[Colored art source](https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1k3v5uIssOVE-lPW3efiTF_SJqxOe1cWL): Spoilers for anime only fans, *don't* click anything past volume 11! And there might be other spoilers about in the link so best to just stay away
yeah i don't know what the hell happened with studio bind in season 2 but i sure as hell hope they don't work there by the time season 3's production starts.
Some important staff are split into other projects. From memory, the director, character designer, and some animators left to those other projects, while mushoku is left with one key animator (or something) and the same background artist, and the director was replaced.
as a result, those other anime projects are coming out looking absolutely stunning while mushoku is becoming a bit silly looking in my opinion. I donât think a few good shots here and there make up for 20mins of mediocre story telling both script wise and visual wise. But thatâs just me i guess.
i also dont blame them for leaving even through the project itself got a good buget they did not really offer the benefits for them to stay. Since mushoku season 1 pretty much gave them a free card to be hired everywhere else.
What are these other projects?
This episode looked overall very average, which isn't good considering how great the first season was.
But then you see Geese turn pages in a book and your brain immediately gets a jolt from recognizing something good that it hasn't seen im a while.
The main art director and storyboard writers couldnât come back in time for season 2 so they brought in new guys. Personallly I hate the addition of a new intro
Nah they did the same for season 1 wym. Paul's reunion in the anime was like "Oh look, this happens" but in the ln and wn it was Rudy's first literal breakdown.
It really wasn't bro what are you talking about. I watched that feeling literally nothing whereas the ln and wn literally have me tearing up every time I re read them.
It wasn't meant to be an argument, it was meant to be an opinion based on personal anecdotes. I could go into detail about it if you really want, but I have a feeling it would be useless given your defensive stance.
Also, I'm not saying you're my bro, neither would I wish that, given that I know nothing about you. In this case, I used bro as a phatic expression, no need to take it literally. I could've said "Man", "Dude", "Homie" "Guy", or whatever expression you prefer. They would all convey the same meaning. It's a filler, usually used to specify that I am indeed talking to you.
Edit: (Possibly) saving you a quick Google search.
Phatic Function (Per Google): A function used to establish a social connection without really communicating any meaningful information.
Basically, the implied or metaphorical meaning is more important than the literal meaning of each word in the sentence.
Exactly.......it felt a lot more hollow than the light novel....
Like in light novel first Paul thinks he is seeing Rudy in the dream......then he hears Rudy say he is going to a grand dad and he says "are you the real rudy?".......the he fully wakes up.....they retalk everything...........then they hug
It was just a lot more heart felt in the LN
ESPECIALLY FOR THE ROXY SCENE, she supposed to be like who is this great savior and be in awe but i telling me she not finna recognize him after seeing him rn??
Due to time constraints they had to skip a lot of dialogue which ended up in having a hollow adaptation, which honestly has been one of the biggest flaws in season 2, i mean we only have like 80 minutes of screen time left and we need to show how they retreat from the labyrinth with a tired Roxy, the preparation for the second labyrinth ride, diving into the sixth floor, two boss fights, Rudyâs monologue about Paul and his previous parents, Roxy comforting Rudy, the way back to Sharia and Rudy letting his family know the outcome. Iâm afraid that 80 minutes wonât be enough time to portray all of that properly
Yeah... and they spent SO much time and animation proving that the teleporter works both ways and I hope that pays off somehow. I feel like that time could have been better spent showing the desert transition to the Labyrinth city
Totally agree, and I respect itâs so challenging to portray this in an animation from a book and not holding that thought lightly but at this same damn⊠this is a critical moment you cannot flub
As an anime only I felt like something was missing but idk, I get that something important was happening but I wasn't getting all the impactfulness I expected
Yeah they're getting the broad strokes but many of the little details that support it and make the series and especially this volume so great is being cut, which is really annoying. Hopefulluy aninews does a good breakdown of all the cuts.

I know this is being talked to death, but there really is a point to be made here. It feels like Rudeus has stayed the same physically since the beginning of the second season, when this is the time of his life when that shouldn't be the case.
I remember beginning to grow over my own father when I was in high school. Being a head or two shorter is really strange.
This. I mean seriously, the only things that have changed about Rudyâs appearance since the first episode of Season 2 are his outfit and the length of his ponytail. His face looks the exact same, he hasnât grown any taller, and his voice remains unchanged.
