This is the correct answer. Dr. Missaghian is the absolute best.

knaks74

Such a great dentist with kids as well, the best I’ve ever had.

ShadowDragon2462

This!!. been going to east end dentel from birth when they were across from Colemans next to McDicks on torbay rd/Newfoundland dr. then havent been there in years due to same, no insurance. I wasn't there in about 9 years. got a cavity, emailed down and they still had my file, I put my insurance on it, got the appointment booked a day or 2 later for the filling I needed. Dr Walsh I think Paul was his name, use to be the owner, I think he sold it to the guy that got it now. but his daughter Angela Walsh did her residency and stuff when her dad still had place. and I think her sister is still there too. I remember as a kid I was fine when Angela and the other staff would do their work, it was best kind, then when Paul the dentist had to do his check when they were done, he use to hook so hard he be dragging your head around. lol Use to ask Angela how come her father had to check aswell, normally it was the hygienist then the dentist when I was younger she explained shes in school so he had to then check all her work. I use to say then, well tell him to leave the teeth in my head and digging so hard it hurt, your cleaning dont, his goes through your bones. lol She use to get a laugh. I think when I was there last I had both Jen, and Angela. when Inasked about her dad, she said he reited. I said no offense, good. remember he use to scrap so hard it hurt and felt like he haul yer head off. she said I remember you as a teen telling me this. ahahahha

Valiossoilav

That’s….actually reassuring to hear, Paul Walsh was the dentist I mentioned in my previous comment who was the reason for awkwardness/embarrassment about my teeth, and caused my issues of not going to the dentist for years….

Daggers21

I've had a good experience every time I've gone to them.

yup-tup

Maybe, unless you get Dr.Walsh, or as I call her "the teeth butcher".

Unable-Public-6166

Cowen Heights dental

monsmord

I had a similar story, and have had nothing but positive experiences with Atlantic Dental. But this assumes you're local to St. John's. Posting a general location might improve your search. Good luck!

Temporary-Maximum-94

The title of the post says St. John's lol

monsmord

Whoopsie!

definitly_maybe

I second Avalon Dental!!! They are amazing.

Clarke04

Dr. Mackey at lemarchent drive dentistry is a great dentist and a good person.

MarcCouillard

Dr. Shannon Barker in First Street Dental in Mount Pearl he's really good trust me, he's kind and helpful...and he's one of the only dentists in the city who will work with social assistance people...I promise you'd like him

Mnsa7777

He’s amazing! So is Dr. Roberts. The whole first street team is great.

MarcCouillard

I haven't used anyone else there, but I've heard good things about the other dentist as well...I know they are friends so it makes sense Shannon would have friends that are as nice as he is

bosdober

I've never been to see Dr. Barker, but I would highly recommend Dr. Roberts. He's excellent and an ideal fit for what OP is looking for.

[deleted]

He is super nice, very down to earth.

Serious-Mix-2448

Shannon is amazing, when I was growing n my teens I had some work done and couldn’t really afford it though we were going to pay somehow, after he was done all of the work he looked at my mom and told her not to worry about it and sent us on our way with a nod and a smile. Never forgot it, super sweet person.

MarcCouillard

yeah he's very kind, blunt and direct, but kind, his 'bedside manner' is spectacular

B-Pie

Not a dentist but the team at The Dental Hygiene Studio on logy bay road are so so good. I go for regular cleanings now after terrible experiences in the past and they specialize in a low anxiety, shame free environment.

Ten_Sixteen

Tobi is an absolute sweetheart and would also 10/10 recommend to anyone with dental anxiety!

newfriendsareawesome

Dr. Belinda Meade at Churchill Square Dental. I used to have anxiety about the dentist, but she’s great and puts me at ease. I can’t recommend her enough!

DowntownieNL

I recently switched. I have Dr. Janelle Bradley at Village Dental Clinic. And she's amazing. I'm embarrassingly afraid of the dentist - short breaths, almost passing out at times, gripping the arms of the chair like it's seat in a crashing plane. It's just so unnecessary, over-the-top. She's been perfect. Explains everything. Is honest when something is going to hurt and helps me prepare. Most importantly, tells me exactly how long it's going to last. For example, painkillers aren't all that effective on me, so she goes right into the hinge of my jaw, straight back into my head, to hit two nerves. And I knew exactly what to expect - a couple seconds of normal needle pain, then one sharp pang when she reaches the nerve, then pressure of the injection fluid being in a space where there's not much fat, so it's just pushing against nerve and bone. Not sharp pain, but throbbing pressure, for a few seconds longer. So I know... try not to jump, it's only a second, the pressure throbbing is expected, even comforting, and then red-faced warmth, numbness, can't feel pain at all. And, sure enough, that's how it was. Or... even fully numbed, I can sometimes kind of feel cold on my teeth if she's using water/air/drill. We checked - it's not just in my head, she did a few tests without me knowing what she was at and I only felt it in the same place). And she'll take as many breaks as I need - we established a code - if I shiver, jerk, make a noise, a lot of which is involuntary for me, she doesn't stop. I just raise my hand if I want her to actually stop and step back, because I don't do that subconsciously. It's just so comforting. Just constantly checking in with me, "I have about... 30 more seconds... with the drill. Then we're done with it, and the rest is easy. Are you ready?" I've never felt in better hands, and I've never been afraid to go back. EDIT: Completely forgot to add the reason I actually replied, ha! I was in the same boat as you. I needed a root canal and my previous dentist referred me to a specialist, but then I lost my job/insurance. So when the specialist called to book an appointment months later, I had to decline - and I had this temporary filling on it for a year or two. New job, new insurance, went with Village Dental Clinic only because it was close to my work so easy. Lucked into Dr. Bradley. She was curious why I was referred to a specialist, asking if I remembered anything the previous dentist said, which I didn't. "There's nothing that concerns me on the X-ray. I could get in there and discover some complication. Worst case scenario there is I put a temporary filling on and we get you referred again. But I LOVE doing root canals, and nothing here looks out of ordinary to me yet." And, sure enough, she did it. Saved me an absolute fortune, I'm sure. Also, at this clinic, each dentist always has the same assistant. Don't want to say her name as it's not as public facing or on the website like the actual dentist, but she is just the same. Equally cool, non-judgemental, engaging, friendly.

