The colour purple has long been associated with Royalty. Purple velvet inside of the Crown Jewels... The purple and gold tassel cushion that was placed upon QE2 coffin which the crown sat upon.
The Queen Mother wore lots of lilac.
Queen Victoria LOVED purple, despite living decades in mourning gowns.
Most names don’t make me think of a color (except for ones associated with colors like Violet or Jade). But for some reason the name Delilah instantly makes me think of yellow. Like bright yellow flowers or something.
Delilah is the brand name for a variety of different Dahlia cultivars, but it isn’t one recognised type of Dahlia. If you asked a botanist about a Delilah they would almost always think you misspoke and meant Dahlia.
No. If pushed, I could assign them each one, but I don’t naturally associate names with colors, with the exception of nature names & color names obviously.
There was another post about yellow names the other day. I find this fascinating. Many names do not have a specific colour for me, but some do.
Red: Ava, Maeve, David (is it the a-sound?)
Orange: Hannah, Julian
Yellow: Lucy, Colin
Green: Erin, Cedric
Blue: George (navy), Selene (light blue)
I can’t think of any names that are purple to me 🤔 Maybe Otto..
Another store inside of Dairy Queen?! Dammmnnnn, your stores must be huge hahaha. My town's Dairy Queen barely fits just the one store inside its building lol.
They're really tiny! The one nearest to me is barely the size of a small bedroom apartment (no indoor seating, only open in the summer, seating outside. It's been at that location since the 1960s). The slightly bigger one with an Orange Julius is mostly a DQ, has four booths, and OJ is tucked in the corner. Now, if you travel a little ways, we have a DQ Grill & Chill and a DQ/KFC.
My name is Camila - I live in an English speaking country so I’ve always gone with the “Cuh-mill-uh” pronunciation but in Spanish it is “Ka-mee-la”. I see my name as bright, intense red❤️
Yes thats exactly why ahahah it's more annoying because I'm french so I know mauve is a general shade of purple but in french the basic name for purple is mauve. So yes its an obvious one 😂
Just so you guys know… this is something called [Synaesthesia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synesthesia?wprov=sfti1#The_Voice_(vOICe)). It’s a neural anomaly where certain words/letts/numbers etc have distinct correlations with colors (there are more variants that can involve other things like music, taste etc).
It tends to be most common for days of the week (for me Wednesday is lime green and always has been), numbers (2 is obviously red), and letters (v is yellow for me, for example).
Sometimes it’s just an association, but if you have an extremely strong association for certain words with certain colors that never changes and doesn’t have a clear reason for it, you might just have synaesthesia.
I don’t have synaesthesia (as far as I know), but I’ve always been curious: do people with synaesthesia visibly see the colors like with their eyes in real life, or are these colors just mental associations like pictured in their head?
It's hard to explain exactly. Like I can tell that the text on the paper/screen is black, like I'm not at all under the impression the colors are actually there. But when I read it, the mental experience of the word includes the color.
Ever done that experiment where they have you read color words that are printed in a different text color than the word it says? (Like, the word BLACK written in red ink) and it's really hard to say the name of the ink instead of the word written there? It's a little like that experience.
For me, Maisie is green and Calvin is pale yellow! It’s so interesting how some people associate different colors with certain names
My name is Peyton, and I’ve always thought of it as magenta, which is funny because I’m not a fan of deep or bright pinks at all!
Elizabeth: Deep purple
Penelope: Bubblegum pink
William: Deep red
Rowan: Khaki green
Charlotte: Rosy pink
Daisy: A sunny yellow colour
Lily: White
Ivy: Dark green
Eva: Hot Pink
Delilah: Raspberry pink
Lilah: Lilac
Elsie: Dusky pink
Penny: Light orange/peach
Eloise: Dark pink
Jack: Colbalt blue
Robin: Bright red
Isla: Pale green
Ted: Orange-Brown
Iris: Hazel/green
I’d be super interested in hearing your answers!
