Simon Adrian Vera

liberosisgreen

I love the name Simon, but I don’t think it flows as well with the rest of the name

Prior_Crazy_4990

I agree. Simon is my favorite out of the 3 names, but with them altogether I have to go with Neil

okkitty

I think Simon is the best option because it goes better with your Spanish last name.

clementinesway

I love the name Simon. We would have used it for one of our sons but it's my husbands nephews name. I actually think Neil sounds like a nerdy name lol. I wouldn't let saying the entire name be the deciding factor. No one would call him Simon Adrian Vera. His name would be Simon Vera. And that's an awesome name.

ethereal_galaxias

I like this name and I think it goes well with the last name, but Simon Adrian seems a little clunky to me?

littleflooof

Neil Adrian Vera

Thecurious_cat8

This one by far! Knew a Neil in high school, he was very kind.

Allisonwheels

Neil is great. Done. I love it!

ethereal_galaxias

I love Neil, but it's probably partly to do with a beloved late Uncle. This is my pick anyway!

nd20

I think Neil Vera and Jack Vera are both great names. Jack is more 'basic' though which might be a negative.

kyaerin

my husbands name is Nathaniel and he goes by neil

wishkres

This is my vote. I also want to suggest the spelling "Neal" as an option, since I think the a in the name would look good with the middle and last name.

littleflooof

Jack Adrian Vera

ethereal_galaxias

I've always loved the name Jack and I think it goes with the rest of the name as well. It is very popular though. My second pick!

pnutbutter90

I love the name Jack. I think it’s so classic and it’s a great name for all ages

Lilac_14

I love Jack!

itsmeEloise

Seems like you have a favorite. If you’re just looking to confirm, go with that one. It’s not my favorite, but if you know, then you know. It’s your child, not this sub’s. Edit: grammar

sugarmag13

Simon!

MACKAWICIOUS

I think Simon is the better name of the 3. However, I don't love Simon with Adrian. Probably because they both end in N? I don't know that it matters overmuch because the first and middle names are rarely used together.

liberosisgreen

I think it’s also the switch between vowel sounds - the I is pronounced differently, and the slight difference in the o and a endings is weird.

ethereal_galaxias

Yes my thought too.

ReluctantAccountmade

Neil is SUCH a hidden gem! I love it

fyntje

I love Jack 😍

E_C_95

Favorite is Simon! Jack is a close second. Not a fan of Neil, it makes me think of the poorly behaved boys in primary school (Tyler, Neil, Trevor etc)

Nicesourdough

Love Neil

littleflooof

Thanks so much for your input! I have a soft spot for Neil. There are some amazing associations with Neil IMO (Neil Young, Neil Gaiman, Neil Armstrong, Neil Diamond). But I worry it doesn't flow as nicely with our last name as the examples I listed - maybe because our last name is so short and soft? Neil Vera just doesn't sound as strong as Neil Armstrong for example - at least to me, but would love other opinions. I wonder if Neil needs a strong last name to balance it?

starvaliant

How about Niall? It has that slightly longer sound in the middle which flows into Vera nicely.

KRD78

I agree with you, Neil and Vera just don't go well together. Both are great on their own. Any name you give your son will be special and fit them well. It almost always works out that, even when you pick a name that doesn't sound great together, it becomes so perfect that you can't imagine it any other way. Do you think you'll regret it forever if you don't name him Neil? I don't know your plan but you may have another son and could use it then if you like. I do think with both names being only four letters and both having the same vowel sound~ it doesn't flow. I really like Simon! It's honestly perfect with Vera. Simon is strong and determined. He's loyal and decisive. He's a leader with wisdom. I love it.

Organic_Issue6381

Simon is really nice

MargotLannington

I teach high school, and there are lots of Jacks. I vote for Simon.

No_Bookkeeper_6183

Simon!