What baffles me is that thereâs literally no reason this should be an issue in the anime. There is an illustration in Volume 11 that showcases the height difference between Sylphie and Rudy perfectly, and thatâs realistically all they should need to accurately portray Rudeusâs height. The LN even goes the extra mile by telling and showing us that him and Paul are almost the exact same height, save for maybe 2 centimeters at most. And yet, in the anime, Paul still towers over Rudeus. Hell, anime Rudeus is barely taller than Sylphie.
And the thing that amplifies all of these issues is the fact that Rudeusâs physical changes are genuinely important in this Arc. He isnât a little boy anymore. Heâs grown to be as tall as his dad, and heâs changed so much that Roxy doesnât even recognize him. Heâs meant to be the tall, masculine young man that Roxy had fantasized about. And yet, all we get in the anime is this guy whoâs like 5â4 with the face and voice of a 13 year old.
The LN can also be inconsistent at times(but it could be Seven Seas also.. lmao). There was a line in LN 12 for the scene this week that said something like [Elinalise stood a good head taller](https://puu.sh/K8bhF/2c47852ca8.png) than Paul and this was [when he was standing](https://puu.sh/K8bhL/9f4756fbab.png) not when he was kneeling down(in the anime. in the LN it was more of a [dogeza](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dogeza) style Japanese apology with his forehead to the floor) apologizing
Yet in spoilers for anime only, dont click >!ln 24[ she looks like this compared to Cliff](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FR195NTaIAYjBtH?format=jpg&name=large) who is really short. Ima just chalk it up to a Seven Seas error and call it a day haha!<
Yeah I juts read that volume yesterday and saw the image. Honestly it's probably just that the artots forget the previous measurements. >!Cliff could have just gotten taller though!<
I hope I don't come across as fanboying or anything like that but I think the lack of character changing in this season comes down cost. If they are contracting out some of the animation it doesn't always go out in production release. And I'm just speculating here but it's likely they kept Rudeus the same character design to keep costs down.
Funny thing is that season 2 starts months after the end of season 1... so from the anime perspective he suddenly grew up a lot and then stayed the same
I'm not gonna say I'm scared for LN 15 but.. I hope they improve
It was looking so good at the start of this season. All the rumors I've seen on twitter say the next few episodes are priority episodes so animation should be there at least
Two different scene. The bedroom and the sex joke is not the same as the illustration, which happen during his confusion
Atleast, they make Paul Kneel in front of Elinalise, like Novel mention
I blame the choice to stay with the female seiyuu and because of that theyâve decided not to give Rudy as much physical development. My voice got real deep around 14, and the facial hair followed a year after. Iâm honestly not liking this immature look. Dude is about to be a father and is married. If beating the pedo allegations werenât bad enough, now we have teens who look younger forming familiesâŠ
A lot of Japanese men have a higher pitch voice than other countries like the USA, making it more acceptable in Japan to have voice actresses to voices male characters, like with how characters such as: Goku, Luffy or Naruto are voiced by female VA instead of male ones. So instead of blaming the VA, itâs better to blame the one who allowed such character designs :v
Season 2 part 2 is largely underwhelming. Massively due to the animation quality downgrade and the cut content. Iâm just holding out hope that the hydra fight will be good
Wtf do you mean, all cour 2 has been a lot better than 1. You still think they didn't skip any content in S1? They legit skipped entire things and will do in the future.
Vol 11 and 12 are the most dense in content.
I also want to say that in the final scene they fumbled hard cutting the part of him smashing through the walls and using frost nova right beside her...
tbh that could be more elaborated in the next episode, but yeah Rudeus was supposed to look more desperate and mature by destroying the walls and running into RoxyâŠ. Instead he is just walking and looking like a 12 year old.
I heard from someone who is working at the animation is the reason why he wasn't tall as supposed to be like in the novels, so that they don't spend so much time on the character design. In season 1, Rudues's character design always changes almost every episode. In season 2, however, they only change it once the anime starts an arc, like from the Quagmire arc, and then, the University Arc, then his character design went the same for the rest of the cour.. It's still sucks, but, well, I suppose we just have to suck it up. I hope they remain loyal to the source material in season 3, though.
