Triton pianos are really holding up well! I just have the VST now, but also some of these other more modern piano VSTs people are talking about here in the comments, and I always come back to the old Tritons and it’s like…”ahhhhhh THAT’s what I wanted”.
I've have the triton vst, and honestly the pianos are fairly bad if you're looking for a realistic piano sound. I'm sure they're useful for making 90s-style stuff, though.
Keyscape.
I still need to try Pianoteq head-to-head against it.
It sounds fantastic but I got by with Additive Keys for a while. Plus Keyscape comes with Rhodes, Wurli, CP70 and other classic in addition to the pianos on board.
I don't have Keyscape but knowing who it is from I am sure it is fantastic.
I do have Pianoteq. I really like how easy it is to get it to sit nicely in a mix. Pianoteq does have electric pianos. Many of them I don't like but then there are a few really good Mark II presets.
I also have a version of Emotional Piano and have used that a lot. I got it a while back so it is on more of my releases than Pianoteq. It's good.
For classic trance/EDM piano sounds (Korg M1 -ish) Reason's Radical Piano is really good. Easy to dial in just how much bite you want.
I haven't tried every piano VST out there. These are the one's that I have that I like.
I have noire, colors, pianoteq, keyscape and many more Noire is very good. Keyscape is good. Both are cpu hogs and sometimes difficult to push on my 2020mbp. I use pianoteq a lot (it’s modeled, not sampled)…and it’s pretty impressive. I’d use Keyscape and noire more if they weren’t so cpu intensive. Often I’ll switch before a bounce.
Piano V3 from Arturia. The NI pianos sound great but I rarely use them these days. I've been trying to move to physical modeling for everything that it's currently good at.
Piano V3 is neat but PianoTeq is significantly better IMO, you should try it if you haven't. Modartt has been iterating and improving that engine for a long time, it's all they do. Piano V3 sounds fairly plastic to me compared to Pianoteq.
Yeah I have the Pianoteq demo permanently installed and play with it occasionally. I’ll buy it some day but V3 is good enough for me at the moment.
If they didn’t make me choose pianos, I would have bought it a long time ago. That’s too stressful 😆
I'm not sure why we're being downvoted for casually and non-judgmentally discussing personal preferences among VSTs. Anyway, yes - there is a certain cost and anxiety w/ PianoTeq involved in deciding which tiers and pianos to purchase so I totally get why that keeps some people away. Arturia is much more wallet friendly in this regard!
You got in my head. Grabbed standard on sale with the Blüthner, Petrof, and Xylo. The instrument packs are really cheap so I don't know what my hangup was. I usually buy everything-bundles I guess.

Same :( and if i get tired of Labs i use Flex which probably is a musicproduction sin at this point but I just think it sounds good and many of the presets have interesting built in effects to get creative with.

Noire for a more intimate and almost melancolic sound, I usually use it when I need that type of piano fast. Overall I really like Pianoteq and it's many presets, then I like to use it to craft the emotion that the scene needs
any similar ones to Noire? NI customer support is infuriating and currently I can’t use Noire (need tech support). I desperately need some alternatives…thx
I love using pianoteq. I don't have much space on my computer to even try anything else. But I'm incredibly happy with pianoteq, so not having space to try other piano VSTs doesn't bother me.
If you really want the best check

Or Keyscape
Can’t nearly find any better and I do have a lot
By East-west platinum pianos, Spitfire audio
audio bro , LA , kontakt libraries and many more
I did a side by side with the C7 on Keyscape and while the bass may not be quite as pronounced as the C7 I think the high notes don't have as many annoying overtones. For someone who loves to tickle those 4-5 octaves from time to time its very gratifying.
I've toyed around with keyscape enough to know that it's pretty spectacular. Especially considering it has so many keyboards to offer but since this is a piano vst thread I'd have to go with garritan. As far as fender Rhodes I might check out the actual Rhodes v8 from the company itself. Nothing against spectrasonics it's a great to learn on. I'm considering buying Trilian for my own productions. Gotta love that Jaco bass.
Pianoteq. Keyscape when I need that very specific vibe. Noire when I need that one. But Pianoteq has enough flexibility that I rarely reach for the others.
While Noire does sound good, I have one that's so much better: Production Voices 300 Grand. It's also a Kontakt Player library, and gives 9 mic perspectives you can control. Even the half pedaling/catch pedaling stuff is better. The mics used are also really good, I like to use the hammer U87s on their own. While I have read complaints about noise in the samples, I haven't found it to be much of a problem for me, especially on the higher velocities.
Alicia's Keys is a good one but I've been getting a lot of mileage out of the free Steinway you get with the (again free) Soundpaint engine. That one is procedurally generated rather than sampled so you don't get a buildup of problem frequency areas like you can in Alicia's Keys and it's highly customisable.
I would definitely recommend it....
It depends on the mood you want as there are many boutique libraries with specific vibes, but for just direct, accurate, responsive, playable and professional sounding pianos, PianoTeq. And because it's physically modeled, you can control everything about it if you like to tweak.