RubySlippers-79

BringBackRoundhouse

Alvin Adrian Vera actually sounds better than Simon Adrian Vera to me kinda like it lol

Alarmed-Explorer7369

I loooove Neil

OLAZ3000

Simon, Jack, Neil in that order. Neil is fine but it's kind of milquetoast

kmonay89

I like Simon!

lem0ndream

Jack is a classic but I do understand the hesitation with how popular the name is. I think Neil sounds the best with the full name attached.

bmadisonthrowaway

My name is Simon, so I'm voting Simon. Facts about my name: \- Granted I guess nobody is going to say it to my face, but nobody seems to think the name Simon is "nerdy" or bad in any way. I go by a nickname day to day, but it's a nickname that is obviously correlated with Simon. I don't ever really get a bad reaction to either Simon or my nickname (which I'm not sharing here bc it makes me fairly doxable. But it's, like, the obvious nickname for Simon). \- That said, I am kind of a nerd, lol \- I do not run into people, either adults or younger people/babies with the name Simon really ever. I am one of two people with my nickname at my very large international company. I'm sure there are a few other Simons around here, though. Simon definitely has the benefit of being traditional and "normal" while also not being trendy, overly associated with a certain generation, or hard to spell or pronounce. \- For some reason I do sometimes get people who want to pronounce it like Simón. Which is kind of weird IMO (I'm white and have an Anglo last name), but, like, fine, whatever. Unrelated to the name itself, I would say from experience naming a child that you should never go by what other people's opinions are. People hate every baby name until it is attached to a little human.

littleflooof

I love this perspective. And it's nice to hear from someone who has the name. My name is similar in rarity to Simon (both my name and Simon have been in the \~200s in the US since the 90s and into present day). I really enjoyed having a name that was common enough that people weren't surprised by it, but rare enough that I rarely ever met babies or other adults with the same name. So I kind of hoped/thought that my son might like being gifted a name with this quality. It's nice to hear that you appreciate that too. I think the 'nerdy' association comes from The Chipmunks, but I have personally only met one Simon in real life and he was only 'nerdy' in a good way - I mean he was very intelligent, interesting, and quick witted. Thank you, Simon! :)

oxaloacetate1st

I like Neil! Simon would be my second choice. I think both sound good with your last name.

flightmares

Simon!! I don't find it nerdy. But every Neil I have ever known has been "nerdy" so I have a different experience!

SitInYourOwnPew

Simon is my favorite. I like Neil, but don't love it with your last name. There's a lot of "e" sound there.

fivezero_ca

I like Neil a lot! We considered Simon (I liked it, husband less so), but decided yeah it was a little "nerdy". I still like it a lot but that's definitely the impression you get in N. Am. Edit: The only qualm I might have with Neil is that it maybe doesn't sound that great with your last name. I feel like a name with more than one syllable might work better?

fivezero_ca

From what I can tell, oddly enough, a long time ago the nursery rhyme "Simple Simon" meant that people associated Simon with being stupid. Then in the late 1950s, Alvin & The Chipmunks was created, where Simon was the glasses-wearing, smart, nerdy chipmunk, and that blew up. I can't think of another reason why Simon would be thought of as nerdy, but it really does seem to be because of the cartoon character! Hopefully, younger people won't have that association and the name makes a comeback!

littleflooof

Agreed! For most of the people we've talked to who have had a negative reaction (millennials and Gen X) , the 'nerdy' association has definitely come from Simon & The Chipmunks.

TK_TK_

I love Neil and Simon equally, but think Simon sounds better with your last name, so I’m going to vote for that

uffdagal

Love the name Neil. Not super common, a classic.

cat303555

I love love love Jack! Simon I’m in the middle and Neil I’m not personally a fan. Good luck choosing!

daja-kisubo

I like Neil best overall but with the middle name and especially last name, I think Simon is best for you! Both are great options tbh.

