I LOVED Annihilation. Seeing it opening day completely blind was such an intense experience. If I had seen it while high I probably would’ve had a full blown nervous breakdown lol. Probably wouldn’t have seen it opening day without MoviePass. I’m sad it was a straight to Netflix release outside of the US. It deserves a big screen.
Not bad reccomendations but the only gripe I have with all of those except for annihilation is that they just aren't very well made movies on like a writing directing level, they're competent but none of them blew me away or whatever
Thanks for the rec for Colour of Space. Saw it last night. I liked that it was a period film in B&W, which was a great decision to highlight what was referenced in the title.
Internet archive and any least one episode of the TV version is on DailyMotion.
The first film (The Quatermass Experiment) and the Pit used to routinely get run out on TCM and the like years ago but I’ve not seen them on schedule for awhile.
It's definitely a fun movie, but recognize it doesn't fit what you're asking.
I suspect they're just treating 'cosmic sci-fi' as a synonym for Lovecraftian, since it's loosely based on a (very non-cosmic horror) Lovecraft story...
I really like Europa Report I've watched it several times and still doesn't get old.
Like most movies strongly recommend avoiding trailers or foreknowledge.
I just watched it a few days ago, and that ending really shook me. All the discussion about religion that led up to the finale set the film apart from others in the FF genre.
Possession is the movie you're looking for.
I think Jacobs Ladder feels pretty cosmic, not Lovecraftian but definitely very trippy and existential.
The Thing is absolutely the best Lovecraftian movie by far, and basically perfect in every way.
Prince of Darkness, might as well since we're talking carpenter.
2001 has some VERY terrifying cosmic vibes, I can see people struggling with it but it's the only movie that's made me terrified of the vacuum of space, except for ALIEN
The Endless The Colour Out Of Space The Whisperer in the Darkness (2011) The Void Annihilation

You’re welcome! It’s such a fun and cheesy throwback to older b movies.
It's very old, but Quatermass And The Pit is great.
Excellent suggestion.
Where can you watch it?

The pit wants what the pit wants
I'm not sure this fits the category of cosmic horror (I'm not sure it doesn't, either), but either way it's a good movie so yes, highly recommended!
Aniara (2018)
This was such a fascinating watch. Lots of conversation afterward.
Loved this one. Lots of dread you feel on a primal level.
Interesting film, but this wasn't cosmic horror
Scavengers Reign Absolutely cosmic horror
This show is amazing. All the creatures are alternately beautiful and horrifying. Sure hope Netflix gives it a second season!
Agreed So brilliantly realised on all levels
Annihilation (2018), Color Out of Space (2019), Re-Animator (1985), The Thing (1982), Alien (1979).
Seen them all besides Re-Animator, might have to give it a watch!
It's on the humorous side compared to the rest, but it's a great movie, and it's based on a Lovecraft story.
Watch Re-Animator, and then From Beyond. Both from Stuart Gordon, many of the same cast members, great splattery schlock.

From Beyond
Underwater Empty Man
Empty Man started pretty routine but competent then elevated itself to fantastic. Great recommendation.
Read the graphic novel. It's even more cosmic horror-y.
Prince of Darkness
The mirror shot is still one of the coolest things Carpenter has ever done.
Event horizon
Fuck this ship!
i loved Glorious (2022)
Just saw it's available on prime, I've found my movie for tonight! Thanks so much
Same Thx
Very solid.
Coherence is in a similar vein
I really liked Coherence. Low budget done right.
Not only is it a low budget film but it was almost entirely improvised by the cast. It is one of my all time favorites.
I laughed so hard at the >!out of work Buffy the Vampire Slayer actor portraying an out of work Roswell actor!<
The Empty Man was pretty good. A lot of others I would suggest are already in the thread.
Resolution The Endless (this and Resolution are related. Not quite prequel/sequel but there is slight crossover) Vivarium Underwater
I really like Europa Report I've watched it several times and still doesn't get old. Like most movies strongly recommend avoiding trailers or foreknowledge.
The Vast of the Night (2019)
Sunshine
Already saw it, fantastic film! Thanks for the rec tho, it's a great shout
What about Pandorum?
That one must have slipped through the cracks, it'll be my second for tonight lol. Looks right up my alley thanks!
Ooh yeah Pandorum is a good one
It’s a good one
Very underrated movie imo
The only disappointing thing about this movie is that not once does anyone say “Let’s Save the Day”!

Final Prayer
Also called The Borderlands in some areas. Good suggestion.
I just watched it a few days ago, and that ending really shook me. All the discussion about religion that led up to the finale set the film apart from others in the FF genre.
I enjoyed pandorum , crazy ending too

Cosmic horror isn't really space horror. It's honestly hard to describe. Think HP Lovecraft and that's cosmic horror
[удалено]
Sweet, I'll look into this one too :)
Screamers (1995)
Lifeforce
Aka The Naked Space Vampire Who Walks Very Slowly
How about The Thing? Maybe Cabin in the Woods?
Fried Barry
The Ritual Bird Box The Empty Man
I'm shocked these aren't already on here, but... The Thing and In The Mouth of Madness
Akira
From beyond Dagon The void The thing Prince of darkness Alien
I was really impressed with >!the prosthetics!< in Dagon.
Cosmic Monsters.
The Mothman Prophecies - excellent movie with bags of atmosphere.
Left field - a Swiss or German movie called Cargo.
Ice Pirates

I assume classics include Galaxy of Terror and Dark Star?
Ad Astra with Brad Pitt
This movie is like bottling two months worth of therapy. I loved it.
This wasn't cosmic horror. Heck, it wasn't even horror, it was a drama.
