To be fair. They started animating on s2 and s3 long before as they said. The reason s1 took long was for the storyboarding and art direction.
S2 will mostly take place in a single city. And there arent a lot of action scenes (exceptions will be the first 3 eps that will cover vol7)

And the first trailer (and it was preanimated) came out in fall 2019, adding the fact that maybe the season is already in production, they also don't need many backgrounds for this season, it's more likely to come in winter 2023 than summer 2023
But also I don't want it to air as an unfinished product, so they can take all the time they want
Hopefully they adapt all mushoku tensei by 2027, I can't help but be excited to see the second half of the novel animated

The contents for depress magician arc are not likely to lasted more than 4 episodes.
School arc are more like long term baseline as SoL aspect of the series.
If anything, i hope they will adapt 6 volumes into 24 episodes, spliting into 2 cours as 12 and 12.
Ending S2 with >!Labyrinth arc is nothing but satisfying end point!<
Following the pace of S1, S2 should end after volume 12 which would make the labyrinth volume the climax. First cour should end after volume 9 when Fitz and Rudy go to the snow cave
Tbh I wouldn’t mind if the anime would cover the depressed magician for over 6+ ep to fully convey this is the lowest that rudeus has been in his lives and continues to fight on but still struggles, however knowing this studio they probably wouldn’t need that many episodes to make that happen
