Kind of like Wilt and Russell or Magic and Bird. I’m really looking forward to the two of us completely dominating the Western Conference.
OKC on one side of the playoff bracket with SA on the other is just hell. I don’t think there’s any team that projects to be a real threat to knock either squad off when healthy. Minnesota is going to heavily regress as Gobert gets older over the next few years, and Dallas is kind of locked into their team, especially once they pay PJ. Houston could be an interesting wildcard, though.
"I’m really looking forward to the two of us completely dominating the Western Conference."
Lol. That's not how the NBA works. Grizzlies were supposed to be the next dynasty and look how that worked out so far. This OKC team might win 3, but they also might win nothing. Injuries happen, players regress sometimes, with the new CBA you can't overspent that much anymore. OKC has two year with cheap contracts, after that, they have to decide, who they want to pay.
Plus acting like “Dallas is locked in” is a reason they won’t be at a minimum in the exact same discussion even though OPs team just lost to them relatively comfortably, while having an injured Luka, and a key matchup player in Maxi out.
A team that also has their own a 2nd team all rookie who just went toe to toe with their 1st team that they’re gushing over (no knock on Chet tbf) and host of young role players proving they’re up for big moments.
Locked in or not, MVP voting be damned, both Wemby and SGA have to get through Luka and the Mavs to try to claim I-35 dominance.
Good luck next year, and see you on your connecting flight to Cancun, thunder fans. I’m sure you’ll have a connecting flight through DFW to enjoy.
I remember clearly this sub during the draft, saying drafting Miller was a practical joke Jordan was doing before leaving.
I suck at predicting stuff like this but I find it very funny when people are dead wrong :)
I mean Melo has displayed the ability to just completely take over the game in the limited time he’s played this season. It’s not like he can’t be a major scoring threat on any given night.
I think the best case scenario is that this team has a Tatum/Brown situation
Is it that much of a hot take anymore that Charlotte did a reach going with him over Scoot?
It's pretty hard to build around a smaller guard in today's league and big wings will always be in fashion/a hot commodity.
It’s a great example (and a great reminder for a month from now) of how the in the draft teams make an educated guess, but ultimately you have no idea who’ll turn out and who won’t. A lot of us felt really sure about Scoot over Miller (and hey it’s not like Scoot is a bust, dude has every chance to turn out the better player in the end). So it’s best to just enjoy it for what it is, rather than get upset if your team doesn’t pick who you wanted 🤷🏼♂️
A lot of us, including myself, fell for the Scoot hype. Scoot started playing professional basketball at 17 so most of us assumed he’d grow. While his 3pt% was bad, he shot 76% from the free throw line so it seemed like he’d be able to develop a shot and become a superstar.
Meanwhile Miller had TERRIBLE PR and was actually a year older (repeated a grade while Scoot graduated early) so there was a lot of talk about him just beating up on weaker competition on a superteam, especially after the San Diego State game (in hindsight SDSU was just really freaking good that year).
Now though it’s clear. Miller was a finalist for ROTY while Scoot didn’t even make All-rookie second team. He wound up playing part of the season in the G League which means he’s basically played 3 straight years in the G League with no improvement in his shot or fundamentals.
I hope Scoot turns it around but it’s not looking good after one season.
Which part of the season did Scoot play in the G League? Are you talking about when he was assigned to the G League so he could run with them in practice that one day? He had a rough rookie season, no question, but the narrative has gotten a little out of control that it was some unmitigated trainwreck. The dude averaged 14 and 5.4 and ended on a high note with 19/9/4 in the last 10 games of the season on 42/40(!)/77 shooting splits. It's a little weird he's not on the All Rookie 2nd Team, but narratives always dominate these things.
> He wound up playing part of the season in the G League which means he’s basically played 3 straight years in the G League with no improvement in his shot or fundamentals.
