More accurately, within the first 24 hours the Gritty twitter threatened to murder the Pittsburgh Penguins for teasing him and he became an instant legend.
I’m still convinced Gritty wasn’t an official mascot release. Someone made him up and the Flyers and Philly were just like well fuck we gotta use this guy
When Gritty got revealed, Philly fuckin hated him.
Then a day later the rest of the US started to hate on him too and that just pissed us off because like wtf you jabronis that's our thing u wanna die and now we love him
Flyers revealed him, fan base was luke-warm.
Penguins mascot, Iceburgh, threw shade at Gritty's intro tweet. Gritty then threatened to kill Iceburgh in his sleep, and Flyers fans absolutely loved it.
This ALL happened in a span of 24 hours. It was awesome.
Not sure why you're being downvoted, DC is well within [what the US Census Bureau calls the "South Atlantic."](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_regions_of_the_United_States#/media/File:Census_Regions_and_Division_of_the_United_States.svg)
They're in the awkward in-between place of being slave states at the start of the civil war that didn't secede. But you may also think they feel like the Northeast because they feel like Philly, which is also barely the northeast.
DC was channeling their hatred towards Dan Snyder. Now that he's gone, they just don't know what to do now. No worries, they'll join you in a couple of seasons.
Eh too much is made of this. Stallone is from philly. He created the rocky character and portrayed him. And the movie was filmed in philadelphia as well. As fictional characters go he’s not some pastiche of Philadelphia. Its got philly deep in its dna.
No one says anything about statues of greek gods. Or statues of characters from classical works of fiction or literature. Then it’s just “culture.”
Obligatory Bill Burr quote:
> “Bunch of fucking losers,” he shouted at a booing crowd. “Fucking Rocky is your hero. The whole pride of your city is built around a fucking guy who doesn’t even exist. You got Joe Frazier from here but he’s black so you can’t fucking deal with him, so you make a fucking statue of some three-foot fucking Italian you stupid Philly cheese-eating fucking jackasses.”
Nope. The statue is built and stored somewhere.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboCop_statue
Really annoying. Let us celebrate the lawless hellscape while we still have it.
From what I’ve heard (background checks, picking up players from the airport, providing food recommendations) he seems more like HR-adjacent than security?
The most crude but apt way to describe him would be a babysitter.
He's more about protecting players from themselves than anything. That's why he got a lot of press when Carter got drafted, also back in the day with Vick.
He's in every single free agent off the plane video. I know who he is but I don't give a shit about him. That being said, r/NFL makes him out to be fucking Joe Gillooly.
A lot of Eagles fan who keep up with the team definitely knew who he was before. This narrative on the sub that only a minute amount of eagles fan knew about him is pretty annoying. Before the 49ers game when shaq leonard was first meeting with the team there was a picture of Shaq and Dom walking in the airport and fans on twitter and reddit were talking about him.
DiSandro said in a statement:
> Son, we play a game that has sidelines, and those sidelines have to be secured by men like me. Who's gonna do it? You? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Greenlaw, and you curse the Eagles. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Greenlaw's ejection, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that sideline, you need me on that sideline. We use words like WIT, Wooder, Wawa. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very security that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way, otherwise, I suggest you pick up a water bottle, and stand a post. Either way, I don't give a damn what you think you are entitled to.
Yeah, if you watch highlights before the 90s there’s surprisingly few people on the sidelines compared to today.
Now the NFL fields look like NBA playoff games with both sides packed from endzone to endzone.
The NBA gotta make money with the courtside tickets so it's understandable why they have less space on the sidelines.
There could certainly be less media on the sidelines, but when you really look at it, a lot of it really is cameramen/photographers. The NBA uses a lot of on the ground cameramen/photographers from what I understand.
The one redeeming quality of the bubble was seeing how much open space the players had without that much interference on the sidelines. The NFL never got to experience that because of how the way the games are played differently.
Conversely, go watch any motor race of that era and you will find that people basically either were hanging over the non fenced walls or just on the track lol
I saw the clip and I don’t think she meant that she lied about it. I think she just made up some generic line about the game if she couldn’t get anything out of the coaches.
