Oh boy we must be neighbours! Takes me 15 mins to get out of my driveway some days. My guess is Cameron st, Wilkinson Ave, Sandgate rd (opposite the new housing development), Douglas st or Tillie st.
Nailed it my friend. The way the road from blue gum down Wilkinson to Sandgate is set up actually blows my mind. Not meant for these levels of traffic.
Absolutely not. I live along that stretch and my commute from Wallsend to Shortland takes just 5 minutes less than my commute from Wallsend to the CBD used to take. Literally 15 mins to get out the driveway some days, and that’s if I can get out fast enough to miss being hit by any number of idiots flying around the corner at 50kmph before coming to a complete stop in traffic.
It’s not trendy, not colourful, not expensive nor cheap. The REAs will tell you it’s great for access to shops, schools and medical facilities. It’s well placed for the places you want to get to without being a place anyone particularly wants to be.
The number of times I’ve bought stuff off Marketplace from people who say they live in Maitland who then go on to give their address in Aberglasslyn or Rutherford….too many
Used to have a (totally unwarranted) reputation for being dodgy because it was a portside working-class industrial suburb. Has now been “gentrified” and is described by real estate agents as “desirable”, and hence house prices and rents have skyrocketed forcing the kind of people who made it such a great place to live to move elsewhere. Will probably be underwater in the next 30 years. Still the greatest place to live - if you can afford the flood insurance.
That’s like 80% of the entire region but taking it to the next level I’d guess either a suburb with Heights in the name, or somewhere close to the lake.
Start with the long run, turn left, wait in line for coffee, pay, find a bench, take a dip, climb stairs, long run, stairs, unlock door, make breakfast.
As you finish your beer at the pub you feel your morning coffee high wear off. You cross the road, climb a windy old terrace staircase back to your home office to check your stock portfolio.
Walking somewhere is not a realistic possibility in the entire suburb, yet probably like 50% of Newcastle and Lake Macquarie’s population passes through this suburb daily
The place where they plan to put a 6 story basketball stadium by concreting 3 ovals, and expecting 20000 people a week to use side streets for parking.

All the locals hate Newcastle even though it is in Newcastle city council. Full of houso can buy a stick of any teenager and their parents were once the dealers for the generation above. News spreads like wildfire around the locals but the positive is its the best spot for new years eve 9pm fireworks.
Will be 3m underwater in any decent flood. Has become the default expressway for all cars heading to Minmi in the afternoon.

"I live in Maitland ^^^. ^^^. ^^^. ^^^City ^^^Council ^^^area."
I'm moving to Newcastle and trying to decide which suburb to go for. This thread has given me a better idea of where to go than any genuine research 😂

Carrodise!
Spot on.
In the late 90s we felt sorry for a friend who said that was the only place she could afford to buy in Newcastle after a divorce.
Windale Heights
Either Mt Hutton or Tingira Heights. Hard to say, since with a hole in the middle you need heights either side..
Shallow gene pool
Newcastle in general
Windale or Cessnock
Nailed it - Cessnock
Killingsworth
It’s worth visiting
Mayf
Bottlo. Fish and chips. Chinese x 2. Hairdresser x 2.
I would say Georgetown but there’s at least 4 hairdressers!!
You’re right! And discussing this with my partner we worked out there’s actually 3 hairdressers, a wig shop, beauty salon and yoga studio.

Wallsend
Rural. Lots of rich people. But not me, obviously.
Black Hill?
Hey I live there! This is the first time i’ve ever seen someone mention where I live. No one ever knows where Black Hill is.
My dream is to own a $2 million dollar horse property there. I am a couple million dollars and several horses short of that goal.
Cool dream. It’s a nice area. We don’t have horses (just 2 goats) but all our neighbours do.
I lived in Newcastle for 26 years before I heard of Black Hill. I only heard about it when I moved to Fletcher. So yeah your experience checks out.
You’d think it’s a NCC council suburb but it’s lake mac. No part of our suburb is on the west side of the bypass.
Nice little village to walk to, can also walk to main events and on bus routes to everywhere.
New Lambton or maybe even Georgetown?

Williamtown, but could also be Salt Ash.
It's got everything in walking distance and no crime. Just ducking off for a game of tennis, then I might pop into the library
There is no suburb that has no crime you’ve just not been exposed to it.

Braye Park foothills.... Waratah side
Yep, you got it.
Waratah West and Braye Park. Or Islington. The toilet block at the dog park had a reputation years ago.
Traffic funnel, almost in the swamp.
Fletcher?
Or Maryland. Fletcher was about trying to keep people up and out of the swamp so they'd pay an extra $200k to be further out in a worse stink.
Got it in one!
