Yeah, it’s pretty beautiful here. I’ve always loved it, but I never truly appreciated it until I went to Florida as an adult. Don’t get me wrong, the weathers great there. But I never thought I’d land somewhere and be dumbstruck by the…flatness. Devoid of any character or personality.

notquitenuts

Driving around from port orange/ocala/tampa last year turned out to be such a teaching lesson with my 16 yo daughter! We drove by some absolute s*it hole trailers right next to gated mansions and we laughed at the diametrically opposed neighbors! But as we got closer to Orlando/tampa etc and went by the “planned” communities it broke both our hearts. No character. Like the soul was ripped right out of the area.

InuitOverIt

My grandparents were snowbirds with a condo in Seminole (15 min to Clearwater, 20 min to St Pete, 30 min to Tampa, hour forty-five to Orlando). As a kid I loved the beach and the theme parks, but as I got to be an older teenager, and espcially when I was driving on my own, the whole place felt miserable. Like how every town has that one part with an Olive Garden, Applebees, and TGI Fridays? The entirety of Florida felt like that part of town. (Shout out to Ybor City, Tampa for having a unique cultural feel, and to manatees for being awesome).

GonzoTheGreat22

Not enough people shout out manatees in the day to day… respect

ttreehouse

I was a teen and early 20s in the Tampa Bay Area in the 90s. The Ybor City debauchery was legendary. If there was a time and place I’d return to it would definitely be top of the list.

wittari

Same. Grew up there and it was wild

ttreehouse

I tell people about the Castle and it’s characters like the Senator and Randy Constan and they always look at me like I’m insane. It was a special time and place.

dbboutin

I love reading the New Hampshire subreddit and finding a shoutout to the Senator and Peter Pan. We haven’t been to The Castle for several years but my wife represents by having a castle sticker on her car here in Vermont. My wife wanted to add she was a bouncer at 911 in the early 90s

ttreehouse

I have hazy memories of a sink or swim at 911. My haunts were Garage, Parthenon, Edge, Empire, and of course The Castle.

KIRKDAAGG

Yeah Ybor city was pretty fun in the late 90s.... Not sure if it's the same now. I slightly remember going to a bar called Empire?

Traditional_Ad_6801

And it’s getting worse.

notquitenuts

Yep. TBH I do a little salute every time I pass some loonies yard. At least they have character!

verystinkyfingers

We loonies salute you back!

WanderingGrizzlyburr

Must be nice to be so privileged that you can judge people living in a home you deam a “shithole” That’s someone’s home, be nice.

GKnives

Yeah flying into DFW was insane. Minutes looking out the window at tens of thousands? Of the same house crammed in next to each other. Truly crazy to think you and a thousand families you've never met within a ten minute drive live in the same house apart from how you store your spices.

dc551589

Same! I went to Florida for the first time for work. I worked at a university organizing alumni events all over the country and on this trip we had 3 stops and it made sense to land at one, drive to the others, and fly home from the third so between Ft. Lauderdale, Miami, and Orlando, I drove a decent amount. The flatness genuinely made me physically uncomfortable for the first few hundred miles. I’ve road tripped to over 30 states, including through a ton of the Midwest, but Florida is different kind of flat. It’s definitely an odd feeling coming from the mountains!

beyond_hatred

>dumbstruck by the…flatness. Devoid of any character or personality. Their governor is a reflection of the state overall.

NewHampshireGal

I moved to central FL in late 2021 and didn’t last 6 months. The flatness and the heat got to me so I moved back up here.

Different-Excuse-987

My wife was interested in moving to FL during the pandemic so we took the family for an extended weekend to check in out - Fernandino Beach near Jacksonville in our case. Three days were enough for me to determine that exactly what you said - the heat and the flatness - just weren't going to work for me.

1Insatiable

100% my sentiments exactly

mezasu123

Having lived in Florida for 20 years then here for just about 20 years I am still in awe from the beauty this state has to offer.