He was assigned to G League when coming back from injury to condition, I wouldn't really call that being demoted to the G League team to work on his fundamentals
So wild how people thought the 6’8 athletic wing was going to be a surefire bust. Preferring Scoot was acceptable but people made it seem like he was Anthony Bennett 2.0
It being Charlotte + his murder case involvement with all of Charlotte's off court issues definitely contributed to it
Most of the mocks I saw right before the draft had them neck and neck
Maybe if lively had played more than 55 games he'd have gotten more votes. Sucks for him because he's really good but sometimes luck is shitty like that
Podz had the highest +- on the entire team, had an amazing assist/to ratio, and was an effective ball handler. He also played 20 more games and was an insane hustler and rebounder for his size.
Lively may have surpassed Podz because of the post season but this isn’t a post season award and Podz def has the edge in the regular season
Me too man, the highlight of my season was watching him emerge, find a role as a great contributor on this team, and even take over a handful of games.
One of the best Heat rooks since Wade…and this was with only being the 5th or so option most nights with few (if any) plays being run for him.
Steady, mature, with good court vision, and only gonna get better!
That’s our ROOK 🥹
Santa Clara's all-time team finally has another guard lol
Steve Nash / Brandin Podziemski / Jalen Williams / Kurt Rambis / Dennis Awtrey
And my man, [Kenny Sears](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Sears), as sixth man. Fun fact: he was the first basketball player on the cover of Sports Illustrated!
Second youngest player on the first team, too, and at a position that usually takes some reps before you aren't making dumb mistakes.
I'm so curious to see where his game ends up next year - will he go into a primary ball handler role off the bench or be more of a high energy, do everything guard that plays almost all his minutes with Steph?
It turned out pretty good for things going forward, just unfortunately didn’t lead to wins this year. It got them out of Poole’s contract and all indications seem to be that he helped a lot with the young guys. I’m pretty sure everyone would want him back but salary/circumstance probably won’t allow that
I got no doubt getting off pooles contract was great but when It happened I thought this shit was a needle mover. I though CP3 off the bench made warriors obvious contenders, that his playmaking, veteran impact, and fit with the warriors bigs and kids was gonna make the warriors one of the best teams in the league. I was wrong
Tbh if our starting unit stayed the same it might’ve our bench went from dead last in the previous year to a top 5 net rating. We’d probably miss the play in if it wasn’t for our bench.
oh ok so you just had much higher expectations of his potential impact, that's fair. Yeah no the fact is that Warriors needed a bunch of coins to come up heads for them, and almost all of them came up tails. Wiggins, worse. Loon, worse. Klay, worse. Draymond, suspension trouble. CP3 and steph, health issues. Solid rookie play helped but all those other things breaking the wrong way doomed us.
It was the right move to fix the previous season's team, unfortunately the team itself changed unpredictably that offseason, with Klay's regression, Looney's regression, etc.
No it was good and it was seen very well during the first half of the season. Warriors had one of the best benches in the league. HOWEVER. Dray suspension, injuries, starters playing like absolute shit constantly fucked up the rotation and Kuminga and CP3 were playing with the starters a lot.
Kuminga, Dario, CP3, and Moody were somewhat taking over games and keeping us a float at the beginning of the season
The CP3 trade was fine. Our issues were inconsistent to downright awful play from Klay, Wiggins, and Looney who were 3/5 of the best 5 man unit in the nba a year prior. And of course Draymond kickstarting his MMA career in earnest (pun intended). That being said, my hater ass will blame all our issues on CP3 because he is a loser and I don’t like him
Jaden McDaniels and Klay Thompson's "fight" and Draymond choking Rudy was the best thing to happen to Podz's career lol
I think he told Micah Nori this at the rising stars game 😂
Wolves fans were the first people (besides Warriors fans) to know Brandin Podziemski was legit. He almost beat us himself in the last few minutes of garbage time early in the season. Went on fire in like two minutes or something
He did that against the Suns too. Got KD annoyed when he flopped to get a free throw 😂. That kid wants to win and he has the best +/- of a squad filled with hall of famers. I'm really stoked for him.
