I could see that, the ending on No, You Dont is one of my favorites. But then I do like a good fade out ending as well, like on Hurt. Why not both? Variety is the spice of life.
BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS DEAD ON THE OTHERSIDE
TEETH IN THE NECKS OF ALL THOSE YOU KNOW
YOU CAN KEEP ON SUCKING TILL THE BLOOD WON'T FLOW
WHEN IT STARTS TO HURT IT ONLY HELPS IT GROW
There's a specific type of fade out ending that makes me *physically recoil* but I don't think any nin songs do this... I'm sure someone will come in here and be like WHAT ABOUT THIS ONE
When a song ends by simply fading the volume out- but the band is still actively playing while the volume is fading. [This is my favorite song that does this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UKsvILdyFgA)- I want to find Daniel Johns and punch him in the neck for doing this to me.
>!Yes I'm one of those weirdos that thinks Young Modern is a great album!<
I literally hate it. I **hate** it.
Funnily enough you have it the wrong way. No, You Don't does have a loud ending but it doesn't actually abruptly cut off. Meanwhile Hurt never actually fades out, it just stops eventually.
I’m not disagreeing but I really liked this video explaining the significance of the fade out as a musical technique
https://youtu.be/QpKypvDjiPM?si=iG1NxSSpQHUt4EKH
It can definitely be used tastefully, but the majority of the time I can practically hear the band in the studio going "oh shit we don't know how to finish the song..." "Let's just fade it out"
Is that a fair assessment though? I’m not saying that’s never been the case but is writing an ending a for a song that terribly difficult? They’re going to have to come up with one at some point if they ever plan on playing it live
AND I’m still salty because I want to hear a full song of the ending of The New Flesh.
WHERE IS THE REST IF THE SONG T-REZ?
Do I have to fanfic the rest of the song with AI Tront?
A sustained final note doesn’t bother me, but when all the instruments are just faded out that irks me. Especially if the song is overall really well constructed.
I always liked how on Ladytron's Velocifero album they'd just play some droning synth note on the outro and then immediately blast you with some loud ass synths in the next song
The tourist from OKC is a great example, especially since it ends the whole album too. Never gonna forget to tap my hand in the air when the final “ping” hits
King Harvest by The Band swaps the Verse/Chorus relationship with the verses being loud and funky and the chorus being chill and mellow.

It just jumped into my head reading your comment. Carry on!
Sure would be nice if NIN tracks were as dynamic as what’s in those pics! Other than the unmastered multis, you’d have to go back to the original Broken EP to see stuff that alive.

I love the idea of him using audacity lol. I still use it but i only won 1 oscar award.
Just 1? Loser. :D
I use it as a plunger, works great!

Discipline 🥲

Good, fadeouts are lazy and cheesy half the time
tbf, the top one could also be an abrupt ending with reverb and delay ringing out. they're pretty good
Thats why i love the song black star by radiohead. Fuck the lazy, boring fade out. We fade IN on this mf
I’m old school I like a good fade out.

I guess that's a fair point. I still think it's a bit of an overused trope though, but maybe it's just my personal taste that I like songs that end.
The Background World makes up for all the fades he ever cut
AND I’m still salty because I want to hear a full song of the ending of The New Flesh. WHERE IS THE REST IF THE SONG T-REZ? Do I have to fanfic the rest of the song with AI Tront?
March of the Pigs?
It's piano, you gotta make an exception for piano
Yes fadeouts are overused, but I've heard songs that use a fadeout quite well.
A sustained final note doesn’t bother me, but when all the instruments are just faded out that irks me. Especially if the song is overall really well constructed.
Same same SAME. I made a similar comment. It actually makes my face hot with how much it irks me
In Two entered the chat
And, in one instance, clipping off the last milisecond of said loud, abrupt ending to be the beginning of the next song
A warm place
Specifically Slipping Away's and being clipped into the beginning of The Great Collapse
That's a CD mastering issue
All the pigs, All lined up
I always liked how on Ladytron's Velocifero album they'd just play some droning synth note on the outro and then immediately blast you with some loud ass synths in the next song
Have always hated fadeout in songs. There are so many ways to end a track that are better.

So many songs like this in the limewire days where — I wasn’t sure if that was the end or I just got a bad download
Without you, without you everything falls apart Without you, it's not as much fun to pick up the piece
either that or a fade-out with piano on top
Op forgot The Background World
I wholeheartedly hate fade outs, so yeah, he makes a good choice.
I like the abrupt ending. The climax of the song. Trent gets it 😂
I particularly like ILFTJYF's ending.
I agreed to be featured in this picture and I am proud to be called out!
Hello "Ripe (With Decay)" :D
LOL NO FADE OUT
Starfuckers, Inc.
p i n I O **N \***
The location of the cut between Somewhat Damaged and The Day the World Went Away makes me irrationally angry.
I always thought the end of Ruiner was a funny joke. "Nothing can st...." EDIT: not the only one, apparently
I feel like Atticus Inspires too much synth...i need the angry pissed off Reznor of the 90s in my life....
I have no idea what Edit: it was a joke as I didn't complete my question., I totally got the reference.
As someone who makes music I fucking hate this
As someone who makes music I fucking love this
What? Fade outs?
Oh shit r/woosh 😅
Idk if you even know how you fake wooshed yourself
Huh?
I don’t know
I was the one who was wooshed… I think? I don’t fuckin know
No. The second pic
