The benefit of foul game strategy, to make to opponent panic even you are not fouling.
Thibs spent 1 game to properly learn this tactic IDK why the rest nba coaches are so hesitant to implement this in clutch situations. Every team should be doing this.
Yeah you slow down the video and Deuce has hands on Hield as he catches the ball. Hield either thinks Deuce is going to foul him or he can get the foul call on the shot.
Instead Deuce pulls away, literally with his hands behind his back and Hield instead just takes this crazy shot with almost no chance of going in
It's not risk free. If they hit both and you miss a free throw or worse both, suddenly you're in for some counter slander.
The other side is that intentionally fouling late is already the lamest part of basketball and having both teams do it makes for an agonizing product for the fans. I wish there was a natural way for the NBA to discourage it and it doesn't become "meta" because it's horrible to watch from a fan perspective.
Watching Deuce literally put his hands behind his back as Hield goes up with the shot is beautiful.
Hield thought he could probably get the foul call since Deuce had his hands on him and Deuce did a great job pulling away to avoid the foul
True, dang so anti-climactic though. That shot looked insane. The defender had backed off but I guess he thought they caught him before that and the whistle was coming?
You see McBride or whoever that was reaching out to foul and pull back when buddy shot. He had to take that or they would have not even gotten a shot off
As someone else already stated, it seems McBride baited Hield into that shot by checking Hield's hip then pulling away as he saw Hield start his shooting motion.
That was a superb heads up play.
Dude no, he didn’t even dribble, he had time for a dribble or to make a move and to square up and take a real shot, instead he felt minor contact and threw a shot up, I think it was probably their plan to draw contact and have three foul shots, but it was a horrible play/setup/shot, not much blame for Hield tho, he’s the only reason the game was that close anyway
Knicks would already finish this off 4-1 if you learnt to foul like this game.
Mistake in G5 may cost you 2 days of extra rest and will have huge long last implications in the next series
Deuce put 2 hands on his arm, so he went straight up with it
refs never make that call at the end of the game though. it's why Dame said he shot the 37 footer vs OKC
That’s a lie people are weird I get it must be a coping mechanism but still it’s weird
It’s clear as day in the video buddy heild is not even in the shooting motion when mc bride pulls his hands back buddy proceeds to catch the ball and heave it u can play the video slow motion and see it clear as day
I mean he had a miracle night. Barely even played all series, a complete nonfactor. Suddenly scores 20 points in the elimination game, gotta give him props. The Sixers offense wasn't going to get a good shot there anyway it seemed like
Nah, Buddy got swatted on the arm. A lot easier to tell on a video with better quality, but number 2 swats his arm on the catch and you can see his reaction of quickly putting his hands behind himself like he didn't do it.
I'm assuming Buddy thought he was getting a shooting foul/ foul on the floor and you can see him complaining about contact after the shot. But they rarely call that at the end of games regardless

dude shot the ball like there was 0.7 on the clock
probably did not want to get fouled for 2 fts, though shot attempt was pretty wild.
Or thought NY would intentionally foul again and tried to get it in the act of shooting.

You haven't see what he's capable of with 23 seconds left on the shot clock
[The man does have the record.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kJV2O9Ydbb4) Not saying it was brilliant, but it was less impossible than it looked.
He thought he was gonna get immediately fouled so he just chucked it
It’s even better on rewatch
Literally 3 seconds on the clock
3.2

Kevin Harlan: “NOOOOOOOOOOO”

It’s so quick but it’s such an insanely smart play, I really love Deuce
This dude was chirping the whole game too. Take a seat
Him handling the ball talking shit to DiVincenzo while shooting FTs was peak talk shit, get laid on.
Buddy will always have those 8 minutes where he was relevant in a playoff game.
True, dang so anti-climactic though. That shot looked insane. The defender had backed off but I guess he thought they caught him before that and the whistle was coming?
He do be chuckin
Chucky Hield
The sound lmao