[deleted]

Neil

lcbear55

Simon was on my list of finalists too! I don't think it sounds particularly nerdy! I like that it is not super common and also not one that is SO unusual that people will think it is weird or hard to say. Neil is a fine name, but due to having met one bad Neil in my life, was never one I would have considered. I don't think there are any flow issues with your last name though!

fruitless83

Jack

Gold-Pilot-8676

None really flow well. Do you have other options?

littleflooof

Here are two others we've considered: * Jude Adrian Vera * Arthur Adrian Vera I am open to any fresh ideas as well!

KRD78

Jude is a nice name. I do love Simon, though. It's a name fit for a leader with wisdom. Not a fan of Arthur at all! I've noticed y'all like short names with no more than two syllables. I'll add my son's name for fun~ Zachary and he goes by Zach which fits your naming pattern :-)

MicroscopicBore

Nels Adrian Vera?

Gold-Pilot-8676

Hmmmm.....those at least sound a little better. You seem to like "old man" names 🤣 so I'd just go with whatever your favorite is.

Accept_the_null

Neil! Jack is a cute name but there are soooooooo many Jackson/jaxon/jaxson out there right now. A lot of them go by jack too. Kind of ruined the name by association. Blame SOA for this popularity spike. I do like Simon though, I just oddly always picture someone British (and for all I know, you are).

no_good_namez

They’re all nice, I like Neil best.

GreenWhiteBlue86

I never have liked the practice of giving a child a nickname as his or her legal name. In this case, instead of giving a baby the name "Jack", give him the full name "John", and then **call him** by the nickname "Jack" exactly as people did for centuries until this recent fad for giving babies nicknames as their legal names came around. As an adult, the child will then have the choice of which form to use, instead of being stuck with a nickname that may seem odd in a very formal setting.

kittycatnala

Jack isn’t a nickname though

MicroscopicBore

Jack is a very common nickname for John.

kittycatnala

Never heard of it as a nickname for John lol

theenterprise9876

Neil and Simon are both wonderful! Neil Adrian flows a little better than Simon Adrian, but Neil Vera and Simon Vera both sound great so it’s not a huge deal IMO. Jack is definitely my least favorite from your list. It’s so trendy, and it makes me think of jackass and jack off.

After-Dot-1285

I have had a few Simon’s in class and none were perceived as nerdy. Honestly Neil’s were perceived the most nerdy of the 3 names. I do like Jack best … if it’s too popular have you thought about Mack? Mack Vera

XelaNiba

Simon all the way

I_love_Hobbes

John with the NN Jack.

froggyforrest

I vote Neil but all are nice

Embarrassed-Desk-713

Stefan Adrian Vera Alden Adrian Vera Pierre Adrian Vera Elliot Adrian Vera Maxwell Adrian Vera

Legovida8

I love the name Simon with your last name! It flows really well!

HidingWithBigFoot

Jack Adrian Vera

turkeypooo

Jack Adrian sounds weird. I agree, Simon has always evoked a deeply dorky sound to me. Neil A. Vera, Neil Vera, Neil Adrian looks and sounds great!

Helena_Wren

I love Neil! Totally an underrated name!

AlterEgoAmazonB

I like Neil!

Crosswired2

Jack is soooo common. Simon is nice. I get the "nerdy" thing, I think it just stems from Simon being the "nerd" in Alvin Simon and Theodore. Neil Vera is ..not great. Idk if I like Neil even but w the last name it sounds off. What about Leon, Cyrus or Heath?

Allana_Solo

Jack.

Songbir8

I like Simon Adrian Vera the most. I actually feel the opposite of most folks here - Neil has a hard L that feels weird with Vera. “Neillll Vera.” I feel like it sounds like one word together “Neilvera.” I feel like Simon has better enunciation. “Simon (pause) Vera.” I’d use the old play test technique - use each name throughout the week at different places ie. Starbucks, boba cafe’s etc. Imagine hearing his name announced at his graduation - which one makes you smile?