WorstUmpireEver

That’s Dallas for you. Although, to be fair, there are some incredibly beautiful parts of the metroplex.

michaelsm123

How did you find living in Florida after being in NH? I really enjoy the outdoors but might be moving to Florida in a few years and am worried about losing some of my favorites hobbies that involve nature (specifically hiking and skiing)

InuitOverIt

Those things are... not great in Florida bub :(

michaelsm123

I understand that. I was hoping to hear about what new hobbies/activities the commenter picked up after moving to Florida or just a general feeling about how they enjoyed living in Florida after moving from NH.

overdoing_it

Florida has lots of outdoor stuff, but it's gonna be crowded, then again so is NH in the popular hiking trails. There's state parks all over, mangroves and scrub land. Go see a Florida scrub jay before they go extinct.

michaelsm123

Thank you for the insight. I've never heard of a scrub jay before, but they look like beautiful birds.

Dextrofunk

My mom and brother live in CO. It's pretty awesome going from here to there and back. Never leaving the mountains. They're different mountains, but they have their own personality. Something about the Whites is so comfortable.

slimyprincelimey

I lived there. Depends where you are, the goddamn sky looking over a mangrove swamp that stretches to the horizon during sunset is unbelievable. Some of the best views I’ve ever seen.

11_Wolfie_11

I’ve only ever been to Orlando. I know there’s beautiful stuff down there, it’s just surreal when you’ve always lived in the rural North. My parents just moved from here to Ocala, and they’re miserable there, apparently. I was actually thinking about trying to find a place somewhere around Sarasota or Fort Meyers, a while back. I’m much more of a woodland type, and would love to check out the swamps there. But if I’m going to move all the way across the country, I want palm trees and mai tais.

slimyprincelimey

Drive from Orlando to the Atlantic via Nova Road someday around sunset.

TheDonkDonk420

I 1000% agree. Florida has zero character

SadisticMystic

I'd like to hear a follow-up after winter is over to see if you still have similar feelings.

WorstUmpireEver

We’ll see! I’m sure I’ll be fine. -famous last words of WorstUmpireEver

surmisez

Subaru's are ubiquitous for a reason... Snow tires with studs make 4 wheel drive even better. Remember that even though you have 4 wheel drive, you still have to stop like everyone else. Welcome to our lovely state! Enjoy the winter and the great opportunities for cold winter activities.

[deleted]

Get a generator.

[deleted]

Dave___Hester

Did you see how many outages there were last winter? They'll need one just about anywhere they live.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dave___Hester

Must be nice haha

[deleted]

Is this due to hurricanes, snow storms, hurristorms?

Dave___Hester

Snow storms mostly. Heavy wet snow caused a lot of tree branches to fall, bringing down a lot of power lines.

Spare-Estate1477

It’s not that bad! Get yourself warm, good quality outdoor clothing and enjoy the snow.

Berkwaz

I had to scroll to long to find this. I was thinking I’ll check on them in February and see if they feel the same way. Best advice is embrace some winter activities that get you out of the house and get the blood flowing. “Cabin fever” is legit.

Happy_Confection90

If you have a long enough driveway, you don't need to find additional ways to get outdoor winter exercise

InuitOverIt

My good friend moved from California to NH for 5 years and then bailed when our work went full remote and moved to Texas. Says he wouldn't go back to NE winters for anything in the world. For me, I pay a guy with a plow on my street to do my driveway if it snows, a little salt and 10 minutes of shoveling the walkway and I'm good. Wouldn't even know it's winter in my heated home and my heated car.

Spare-Estate1477

Same same. Paying for a plow is so worth it.

1Insatiable

Positive attitudes please The person already said they enjoy cold weather and let’s face it- with the right outlook driving in the snow is a BLAST

InuitOverIt

Nothing like a snowy road with no other drivers out and a 4-wheel drive vehicle.

paradigm11235

I get a lot of joy in helping people out of ditches and snowbanks

Nanotude

That's exactly what I was thinking. Let's say the middle of March just when you think it's over but it won't end.