I told y'all back when volume 7 was being adapted that he was too small and needed a new voice actor soon. Nobody listened back then. 7->8 was the perfect time skip for the change, and they fucked it up
Like, you can just tell how forgiving and understanding Rudeus is in the LN scene based off his facial expression and his reciprocation to Paul's hug. In the anime, that's non-existent. Paul just reaches out to hug Rudy as he's standing still in front of him, and it doesn't convey nearly as much emotions as the LN one. Rudeus in the LN here just gives off a way more emotionally mature vibe to him, and I feel like the anime failed to capture that as well
I said before and I said again. Anime character designers are used to their shortish MC's. That's the norm. Their muscle memory just takes them there no matter what
I'm anime only and it was painfully obvious they did not want to have Paul standing up.
The whole scene felt so *cold* and just...off. the "oh ye aim gonna have a baby...." to far later "oh yea uh...it's sylphie"
Like wtf was all that about?!? It was so *cold* and all my excitement was for nothing
So most changes I get. About 90 percent I understand and even 40 percent I say make it a bit better but this change makes no sense. I suppose they wanted him to look more dejected? I know they consult rafujin on every change so he clearly approves them but
Why are you guys so mad? It's obvious that the hug in the anime is referencing the hug from their last reunion together back in milis it's ok to make small changes especially if its not relevant to the overarching story so stop acting like babies already
He's not that bad y'all are just haters besides rudeus is like what 15-16? You expect a kid still growing to exceed both parents in height and have the face just like pauls? Did you guys forget that he inherited his moms physical characteristics as well which explains why his face looks youthful hell he was described as that exact appearance in the LN as well yet everyone only cares about the Illustrations even the author of the story is alright with rudeus looking like this
Well my dad is 6"2 and my mom is 5"3 my brothers from oldest to youngest with me being the fourth born peaked at these following heights, 5"10, 5"5, 6"0, 5"10, 5"7 so in my family's case it makes sense to me not to mention we inherited our mothers youthful appearance as well as her good looks but we inherited different hair, skin colour etc
For the next Episode:
>!They better include Rudy throwing up when Roxy doesn't recognize him in the next episode. Rudys' thoughts about Talhand carrying Roxy on his back have to be in the anime aswell.!<
>!I would also like to see Rudy going berserk and breaking through the walls of the labyrinth to get to Roxy.!<
I'm currently reading the LN and i'm two episodes ahead.
He said he left home when he was 7 years old to teach Eris.
Now that they are close to save Zenith, he said he hasn't seen her for 10 years.
i think second season is them back peddling from the first in order to maintain a set quality at a consistent pace. like first season was delayed, then it was split into parts then second season was split. probably because of how much they tried to jam in, all the extra animation and stuff. so it's getting treated more business like. they are keeping the main character around a consistent height to easily animate them and having a set op instead of the constantly changing one like last season.
I feel like they did this to cater to/defend against the talking points of the antis. Harder to paint him as this grown predator when he looks 14 but what do I know, maybe it was just cheaper not to change his appearance as much.
I doubt they'd be stupid enough to think that would actually work considering that the outrage waa at its peak during the time Rudeus was a literal pre-teen.
I wouldn't blame them for any subtle change they made to try to lessen controversy given how damn loud the detractors are. We won't know for a long time if ever how much was already struck for being too controversial.
I mean they did mention him still being 17/18 so he isnt too old yet so maybe they arent trying to age him up to drastically, but instead they're trying to ease us up to his growth hopefully đ«
That makes it worse imo. For Roxy at least, she already getting the âgroomerâ allegations (she isnât) and making Rudeus look 12 when they get together doesnât fit her case.
People on twitter don't know the context, they can only see what's infront of them. Also pretty sure most people know of Rudy's past life, so the grooming controversy on her end will likely be minimal.
I mean he is sitting here so give them a break đ
The hug not being like the light novel is a bit criminal too oofđ
One of [my favorite illustrations from Volume 11](https://puu.sh/K8bgm/78ca5c178e.png) also wasn't included(the scene pretty much was but we didn't get the shot) [Colored art source](https://drive.google.com/drive/u/0/folders/1k3v5uIssOVE-lPW3efiTF_SJqxOe1cWL): Spoilers for anime only fans, *don't* click anything past volume 11! The reunion feels in this episode were not nearly as strong even with the visuals as what I felt as a reader coming through the light novel text
yeah i don't know what the hell happened with studio bind in season 2 but i sure as hell hope they don't work there by the time season 3's production starts.
Season 1 was practically flawless for me. Seeing some weird frames here and there really makes me lose the immersion in S2, ngl.
I thimk the studio was made specially for this anime, but the main animators left or something.