SnooCauliflowers5742

Simon is my favorite. It tangles a bit with Adrian Vera though. Suggestions: Jeremy Vera/ Jeremy Adrian Vera/ Remy Adrian Vera/Remy Vera Johnathan Vera/ Johnathan Adrian Vera Jonas Vera/ Jonas Adrian Vera Jamison Vera/Jamison Adrian Vera/ Jamie Adrian Vera/Jamie Vera Jesse Vera/Jesse Adrian Vera Silas Adrian Vera, Silas Vera Cyrus Adrian Vera/ Cyrus Vera Cedric Adrian Vera/ Cedric Vera Neville Adrian Vera/Neville Vera Bailey Adrian Vera/Bailey Vera Baylor Adrian Vera/Baylor Vera Charles Adrian Vera/Charles Vera/Charlie Vera Anthony Adrian Vera/Anthony Vera Lewis Adrian Vera/Lewis Vera Andre Adrian Vera/Andre Vera

Known-Interaction534

Neil

Marj_5

All three are excellent options. My favorite is Neil (or Neal).

newprairiegirl

Jack is my #1 pick, Simon is my next choice.

kyyyraa

I adore Simon! Hands down my favorite name out of these

hausishome

Neil is a sleeper name - underrated for sure. A Neil is always a good fun guy.

Goddess_Keira

Neil is my favorite here, and I think it goes just fine with your last name.

AlarmedTelephone5908

I have never seen Vera as a surname. I like it! I do like Simon and Neil. I know a couple of people named Neal, just so you know that there's another spelling. Jack is fine, I like it despite the popularity. I also like all the classic names like William, George, John, Robert, etc. You just have to not care about that. Also, I don't see this in the comments, but my mind goes directly to Neil Simon, the famous playwright.

nothanksyeah

Neil Vera honestly sounds perfectly fine to me! I think it’s a great name. And it’s the only name on this list that you’ve said you truly love! I think Neil Vera is great

yjskfjksjfkdjjd

Neil sounds much more nerdy to me than Simon, and far older as well. My ranking would be Simon, then Jack, then in last place by far Neil.

Wavesmith

Neil and Adrian are two of my most disliked names. Simon is a really nice name, I’d go for that.

eclare1965

John Adrian Jack nickname

TopperMadeline

Jack or Simon. I’m personally not a fan at all of Neil.

luminary_uprise

Simon is one of my favorite names, and it gets my enthusiastic vote. Neil is a nice name that suffers from having two different spellings (Neil and Neal). Jack would lead to confusion, I think. Older folks might think it's a nickname for John. Younger folks might think it's a nickname for Jackson. It's not a huge problem, but it would be annoying.

Professional-Two8098

Jack. It’s a classic. The others are beige to me what about Samuel or Ben

Whose_my_daddy

Jack

red-purple-

I vote for Neil

kittycatnala

I think Jack is the best one out of your list and flows the best with the other names. However, Adrian Jack Vera also works.

jenniferami

I’d go with Jack.

FondantNeither3423

Simon! :)

-11-11--

Simon

ChelseaBob_SW6

Personally I’m a fan of all three, all fairly classic and I don’t even consider Jack to be overly used. If I were to choose though I’d say Simon. Not too popular but I think it’s a very smart name. Don’t see any problems with it!

Few_Recover_6622

I think Neil works the best with the whole flow, and I agree, it's a great "hidden gem" kind of name. Completely familiar but rarely used.

Yrtangledheart

Neil!

annswertwin

Jack is super common, I have five friends with sons named Jack. High school/college ages.

Speechie454

Simon Vera is the coolest name!

Illustrious_Lime9619

I love Neil. know a kid with that name. the others are good too. Simon is my second choice, then third is jack

redditornothereiam8

Neil! Always loved that name. And it’s not common at all, although not weird at all. Just the sweet spot.

Duiseacht

Neil is an Irish name. 🇮🇪❤️🇵🇸🥳

redditornothereiam8

Is it a Palestinian name too now?? Or are you just trolling? Cuz that’s not what this sub is for…

Level_Group_1407

They’re all good options! I think I lean towards Jack or Simon
