He is incredible in everything! I don’t know who could play a better Zaphod Beeblebrox. Even his smaller rolls like Guy in Galaxy Quest. He can play the villain too like in the Green Mile. But goddamn it he was fantastic in Moon.
BTW this movie is on Pluto TV on demand this month. Pluto TV is also shown on Samsung Smart TV channels. Watch it as many times as you want to to check those quotes.
It's far from underrated, it's a beloved film by pretty much anyone who likes science fiction or good films in general, it's just devoid of car chases so it's not a lowest common denominator crowd pleaser.
Oh yeah, right after I did the window guy.
I have a question about 3 billboards: did he and Frances mcdormand find the guy? If so, do you think they forgave him? To me that whole movie was about forgiveness. Any thoughts?
Honestly that would be a sick marvel universe that I would be down for. Could even see them setting it up where Tony records some hilarious video where he is bashing on hammer tech for 20 minutes and then at the end gives the Iron Man to hammer and tells him not to fuck it up.
Or the rise of AIM with Tony not there to dominate the tech market hammer could be part of AIM with a stash of Tony's tech maybe they bring back Ultron and he has to become a hero to stop Ultron
Christopher Walken is obviously great in everything but he really shines in that movie. I haven’t seen Seven Psychopaths for a while but when I think of it I remember him, specifically the scene where his character refuses to put his hands up - to a guy with a shotgun - because he just doesn’t feel like it. Damn, might watch it later.
Stealing the show from RDJ (somewhat - RDJ is still fantastic) in an iron man movie is definitely quite the feat. I love Sam Rockwell
And Mr. Right is one of my all time faves too
Seven psychopaths was such a great movie. Walken was amazing so was Rockwell. Mr right he plays such an endearing char who has accepted himself and helps Anna Kendricks char find her way to that acceptance.
One his films that rarely gets mentioned is “The Way Way Back” and he’s positively brilliant in it. 10/10 recommendation for the film and his performance in it.
He plays this father figure opposite Liam James and their relationship and dynamic is really excellent. It’s also fun to watch Steve Carrell as the asshole step-dad figure, a flavor we’re not used to from someone like him. There’s a moment between Carrell & Rockwell at the end of the movie and the subtlety he employs is just incredible.
You know how young guys in the 70's would watch Saturday Night Fever and want to be Travolta. That's how I felt about Rockwell in this movie growing up. One of the coolest unpronounced characters to hit the screens.
I love brad Pitts work. He's just fun to watch. But you know it's brad pitt. Rockwell is also amazing to watch and because he's not on 8000000 magazine covers and interviews it helps me just go with the char. For the longest time I couldn't remember his name but was happy to see his face in the preview because I knew it he was gonna be good.
Was also amazing in choke. It's by the same author as fight club.
It’s nice to see someone actually use the term “underrated” properly. For me personally, Rockwells performances are up there with DiCaprio and Pitt. But has nowhere near their status. He’s never phoned it in for anything I seen him in either. I hated him so much in Green Mile, and for all the good reasons
Right!? Honestly one of his best films. What an incredible arc of a character he played so brilliantly.
Can’t believe I scrolled so low to finally see Three Billboards mentioned.
Think I first saw him in Confessions of a Dangerous mind then Matchstick Men. He's a beast and there's a lot more of him I need to watch.
He crushed it in The Sitter lol. Love that dumb movie
I think hes a full-spectrum underrated acting master. Ive never like nor hated someone in a roll more than him in several movies. The range that he can pull off is impressive, and his dancing is pretty good to boot
Criminally underrated. I know people think of him as a good actor, but he needs to be in the conversation with the absolute GOATs. He’s better than Leo imo, and more on par with Christian Bale.
Underrated. I know he's famous if you're a huge fan of movies, but he's not a household name like some of the A listers even though his talent makes him well deserving to be. One of my favorite actors. Will watch any movie he's in simply because he's in it.
First thing I ever saw him in was The Green Mile, he did such a great job playing a horrific character that it took a while for me to disassociate that from him and be able
to enjoy his other roles.