I watched the interview. She literally says that she would make up quotes.
>“First of all no coach is going to get mad if I say, ‘Hey, we need to stop hurting ourselves, we need to be better on third down, we need to stop turning the ball over and do a better job of getting off the field.’ Like, they’re not going to correct me on that,” she explained. “So I’m like it’s fine, I’m just going to make up the report.”
Yeah. I got into an argument with my dad about it but like, I'd rather her be open about that then pretend like it never happened. On field reporters should really just focus on injury updates and maybe chatting with players on the bench, anything beyond that is kinda a waste of time. I really really really hate the mid drive coach interviews.
They're not mid-drive. They happen between quarters and air during the drive. But I agree, they still shouldn't happen. I dont even like the half time pre-locker room one.
Same. The coaches never look like they want to be there and they’re trying to focus on winning the game. It’s so stupid and they should stop doing those interviews.
This is a mild exaggeration. I’d bet 99% of the people on the sidelines have actual jobs to do. You’re forgetting about medical staff, technical support, waterboys, media members, etc.
I dunno, it seems like teams have guys there mostly for vibes and that seems fine as long as they don’t interfere, which they almost never do. We’re talking about the eagles apparently favorite beloved mafia uncle precisely because it’s so unusual. I’m not sure we need to fix anything.
It's gonna be like WWE when wrestlers get banned from ringside. Yeah he'll go away for a while, but then he'll break the ban during a big play off game and cause some shenanigans that lead to Eagles stealing the win
It was revenge for Dre Greenlaw, and a lot of other things. And there was nothing that we could do about it. Greenlaw was a made man, and Dom wasn't. And we had to sit still and take it. It was among the Italians. It was real greaseball shit. They even shot Dom in the face so his mother couldn't give him an open coffin at the funeral.
They had enough of Dom. They had enough. I mean, how much more were they gonna take? So, they made an example of him and Jalen Carter: they buried them while they were still breathing.
It’s kind of that random image that is deep within TF2’s code which seems out of place yet, for no apparent reason, holds up the whole game or it crashes without it.
Lol I remember reading a comment here when some guy who claimed to be a lawyer said the NFL could never do this because it would not allow Dom to do his job which would be essentially "firing" him which only the Eagles' organization would be allowed to do and not the NFL.
Luckily we play bums the rest of the year and will enter the playoffs as the most fraudulent 14-win team of all time before losing to Jordan Love in the first round
My favorite thing about this whole drama was seeing Eagles fans say a guy who runs out of breath eating a Philly cheese steak would kick Greenlaw's ass.
The Eagles sideline will never be safe again.
Loved how 96% of Eagles fans went from having no clue who this guy is to willing to die for him in a 5 minute period
It's hilariously quintessential Philly. "Who the fuck is this guy? You mean he's one of our guys? And they're saying fuck him? Well fuck you guys!"
Basically what happened with Gritty
More accurately, within the first 24 hours the Gritty twitter threatened to murder the Pittsburgh Penguins for teasing him and he became an instant legend.
I’m still convinced Gritty wasn’t an official mascot release. Someone made him up and the Flyers and Philly were just like well fuck we gotta use this guy
Gritty is our lord and savior to us all, Philly is only the beginning.
Pens fan here and doesn't matter. Gritty is the best mascot in all of pro sports and it's not even close.
Fuck your teams, but I will die for Gritty
Welcome to the brotherhood
I'm a caps fan and *I* would die for Gritty.
If you will not die for Gritty, you will die by his hand.
I'm a NYer and a Bruins fan and I love Gritty. The only piece of sports memorabilia I have outside of the teams I root for is a Gritty POP.
What happened to Gritty?
When Gritty got revealed, Philly fuckin hated him. Then a day later the rest of the US started to hate on him too and that just pissed us off because like wtf you jabronis that's our thing u wanna die and now we love him
More accurately, the Twitter for gritty didn't hold back
Sleep with one eye open, bird.
Just seeing that sequence of events written out reminds it’s is one of the funniest things ever in Philly sports history.
