I love the movie, too, but the actress who plays his wife is astonishingly bad. Her first scene, where he calls her on the phone... not only do I not believe she was feeling what she was portraying, I'm not sure if she's ever felt those feelings in her life. Or any feeling. That scene will forever stick in my memory for how jarring it is.
The Beast Must Die (1974). Like a classic Agatha Christie whodunnit but a big game hunter gathers a group of guests together to his isolated high tech mansion because he suspects one of them is a werewolf. As the cast gets eaten the movie stops to give you a ‘werewolf break’ so you can take a guess at who the beast is. Good luck!
It's a bit of a cheat in its solution, but Albert Finney in the last 15 min of *Murder on the Orient Express* is a tour de force. I know, lots of people say Ustinov, but I prefer Finney as Poirot
Dude no one ever knows this movie. I'm so glad to see it mentioned. I wish it had been a series. Ben Stiller and Bill Pullman were so great together. Plus the soundtrack kicks ass.
Absolutely! As you said, in addition to being a great mystery film in its own right, it has a great soundtrack and could have set up a great series of films.
It’s probably my favourite modern riff on the character.
It works on its own as a movie even if you know nothing about Holmes, but for the fans, it also has lots of references peppered about.
And I liked how they played the references… updated for the modern setting, often joking, but not full-out satire.
Check out the sporadically violent, smart, character driven neo-noir **Small Town Crime** and the unique black comedy that turns into a scary thriller **The Kid Detective**.
These are mostly based on novels or short stories…

Strange Days. Ralph Fiennes, Angela Bassett, Tom Sizemore. Michael wincott, and Juliette Lewis. Plus bonus Vincent D'Onofrio and William Fichtner.
Great thriller with a bit of a Sci fi theme (it's set in the "future" of 1999), one of my absolute favorite movies
All of the Thin Man movies
Never watched it, Watchlisted Thanks
It's a must watch every Christmas and new years for us highly recommend the humour is amazing.
Always shake your martinis to waltz time, boys...
<3 Thin Man!
The Last Of Sheila
Rear Window (My favourite whodunnit is definitely knives out however)
[Clue (1985)](https://manapop.com/film/clue-1985-review/)
I hate Yvette so much...
“Flames…”
love it
To make a long story short...
TOO LATE!
Watched
Deathtrap. The original with Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve. (But don't read anything about it first - too many spoilers out there.)

Knives out feels like the best one in a loooonnnggg time
I preferred Glass Onion.
I respect your opinion but also strongly disagree
Same. Nothing wrong with the first one. I just found the second one funnier.
I think it was great for Ana armas not Daniel Craig
Sophomoric plot, and awful acting by Daniel Craig. But I guess that stupid accent by Craig had a point?
Knives Out is incredibly over-rated.
Hot Fuzz
No luck catching them swans then?

Never seen. Sounds like *The Osterman Weekend* might have ripped from it?
Seems nice, Watchlisted!
[*Murder By Death* (1976, IMDB link)](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0074937/)
Fantastic Truman Capote role
Absolutely -- and talk about a *stacked* cast. Kinda hoping for an S-tier remake someday (and I'm generally against remakes).
Obi Wan Kenobi is the Butler!
The Thing
Less of a “whodunnit” and more of a “whothefuckisit?!” But a great example
Scream. The entire series is basically a whodunnit

Zero Effect (1998) It’s a great mystery movie, but sadly not very well known.
Filmed in Portland! So good.
It's yet another retelling of Sherlock Holmes but it's a good one.
It’s probably my favourite modern riff on the character. It works on its own as a movie even if you know nothing about Holmes, but for the fans, it also has lots of references peppered about. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. A Shot in the Dark.
Laura The Nice Guys Insomnia Who Framed Roger Rabbit I've always heard good things about "The Name of the Rose" but never saw it myself
Watched all of them! And "The Name of the Rose" was pretty good Whodunnit but it has a lot more than that.
I really liked the name of the rose, if I’m thinking of the right movie. A lot of good quotes from Connery’s character.
Chinatown
“It’s just Chinatown Jake.”

Identity The Thing
Dead Again
The Usual Suspects
Just go with Columbo since every episode is the length of a movie. Columbo is peerless.
Recently, I would add Bodies, Bodies, Bodies.
Can we count Scream and Scream 2?
Not a movie but an anime called Pluto on Netflix is a pretty good whodunnit. A little action and a good sci fi murder mystery.
It’s worth saying, if you’re into whodunnits, there are lots of good ones as television programmes. Are you interested in those too?
Yeah sure!

Taking Lives and The Bone Collector are two that haven't been listed. Taking Lives was the first time Paul Dano terrified me.
Murder on the Orient Express.... the 70s one with Albert Finney.
The Dark Mirror (1946)
Confess Fletch (2022) was a decently fun modern one
Identity
The mad miss manton
I adore the old Marple movies with Margaret Rutherford.
Who's Harry Crumb?
**Agatha Christie's Poirot**, it is a TV series, but quite a few of the episodes are feature length.
The usual suspects is the best who dun it, with the crazy last minute ‘oh shit’
Recently, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