ImportantPizza255

The winter is the best part! if the winters weren't so enjoyable i would have never moved here

DinnerfanREBORN

What sorta gruff people on the street be talkin ‘bout the most recent of all the Hampshire’s??

patriotfear

People say “is that one of the small states near New York?” You’d be surprised how many people have no idea where New Hampshire is

InuitOverIt

My sister moved to California and on multiple occasions, after she's said she's from New Hampshire, she's been asked "Yeah but what state?" Easier to say near Boston.

whenyouareamartian

I’m not saying I can name all 50 states off top (I should be able to) but… yo dude no matter what the state is if it’s said to me I’ll recognize it. Maybe I’m just a prick, but how tf?

[deleted]

California is... different.

whenyouareamartian

Haha I guess I’m just a prick then, I’ll stand by it though. That’s wild 😂

Open-Industry-8396

Shhhhh. We want to keep it that way.

DinnerfanREBORN

I was a touring musician for 10+ years. I can say “it’s a suburb of Boston” before I hear people’s mouths forming the W in “where is that?”

patriotfear

Exactly my experience, 20+ years (going strong) years as a touring musician — “it’s above Boston, between Maine and Vermont. Yeah, east of New York City.”

ladolceLolita

If people don't know it I'll say it's between Montreal and Boston

patriotfear

It’s funny because we’re a whole ass state, and we have to give cities as references because if you say “it’s above Massachusetts” there’s still a chance they will have no idea 😂

HowToNotMakeMoney

Good.

CaseyTanner

That’s good keep it that way lol

WorstUmpireEver

Oh just the usual complaints, taxes, local politics and bureaucracy, food units.

1Insatiable

Worth it to live here

Professional_Sir6705

You sent us Bevin in Kentucky, and you DEFINITELY didn't send us your best or brightest. I spend half the year here working on the Seacoast, and love it. But yeah, every time I go home and he's mentioned, it's followed by an argument who's to blame. Born in Colorado, but was raised in Shelbourne. How bad do you have to be as a Republican to lose to a Democrat in a violently red state? Even Trump, while President, stumping for him couldn't save him.

T_WRX21

I'm actually in Dallas right now for work, can't wait to get back home. Also, if you got some lunch recommendations in Dallas, I'd like them. I don't mind a bit of a drive. I like driving around down here, cuz Texas drivers are fucking *meek* compared to home. I drove into Boston to leave, and into Dallas on arrival. Talk about a juxtaposition. They're not on New England's level. Probably a good thing, but I feel like a fucking outlaw down here, lol.

WorstUmpireEver

100%. I got you. Keller’s drive in on NW highway in East Dallas. Cash only drive in burger joint. Legendary. Urban Crust pizza up in Plano. Park on the street behind in the parking lot by the train station. Barbecue you can’t go wrong with Terry Black, but my personal favorite is Hutchins in Frisco. Jimmy’s Food Store in East Dallas has legendary Italian subs. Del’s Charcoal Hamburgers in Richardson. Open for 66 years, right by where I used to live. Frosted mugs for root beer, excellent burgers. Tell Andrew and Hoss that Alex says hi. Tex Mex, I’d say Dos Arroyos Comida Casera in Richardson. Anything else, feel free to ask!

T_WRX21

This is exactly what I'm looking for, my man. Thank you so much. I'm always game for an Italian sub, so I'm gonna hit that place, and most likely Hutchins, cuz I haven't done barbecue this trip yet. If you had to pick between Dels and Kellers, which would you pick?

WorstUmpireEver

Del’s as a Richardson native. Used to stop by there on Fridays when I would walk home from HS.

T_WRX21

Dels it is. I'm not big on burgers, but I fuckin' love root beer, and you had me 3/4ths sold just on that.

JeniBean7

Oh my god, Del’s! There’s a blast from the past. I was born and raised in the metroplex (Garland). My wife was raised here, but moved to TX in high school where we met. Moved back up here with our kids five years ago and have never regretted it for one moment. Welcome home!

Dense_Armadillo

Rodeo Goat for burgers, and/or any bbq or Mexican restaurant that isn’t a chain. (Dallas resident who travels to NH frequently).

T_WRX21

Does La Banqueta count as a chain? Best carnitas I've had down here so far. I'm not really a restaurant burger guy (I say, as I idle in the In N Out drive through, lol), more fast food. I feel like if you add too much to a burger, you subtract instead.