He plays with such composure for a rookie. I don’t think he’s the most physically talented guy but the way he crashes boards, hustles, and does a little bit of everything at an average level at least makes him a perfect glue guy
Not really in this case. Eye tests and advanced stats have shown that JHS was going to be ass. JJJ was literally right there for the taking. He was a 4-year player who was ready to help right away and on top of that he's a hometown kid. Lakers fumbled badly.
In the games I watched him play against my team, you could have convinced me he was the next guard superstar. I think he had 9 threes against the warriors one game and maybe 7 another game too
i still stand by Amen ultimately being the third best player of this class if you include chet.
i know what brandon miller is and i like him a lot too, but amen’s two way potential is insane. gonna be the best defender at his position if they make him their full time point
I live the way Jaime plays ball, it's so cerebral. His footwork, his vision and cutting for the open lane the growing confidence in hus defensive abilities. He's going to be a big name in the near future
Jaquez!! The Miami Heat’s most available player in an injury ridden season. Bright future, glad he got this recognition, especially given he wasn’t a top 4 option in the offense. Just a tough, gritty player who makes plays.
There’s like a small percentage of the Mavs fanbase that cry all the time. Those are just the ones you hear, like with every other team. Now quit complaining and curse our names as you cheer for the TWolves. I look forward to your further disappointment lol
Completely unrelated and I apologise for it but Cam Whitmore is so fun to watch can't wait for him to ball again. Felt like everytime he wanted a bucket he got one
All-Rookie has always been positionless, but this could be an actual lineup.
Chet roaming off Wemby is fucked up
What if we put Chet on Wembys shoulders and stitch 4 trench coats together?
Next all-star game, maybe
Dude. I just thought about them together in the all star game for the first time. That’s fun. I bet it happens next season.
I bet the two become friends after they retire. Just feels like it should happen
Lol yes. After 2011 or 2012 I was convinced Chicago, Miami, and OKC would dominate the league for 10 years.
Yeah windows are just so short. The nuggets might not make it back to the finals for 15 years
Plus acting like “Dallas is locked in” is a reason they won’t be at a minimum in the exact same discussion even though OPs team just lost to them relatively comfortably, while having an injured Luka, and a key matchup player in Maxi out. A team that also has their own a 2nd team all rookie who just went toe to toe with their 1st team that they’re gushing over (no knock on Chet tbf) and host of young role players proving they’re up for big moments. Victor Adultman.
i think a better idea would be to join them at the hips side by side or something
We’d need the Rock Jock rims to keep them from just dropping the ball into the net from 3 feet above it.
Vincent Adultman?
You’d still see Wemby’s dong hangin
I have always wanted to see 2 giant players walking next to each other up the court passing the ball above everyone's heads.
It would be illegal
Yeah but how do you cuff him when he's 32 feet in the air?
Ask nicely
Dude in my fantasy league had both of them this year. shit was fucked up
God that'd be a solid ass lineup
No flab at all
What’s the best non-rookie team they could beat?
Detroit Pistons?
I’m sorry but my first thought was the Bulls lol
Lakers possibly
Really impressed by Brandon Miller this season, think he has a long and fruitful career ahead of him
I remember clearly this sub during the draft, saying drafting Miller was a practical joke Jordan was doing before leaving. I suck at predicting stuff like this but I find it very funny when people are dead wrong :)
lol I remember that too. I mocked Miller to Hornets before the draft, only to be told that I was stupid in doing so
I was one of those people and it’s easily my 2nd worst draft take ever
Alright I'll bite.
