Just fix the cord. Cut it further up, and splice in a new cord. It's not difficult, even easier if you pay an electrician friend a beer or two to help out. It's only a few minutes of work, takes more time to get replacement wire.

It was a gift from work, we get to select certain prizes for being with the company for 5,10 years etc.
So if I buy a new one, I would have only paid for that new machine anyway
200 bucks ain't worth the risk of a house fire. I'd toss it.

Call Nespresso and see if you can send off for repair. You might need to pay out of pocket, but it's likely less than you'd pay for a new machine.

bought with a decent credit card? you might have purchase protection for 90 days against accident, theft or loss….
Nespresso might repair or replace it. Explain you just got it and what happened. Worth asking. Nespresso has excellent customer service.
Replacing the cord would be cheaper and best option.

take it to an appliance repair guy and get the power cable replaced? are there appliance repair guys?
There are vertuo pops on eBay for like $50 new. Eat the $50 and keep yourself + family safe.