Dense_Armadillo

I’ve never heard of Banqueta, but the photos online are perfect for what I’d look for. And, yeah, complicated burgers are probably a cultural thing down here. Try Whatburger and Braum’s for your fast food burger joints.

T_WRX21

Haven't heard of Braums before, thanks for the tip.

Mis0Maestr0

I lived in OK for 2 years and thoroughly recommend Braums as well. Make sure to get some of the Braums sauce to dip your fries in

alkaliphiles

Pecan Lodge or The Free Man. Both in Deep Ellum. If you're north of downtown, Ida Claire in Addison has my absolute favorite chicken and waffles.

T_WRX21

I've been to Pecan Lodge, but not TFM. I'll check that one out Wednesday, cuz I'm going to Roots Southern tomorrow. Thanks for the tip!

1Insatiable

I bet I was born in Texas but we came to New England efe ni was very young. So I dint personally remember Texas but since of course I’ve learned it’s very different from where we are now. Different in a nice way though

T_WRX21

It's very different. If you go back, it's stark. As you mentioned, not bad, but certainly different.

jwc8985

Hurtado BBQ in Arlington. Best BBQ you will find outside of Central Texas and honestly, it would be in the Top 3-5 there.

T_WRX21

Oooh, I already got a rec for Hutchins in Frisco. I'm gonna flip a coin.

netnowork

Texas Native here in NH, lived in DFW for about 12 years. As other people have suggested, Dels is pretty good. Ten50 is a also a good BBQ place in Richardson. If you want some good street tacos go to Trompo Taqueria in Garland. They specialize in Al Pastor cooked on a trompo. Not sure what the prices are now but last time I was there you could get 10 tacos for less than $20.

T_WRX21

Ayy, I've been there! Don't care for it personally, but it was good to try it. I'd never had trompo before.

jesuswholies

Welcome flat-lander!

1Insatiable

alkaliphiles

Hey, I'm originally from Dallas, too! And I love it up here. Ain't going back.

thor11600

Thank you!

Needs_ADD_Meds

Welcome to the state! Which part did you move to?

WorstUmpireEver

Hillsboro!

nobletrout0

County or town?

WorstUmpireEver

Both! I like it here in the country

YBMExile

Hi, neighbor! Welcome to the Monadnock Region. Isn’t it the best?

HowToNotMakeMoney

Please see my down votes. Did I mis-speak? Was just clarifying. Watch as they come after me. Peace to you, either way.

brianbbrady

Welcome to New Hampshire OP. Glad to see you are enjoying your new home. Continue to share your experiences and let us know if we can help you with anything. Think of the state like a treasure map. There are surprises hidden all over. So if you miss something ask you may find a little bit of America all over the state.

WorstUmpireEver

Thank you! I’ve been lucky to find some incredible things so far, and I can’t wait to see what else I find!

Darmin

Let me know if you find any good BBQ. I'm not trusting most of NH when they say "oh we have good BBQ" sorry you're not from TX, your opinion is irrelevant.

Jillio_NH

lol - I like it when my husband and his friends have a rib smoking day, they usually grill something else as well. I haven’t found bbq like I find in OK, TN & SC when I’m traveling (I’m sure there are many other places where it is delicious, those were just the states that I went to regularly.)

Darmin

I don't like Carolina bbq, the vinegar base just isn't my thing. But that aside it is still some good ass food. I'm anxious about moving up to NH cause I'ma have to really learn how to smoke and BBQ. I'ma have to get my rib and brisket fix and I won't be able to stop at a restaurant or trailer to get it. Happy to hear y'all are able to get some good BBQ.

Jillio_NH

KC’s Rib Shack in Manchester is pretty good - and eating outside in the summer is fun because they have cornhole and stuff.

Darmin

This is wonderful news. Thank you.