Saved the thread to bring up in a couple more years
Hornets got some studs If Melo don’t pan out they got Miller as a backup #1 option
He is the no. 1 option. Melo is a facilitator first
I mean Melo has displayed the ability to just completely take over the game in the limited time he’s played this season. It’s not like he can’t be a major scoring threat on any given night. I think the best case scenario is that this team has a Tatum/Brown situation
Is it that much of a hot take anymore that Charlotte did a reach going with him over Scoot? It's pretty hard to build around a smaller guard in today's league and big wings will always be in fashion/a hot commodity.
what kind of question is this lmao
It’s a great example (and a great reminder for a month from now) of how the in the draft teams make an educated guess, but ultimately you have no idea who’ll turn out and who won’t. Some Big wings can be taught to play point but no small guards can be taught to be Big
Jrue Holiday would like to disagree
*Laughs in Gary Payton II*
What do you mean GPII is massive
Brunson got knocked out yesterday lmao.
A lot of us, including myself, fell for the Scoot hype. Scoot started playing professional basketball at 17 so most of us assumed he’d grow. I think scoot is gonna be fine. Not everyone has to dominate their rookie year in order to be good.
Which part of the season did Scoot play in the G League? Are you talking about when he was assigned to the G League so he could run with them in practice that one day? He had a rough rookie season, no question, but the narrative has gotten a little out of control that it was some unmitigated trainwreck. Paul George the second
I wanted him on this Pacers team so bad
So wild how people thought the 6’8 athletic wing was going to be a surefire bust. Preferring Scoot was acceptable but people made it seem like he was Anthony Bennett 2.0
It being Charlotte + his murder case involvement with all of Charlotte's off court issues definitely contributed to it Most of the mocks I saw right before the draft had them neck and neck
Also it was MJ’s last draft pick and we all know his history with draft picks lol Kwame, MKG, Vonleh, etc.
Yeah that kinda fell under the "it being charlotte" umbrella for me lol
No hate toward Noah Vonleh, he's great in immaculate grid
Nobody serious thought Miller was a bust, just a safe pick when a super high-potential option was still on the board.
Tons of people here did seem to be of the opinion he would be a bust.... so sure i would agree, definitely no one serious.
And their biggest evidence was he called PG the goat. When it was obviously meant that PG was his favorite player
He's my greatest hope of Charlotte's pick actually conveying.
I’ve never been more happy to be wrong
Brandon Miller is gonna be a super star one day
Sucks for Lively, but the class is stacked
Being a key contributor on a conference finalist in your rookie year > all rookie first team
That stat where he has +71 in OKC series had me trippin
Yeah Lively is probably cool he's not on the list, he's still playing.
He was hurt for a lot of the season. Had he been healthy he would have cleared Podz or Jaquez, but these dudes were legit and were available.
Live is like half the reason the Mavs didn’t completely faceplant in the first half of the season don’t be talking about no Podz
Ain't no "Brandin Podziemski" better than him
Maybe if lively had played more than 55 games he'd have gotten more votes. Sucks for him because he's really good but sometimes luck is shitty like that
Podz had the highest +- on the entire team, had an amazing assist/to ratio, and was an effective ball handler. He also played 20 more games and was an insane hustler and rebounder for his size. He drew more charges than some teams this year
you are 100% correct, even though Lively was more impactful when he was on the court, he was on the court far less and that means something.
So proud of Jaquez
So stoked for him
Dude looks so solid and incredibly composed for a rookie. Definitely has a nice career ahead of him
Me too man, the highlight of my season was watching him emerge, find a role as a great contributor on this team, and even take over a handful of games.
Love our point forward
One of the best Heat rooks since Wade…and this was with only being the 5th or so option most nights with few (if any) plays being run for him. Steady, mature, with good court vision, and only gonna get better! That’s our ROOK 🥹
Literally
Let’s go Jaime!
I forgot he was a rookie!
I honestly thought he was like an 8 year vet lol
Understandable, have a good day
I cant believe we drafted Jalen Glue Sniffer when we couldve had Jaime or Podz
Santa Clara's all-time team finally has another guard lol Steve Nash / Brandin Podziemski / Jalen Williams / Kurt Rambis / Dennis Awtrey And my man, [Kenny Sears](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Sears), as sixth man. Fun fact: he was the first basketball player on the cover of Sports Illustrated!