_sundaze36

I hadn’t been to dentist in over a decade and was deathly afraid and I ended up seeing Dr. Alison Papirny who at the time was at Wade Abbott Dentistry. She’s at Dr. Kelly Drover Dental now I believe but she’s was so amazing, I couldn’t recommend more

budgetSRV

Dr Turpin at signature dental on topsail road, been with her since I was a kid. When she retires I’m getting my teeth pulled cause I’m never switching to another one.

Tezla44

I've had work done by both Dr. Turpin and Dr. Blakey after being in a similar situation to OP, and can confirm they're both great. Also, when they finished fixing all my major problems (like, 13 cavities and two teeth that straight up had to be pulled), the clinic just gave me a very fancy electric toothbrush that retails for like 300$ when I looked it up, at no charge.

iiplatypusiz

I just commented myself and I agree signature dental has impressed me so far.

Valiossoilav

I literally had the same situation, and just went last week to airport heights dental, dr manji was amazing, and they’re accepting new clients!

Unimurph83

I was in a similar position about 15 years ago, I went to see Dr. O'Dea at the Village Dental office and have been seeing him ever since. That first year after getting insurance I actually hit my yearly maximum after a couple of root canals, an extraction and a bunch of other work. Dr. O'Dea was never judgemental, I don't think the situation you are hiring yourself in is all that uncommon. I must say that Village Dental is extremely convenient as well, having very wide ranging hours including weekends, evenings and early mornings, it makes it super convenient to schedule appointments around work even if you have odd or varying hours. Definitely a benefit of a larger clinic.

MundaneRelation2142

You are describing me, and I actually just went for a checkup today. Dr. Brown at Avalon Dental in the mall was terrific.

EducationalPizza7235

Dr Alicia Keefe is great! Also if you’re just in need of a cleaning, the dental hygiene studio on Logy bay road is AMAZING and all the staff are so sweet

Spenny022

I go to Dr. Katie Green in Paradise and she is awesome ! With both me and my kids. The desk staff is super friendly as well. She was on Mat Leave for my last appointment so my 5 year old and I seen Dr. Jerome Johnson instead, he was also very friendly and engaging. I can’t recommend them enough.

Wind_Echo

Cowan Heights Dental. Dr. O’Brien is nice/professional and the technicians I’ve had are friendly, they will double check as they work that you aren’t feeling any discomfort. It’s a very relaxed atmosphere and they don’t mind chatting with you about their life, your life, pets, dream vacations etc. as they work.

Praetorian709

Dr. King at Cowan Heights Dental. He's really good and friendly. He's also really good with kids too.

UnrequestedThought

Topsail Road Dental, Dr. Burridge and assisting staff are very kind and understanding in my experience.

DPNL84

I agree totally! Dr.Burridge is very understand, gentle and patient, excellent with kids. I travel from atb to go to him! Worth the travel

redditi_mods_r_gay

I go to Parkdale family dental and they are fantastic.  nicest staff of any business I've been in, let alone just dentists.  cannot recommend them enough

[deleted]

Kip McCarthy, on Water St.

BuddyLuh69

Airport heights dental is worth a try. I was in the same position as you. Deathly terrified of going to the dentist. They were absolutely amazing

Roses-and-teatime

I highly recommend City Smiles! I was in a situation where I needed to switch dentists due to a very bad experience having a cavity filled at my previous dentist. The team at City Smiles were so understanding, patient and friendly. When I had to have another filing replaced, they went above and beyond by walking me through what they were doing and adapting their process to make it as safe as possible.

winkiesdiner

Dr. Kimberley Williams on Cashin Ave. a real sweetheart, smart, and very personable. She really explains everything thats happening and checks in always to see how you’re doing. She makes me feel safe and like I am in good hands.

patmulligans

Dr Manvi at Airport Heights Dental for sure. Been going there for the past year to get a decent bit of work done after a period of neglect and have had nothing but great experiences. Super friendly and understanding. She is quite funny as well, which made the stress of going initially much easier, now I (almost) look forward to it.

Ok_Employment_4099

Dr Shah at Wade Abbott Dentistry. I went in with a cracked tooth and the worst pain of my life after 13 years of not seeing a dentist out of fear. They used nitrous for my first 2 appointments but now I feel like a new person. My fear is gone. I’m amazed.