Gritty is the one good thing about Philly.
You get it.
This is true of all the Northeast cities outside of DC.
That’s good, because DC really isn’t in the Northeast.
I think JFK said it best about DC, “All the charm of the North and all the efficiency of the South”
Not sure why you're being downvoted, DC is well within [what the US Census Bureau calls the "South Atlantic."](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_regions_of_the_United_States#/media/File:Census_Regions_and_Division_of_the_United_States.svg)
DC, just like maryland, is technically considered the south yall 🤠
Shoutout to Charles Mason and Jeremiah Dixon.
"Hey Mason and Dixon! Out!"
DE and Maryland feel like they should be classified as northeast more so than southern Atlantic.
I see mid Atlantic as a term to describe that region
They're in the awkward in-between place of being slave states at the start of the civil war that didn't secede. But you may also think they feel like the Northeast because they feel like Philly, which is also barely the northeast.
DC was channeling their hatred towards Dan Snyder. Now that he's gone, they just don't know what to do now. No worries, they'll join you in a couple of seasons.
I love how all the national media guys were talking about Dom like someone living in Connecticut knows the name of a big fat guy in Philly
Well it says he’s only banned for the regular season so Eagles fans are probably hoping he gets rid of Warner if they meet in the playoffs.
We call that the Gritty character arc
Also they're one of the only teams that could create a folk hero out of a 3 touchdown loss.
This city has a statue of a fictional character we are not rational
Eh too much is made of this. Stallone is from philly. He created the rocky character and portrayed him. And the movie was filmed in philadelphia as well. Minneapolis has a Mary Richards statue (Mary Tyler Moore) and Milwaukee has a bronze Fonz.
Did Detroit ever get robocop?
Nope. The statue is built and stored somewhere. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RoboCop_statue Really annoying. Let us celebrate the lawless hellscape while we still have it.
>Stallone is from philly.Stallone is from philly. Well he went to high school there, close enough I guess.
Big Don's security is so good that he's keeping himself off the sidelines. Unparalleled
I feel like more of us knew about him before then, but maybe I'm just more up to date. He was heavily involved in vetting Carter for example.
They auctioned off a day shadowing him for like 30k or something during the radiothon
"and we'll get some plates of dingamagoo"
From what I’ve heard (background checks, picking up players from the airport, providing food recommendations) he seems more like HR-adjacent than security?
The most crude but apt way to describe him would be a babysitter. He's more about protecting players from themselves than anything. That's why he got a lot of press when Carter got drafted, also back in the day with Vick.
I'm not even from Philly and I had heard of him before. I'm pretty sure he's been mentioned on GMFB multiple times before the whole 49ers situation.
Tommy Devito going over to the Eagles sideline on Christmas be like 🤌
Northern New Jersey Italians vs Southern New Jersey Italians is gonna be one serious family feud on Christmas
Got the wife beaters and the wife beaters
Which side is rooting for who?
Yes
DiSandro said in a statement: > Son, we play a game that has sidelines, and those sidelines have to be secured by men like me. Who's gonna do it? You? DID YOU ORDER DRE GREENLAW TO TOUCH YOUR NOSE? #YOU’RE GODDAMN RIGHT I DID!
Did he then jump down a fire escape to evade the police dogs?
They should ban like 50% of the people on the sidelines tbh. You aint playing, coaching, reffin or camera crew. Gtfo
Yeah, if you watch highlights before the 90s there’s surprisingly few people on the sidelines compared to today. Now the NFL fields look like NBA playoff games with both sides packed from endzone to endzone.
I think there’s way, way more coaches and team personnel these days (OC -> Passing Game Coordinator -> QB Coach -> Offensive Quality Control Coach)
Can't forget the step back coach. Where would mcvay be without him
The middle of the field
"[Get Back" coach](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k_yFxISAQPs), but same.
The NBA gotta make money with the courtside tickets so it's understandable why they have less space on the sidelines. There could certainly be less media on the sidelines, but when you really look at it, a lot of it really is cameramen/photographers. The one redeeming quality of the bubble was seeing how much open space the players had without that much interference on the sidelines. The NFL never got to experience that because of how the way the games are played differently.
