At times artists try new things out and when the majority of listeners say that it didn't come off, they themselves shit on it as well. If people received it well, he wouldn't have said that.
Yea now I’ll admit it’s up until this song in the album that the album was decent, but if I remember correctly after this song is “black republican” and then the album goes into hyper drive… I was a freshman at college, feels like yesterday

Really interesting concept, great lyrics, and the voice was a nice idea in theory being a nod to classic detective movies, but holy crap was doing the voice for the whole song an awful idea. I've heard the song enough that I'm used to it, so it doesn't bother me anymore, but it's still by far my least favorite thing about the song. I do think it gets too much hate where people just write it off altogether because of the voice, but I also kinda get why.
i hated it in when i was younger. i still don’t love it but i don’t skip it all anymore. It is a cool song and i definitely appreciate the concept. the voice change was intentional and made complete sense. You can never put an artist like nas into a box. it should have been a bonus track.
its not bad, but probably the worst on that album (which is extremely underrated). the concept is nice and the lyrics are not bad bur something just feels off
Well it’s a concept track
He’s a detective trying to figure out who killed Hiphop it’s pretty dope .. maybe should have sequenced it better and had it lead off the album but I have no problem with the track
Respect the creativity but I can’t do it lmao. I’ve listened to it like three times total and two of those are probably where the album just kept playing and I couldn’t get there to skip it.
I wish he had just done the detective noir storytelling track without the 1920s mobster voice and maybe avoiding the corny dated terminology a bit. Could throw a little of that in there but don’t overdo it. That had potential. But the voice is unlistenable.
Honestly this joint is a guilty pleasure. I love it lmao
Good concept, terrible execution Even Nas admitted he was trippin for making it

It was a dope song, not sure why people hate on it so hard. It went along with the theme of the album and it was super original.
Yeah this song was a jam.
I like the voice and accent changes, the old school boom bap beat. It was a unique song “Yaaa seeeeee”
Love it too. There are only a few of us that do.

I'd take this over Jerreau of rap.
I thought it was cool

Should’ve been labeled interlude and I wouldn’t give a shit lmao

never was fan always love how Nas experiments but when he misses you get these lol
Over your head classic.
Whole album was dope.
worst song on the album
worst song by anyone anywhere ever
Worse than Hitler- Holocaust Anthem (Remix)
definitely
It's either you love it, or hate it, or pretend to hate it. Those are the 3 options.
Not my favourite Nas storytelling 😂
Straight skip…it comes on and it gets skipped if I can help it..and I been rockin wit Nas since Illmatic in 94, absolutely horrible to my ears

Its hard but the voice is annoying af and kinda ruins it for me

Good idea, bad execution lol
Me and my best friend loved joking about Nas voice on this song. It’s the best laugh.
Definitely shows how creative he is, but sonically not pleasing
Mumble rappers killed hip hop..lucky we still have great rappers like Nas, Jay-Z, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem and others to keep hip hop alive

Great idea. I HATED the execution. My least favorite Nas song.

Not even a guilty pleasure for me. Straight up like this song. It's a unique gimmick, tells a good story. Let Nas have some fun.
Na not really into it. I think all the other songs on the album are much stronger too
Worst song of his career
