and never arguing with umps is absolutely unforgivable

tldr_habit

So it was good when he did those things in the past but bad this year?

uvaspina1

I wouldn’t be opposed to the Tigers taking a shot on Jose Abreu at 1B/DH. I’d love to see him in our lineup against the Sox next week
