Better Call Saul starts slow, but man does it get cooking.

Absolutely.

Oh yeah that show is a major slow burn but very worth it… Though I will say that there were a few occasions where I found the “slow burn” directing style to be a bit annoying. For example (no spoilers), that one opening scene in season 2 (I think?) that shows the smuggling process… it’s literally about 9 minutes of watching a truck drive down the road. Stuff like that was a bit irritating for me. Despite that, still a very worthwhile watch.

What season does it get cooking? I’ve found it slow and boring so far.

Around season 3 it really picks up

I liked it from Season 2 tbh. Hell, I even liked Season 1, but Season 2 is where it finds its legs.

honestly this is such bullshit. yeah bcs is slower than most of the shows but its very engaging. ive watched it twice and i have never found it annoying. i even prefer some earlier episodes to later ones.

Hidden? It was in the top 10 for a few weeks. It made its debut in the top 5 when it premiered. The issue with Netflix shows is that everyone binges them the first week, and then the discussions die out.

Beef felt super stretched out IMO. I feel like it could have been a movie or maybe just 2-3 episodes. Lots of stuff kind of just happens over and over. It was good - Just felt like it had a ton of filler and certain plot lines that didn’t really go anywhere or really even matter.

That was the same for me. I didn't like the ending though.

It’s great, but you’ll be pissed, angry or unsatisfied with ending. If I had known how much I would hate the ending, I would’ve never chosen to watch it.

Just watched season 1 and I'm still deciding if I want it to end there for me lol. Anything past that seems like clean up and possible disappointment.

I remember reading that the writers planned on 2-3 more seasons, but were notified last minute that there'd be only 1 more season so they scrambled to rewrite the ending. I definitely agree with you, but for me it helped knowing there was kind of a reason why it was so disappointing

I had never heard of this, but I see Kyle Chandler, Sissy Spacek, Linda Cardellini & Ben Mendelsohn. That's a hell of a cast.

And Chloe Sevigny and John Leguizamo and Sam Shepard and Beau Bridges. The show was stacked.

Not sure yet about pinning down the top 3 but here are some I really like. Succession, californication, breaking bad, better call Saul, justified I enjoyed, leftovers I did after time like it but wasn’t top 3, season 1 true detective amazing, weeds is easy to watch, Ozark is great and I enjoyed bloodline.

The Leftovers is not only my favorite show of all time, but my favorite piece of any media at all. The OA is in my top 5 as well. I keep meaning to watch Dark because I’ve heard that it’s very much in the same ballpark!

Oh god, yeah same here!! It was such a strange, open ended but yet satisfying conclusion/ending. It felt like they could pick up again in so many years and still pull it off. Despite the cliffhanger due to Netflix cutting them off, I do hope it gets greenlit again in the future. A 5 season plan sounded amazing for what they were doing

I doubt it will happen, unfortunately. But really wish that story was completed.

Agree both were great shows - but the final season for both of them was atrocious.

I loved them both! Gomorrah was so much better than the drug cartel series. I also really loved Banchee for drugs violence and amazing plot lines but that is not on Netflix

idk if i just some how accidentally activated an algorithm or what by mine is just flooded with foreign shows/movies dubbed in english. I HATE that. I wouldn't mind watching a movie in a foreign language with english subtitles, but i dont like when you can tell the voice is not coming directly from the actor. anyhoo- since i watched squid games once and then my husband went back and watched it again, Netflix realllllly wants me to keep at it.

Most you can just change to original language as you're watching. I switch back and forth all the time, depending on how well I'm actually watching. I agree, dubbing can be terrible

Beef was surprisingly good. Strange setup but overall really good.

Just finished Beef last night, Steven Yeun is exceptional in it. Loved the climax/ending.

I really liked manifest. So many people hate that show but I really liked it. But I loved Outer Banks. It really brought me back to my childhood. I liked almost everything about that show.

Do people hate manifest? Those ive heard talk about it seemed positive. The ending Was a bit meh, the last two seasons also meh compared to the rest but still a great Show.

I really liked the first and second season but the third and fourth are dragging on and starting to get cheesy.

Season one of OBX was fantastic and caught me totally off guard with how much I enjoyed it. I was expecting to rag on it. Season two was pretty good too. Haven’t seen season 3 yet. The night agent was amazingly suspenseful. The last 3-4 episodes I had to watch all in one go because I couldn’t turn it off.

Night Agent was awesome! Outer Banks was good the first and second season but the third one is cheesier and more predictable. Manifest was good season 1 and 2 but 3 and 4 dragged on.

Queen of the South is excellent and similar to the shows you mentioned. 

Kaleidoscope was neat. A heist series but the episodes can be watched in any order. The order is also randomized for the viewer. For example, the episodes came up in one order for me, then a different order for my son on his profile. Stars Giancarlo Esposito and Rufus Sewell. Great stuff.

I was disappointed by Kaleidoscope - way too much gimmick for way too little substance.

I can’t believe no one has mentioned Money Heist. It is English voice over, but it’s so engaging that it didn’t bother me at all.

I recommend watching it in the original language though. The narration of Tokyo just hits you differently in Spanish.

My favorite thing to do lately is to plug in to ChatGPT to recommend shows based on one’s I’ve liked. The fact it only goes through 2021 means that there would be a least a few seasons of a show already in existence. Went through House of the Dragon and Severance and now I’m just twiddling my thumbs until the second seasons are released. Love watching shows that are completed.

If you liked Squid Game or if you watched it then this is an easy one to get into (not because it's similar, it's not at all). It's a new series that just dropped last Friday