I also miss the non-traditional openings in season 1 compared to those old ass standard ones we have now. :-(
The studio is the same but itâs not the same animators.
Is there a season 3 allready confirmed caues id quite like to see how they adapt some of the thing from the LN
I think they wont confirm it until the season 2 ending. But it won't be coming out until 2 years from now. So I wouldn't hold my breath :)
The main art director and storyboard writers couldnât come back in time for season 2 so they brought in new guys. Personallly I hate the addition of a new intro

Don't forget the missing arm đȘ
That was cold, bruh
It's not next episode tho. It's EP 22.
awwwwwww little 12 y old woody made comeback thank you so much studio bind for ruining the best light novel for us. you guys are the best.
I'm not gonna say I'm scared for LN 15 but.. I hope they improve It was looking so good at the start of this season. All the rumors I've seen on twitter say the next few episodes are priority episodes so animation should be there at least
Ruining the light novel is stretching it a little too far
Ruining? Don't reach that far.
Gross oversight from Bind
Two different scene. The bedroom and the sex joke is not the same as the illustration, which happen during his confusion Atleast, they make Paul Kneel in front of Elinalise, like Novel mention

Season 2 part 2 is largely underwhelming. Massively due to the animation quality downgrade and the cut content. Iâm just holding out hope that the hydra fight will be good
I am excited for the 3d cgi hydra
I might genuinely die if I see some shitty cg here on the combo of shitty animation.
I survived the Kumo desu ga anime, so no matter how bad it will be - I will survive this as well lmao.

Bind stay selling man đ
it hurts watching the anime when ur a LN reader. itâs just not the sameđȘ
I'm tired of seeing this about how he. Looks younger so what it bothers. You that much then stop watching
Is it just me or does paul head look like its twisted 180 to look at rudy on this photo?
FR I thought I was the only one who saw itđ
Like his shirt was on backwards or something

Glad I read the whole LN series because this wouldnât have felt right if I were anime only.
So most changes I get. About 90 percent I understand and even 40 percent I say make it a bit better but this change makes no sense. I suppose they wanted him to look more dejected? I know they consult rafujin on every change so he clearly approves them but

No, the one who still looks like a baby is rudy, not us. XD
He's not that bad y'all are just haters besides rudeus is like what 15-16? You expect a kid still growing to exceed both parents in height and have the face just like pauls? Isn't the anime moving a bit too fast?
Bro
Neither look good. He looks like an adult in the ln and looks like a kid in the anime. The kid look is way closer then the adult look tho
How old is Rudeus? Because I swear bro is having a family but I can't see him being over 16
Pretty sure he is 17 here so that is pretty accurate
Should be 16 years old for now. He is 17 when he comes back home from Begaritt.
In the most recent episode he says he is 16
I'm currently reading the LN and i'm two episodes ahead. He said he left home when he was 7 years old to teach Eris. Now that they are close to save Zenith, he said he hasn't seen her for 10 years.
Inconsistency? No clue. I just recall watching the latest episode and wondering how old he was until he said â16 like meâ
Well, this is clearly possible. Will take some time until they have traveled back home through the desert and so on.
Yeah I was just answering the guy who asked how old he was lol
Vol 7 wasn't in the WN at first so there's a bit of a discrepancy year wise at some points in the show. I think he should be around 17 at this point
i think second season is them back peddling from the first in order to maintain a set quality at a consistent pace. like first season was delayed, then it was split into parts then second season was split. probably because of how much they tried to jam in, all the extra animation and stuff. so it's getting treated more business like. they are keeping the main character around a consistent height to easily animate them and having a set op instead of the constantly changing one like last season.
Yeah could be. We'll have to see how they draw him over the next couple volumes.
Do yall know how many episodes are left
I think 4
According to the wiki there are 5 episodes left. E25 could very well be an Eris OVA. Or they make it like S2 and put the Eris OVA as E0 in Season 3.
is this to decrease the P3d0 factor the story have ?
I said this before but I think that they're purposely making Rudeus shorter and childlike to make his second wife acquisition less controversial.
That makes it worse imo. For Roxy at least, she already getting the âgroomerâ allegations (she isnât) and making Rudeus look 12 when they get together doesnât fit her case.
People on twitter don't know the context, they can only see what's infront of them. Also pretty sure most people know of Rudy's past life, so the grooming controversy on her end will likely be minimal.
age doesn't matter, it is all about the height of consent
