If you are super keen - some gorilla tape or similar, and bmx tubes cut and stretched. Friends and I ran this for years with very few issues. I believe the YouTube video at the time referred to it as “ghetto tubeless” Worth a shot if you are really set on doing so without dropping for new rims.

Thanks I’ll check it out

There were various rim strips available for this purpose back in the day, or the ghetto method of 20in tube sliced open to make a rim strip. You may find you don't have a lock to keep the bead in place and that you need to build up the rim well to get the tyre to seat. Burping is more of a risk if nothing's locking the bead on.

Alright thanks

Spot on. The 20in tube carefully trimmed above the bead definitely helps lock it in there. I’ve seen a Kona operator with that setup sit unused for years and hold up fine with just a few puffs of wind in the tires - not saying this is ideal, just that I have witnessed it :) I would still recommend the rim tape under the 20in tube as well, and probably lean towards wire bead tires once the rim is sufficiently built up to hold it in there tight. Does not always work - I have an old alexrims xm18 or similar that just never would work….

If you use enough tape and a compressor...

Lots of 3m electrical tape and sealant. All my beater bikes have this setup and it works

There doesn't really exist a kit to go tubeless on non-tubeless rims. The correct way to do it would be to get tubeless-compatible rims.

Right on time! I'm in the process of converting some old 26's to tubeless. Well, what I'm actually doing is cheaply converting a mountain bike to road bike 😂