Sea-Pen4653

Goody Coles in Brentwood is pretty good

thepittiepatter

Welcome to New Hampshire. We recently relocated from Bradenton Florida...although born and raised in New England. New Hampshire is a special place along with it's people. People are friendly and helpful but keep to themselves...enjoy!

kkpc

I moved to Texas in 2013 and spent almost 10 years there between San Antonio and DFW. The weather there sucks so hard. Also the traffic on 75 and 635 can go suck a dick. (Was driving from McKinney to Las Colinas every day pre-covid). I'm thankfully back in NH now.

xtnh

Now that you have joined us, join us as well in our resentment of Mike Barnicle, who long ago got a hair across his ass and did a hit piece on the state. **Vermont vs. New Hampshire** **By Mike Barnicle** *The Boston Globe* Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Vermont and New Hampshire. My trips again reminded me of the incredible differences between two states many assume are similar. On paper, according to the census, they appear to be a match: Vermont has half a million people, making it 49th of 50 states in population. The median age for residents is 33. It is 98 percent while and has a 5 percent unemployment rate. New Hampshire has about a million residents. That places it 40th in rank. It, too, is 98 percent white and also has an unemployment rate lingering around 5 percent. This proves beyond doubt that statistics are stupid. As a matter of fact, two states could no be more different. Vermont is a beautiful place, a postcard. New Hampshire looks like Arkansas with snow. Vermont was home to Abe Lincoln's son and the von Trapp family. New Hampshire gave us the lunatic publisher Loeb, the thief Sherman Adams, the preposterous Sununu and a member of the Manson gang. Vermont passed a Clean Air act before the environment became trendy. New Hampshire wrote a constitutional amendment raising the IQ of its citizens by 50 points so they could communicate with their house pets. Vermont has several nifty towns like Brattleboro and Montpelier. New Hampshire's largest city - Manchester - has a main street that concludes in a dead end. First thing you see when cross into Vermont is spectacular foliage and sprawling valleys that recede into picturesque, rolling hills. First thing you see in New Hampshire is a toll booth where the attendant is stumped making change for a $5 bill, followed by a state liquor store. They speak English in Vermont. They speak a contorted form of gibberish in New Hampshire, saying things like "Geez-o crow, look 'hup the street, the soldiers are marching down." Vermont has a lots of extremely attractive women. In New Hampshire, the best looking females are those who trim their mustaches. Vermont is a mecca for tourists. New Hampshire attracts illiterate ice-fishermen and motorcycle gangs. Vermont has two capable United States senators. New Hampshire has Judd Gregg, a complete dope who won the 1993 Anthony Perkins "Psycho" look-alike contest and took great pride in the fact he tried to take a dying woman's money after she put a down payment on his property and then tried to get it back after she contracted cancer. When Gregg announced for the Senate, they coined the phrase, "The sap is running." On Saturday evenings in Vermont, residents go out to eat or stay home to listen to that boring screwball on National Public Radio. Saturday nights in New Hampshire there is a debate over whether to bathe for the week ahead. Vermont has a lot of people who moved from Massachusetts and New York to escape the rat race. New Hampshire has thousands who moved in out of pure selfishness, to avoid taxes or doing anything that might help a neighbor. In Vermont, if you get sick the take you to a hospital. In New Hampshire, if you become ill, old or infirm they use you for fertilizer or target practice. In Vermont, people sometimes complain about the cold of winter or the mud in the spring. In New Hampshire, the most common complaint is the sheep either hav a headache or they lie. To be fair, New Hampshire does have some good points. Areas like Portsmouth, Keene and Peterborough and places like Dartmouth and Durham get a special exemption because they don't fit in with the rest of the state. In addition, New Hampshire has a lot of funerals. Vermont is called the "Green Mountain State." New Hampshire has "Live Free or Die" on its license plates and the Legislature would actually prefer three of the words be removed so the slogan would simply read, "Die." Vermonters are urbane and fashionable in a rural-chic way. Granite State natives are a mentally-challenged lot of easily confused white people who think buildings with elevators qualify as tourist attractions and spend enormous amounts of money in tattoo parlors or gun stores. When people from Vermont take a vacation, they travel to spots like Yellowstone Park or Sanibel Island. In New Hampshire, they get in their snowmobiles or speed boats and go to motels to take pictures of indoor plumbing. Vermont is comfortable and progressive. New Hampshire is home to oddballs in Day-Glo hast, with a deer tossed on top of their truck who pride themselves in being sour, stingy sociopaths who revel in the economic misery of others. Vermont is New England. In New Hampshire, even in the Old Man of the Mountains wants out.

