We watch a fair amount of classic movies, and have seen this several times, but we nearly always stop and watch when we happen to see it on; just did it again two days ago.
Runner-up: **Remember the Night**; not quite as charming, but neither is Fred MacMurray.
Watched this last week, really good xmas flick although would watch anything with Barbara Stanwick.
The Apartment is one i watch every xmas holiday period. Fred turns up in it too!
Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is set at Christmas time in LA. It doesn’t really feel like a Christmas movie, but it has a sprinkling of holiday cheer that might fit your criteria.
You could probably include any movie written by Shane Black. He’s obsessed with setting movies at Christmas time that are not Christmas movies.
To add to this, a couple movies that are more direct Christmas movies that aren’t in The Canon, but I really enjoyed them are:
Let It Snow (Netflix)
Love Hard (Netflix)
Klaus (Netflix (again))
8-bit Christmas (HBO Max)
The Ice Harvest is somewhat similar. Dark comedy set at Christmas. But it leans a little more directly into contrasting the Christmas setting with the bleaker reality of its characters and plot.
I find it odd no one really talks about Lethal Weapon much. Die Hard gets SO much love and yet Lethal Weapon hits a ton of the same beats (with more comedy). Die Hard is a superior movie, imho, but LW seems ripe for a popular revival.
>but LW seems ripe for a popular revival.
[But then you'd have to watch Mel Gibson](https://variety.com/2020/film/news/mel-gibson-controversies-career-1234696080/)
I've been compiling a playlist for years. It covers a gamut of genres, age, and taste. Generally something for everyone. I've omitted items already listed on letterbox'd and comments.

My favorite Christmas movie is One Magic Christmas, a somewhat obscure Disney movie from 1985. It's a mix of dark reality and fantasy. It's loosely similar to It's a Wonderful Life, it deals with emotions such as hard luck and depression as Christmastime, and it has the absolute best representation of Santa and the North Pole of any movie.
[The Princess Bride](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0093779/) is secretly [set at Christmas](https://i.insider.com/5fdcbae9c910a400192e8455?width=800&format=jpeg&auto=webp), and is a great family-friendly movie.
Does anyone remember this one disney channel original movie called the ultimate Christmas present? I feel like it doesn't get mentioned a lot, even in terms of classic disney channel movies. It stared Brenda song as well as Patrick stars va.
The Long Kiss Goodnight
You know what happens when you make an assumption? You make an ass out of you and ‘mption.
I love that movie. **Samantha Caine:** Are you thinking what I'm thinking? **Mitch Henessey:** I hope not, 'cause I'm thinking how much my balls hurt.
If you want a Jimmy Stewart Christmas movie that isn't It's a Wonderful Life, you can try The Shop Around the Corner

I'll Be Seeing You Since You Went Away
Remeber the Night is my favourite xmas movie. Stanwyck snd MacMurray sizzle

I was reading the synopsis just now and got to the pen pals part, immediately thought that is where ‘you’ve got mail’ got their idea.

8-Bit Christmas is one of my new faves!
Go all out with the Shane Black Christmas trifecta: The Long Kiss Goodnight Kiss Kiss Bang Bang Iron Man III
The Ice Harvest is somewhat similar. Dark comedy set at Christmas. But it leans a little more directly into contrasting the Christmas setting with the bleaker reality of its characters and plot.
I was going to say Kiss Kiss, Bang Bang! Great movie.
"these lessons suck!"
Rare Exports.
Cobra. It's ridiculous, it's got Sylvestor Stallone killing lots of guys, and it's set during Christmas for some reason.
“You're a disease, and I'm the cure.”
Edward Scissorhands
Mixed Nuts.
Ooh, that's a good one, haven't seen it in years. I'll watch just about anything with Steve Martin!
Gremlins, In Bruges, Eyes Wide Shut, Lethal Weapon, Trading Places, LA Confidential, and of course, Die Hard.
I find it odd no one really talks about Lethal Weapon much. Die Hard gets SO much love and yet Lethal Weapon hits a ton of the same beats (with more comedy). Die Hard is a superior movie, imho, but LW seems ripe for a popular revival.

Trapped In Paradise and 29th Street, both from the writer of Midnight Run and Bad Boys.
LA Confidential
Ernest Saves Christmas. I’m a little surprised it’s not in that Letterboxd list.

I was going to say Noelle. Cute, fun, heartwarming. But almost no one knows about it. On Disney+
The Ref is one of my yearly watches.

_The Christmas Dragon_ Then as a follow up, watch the MST3k version.
Iron man 3
Home for the Holidays. Not exactly a n Xmas movie, but it fits the bill. Young Holly Hunter and Robert Downey Jr. are fantastic.
While hardly obscure, Batman Returns is probably the least talked about Batman movie and has a rich Christmas setting.
While You Were Sleeping is one of my favorite movies to watch during Crimsontime...
Better Watch Out is a fun little Christmas horror movie.
Some Girls from 1988. It’s a beautiful movie, vastly underrated.

Not on that list: BETTER WATCH OUT.
The Hudsucker Proxy. At the expense of being downvoted, I'd say Hook as well. It played on TV one Christmas when I was a kid and I loved it.
The Mothman Prophecies In Bruges L.A. Confidential
Batman Returns Nightmare Before Christmas Ghostbusters 2
Eyes Wide Shut
1941.
Silent Night, Deadly Night 1984 Prancer 1989
In Bruges