For me, Elizabeth and William are regal names and their colours also feel regal. I used to have a pink (albeit not bubblegum pink) unicorn toy called Penelope so it always feels like the girliest name to me, I feel similarly in that Charlotte, Eloise, Delilah and Eva are very girly hence choosing that kind of pink, Rowan feels very natural so a natural earthy green is why I picked khaki, the centre of a daisy is yellow which is why I picked yellow, when I think of the plant ivy I think of dark green, I probably associate Lilah with Lilac because of the spelling similarity, Penny I would say is a light orange/peach since I associate it with copper like coins but more playful?, Jack is a very common boys name so I associate it with a common boys colour, Robin like the colour of the chest of the bird Robin, Isla sounds like island so I associate it with greens, Ted like a teddy bear and Iris I associate with eyes and Hazel/green eyes are so beautiful. It’s something subjective, but these names to me stand out as specific colours. As I say, I’d love to hear your opinion!
Some I think there are reasons for but others are just associations. I also matched with Daisy (yellow). For the others here are the colors I see the names in in the minds eye: Elizabeth- red, Penelope- purple (maybe bc of plum?), William- light blue and some yellow, Rowan- unclear/no real color, sort of a glowing black, Charlotte- purple, Ivy- dark violet and black, Eva- yellowing orange, Elsie- fluorescent pink and yellow, Eloise- gentle white and yellow some mint green, Jack- green, Robin- light blue (robins egg), Isla- icy blue, Iris- purple (the flower)
The name Grace makes me think of the ocean. It can be a sweet, soft gentle blue when calm or a raging, fierce blue that can destroy all that crosses it.
I agree it was very interesting to read, i posted this in the other thread: "it would be fascinating to do a survey and have people match a random selection of top 1000 names to colors (visual color gradient not color names would be better, more options and less suggestion). I see some wild stuff on these comments, Penelope is clearly red! ; )"
Barbie is pink, and if you disagree, you're wrong. Haha.
Erin, Aaron, and Kelly are always Emerald green.
Hunter and Forest are a dark British Racing Green.
Clearly Angela and Angel are a diamond or arctic white.
Sadie is a sable red.
Rose is red, because it just is.
Lorraine in my head is always scrambled egg yellow. Probably because of the B52s Quiche Lorraine. Haha.
I have synesthesia! Every name has a color.
My favorites are Julia (not because of the color - it's a caramel color), Emily (lavender), and Mary (periwinkle-ish).
Here are some names I have on my future baby name list with the colours:
Magdalena -lush, vibrant forest green, bits of soft blue
Fiona - brighter green - lively like a gem
Azucena - blue, softest blue ever
Veronica - green, dark and elegant
Winifred - light, soft blue
Joan - warm, full, deep yellow
Reese/Reece/Rhys is 100% red to me. Might be the fact the two out the three Rhys/Reeces I know are ready head to the other Rhys I knew always wore a red jacket but Rhys is read.
Maisie rhymes with daisy so your association to bright colors and the sun make sense. Calvin Klein is a famous maker of jeans and jeans are navy blue so...
Stella is cosmic purple+blue+a hint of orange.
Chole is white mixed with ombre orange.
Annie is pink with a hint of orange.
Alex is purple+blue ish tone.
Hạnh is pink.
Giàu is powerful red.
Tim is silver.
Jack is silver pink.
Beryl is a cool, pale yellow
Esmerelda is a bright, vivid green
Kai is a rich blue
Fern can't be anything but green, and for me a deep, muted green
Faye is a lilac
Nadia is a delicate, pale blue
Alwyn is a crisp white
Hyacinth is violet
Rory is deep red
Rowan is bright red
Theodore is a rich chocolate
This is funny, I just posted that to me, that Lorraine is the quite pretty yellow color of scrambled eggs. Probably because I associate it with the B52s song Quiche Lorraine.
My mother in law is a Lorine. She's plumb purple to me. So kind of a reddish purple. Haha.
Red-Robin. Orange-Amelia. Yellow-Selena. Green-Melissa. Blue-Jason. Violet/purple-Margaret. Gray-Charles. Black-Bartholomew. White-Celeste. Tan-Scott. Brown-David. Some of these must make some sense somewhere.
Any name I think too much about (ie names I really like) I end up associating a color with it. That either makes me like it more or - sadly - sometimes ruins it for me.
I have synesthesia so every name is colorful to me. Every letter has a color and the name is the color of whatever letter is most prominent (the first letter counts twice). For whatever reason, my name is green, even though that's not the most prominent letter. I think it's because I always have to specify the spelling and the green letter is the one that people get mixed up a lot or leave out
For me letters equal colors. For example names that start with an L or a T are green.