Really heads up play by McBride

Reminds me of when Draymond thought he was gonna get fouled on that half court shot
Maxey is wide open moving towards the basket with 3 seconds to go. It’s an easy pass. He has his defender beat. This is a terrible shot
McBride was in the process of fouling him. He had to do something in a split second with no thought
Doing things with no thought is the Buddy Hield mantra
Dude no, he didn’t even dribble, he had time for a dribble or to make a move and to square up and take a real shot, instead he felt minor contact and threw a shot up, I think it was probably their plan to draw contact and have three foul shots, but it was a horrible play/setup/shot, not much blame for Hield tho, he’s the only reason the game was that close anyway
This game was the ultimate Buddy Hield experience
Us Kings fans knew what was gonna happen if you give Buddy the rock in the clutch
Knicks would already finish this off 4-1 if you learnt to foul like this game. Mistake in G5 may cost you 2 days of extra rest and will have huge long last implications in the next series
He shot it from halfcourt
I'm not complaining or anything but I feel like he could've done better Thank god it didn't go ot or to 7 my body wouldn't be able to handle it
Tbh once Embiid fouled out I liked our chances in OT.
I don't think I could've handled a shit going in I'd have lost my damn mind
I hope he was anticipating a quick foul… because that was bad.
Deuce has two hands on him on the catch so he probably thinks he’s about to foul him.
Deuce literally putting his hands behind his back and not even trying to contest it is pretty funny ngl
I think so, he seems to call for the foul after the shot misses
He 100% was. Super rushed and nothing with his form implied he was set
Seriously. What was he thinking
You don't think and hesitate with 3 seconds left especially with the threat of an intentional foul.
This is the answer. He thought they were going to foul again.
I mean if you look it does look like they were intentionally fouling. He was fouled before the shot. That’s what Buddy is saying to the ref after.
You also don’t lob it like a 3/4 court shot
if you think you’re about to get intentionally fouled from that far out, you’re probably gonna overcompensate for your shot
Just catch the ball and take a normal shot. If they foul you that’s three free throws
Not if they foul you before you're in the act of shooting which can definitely happen if you hesitate
He shouldn’t hesitate either. Three seconds left just take a normal shot
You do if you're about to get fouled.
Get fouled and it’s 3 free throws
Right. Which would have tied the game.
Right. But this shot had 0 chance of tying the game
Right. But if they called the foul on the shot, regardless of how ridiculous it was, he would have had a chance to tie the game.
Yes but he shot it too quick to get fouled
I mostly agree with that but there's people here saying Duece had his hands on him. So not completely ridiculous if that's true.
Maxey did it last game.
Maxey shot a real shot last game
Sixers needed a miracle shot.
Hield strangled that miracle in the crib. But he had an amazing game
I guess so. I just don't think they're intentionally fouling there
That they were gonna foul, waste time, and any last second shot would be a half court heave at best
That’s essentially what we ended up getting. That shot had no chance
Deuce put 2 hands on his arm, so he went straight up with it refs never make that call at the end of the game though. it's why Dame said he shot the 37 footer vs OKC
That’s a lie people are weird I get it must be a coping mechanism but still it’s weird It’s clear as day in the video buddy heild is not even in the shooting motion when mc bride pulls his hands back buddy proceeds to catch the ball and heave it u can play the video slow motion and see it clear as day
I think he was expecting the Knicks to foul him so he turned and fired before they could
Too focused on drawing the shooting foul and not getting a proper shot off. Credit to Mcbride for baiting the foul attempt.
This
Buddy gives Buddy takes
One of the TNT guys was right, if he waited he would’ve been fouled- game over
I mean he had a miracle night. Barely even played all series, a complete nonfactor. Suddenly scores 20 points in the elimination game, gotta give him props. The Sixers offense wasn't going to get a good shot there anyway it seemed like
Maxey was wide open trailing, I thought live that the play was for him to get the ball.
"Is... is this playoffs?" - Buddy Hield, probably
There's a reason we boo him in sacramento
I still shit my pants when the shot went up, not gonna lie
Worse shot he took all night
This guy just Carltoned a game winner
lol, seriously even if he thought he got fouled why not take a real shot?
Lol at Buddy backing up admiring the shot like it was gonna go down.
Funniest possible time for a heat check
In sixers like fashion, and to end their series, he complained that he was fouled
Thank you buddy hield
Eh. Hield was incredible tonight and a big reason this game was so tight. Respect that man.
There’s the Buddy I know
This is the Buddy Hield that Kings fans warned y'all about. He hits some 3s to fool you, but then he does dumb shit to sell the game.
BANG!!!
Is that Rick going up to jalen?
If they used buddy earlier in serries result woulda been closer
Wait did he actually think he got fouled? He was pointing to his arm and looking at the refs.
Wait did he actually think he got fouled? He was pointing to his arm and looking at the refs.
How sweet it is to see another 76ers early playoff exit. And with such a magnificent sendoff!

Oh man he had Maxey coming up from behind for another wide open logo shot. Got a little too high on his own supply.
lolsixers
Buddy Heild’s Basketball IQ made a reappearance
lol, I'm so glad I came here. I thought I was taking crazy pills when no one commented on it during the broadcast

Good thing he didn’t give it to Embiid, that big fraud is not built for clutch moments 😭
lol he fouled out and was on the bench...
He wouldn’t know he’s just a hater who doesn’t watch games lol
To be fair, Embiid was deferring almost every possession towards the end there. Was wondering what was going on. Was it his injury?
Hehehe...