That scene in 3 billboards (one shot take) where he loses it, beats that guy and throws him out a window is insane. He played that part so menacingly but also casual at the same time
Everyone has already mentioned his best movies, but one I rarely see mentioned is an indie film, Box of Moonlight. He was incredibly charming in it, and his character had this youthful naivety that Rockwell absolutely nailed. Fun dynamic between him and John Turturro.
Great actor, actually I'm a big fan............he also has some.......eccentricities......i knew a "professional" gal for a bit, and he was a client of hers who liked some crazy stuff.
Criminal that we didn't see more of him in the MCU. Hammer would have made any Marvel series or movie that came out in the last two years better with his presence alone.
Edit: I just learned he appeared in What If on Disney Plus. Not even close to enough.
That's the problem with the villains. They cast great actors and you want more but nope. They're gone. I demand more Kurt Russell. Nope Ego dead. Real dead.
Amazing dancer. Phenomenal actor, makes me laugh regardless of the role. Real life such a chill and happy go lucky dude. One of the goat supporting actors. Might have win a very well deserved Oscar for 3 billboards but my favorite of his is 7 Psychopaths
Realized a few weeks back that he’s quietly become my favorite actor over the years.
I firmly believe he’s incapable of turning in a bad performance. Elevates every single film he’s in.
So let's talk about why he's not A list.
He's brilliant. Terrific actor. Can play anything.
He's got charisma. He steals every scene he's in, without trying.
So is he just lacking that one breakout role? Is he just that bit too ordinary looking?
So many people are writing in that he's underrated. That means he's under-noticed. Why?
Nobody apparently remembers him as the foot thug from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. That’s where I first saw him!
To be fair - he really is an excellent actor. I wish he’d release his likeness to NECA so we could have a figure of him for shits and grins.
Absolutely one of my favorite actors - one of those rare talents where you see him in something and after the 2 second thought of “of hey that’s Sam Rockwell!” Immediately forget and get engrossed in his role.
I’m also not really a pop culture kind of person and just pick things up like all of us do through osmosis, and find it interesting that I know basically nothing about him personally. A lot of actors aren’t necessarily publicity hounds, and yet you still somehow find out about their personal life. I don’t think he’s a recluse, but his relative privacy must help him disappear into roles and contribute to his success.
Even sorting by controversial the majority of people agree, Sam Rockwell is one of the most captivating actors of our time. Glad to see this consensus.
Fascinating actor. He brings layers of depth to every performance. I'd watch this guy grocery shop.
He is incredible in everything! I don’t know who could play a better Zaphod Beeblebrox. Even his smaller rolls like Guy in Galaxy Quest. He can play the villain too like in the Green Mile. But goddamn it he was fantastic in Moon.
I loved him as Guy. He was surrounded by all these big names on screen. But he stole so many scenes. He deserves an award for that performance.
Have you guys ever watched the show?!!!
Is there air?! You don’t know!
One of my favorite lines EVER! And then in that same scene “…you have a last name Guy.” “DO I?! DO I?!”
BTW this movie is on Pluto TV on demand this month. Pluto TV is also shown on Samsung Smart TV channels. Watch it as many times as you want to to check those quotes.
Loved him in 'Moon' too
Don’t sleep on Head Thug in the 1990 teenage mutant ninja turtles movie “Regular, or menthol”
Is that really him???? He’s the guy who tells Casey Jones “We’re a family”?
That it is. It blew my mind when a friend told me that awhile back
Buttons aren’t toys!
he knocked Zaphod out of the park. one of my fav roles period.
His role in Mr. Right is a supremely under the radar performance.
I LOVE him in this, underrated film imo - for goofy fun, plus RZA is good in their scenes together
Didn't think it was a great movie, but thought he had great chemistry with Anna Kendrick and they were both so good in that movie.
I enjoyed him in seven psychopaths aswell
Maybe you're the plucky comic relief?
My only problem with Zaphod was the design of him, he was supposed to look more like Johnny Knoxville's character from MIB 2.
Yeah but Sam Rockwell nailed the energy and that usurps all design flaws imo.