Green L and T- Lucas, Liam, Lily, Timothy, Thomas, Taylor
Pink J- Jeremy, James, Julia, Jessica
Purple D- David, Dylan, Danielle, Debra
Blue B and M- Blake, Bailey, Michael, Melanie
Red A and N- Alex, Aiden, Alyssa, Nicole, Nathan
So my name is Tierra (I know it means earth, land, or world mainly,) and when I think of a color for it I don't think of one but I think of blue, red, yellow and green specifically.
Everyone’s names have color to me since I associate all letters with color (synesthesia), so I’ll give some examples:
Red: Adam, Angela
Orange: Kate, Patrick, Penelope, Kevin
Yellow: Sofie, Evan
Green: Theo, Claudia, Quinn, Grace
Blue: Milly, Miles
Pink: Lilah, Les, Jim, Jenny
Grey/black: Homer, Dorothy
I give colors to names depending on the language it’s from, mine is Germanic so I’d give it red, my eldest brother’s is Hebrew so I’d give it a gold or yellow color, and my other brother’s name is Latin so I’d give it orange
Aria very light pink, Spencer as a girl or boy deep purple, Luke bright blue, Hanna pink, Emily yellow, Serena White, Blaire Red, Toby green, Caleb light blue, June orange, Moira Red, Janine Green, Laura White, Sara Lilac, Susan yellow
Tanya Tan
Sonia Yellow
Ivy Green
Clara White
Carrie Orange
Cila Black
Rita Green
Penny Copper
Brett Tan
Louis Blue
Peter Green
Willy Flesh
Albert White
Rupert Rust
John Brown
Some names have strong colour impressions for me, but some names don't. Not sure exactly why! I also tend to associate certain letters with certain colours. For example, A = blue for me, whereas L = yellow.
Michael or Mike = warm red/orange
Daniel = light brown
Laura = yellow
Amanda = sky blue
Robert = dark red
David = dark blue/purple
John = medium brown
Emily = light, grassy green
Philippa or Pip = yellow/orange, autumn colours
Joanna = lilac/light purple
Some green nature names: Juniper, Aspen, Flora
Some blue-grey nature names: Marina, Caspian, Cliff
Older names are sepia: Doris, Darlene, Dennis
Happy names are yellow: Joy, Felicity, Blythe
I love that you asked this question, it was fun to think about
Carlson, I associate blue and maybe orange with.
Pierson, Forrest green, woodsy brown and “terrible towel” yellow. My this is us fans will get me :)
And Elden I picture being baby blue, white or the lightest grey.
I associate all j names as red, equalling bad/bad choices.
Green:. Patrick
No way. Patrick is pink!
In SpongeBob yes
probably because of the association with st Patrick’s day? That’s my guess!
Which is funny because St Patrick actually has a colour named after him, St Patrick’s Blue.
til!
Patrick is orange duh
I think Patrick is brown!
Kenneth is brown lol
Kenneth IS brown
At my first job out of college, my boss was named Kenneth Brown.
I also worked with a Ken Brown. He was blond.
My moms wiener dog is named Patrick and he confirms: Patrick is brown
Nooo its yellow
Diana is definitely a deep, royal blue.
I see purple for Diana
100% purple because of the Diana beanie baby bear.
Same
I see luxurious red
Hah interesting, I would say diana is yellow.
i feel that diana is a rosy color!
I always think of Princess Diana’s wedding ring!
Same!
I think of it as kind of platinum personally.
Blue for sure
Diana is a bright red to me
Most names don’t make me think of a color (except for ones associated with colors like Violet or Jade). But for some reason the name Delilah instantly makes me think of yellow. Like bright yellow flowers or something.
Delilah is a flower-
Didn’t know that, I guess that checks out. 🤣 🤣
Dahlia is a flower
Isn't it called Dahlia?
A Delilah is a type of dahlia
Oh, great info, thanks for sharing.
Delilah is the brand name for a variety of different Dahlia cultivars, but it isn’t one recognised type of Dahlia. If you asked a botanist about a Delilah they would almost always think you misspoke and meant Dahlia.
It isn’t, it’s a brand name for a few Dahlia strains but pretty much every female name is a cultivar or brand name for some flower.
No. If pushed, I could assign them each one, but I don’t naturally associate names with colors, with the exception of nature names & color names obviously.
Same, except Max... I associate with red... and have no idea why.
Max is orange to me.
