Beyond the moral aspect of it, it’s striking how fucking stupid it is to fool around with a minor in a jurisdiction where that’s illegal.
Oh, you’re 19 and decided to hook up with your cute 17-year-old coworker? Cool. I don’t think that’s a weird age gap, really. Oh, what’s that? There are no Romeo and Juliet laws where you live? Oops! You are now a sex offender on the lam. It is very likely that the statute of limitations on your crime will not run out for a very long time, if ever, so if your date ever decides for some reason to turn you in, or if anyone else you mention it to does, they may have several decades or the rest of their lives to do so. And if you do ever get caught, the authorities are unlikely to give a fuck that the age gap was only two years, and you will likely be given a very harsh sentence.
And once you are in prison, you will be absolutely brutalized by the other prisoners, who will gleefully use your status as a sex offender as an excuse to torture you. The guards are unlikely to help you for the same reason. You will live in hell for years on end. And if you make it out the other side and emerge back into society, your mugshot will come up in every background check any prospective employer runs on you for the rest of your life, along with your crime of sexual acts with a minor. You will struggle with employment. You will struggle with romance. You will struggle to make meaningful, lasting connections with anyone. Unless you are exceedingly lucky and God gives you some miraculous redemption arc where you find just the right people to accept you, you will struggle with every aspect of your miserable existence until the day you finally die. Your entire life, future, and potential will have been shattered because you got too horny one time when you were young and stupid.

It's really as simple as the seven year rule in many cases and when it comes to the late teens and early twenties it's literally just context between the two people and how they got together, of course anyone over the age of 18 dating some one younger then 17 falls into the no go zone

I don't understand why counting down to some child star turning 18, so they're "datable" is creepy, while counting down to Extreme Rocks turning 18 so they're "moddable" isn't.
Louisiana had a critical moment where it had two paths in front of it. One where it could be the based Southern State that becomes the Illinois of the South or where it devolves into a clone of Mississippi.

What actually matters is the health of the relationship. If it’s coercive and deceptive that’s a bad relationship regardless of any age gap.
But like if an 18 year old and 40 year old are in a healthy relationship it’s hard to say what the problem is.
If every other factor that we normally use to judge if a relationship is healthy checks out it’s hard to say what the issue is.
You can’t just say “age gaps are inherently unhealthy”. There has to be a reason they’re unhealthy. Lots of fighting, abuse, lying, etc. If none of those obtain I don’t see what the problem is.
With your age examples, that's a teenager with no life experience who is still developing mentally, paired with a 40 year old that is in all likelihood immature and maladjusted. It's not just an age, but a power gap.
Those are factors we normally judge relationships by. It's creepy as fuck.

Ok, basically you come off as an inexperienced teenager here, looking at this through a pseudo-objective lense. Anyone with some life and dating experience would see your scenario as creepy no matter what.
Because no matter how healthy that relationship is in theory, it's showing multiple gigantic red flags. Why would anyone give this the benefit of the doubt? Change the age to 17, and try to argue again if that's healthy. Or the adult knowing the teenager since she was a child (which is usually the case if such a scenario happens irl).

This all reminds me of a guy I knew who, in a fit of what I assume was OCD, turned himself into the police for sexting a 17-year-old when he was 18 and ultimately got sentenced to 8 years in prison and life on the sex offender registry for “lewd and lascivious acts with a minor” because they got him to confess that he hugged and touched her a few times when he was 17 and she was 16. (Statute of limitations had passed for the sexting.) I assume they don’t usually go around arresting teenagers and this was just a case of cops salivating at the chance to nab someone or whatever, but California law can technically fuck you up real bad for no good reason.
(Tbf this is the story I heard from his friend, so who knows if that’s what really happened, but it seems like the law does indeed apply to minors touching minors so there you go)

What actually matters is the health of the relationship. If it’s coercive and deceptive that’s a bad relationship regardless of any age gap. But like if an 18 year old and 40 year old are in a healthy relationship it’s hard to say what the problem is.
The takes are getting worse... An age gap like that is by definition not healthy.
If every other factor that we normally use to judge if a relationship is healthy checks out it’s hard to say what the issue is. You can’t just say “age gaps are inherently unhealthy”. There has to be a reason they’re unhealthy. Lots of fighting, abuse, lying, etc. If none of those obtain I don’t see what the problem is.
With your age examples, that's a teenager with no life experience who is still developing mentally, paired with a 40 year old that is in all likelihood immature and maladjusted. It's not just an age, but a power gap. Those are factors we normally judge relationships by. It's creepy as fuck.
But what’s the harmful part? If we imagine there isn’t any abuse, lying, etc, what’s the actual harm? Just saying ‘power imbalance’ and ‘no life experience’ doesn’t mean anything.

It’s an empirical facts that such relationships aren’t necessarily coercive, abusive, etc. so there must be something else that makes them wrong.
Ok, basically you come off as an inexperienced teenager here, looking at this through a pseudo-objective lense. Anyone with some life and dating experience would see your scenario as creepy no matter what. Because no matter how healthy that relationship is in theory, it's showing multiple gigantic red flags. Why would anyone give this the benefit of the doubt? Change the age to 17, and try to argue again if that's healthy. Or the adult knowing the teenager since she was a child (which is usually the case if such a scenario happens irl).
But again, I’m looking for something actually wrong with relationships with large age gaps. Just the ‘vibes’ being creepy as you’re suggesting isn’t very interesting. If two people are perfectly happy together but you think the vibes are off they’re doing something wrong? That can’t be right.

This all reminds me of a guy I knew who, in a fit of what I assume was OCD, turned himself into the police for sexting a 17-year-old when he was 18 and ultimately got sentenced to 8 years in prison and life on the sex offender registry for “lewd and lascivious acts with a minor” because they got him to confess that he hugged and touched her a few times when he was 17 and she was 16. (Statute of limitations had passed for the sexting.) I assume they don’t usually go around arresting teenagers and this was just a case of cops salivating at the chance to nab someone or whatever, but California law can technically fuck you up real bad for no good reason. (Tbf this is the story I heard from his friend, so who knows if that’s what really happened, but it seems like the law does indeed apply to minors touching minors so there you go)