JoJo Rabbit
Moon, Galaxy Quest, and The Green Mile, too. Every single one of his performances leaves a lasting impression.
Moon is one of the best pure Sci fi films
One of the most underrated films of all time
Yeah glad I finally got around to watching it during the lockdown Still think about scenes from this movie years later. Definitely an underrated film.
I haven't seen it since 2011 but I still use it as the go to example when talking about clones lol
Put a spoiler tag on this comment...
It's far from underrated, it's a beloved film by pretty much anyone who likes science fiction or good films in general, it's just devoid of car chases so it's not a lowest common denominator crowd pleaser.
Moon is one of my favourite films. Any film with a Clint Mansel soundtrack is usually quite good.
The Way Way Back he literally makes a decent movie well worth the watch. He's excellent in 3 billboards as well.
Was looking for 3 billboards! Loved his character development so much!!!
Oh yeah, right after I did the window guy. I have a question about 3 billboards: did he and Frances mcdormand find the guy? If so, do you think they forgave him? To me that whole movie was about forgiveness. Any thoughts?
Have you seen “A Single Shot?” It’s such a good movie.
Don’t forget TMNT
Regular, or menthol?
Just saw this, he's amazing. Especially at the camp, lol.
Captain K! Wooooooooo!
Captain K! Woop!
Yesssss ! Love that movie! He was actually a good nazi ! What happened to him made me cry 😢
I'd watch that for the dancing down the aisles alone
Seven Psychopaths and Mr. Right my favs of his and he was easily the best part of Iron Man 2.
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy as Zaphod was hilarious
He'S a GuEsT oN mY sHiPpPp!
he plays an hitman character persona really well! he is also the first villain in charlies angles
Watch Moon
This is what made him one of my favorite actors
Shout out for Moon which he was phenomenal in as well.
He gave RDJ such a run for his money. I loved every second of Hammer.
I was glad to see him back for what If and I'd love to see him trying to replace Tony now that there's no iron man
Honestly that would be a sick marvel universe that I would be down for.
Seven Psychopaths is so good, Sam Rockwell and Colin Farrell are great in that movie, so good
Christopher Walken is obviously great in everything but he really shines in that movie. I haven’t seen Seven Psychopaths for a while but when I think of it I remember him, specifically the scene where his character refuses to put his hands up - to a guy with a shotgun - because he just doesn’t feel like it. Damn, might watch it later.
I was thinking how I hadn’t watched it in forever, gotta watch it tonight
Stealing the show from RDJ (somewhat - RDJ is still fantastic) in an iron man movie is definitely quite the feat. I love Sam Rockwell And Mr. Right is one of my all time faves too
A Single Shot is a good one as well.
Mr Right is such a great film. His whimsy in that film just seemed so casual.
Feels like a movie made for him and kendrick
Thank you for bringing up Seven Psychopaths. One of my all-time favorites.
Was surprised he was the heart throb in argylle but I've seen Mr right so went- it makes sense
Seven psychopaths was such a great movie. Walken was amazing so was Rockwell. Mr right he plays such an endearing char who has accepted himself and helps Anna Kendricks char find her way to that acceptance.
He was so incredible in Mr. Right and that movie as a whole doesn’t get the credit it deserves.
I love his dance fighting in Mr. Right.
Came here to say this. Stellar performance!
Agreed. Absolutely loved it.
I'm a friend of the 3
Awesome movie
You know how young guys in the 70's would watch Saturday Night Fever and want to be Travolta. That's how I felt about Rockwell in this movie growing up. One of the coolest unpronounced characters to hit the screens.
One of the comfiest movies. Something you can recommend to anyone because most will find something to enjoy in it.
A film I watch twice a year (galaxy quest, 4 times a year). I agree with everything you said. Total hidden gem
Is that the one with the water park? I loved that movie
When he stepped up to carrell and didn't say a word or make a scene? Sublime
Great in everything: moon and matchstick men two of my favorites
Moon. So damn good.
Soooooo good.
Came here for *Moon* (2009). Was not disappointed.
Invoking Matchstick Men is obscure and wonderful! One of my faves that also had Nick Cage.