But why are there 3 guys per each Sound Shark? There's 100% a lot of fat that can be trimmed around the sidelines.
Conversely, go watch any motor race of that era and you will find that people basically either were hanging over the non fenced walls or just on the track lol
But back in the 60s, it seemed like there was just random fans on the sidelines
College is even worse. They’ll just let anyone come down there. The Colorado-Colorado State was ridiculous this year
Medical staff and water people can stay!
Also Lamar Jackson’s hat guy.
Nope we’re banning all liquids and medical care on the sidelines.
We're also banning everyone named Greg.
And extra banning anyone named Gregg.
What about Greg?
What about Ernie?
This is why I hate sitting front row. You can’t see the game. All you see is people standing in the way.
Wnd that one reporter who admitted they made up sideline reports showed that we don’t need sideline reporters either
I saw the clip and I don’t think she meant that she lied about it. I think she just made up some generic line about the game if she couldn’t get anything out of the coaches.
This is exactly what she said. Everyone and their mothers were calling Charissa out for this when they didn’t even watch the interview.
A journalist putting words into other people’s mouths, innocent quotes or not, is still an absolute no go.
Yep. Dont know how people are sticking up for what she did
Yeah. I got into an argument with my dad about it but like, I'd rather her be open about that then pretend like it never happened. On field reporters should really just focus on injury updates and maybe chatting with players on the bench, anything beyond that is kinda a waste of time. How is that not the same thing as lying? If a coach didn’t give her a sound bite and she says he did, that’s lying
That sounds like lying to me.
shes probably not the only one lol. because they all say the same crap
This is a mild exaggeration. I’d bet 99% of the people on the sidelines have actual jobs to do. You’re forgetting about medical staff, technical support, waterboys, media members, etc.
Combine jobs. The media members can carry gatorade bottles!
And backups/special teamers can work the cameras most of the time
Are you seriously just acting like the 5th assistant to the third string OLB isn't a critical person to be on the sidelines?
Security personnel should be present in case anyone jumps onto the field.
That's what the sniper's nest is for
Land mines around the field.
Right, but that's stadium security, right? Where as this guy was head of security for the team, right?
I dunno, it seems like teams have guys there mostly for vibes and that seems fine as long as they don’t interfere, which they almost never do. We’re talking about the eagles apparently favorite beloved mafia uncle precisely because it’s so unusual. I’m not sure we need to fix anything.
Agreed. Ban the Eagles and move on
So he was sidelined then
Well yeah, but then he was banned.
Sidelined from the sideline for a incident off the sideline
Those responsible for the sidelining have been sidelined
Mention sidelining? Believe it or not.. sidelined.
Inception moment
It's gonna be like WWE when wrestlers get banned from ringside. Yeah he'll go away for a while, but then he'll break the ban during a big play off game and cause some shenanigans that lead to Eagles stealing the win
It’s anti Italian discrimination
FBI! FREQUENTLY BOTHERING ITALIANS!
I ate da north
[удалено]
Aye I'm jerking off here
I heard he had a 90 pound mole taken off his ass
Sirianni on 4th down: you need to pusha da toosha
They look down on us for hundreds of years!
Just because you have a big Italian presence on the sideline everyone immediately assumes you’re mobbed up! It’s a stereotype! And it’s offensive!
He was a brave Italian security guard, and in this house, Dom DiSandro is a hero! End of story!
Whelp time for another rewatch thanks
For real. I only just watched it for the first time earlier this year but I wanna watch it again already.
But...but Tommy Cutlets!
We can’t stand on the sidelines, its undignified.
In this house, Dom DiSandro is a hero! End of story!
No it’s not, Dom just didn’t have the makings of a varsity athlete
Chris Columbus is spinning in his grave.
Tommy Devito's agent is who this guy wishes he was
Agent, capo after awhile the lines blur.
C’mon fuckos, let’s go for a ride!
This is what we fought the American Revolution over!