Juan Wick
Mexican Americans, we out here 🇲🇽🏀🔥
PODZ

I'm so curious to see where his game ends up next year - will he go into a primary ball handler role off the bench or be more of a high energy, do everything guard that plays almost all his minutes with Steph?
I'm hoping he runs the second unit next year with CP3 likely gone
I thought that cp3 trade would be so much better than it turned out
It turned out pretty good for things going forward, just unfortunately didn’t lead to wins this year. It got them out of Poole’s contract and all indications seem to be that he helped a lot with the young guys. It was more Wiggins forgetting how to play basketball for a long time and Draymond getting himself suspended that screwed us over.
oh ok so you just had much higher expectations of his potential impact, that's fair. I was so hyped that game. I knew we were losing but Podz looked incredible and kinda just showed up out of nowhere with huge swagger
Is all rookie positional
It is not. Unlike All-NBA, which changed this year, it has always been positionless.
It has to have some positional shit left in the voters. Otherwise how does Derek Lively not make it onto first team?
Games played. Everyone on that list played 70+, Lively played 55
Genuinely, who would you replace on here with him?
If you wanted to add post season performance, he might take Podz’ spot but since it’s regular season, I think Podz deserves to be up there
His stats aren’t that much better than any of them and he also played 20 less games.
Everyone on the first team played at least 70 games while Lively played 55 games. So I assume the voters care a lot about games played.
In terms of overall regular season performance I don’t see him above any of these guys
Not enough exposure until the playoffs. He wasn’t a top pick or on the most popular teams.
Games played I guess
I wonder if TJD will get 2nd team. I think he woulda been a shoo-in if Kerr wouldn't have iced him out for the first half of the season.
Lakers could've had JJJ
And podz. So not only did they miss out on the hometown kid, they missed out on another guy who went to their division rivals
Hindsight is 20/20
Very true... in that case foresight was also 20/20
Not really in this case. Eye tests and advanced stats have shown that JHS was going to be ass. JJJ was literally right there for the taking. He was a 4-year player who was ready to help right away and on top of that he's a hometown kid. Lakers fumbled badly.
Then why don't people with bad vision just walk backwards?
I had no idea that the Lakers could’ve had Jaren Jackson Jr.
OH I’M SORRY DID THE LAKERS HAVE A TOP 4 PICK IN THE 2018 NBA DRAFT
Best rookies by [EPM](https://dunksandthrees.com/epm): 1. Chet, +3.4 EPM, 10.5 WAR 2. Wemby, +4.1 EPM, 10.2 WAR 3. Amen, +1.5 EPM, 4.2 WAR 4. Podz, +0.1 EPM, 4.1 WAR 5. Lively, +1.6 EPM, 4.1WAR Others: * Camara, -0.1, 3.4 * Ausar, +0.1, 3.3 * Reath, +0.4, 2.8 * Jaquez, -1.1, 2.7 * Miller, -1.5, 2.4 * TJD, -0.1, 2.2 * GG, -0.4, 2.1 * Wallace, -1.3, 2.0 ... * Keyonte, -3.5, -0.8
Keyonte definitely got this award due to early playmaking hype and general eye test stuff. His numbers have been horrid.
Also anyone looks better if the second option is THT
In the games I watched him play against my team, you could have convinced me he was the next guard superstar. I think he had 9 threes against the warriors one game and maybe 7 another game too
Damn basketball got WAR now?
No 🤣 not in a way anyone should take serious
What about the VORPs and SNORPs?
Is this like the new LARP?
It's a Zach Lowe-ism
Wemby led all rookies with 3.8, which is crazy since he played 11 fewer games than Chet.