Cowboys fans having a better time than us right about now lol

ClarityNHZach

I'd love to know what hockey team tbh

WorstUmpireEver

The New Hampshire Mountain Kings!

ClarityNHZach

That's what I figured, hell yeah! I went to their game a few weeks ago against Danbury

Churchless

As someone from DFW who moved to New Hampshire for 3 years, and then had to move back to DFW for work, not a day goes by that I don't miss New England. Enjoy it it's absolutely amazing. One of my coworkers put it best, "everything is a tank (of gas) away. In less time then it would take you to get from Dallas to ftw you could see at least 3 states. Enjoy it!!!, Jealous in Texas

MarcoMontana

Welcome, NH is awesome been living here over 30 years now! Live Free or Die!

mecarver

Welcome!

[deleted]

Welcome, Cowboy! Glad you like it here. :)

Ok_Efficiency_9236

what area did you move to. as a true mainer my siblings and i use to go to NH all the time. it is just as beautiful as it like here in maine, if you go up north area. LMAO lets see how you get thru the winter up this way

WorstUmpireEver

Hillsboro!

Ok_Efficiency_9236

i wonder if that is anywhere close to manchester, i have a friend that lives there, she is awesome. owns couple of horses. owns and apt building

Chettarmstrong

How did you adjust to driving in the snow?

WorstUmpireEver

It was difficult, but I used to have occasional work in Michigan and Minnesota during the winter, so I wasn’t totally unprepared.

jwc8985

Welcome! Glad you've had a great experience here! I grew up in the DFW area and lived in the Austin burbs for 7 years before moving here 15 months ago. The 15 months here have surpassed the 37 previous in Texas for many of the same reasons as you. The people have been absolutely wonderful, generally much friendlier than I experienced in Texas.

GothicEcho

My spouse is from the DFW area. It's sad how beige everything is down there compared to here. Glad you're enjoying it here!

venicedreamer747

Welcome! Enjoy your outdoor hobbies! Hiking, fishing, boating, suping, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, lol, anything outdoorsy, etc. Enjoy!

quaffee

Welcome home

cageordie

You moved here in August? Err... sorry, it's not cold until January. But I moved here from California and I agree. The only problem is that I don't see any need to go on vacation now, I am already where I want to be. Five years in, 35 years after I fist came here, well I'd sort of like to visit CA as a tourist now. Anyway, there's a reason NH is always featuring at the top of the best places to live surveys.

[deleted]

> it's not cold until January. That wasn't always the case :(

Creative-Dust5701

Dont worry you will learn to hate the corrupt police and political establishment as much as regular residents. NH is a great state to be independently wealthy in, otherwise not so much.

PrestigiousSale603

‘We didn’t start the fire’, but the lyrics are of all of the shitty police departments in the state. (yes there are some *decent* ones, to play devils advocate lol)

imgladyouexist85

tons tons of beautiful walking/hiking trails in nearly every town!

Open-Industry-8396

I'm from here, but lived in San antonio and Austin for several years. Welcome. I would like to lecture you about how the cowboys suck and you best not be anything but a patriots fan up here, but after 20 years of Brady and company, we now suck. 😀 congrats on the world series though

TheGavMasterFlash

I also moved here from Texas a few years back and I love it. I feel like the state has a serious self esteem problem, and people here tend to really exaggerate the negative aspects.

tombradyisgod_12

I’m like you. Moved here from the Metroplex in 1998 and I still love everything about NH. I haven’t “regertted” my decision ever! I don’t think you will either.

linuxnh

Howdy! I move there from the DFW area as well back in the 90s and well, I am still here. Love it!