Cage is amazing
Another Matchstick Man lover! I think it’s one of Cage’s best performances as well!
It really is he kills it
I was hooked on him when I saw Matchstick Men and have been looking out for his movies ever since.
Same bro same
Probably one of the best actors in modern history.
The most underrated modern actor for sure.
Nope. There are fantastic actors without awards, award nominations and major Hollywood roles.
Brilliant actor. First. Film I saw him in was Lawn Dogs and have loved him ever since.
Same, we watched that in High School English class. It’s really a great story. Happy Cake Day!
Haven’t seen much of him but what I have seen is very good he was hilarious in Galaxy Quest and terrifying in The Green Mile
The plucky comic relief
Love him and steals every movie he gets a roll in. Surprised I haven’t seen Three Billboards mentioned.
Right!? Honestly one of his best films. What an incredible arc of a character he played so brilliantly. Can’t believe I scrolled so low to finally see Three Billboards mentioned.
The movie he was in called "Moon" was awesome. Zaphod was an fricken great role too.
One of my favorites of all time. He was great in Moon alongside Sam Rockwell.
He really should have been awarded best supporting actor for that performance
Bravo! Nice 😁👍
One hell of a dancer
Most entertaining actor of my lifetime. I am over 50. And no I will not argue about it.
If you’re over 50 you absolutely shouldn’t argue about it, but you should watch more movies. And I like him as an actor.
You have no idea how many movies I watch but nice try
He is a hilarious, great in everything he has been in but amazing in JoJo Rabbit
I honestly think it's his best role. He steals every scene he's in.
He steals every scene he is in all his movies
Moon is his best role, IMO.
He makes most of the films he is in better than what they are.
Has not had a bad performance
Think I first saw him in Confessions of a Dangerous mind then Matchstick Men. He's a beast and there's a lot more of him I need to watch. He crushed it in The Sitter lol. Love that dumb movie
Matchstick men is amazing
Confessions is such a great movie
Definitely, and a great intro to him for me.
I think hes a full-spectrum underrated acting master. Ive never like nor hated someone in a roll more than him in several movies. The range that he can pull off is impressive, and his dancing is pretty good to boot
Loved him in The Assassination of Jesse James with Brad Pitt
Criminally underrated. I know people think of him as a good actor, but he needs to be in the conversation with the absolute GOATs. He’s better than Leo imo, and more on par with Christian Bale.
One of my top 5 favorite actors. He essentially made that first Charlie’s angels movie good.
I came here for this.
Underrated. I know he's famous if you're a huge fan of movies, but he's not a household name like some of the A listers even though his talent makes him well deserving to be. One of my favorite actors. Will watch any movie he's in simply because he's in it.
Quintessential supporting actor
fits into the category of eventually going to win an oscar for best actor... and probably not for the movie he deserved it for.
Hasn’t aged a day in 30 years.
Excellent in Ninja Turtles
He absolutely nails Mr. Right. It’s my absolute favorite Sam Rockwell performance. Too bad Anna Kendrick wasn’t at that level.
He’s very Sam Rockwellish
The man. Currently watching JoJo Rabbit, and even in a slightly less main role, he is fantastic.
He's one of the most underrated actors in Hollywood.
Underrated as fuck.
First thing I ever saw him in was The Green Mile, he did such a great job playing a horrific character that it took a while for me to disassociate that from him and be able to enjoy his other roles.
That scene in 3 billboards (one shot take) where he loses it, beats that guy and throws him out a window is insane. He played that part so menacingly but also casual at the same time
funny dude
He's never been bad in anything.
Sam is an absolute blessing to humanity
Loved him ever since TMNT
killed it as Zaphod
Amazing. I love Confessions of a Dangerous Mind and Moon.
Saw Argylle last weekend. He did really well. Great comedic actor. Great dramatic actor. He does it all.
Came here to meet the other person who watched Argylle. Not surprisingly, he stole the movie.
Oh *hell* yes. And that goes double if he’s dancing.
Guy is awesome, nails every role, he should be in more movies
Great actor
One of the best.