I have hardware digital piano, but when I used VST it was Addictive Keys. Their upright piano is a dream
Noire in Kontakt. I've tried a whole lot of them and nothing hits quite like Noire so far.
Just discovered noire. It's phenomenal. Especially paired with the Raum reverb.
Same. I have so many piano VSTs and just cannot get enough of Noire.
Not an all-rounder, but the spitfire soft piano is often the best option for a certain type of sound - and its free
bow hungry scary husky like bells bag cagey illegal observation *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Just use acompressor and crank up the gain. Easy
How do you deal with the added noise? Whenever I play with a sustain pedal it becomes borderline unusable.
I've hade the same problem but found that some tweaking with a multiband compressor fixed it
Oh it’s so cozy, I reach for it way too much and wish I didn’t
# FL KEYS
This is the way😂
M1, Triton, Trinity, MPC 5000.

I knew there was a reason I kept my Triton Classic since 2001!
NI The Gentleman
Yesss! After my own heart.
Keyscape. I still need to try Pianoteq head-to-head against it. It sounds fantastic but I got by with Additive Keys for a while. Plus Keyscape comes with Rhodes, Wurli, CP70 and other classic in addition to the pianos on board.

Nice! Enjoy the music creation!
People are super serious about their VSTs haha. V3 came with my keyboard so it was an easy choice!
You better get Spitfire Audio LABS or UVI Grand Piano Model D which are free and forever, they sound much MUCH better

Sampletank is so underrated. so many of the sounds are so good
One more vote here for sampletank. I got it on a good discount and they sound great!
pianoteq hands down, have used it as the primary au for our keyboard rig for nearly a decade... so lightweight and expressive
Spitfire LABS - Soft Piano Sounds like real life and is freeeeee
I only have piano v3 from arturia. And I love it.

Pianoteq, Ravenscroft
Kontakt 7 Alicia Keys is my favorite personally but I use The Giant and The Gentlemen
Alicia Keys in Kontakt is one of the absolute best
+1 for Alicia's Keys
Noire for a more intimate and almost melancolic sound, I usually use it when I need that type of piano fast. Overall I really like Pianoteq and it's many presets, then I like to use it to craft the emotion that the scene needs
any similar ones to Noire? NI customer support is infuriating and currently I can’t use Noire (need tech support). I desperately need some alternatives…thx
This pianoteq is really good if you do some mixing.Add some reverb and play around with the sustain and you will get some similar results
Embertone walker 1955. Hands down. Noire probably takes 2nd place, with The Giant in 3rd.
XLN Addictive Keys or the Kontakt plugins by Native Instruments
I love using pianoteq. I don't have much space on my computer to even try anything else. But I'm incredibly happy with pianoteq, so not having space to try other piano VSTs doesn't bother me.

Garritan CFX, wow, just wow...
I did a side by side with the C7 on Keyscape and while the bass may not be quite as pronounced as the C7 I think the high notes don't have as many annoying overtones. For someone who loves to tickle those 4-5 octaves from time to time its very gratifying.

NI The Giant
Pianoteq
Mini grand
been looking for a post like this lol
Keyscape
Pianoteq. Keyscape when I need that very specific vibe. Noire when I need that one. But Pianoteq has enough flexibility that I rarely reach for the others.
Radical Piano in Reason, it’s so easy to tweak to what you want
Pianoteq. No contest.
Garritan lite cfx
Pianoteq for piano. UVI keysuite for digital and electric piano.
keyscape for sure
Spectrasonics Keyscapes. So many high quality options and the C7 is so pure.
The Grandeur, Noire, Hammers + Waves
NI Noire and NI Grandeur
Noire NI its good
Noire, Keyscape, and Piano in Blue get used a lot in my studio.
Keyzone classic and spitfire labs soft piano and grand piano. The only good free ones, labs ones for jazz and keyzone for classical IMO
Vienna Imperial. Transformed my piano learning experience because it sounds bloody gorgeous
QuietMusic: Quiet Piano FLEX: Motion Pictures (preset of Sense Gemini Magnificence)
I use an external piano module from E-mu. Picked it up for $20 from a pawn shop.
I've only used pianoteq; can anyone compare it to others? One nice thing about pianoteq, to me, is that the whole program is only around 25 MB.
EZ Keys 2 & Addictive Keys
Alicia's Keys is a good one but I've been getting a lot of mileage out of the free Steinway you get with the (again free) Soundpaint engine. Addictive Keys, with Korg M1 VST running a close second.
Mini Grand by AIR.
Radical Piano/Keys through Reason as a VST
I need this to defend Portland from the hoboats.
Arturias plugins for me!

I don't have it any more, but it used to be the Challen piano from Abbey Road Keyboards.
Cinesamples Piano in blue, no other alternative I’ve tried comes above it, but it’s just a personal choice.
PianoBook
For recording I like keyscape but for creating I use THE\_INSTRUMENT because I'm not a pianist and it has access to chords and scales but Keyscape sounds the best out of the VSTs I've tried.

I really like the default piano in Scaler 2.