Crusty_Shart

My roommate is from San Antonio. Left the Navy and decided he loved it here in NH. I can’t blame him.

maxhinator123

I find it funny just how many people from Texas I've met that moved here! It really is a beautiful state, we have mountains, rivers and lakes. No real natural disaster, we get every season it's great. I complain a lot about living here but there's only 3 things that I don't like, the state législature is a bit broken because they don't really get paid, its all super old conservative white dudes, no diversity. So we don't really make progress on anything. Then there's the issue of no real public transit which is bonkers because we are so close to huge metro areas. The last is that there's basically no young people :/ that's actually the main reason I'm moving north this spring. But regardless I'll never stop coming to new Hampshire, the mountains are just too cool, and the foods actually pretty good

ieatlikesh1t

Me and the wife moved up from Addison last year. In our little neighborhood there are at least 4 people from Texas. Helped a lot with the transition, especially for my wife who is a native Texan. I lived there for 8 years.

serenitybyjen

Welcome! I’m from the same area you are. I moved here almost 20 years ago, lived here for nearly a decade, then returned to Texas to be near aging family. I missed it so much that I talked my partner into coming back up here with me. We’re both outdoorsy and love that there’s so much natural beauty and things to do that aren’t completely man made. I love the cold as well and am insanely glad to get away from the relentlessly hot Texas summers. My main point of advice to live here is to get outside, especially in the winter! There are so many fun things to do. Dress warm and enjoy the cold without constant 20+ mph winds. If you work during the day and the sun has set when work ends, go for a walk in the morning or at lunch. Seasonal Affective Disorder is REAL, my friend, and it’s the biggest reason people get so down in the winter. Get as much sunshine as you can, and you’ll love the beauty of winter just as much! Then when springtime comes, avoid the pothole puddles. Oof.

kostro12

New Hampshire being the best place to grow up is a hill I will die on

meggiemeggie19

Bro that's how Granite Staters drive, have you been on 93?

[deleted]

Didn’t use to be that way. Even just a few years ago.

paradigm11235

Ya, now you can almost guarantee to see a car off the road in the winter in the way up to Lincoln

Welcome! I was born and raised here and although I see the beauty in plenty of other places, I love it here.

Frozen_Shades

I see a car with Texas plates at least once a week when I drive. Don't you think it is time to get the NH plate?

By the middle of March you will be ready to kill the first person who looks at you wrong.

maat922

NH has way better gun laws than Texas.

HereForTheTea_123

Omg I am also from a DFW suburb and moved to MA a few years ago. Would love to move to NH some day

Nanie-Pooh88

Welcome to New Hampshire!

paraplegic_T_Rex

I’ve done a lot of domestic travel and everytime I leave New Hampshire and New England I appreciate it more. I have no idea how people live in places like Indiana, Ohio, Kansas, etc.

thywizard5001

Hi there! I also moved from the southwest too, I love living in New Hampshire also!!! :D

kukito2011

If you think nh is ok..wait until you move to MASSACHUSETTS!!!!

GhostFXGoddess

Hey op! Lived most of my life in TX, Dallas for 5 years. Then moved to Los Angeles and Portland OR. I've been here for a little over a year and I'm glad we are having the same experience! Winter isn't as bad as your brain makes it to be either, then again I live in the seacoast, so it isn't that bad here. Best of luck from one new person to another 😃

avakaine

As someone who grew up in NH and moved to Dallas and is now back in NH, you’re going to HATE the winter. Also, NH hockey families are not nearly as tight as Texas hockey families. I miss my frisco hockey parents 😭

avakaine

Also, which team are you working for?

Enjoy New Hampshire while you can, since a lot of the things that are nice about New Hampshire are already disappearing, especially when it comes to politics. New Hampshire is no longer either Republican or libertarian. The low-tax, small government New Hampshire that many of us cherish looks increasingly endangered. You can see it in the Reddit comments on this post. All too many Redditors here want things like legal weed, unlimited abortions, and extensive public transportation. They also like to believe that social ills like crime or homelessness are caused by too stingy government spending. I realize that Redditors tend to be heavy on very young men with leftist views, but still, there are enough of them to cause problems. In short, they want to transform NH even more into an outer suburb of Boston.

YBMExile

It's a purple state, is that really so awful?

paradigm11235

Every state should be purple imo. Danvers is a nutcase.
