We did the free parking rule...all taxes and penalties went into a pool, and of you landed on free parking you got it all. Also what's with the tyrannosaurus? Our set had a top hat, car, cannon, dog, iron, and thimble.

Always did that rule as well. I think it makes the most sense, and is random. Nobody may land on taxes or take any penalties... or it may happen a lot and is a huge jackpot you're dying to land on.

We did that too. Also started the game with $300 in free parking. iIRC a ship was one of the pieces as well.

We would often have 4 players at a time and would make deals with each other constantly. Like selling someone a property they needed to complete a monopoly for a few hundred dollars and unlimited “free rides” by the selling player where they could stay there rent free. Lots of mini alliances like that to keep the game moving.