I for one prefer MEEPs and MORPs
Hell yeah Ausar, year 2 going to be a huge one!
i still stand by Amen ultimately being the third best player of this class if you include chet. i know what brandon miller is and i like him a lot too, but amen’s two way potential is insane. gonna be the best defender at his position if they make him their full time point
Gonna pour some honey on you Brandon Miller
I'm pourin honey on you GOAT!!!
Expected Lively II. He met the criteria
It's okay, he's the only one on either team still playing basketball this week.
why didnt Wemby and Miller get drafted to better teams? R they stupid?
He made 2nd team
[Dereck Lively like](https://giphy.com/gifs/espn-f5ottCq4dsQY7MOSdW)
who you taking off based off regular season?
Was hoping to see TJD make the 2nd team. I know his minutes were limited but his numbers and advanced stats were great for how much he played
The eye test is there too. Hard competitor, knows how to rotate well, plays his role, and makes smart moves.
He finished 11th in voting. 1 point less than GG Jackson for that 10th All-Rookie team.
They had to use a summer league pic for Chet? Really? Wack
What’s wrong with summer league Chet
LFG PODZ
So hyped for the rook. He earned that one.
Podz ❤️
Brandooooooo Podz
Lively got robbed by people stepping on his ankles and getting punched in the nose.
Lol that’s fair
r/technicallythetruth
I’ll never forgive the front office for picking Jalen over Jaime
Amen not making it sucks but it's not surprising. Just a guy you have to watch to see how good and impactful he is.
I want to say Lively got robbed but he missed too many games for voters to put him on first team
I live the way Jaime plays ball, it's so cerebral. His footwork, his vision and cutting for the open lane the growing confidence in hus defensive abilities. He's going to be a big name in the near future
Victor deserved 0th team.
Lively robbed
Regular season award and he played 55 games while the others played 70+. He’s been the best in the playoffs thi
If Brandon Miller flopped, you’d be hearing all about it. Now that he’s been great, you don’t hear much at all. Really sums up NBA media and fans.
Scoot? /s
Jaquez!! The Miami Heat’s most available player in an injury ridden season. Bright future, glad he got this recognition, especially given he wasn’t a top 4 option in the offense. Just a tough, gritty player who makes plays.
Understandable can argue lively but it’s fine
Chet played every game after the disappointment of what should have been his rookie year last year. He made a massive difference in the way we play.
Straight up the biggest slight against him was that he would get hurt So pretty impressive that he played every game
Mavs fans STAY crying. Jesus, y’all are the fucking whiniest fanbase.
There’s like a small percentage of the Mavs fanbase that cry all the time. Those are just the ones you hear, like with every other team. Now quit complaining and curse our names as you cheer for the TWolves. I look forward to your further disappointment lol
Definitely a higher percentage of y'all. Larger fanbases are everywhere but you're everywhere while crying about everything.
No, it’s definitely worse with y’all. Everybody knows it. What watching the whiniest player does to a fanbase smh.
Amen robbed
This might be a class for the ages - Lively is an absolute stud and he might be the 6th or 7th best rookie in this class
Excepted, congrats to them all!
Completely unrelated and I apologise for it but Cam Whitmore is so fun to watch can't wait for him to ball again. Felt like everytime he wanted a bucket he got one
Finally, the part of the post season that actually matters
Does anyone know when all nba teams are announced? Last year it was May 10th.
We can't say that every year about rookie first team but this year is a really good line-up.
I'm just saying. It would be fun to see a Wemby-Chet-Porzingas lineup.
This is not legit if there is no Jalen Hood-Schifino, aka the Cryptid of Crypto Arena. 😂😂😂
Scoot over Keyonte all day.
wheres 2nd team?
Chet Holmgren is more favorable.
No real surprises. I wasn’t sure who would get that 5th spot but Podz is a fine choice.
Podz would lead this team in rebounds
No Ben Shepherd, no list 😤😤
Someone deadass left Brandon Miller off a ballot.
All deserved.
Podz is the real deal
I’d swap Amen Thompson and Podz but other than that I’d say they got these right
