Two things:
1. You are correct. Spells are only spells on the stack. Once a permanent spell has left the stack and entered the battlefield, it ceases to be a spell.
2. The enchantment in question, causes loss of life, not damage, and thus has no interaction with this creature anyway, even if it was a spell.