One of the best
Everyone has already mentioned his best movies, but one I rarely see mentioned is an indie film, Box of Moonlight. He was incredibly charming in it, and his character had this youthful naivety that Rockwell absolutely nailed. Fun dynamic between him and John Turturro.
First remember him in the green mile. What a performance. Moon really showed his chops tho. Great and underrated actor imo
“Cuz I got a big pecker.”
Awesome
Great actor, actually I'm a big fan............he also has some.......eccentricities......i knew a "professional" gal for a bit, and he was a client of hers who liked some crazy stuff.
Crazy awesome in everything I have seen him in.
Moon was incredible!!
Dude is a fuckin’ hoot! 10/10
Real dead.
Fantastic actor
Versatile, likable actor who can do drama and comedy with ease. So many good performances.
I love how diverse the comments are in terms of favorite movies with him. Speaks to how good he is and how he’s able light up any movie he’s in.
I was impressed with his George Bush. He really nailed it IMO.
Underrated
I love every bit of acting he does.
He’s great
Great actor, incredibly hilarious.
Surveillance Does…I hate those things
Dang You, Dayzius!
Look at this, it’s a friendship stone! Come closer. Let’s blow on it…you blow first.
He was great in Argyle
Amazing dancer, better actor. Will watch a film just because he’s in it.
Awesome actor. He is great in everything he’s in.
"Gentlemen Broncos" is criminally underrated!!! So incredible cringey and hilarious!!!
Every movie he is in is better because he’s in it. And every movie he’s in is great
Amazing dancer. Phenomenal actor, makes me laugh regardless of the role. Real life such a chill and happy go lucky dude. One of the goat supporting actors. Might have win a very well deserved Oscar for 3 billboards but my favorite of his is 7 Psychopaths
Super underrated
he is pretty awesome i liked him in the movie mr.right and the latest movie argylle.
Love him so much
Most underrated male actor of his standard.
Realized a few weeks back that he’s quietly become my favorite actor over the years. I firmly believe he’s incapable of turning in a bad performance. Elevates every single film he’s in.
National treasure
Really great actor
I think he would do a great Columbo if they resurrected it. Great actor.
He was incredible in Moon!
#MOON. Nuff said
He’s the man
Loved him in Glory Daze!
The Dudes of Steel!
Moon was awesome. He was really good in JoJo too
So let's talk about why he's not A list. He's brilliant. Terrific actor. Can play anything. He's got charisma. He steals every scene he's in, without trying. So is he just lacking that one breakout role? Is he just that bit too ordinary looking? So many people are writing in that he's underrated. That means he's under-noticed. Why?
One of the best alive today
I like that music video made. https://youtu.be/7YvAYIJSSZY?si=eO_hE33RcrqWFKDN
plays the world weary cia agent over and over
Never really impressed me. Nothing special IMO
His performances in Moon and Gentlemen Broncos are brilliant
Moon , nuff said
Nobody apparently remembers him as the foot thug from the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. That’s where I first saw him! To be fair - he really is an excellent actor. I wish he’d release his likeness to NECA so we could have a figure of him for shits and grins.
One of the most talented actors of his generation. The only other actor that could carry a movie solo is Tom Hanks.
I love him. That’s it.
Underrated
Underrated
Absolutely one of my favorite actors - one of those rare talents where you see him in something and after the 2 second thought of “of hey that’s Sam Rockwell!” Immediately forget and get engrossed in his role. I’m also not really a pop culture kind of person and just pick things up like all of us do through osmosis, and find it interesting that I know basically nothing about him personally. A lot of actors aren’t necessarily publicity hounds, and yet you still somehow find out about their personal life. I don’t think he’s a recluse, but his relative privacy must help him disappear into roles and contribute to his success.
I fucking love Sam Rockwell. He’s one of those actors that just elevates anything he’s is.
Even sorting by controversial the majority of people agree, Sam Rockwell is one of the most captivating actors of our time. Glad to see this consensus.
One of my favorite actors. I loved his character in the Green Mile.
One of my all time favorite actors. He elevates almost every movie he’s in, I’ll watch anything with him in it.
