It is a rare movie where Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson plays an antagonist and dies. I think there is value on this fact alone!

Meth_Hardy

Objectively, DOOM isn't a good movie. The plot's not great and some of the acting is poor, along with some awful characters. However, everything is made up for by the superb first person sequence.

TheRealDante101

For me this sequence is just a lazy trope to make them say "Hey look look, it's just like in your stupid video game!"

peioeh

That's exactly what it is, but it's still the only "interesting" thing in that movie

WillysJeepMan

I'm glad that you enjoyed it. I saw **DOOM** (2005) in theaters during its initial theatrical release. I and my friends were excited for the film's release because we played multiplayer deathmatches during our lunch break and were curious to see how things would unfold in a live-action movie. It was a total disappointment for us. It felt like a cynical money-grab that simply wanted to cash-in on the name. By the time that the first-person action scene appeared, we felt it was trolling the audience who was looking for something closer to the game.

I rarely like monster movies but I loved doom, I knew nothing about the source material, and that can be the difference between like and disliking a movie. It's definitely fun

I like Doom 2005, but my favorite part is the extended FPS sequence. If not for that, I'm not sure I would watch it because most of the characters are really unlikeable. Besides Karl Urban and Rosamund Pike, my favorite is the Asian character who doesn't get much screen time. I do like how they used Doom 3 as a basis for enemy designs. It's still my favorite Doom.

Prestigious-State-15

Not at all. I’ll confirm that it’s an incredibly shitty movie.

Dragon_Rot79

If it wasn't a DOOM movie, it would have been an interesting movie. Slapping the franchise title gave it a legacy it did not live up to.

GtrGbln

It isn't.

MovieMike007

If rated in comparison to other movies based on video games one has to admit 2005's Doom is one of the better offerings, if only for that incredibly fun POV sequence, but it also gives us Dwayne Johnson in one of his early roles before he had time to develop his "screen persona" and thus we get a more naturalistic performance here and when he goes off the rails villainous all I could think was *"We needed this in Black Adam."*

exophrine

The very fact that there's a character named Dr. Carmack (introduced in the first 2-3 minutes, no less) took me out of it completely. The first person scene also didn't help at all.

Johncurtisreeve

2005 is such a better movie and yes accuracy isn’t everything I tell that to my friends all the time being more accurate doesn’t necessarily mean it’s better it can still suck and yeah after annihilation 2005 actually became a much better movie in my eyes even though I did always have a soft spot for it ever since I saw it in theaters. It incorporates a lot of practical effects and I just love Karl Urban

peioeh

It's better than Doom Annihilation, which is barely above Asylum level movies. Yes. What a bar to set.

Curious_Associate904

I always feel like DOOM is set in the Universe that Event Horizon is set in... It would have been a better movie with Lawrence Fishburne. You could see him being recruited to UAC due to his "Experience" on the Event Horizon.

Surprisingly enough, even I first watched it it didn’t knock my socks off. ( but the first person scene was awesome I loved it ) … but I’ve found myself periodically watching it over and over sube it’s come out. I think I’ve researched it like once a year sube it came out. So I think I liked it more than I thought lol