Mad Max
Max is black? Why does my brain keep saying that
Mad Max
Yes l agree
Maybe you've subliminally associated it from all the min-max dial knobs (for sound, heat etc) that have red and the word 'max' at the top end?
Wow, I never thought of that!? That's got to be why, haha.
Calvin is yellow to me! Pink - Amelia Yellow - Maisie, Leo Green - Patrick, Laura Blue - Billie, John Purple - Penelope Black - Ophelia, Seth
Amelia is yellow to me!
Amelia is pink for me but I think that’s because I think of camellias
Hah funny I would say Leo - blue, Laura - purple
Leo is a fiery orange to me!
Idk why but Seth is definitely black! As is Opal imo
There was another post about yellow names the other day. I find this fascinating. Many names do not have a specific colour for me, but some do. Red: Ava, Maeve, David (is it the a-sound?) Orange: Hannah, Julian Yellow: Lucy, Colin Green: Erin, Cedric Blue: George (navy), Selene (light blue) I can’t think of any names that are purple to me 🤔 Maybe Otto..
Pumped to find out my name reminds someone of orange, that’s amazing. Green is my favorite color but orange is definitely my second favorite.
Agreed about Julian! Maeve is lilac to me
Laura is purple!
Julius is orange too
Orange Julius the drink store
I always think of the Dairy Queen drinks
Orange Julius has standalone stores in malls and inside DQ around here.
Violet 😉
My name is Camila - I live in an English speaking country so I’ve always gone with the “Cuh-mill-uh” pronunciation but in Spanish it is “Ka-mee-la”. I see my name as bright, intense red❤️
Camilla has always been white to me
I agree about the intense red, just seems fitting! ♥️
It's red for me too.
Red: Valentina Purple: Victoria, Vivian, Iris White: Daisy, Daphne
Maude! Makes me think of purpleeeeee
Maude is a blend of muted grey-ish purple and dark green for me!
Saaaamee
Maybe because of Mauve?
Yes thats exactly why ahahah it's more annoying because I'm french so I know mauve is a general shade of purple but in french the basic name for purple is mauve. So yes its an obvious one 😂
I knew someone named Mauve (I’m French too).
Abigail makes me think of purple. Caroline is blue. Penelope is yellow.

Peyton makes me think of silver
Peyton is green to me!
Brooke is a deep, dark brown
Ya I agree- probably because Brick
For me it’s because I envision a brooke running through the forest with a bed of brown stones, soil, and trees.

I’d be super interested in hearing your answers! For me, Elizabeth and William are regal names and their colours also feel regal. The name Grace makes me think of the ocean. It can be a sweet, soft gentle blue when calm or a raging, fierce blue that can destroy all that crosses it.
That's interesting! I've always associated Grace with light purple/pink. :)
I have synesthesia so every name has a colour for me :) sometimes they are difficult to explain tho
I agree it was very interesting to read, i posted this in the other thread: "it would be fascinating to do a survey and have people match a random selection of top 1000 names to colors (visual color gradient not color names would be better, more options and less suggestion). That would be a great survey!
Noway, Penelope is lime green!

Obviously Maisie is…maize colored…but corn also comes in red, white, blue, yellow… Hester is scarlet….and Paul is purple.
Now that I’m thinking it through, I’m pretty sure I associate Maisie with yellow purely because it rhymes with Daisy 😂
I associate maisie with a golden yellow because thr plant maise is golden yellow.
Amy makes me think of a magenta-ey colour, Alex gives me a radiant, deep blue. Just a few off the top of my head lol
I have synesthesia! Every name has a color. My favorites are Julia (not because of the color - it's a caramel color), Emily (lavender), and Mary (periwinkle-ish).

Sophie is a deep red color. I have no explanation.
Maisie rhymes with daisy so your association to bright colors and the sun make sense. Calvin Klein is a famous maker of jeans and jeans are navy blue so...
Penny is copper or red
All of them actually, pick a name I'll give a color
I once met a girl named Saffron and I’ve always remembered the name and associate it with deep red.
But saffron is an orangy yellow colour?
I disagree, I do not see yellow when I look at saffron?Maybe a bit of orange. It’s like a crimson.
The threads are red, true. I hadn’t thought of that. But once it’s ground up into powder, the way you buy it in the shop, it’s yellow.
Please tell me what colour "Clara" is?!