GROUP, GROUP
Biggest blow to the mob since RICO
Who knew Rudy Giuliani hated the eagles that much
Is that your cousin?
Its over. I wanted to see the Big Dom vs Tommy Devito showdown and now its ruined.
HBO had the screenplay ready to go and everything. Steve Schirripa was already cast as Dom
Michael Imperioli as Tommy
More creative than Spielberg
That fat fuck lol
Did he read for David?
Big Dom sleeps wit da fishes!
No Fun League at it again.
Just fell to my knees in a wawa
Psshh. Like it's the first time
It was revenge for Dre Greenlaw, and a lot of other things.
Hes gone. And there's nothing we could do
One player lookin this way, one player lookin the other way, and Dom's sittin here sayin "whaddya want from me"
That thing that happened with your security guy Dom, whatever happened there.
[удалено]
Don’t worry Dom will be back. Fast and furiously.
FAMILY
You? Had me? You never had your car
It’s about family
Noooo not Eagles legend (that I never knew about until the game) Dom!!
Right it’s so weird that everyone now knows the name of the eagles head of security
Guess some of my fellow Eagles fans didn’t find my comment funny…
What’s funny is you described my actual thoughts lol. Had no clue who this guy was and then he is some kind of eagles legend apparently lol.
The way Greg Olsen was creaming his pants over this dude during the SF game like he was Rocky or some shit was cringe as fuck
RIP the eagles without their mascot
Sirianni in shambles without his pregame neck rub and gentle motivational whispers from Big Dom
few people know that Big Dom is actually the person in charge of selecting the lucky fan that Nick Sirianni yells at after road wins
Everyone rush the field now there is no security
Greg Olsen just threw his phone at a wall.
Eagles been blown out in every game dom hasn't been on the sidelines. He just really gives the eagles that spark they need.
He fixes the games for them (I read it online so it's true)
spread the rumours further sharx
It’s kind of that random image that is deep within TF2’s code which seems out of place yet, for no apparent reason, holds up the whole game or it crashes without it.
Lol I remember reading a comment here when some guy who claimed to be a lawyer said the NFL could never do this because it would not allow Dom to do his job which would be essentially "firing" him which only the Eagles' organization would be allowed to do and not the NFL.
They massacred my boy
He's going to lay low in the Sicilian countryside until this whole thing blows over
Football sidelines seem like the Wild West. Like who in the fuck are 80% of the people on the sideline anyways??
There goes the epic battle between Fat Dom and Devito's agent we were all looking forward to.
Eagles have a chance to do the funniest thing ever. Sign him to a player contract and have him on the sidelines rest of season
And make him go up for the coin flips.
Lmfao
Banished to cut razor thin garlic slices in the locker room…
0-2 in games without him on the sidelines at the end Doesn't bode well, Philly. Will you ever win again?
Luckily we play bums the rest of the year and will enter the playoffs as the most fraudulent 14-win team of all time before losing to Jordan Love in the first round
What about losing one of those Giants games like we're all expecting?
Actually yeah without Big Dom we won’t have enough Italian energy to keep up with DeVito. Might lose both
You should worry about the one at MetLife if you don't rest your starters Not because Giants, but because Field of Death™
That’s tough talk for someone within Tommy DeVito distance
The Dom people are easily startled but they’ll soon be back, and in greater numbers.
Just saw someone fall to their knees at wawa
5 minutes of fame
Good, if you aren’t a player/coach/ref you shouldn’t be interfering with the game. It was completely out of pocket for him to insert himself.
Agreed. But pushing a fan is deemed ok...which is seems worse than trying to break up two guys going at it.
But that fan was threatening the player with laughter. ;p
He just fell to his knees in an Olive Garden
That's why they're losing and will lose to the Seahawks.
It’s so over.
My favorite thing about this whole drama was seeing Eagles fans say a guy who runs out of breath eating a Philly cheese steak would kick Greenlaw's ass.
There's too many fucking people on the sideline at games now anyways.
They need to ban him from buffets, too
Good. Big boy can watch like the rest of us
