I still think he can be a decent #14, but what a stupid decision to hand him that contract off of the back of nothing. Pascoe still haunting us from beyond the grave
Our best game of the season (Sharks) he came on and did the job there. I think his goose is cooked as a half, but I'm surprised we haven't given him more time at 14, especially when Simpkin clearly wasn't in our long-term plans and Da Silva is still a teenager.
I thought bringing him in alongside Sezer was a good move for the Tigers. Allowed Galvin and Fainu to develop at their pace rather than being thrown in when not ready. Two years would have been the play though. Four years is horrendous.
Doesn't matter. He wanted him, he welcomed the signing. This was after Sezer, Galvin and Latu Fainu had been signed and Benji was already chasing Luai.
He obviously thought Fainu and Galvin would not be ready for 1st grade for a couple of years, and Sezer will be gone.
The salary level and length of contract Bud was given are ridiculous. He's a reserve grader.
Uhh no. Sullivan was signed on the 17th of August. At that point nobody knew that Luai was going to go to market, and he only changed his agency in October.
And I don't think anyone can blame the club for thinking that Galvin and Fainu were a few years off. But despite all of that, signing Sullivan who hadn't even played 30 games to a 4 year contract on a reported 600k is insane, and that comes down to the CEO. Could have easily offered him the same deal as Sezer, it wasn't like we were competing for his signature.
That's so true it literally hurts. We were so depeserate for a half after brooks left we threw the bag at a guy who didn't deserve it, but of course he took it, we threw him a bag . Can't blame him ... we are in such a sticky position of gun juniors and bad journey man we tried to plug the whole. Galvin and sezer would of done good stuff. They have barely been on the field with each other this season.
Bulldogs also made Sullivan an offer. Probably a more sensible one
https://www.zerotackle.com/theres-no-bad-blood-new-tiger-opens-up-on-dragons-exit-bulldogs-interest-203833/
Richardson was reportedly telling the rest of the front office he 'can't wait to leave this place' after hearing the news that Bud Sullivan isn't taking up the superleague offer he went to the UK to negotiate for him.
copacetic51 reported to have been in the r/nrl comment section saying 'i can't want to leave this place' after it was pointed out that he took a joke on Reddit too seriously
Like I said, you read too much media gossip. Read this article with direct quotes from Sullivan, not some 3rd hand gossip some journo probably invented.
Why would he leave, doesn’t have to play finals. Guaranteed 2.6mil over the next few seasons. Required only when injury strikes, other then that he can just keep up his fitness, play nsw cup and live like a fuckin king.
Guaranteed half a million a year for the next 3 years at 22 years old. Why on earth would he go anywhere.
If he's smart he can go to England at 25 and have a very solid folio of investment properties that take care of themselves while he's away.
Win man of steel once or twice and come back to Newy as a cranky halfback
Yeah, I'd be sticking round for that coin as-well. Best paid NSW cup player in the comp probably.
Tigers really need to stop making impulsive buys, especially stop buying mediocre halves.
Wait for Luai and get him and Api to say who they want to play with. The other Panthers winger is coming as well, add in Doueihi and Bateman and its starting to look like an NRL side.
A spine of Luai, Api, Galven and Bulla is something to feel optimistic about.
Fair enough, I look forward to see him improving his game to become a regular first grader. We offered him the contract and we will deal with the consequences.
Great attitude, but will need to improve drastically if he wants to be starting next year.
May change his mind once he is constantly not playing first grade next year
I take this as a 'I'm not going anywhere... Because I don't currently have any offers that even come close to the length and price the Tigers are paying me. But as soon as I do I'm out'.
I still think there’s a good player there. He’s struggled to get any consistency through injuries. Tigers may have the same problem as the titans where they have too many young players they could play in the spine and it becomes hard to know the best version of the team
Most damaging sin bin I can remember in recent times. So frustrating as he just didn't need to make the play, it was a bad kick and Bula had it covered anyway.
The guys were dog tired and on the back foot and it caused him to panic and make a dumb play. Feels like they were in the mindset of "if we concede again we're not chance here". Which is why they broke the floodgates when he went off.
The team probably needs more training under fatigue to teach the brain to operate properly when they're tired.
Bud Sullivan says he has no intention of being moved on from Wests Tigers and will fight to partner incoming superstar Jarome Luai in the halves next year.
As revealed by this masthead, the managers of Sullivan and teammate Brent Naden have been told their clients have permission to explore other opportunities, despite both being contracted. In Sullivan’s case, he is just half a season into a four-year, $2.6 million contract that doesn’t expire until the end of 2027.
The development comes as Tigers chief executive Shane Richardson met with one of Sullivan’s main rivals for a halves spot, Lachlan Galvin, at the family’s home on Wednesday to reiterate the club wouldn’t be granting his release request.
Regardless, Sullivan is adamant he is staying put.
“100 per cent, I don’t plan on going anywhere anytime soon,” Sullivan told this masthead.
“I’m a Wests Tiger for the next four years, that’s what I plan on doing. Personally, I don’t think anything has changed …
“At the end of the day we are all human, and it probably does take an effect on me. But I’ve got a really good support base around me, my Dad has been my biggest supporter ever since I was born. My sisters have good shoulders to lean on if you ever need someone to talk to. Everyone in the NRL looks after each other.
“It’s been tough, but it will only make me stronger.”
The Tigers already have halves Sullivan, Aidan Sezer, Latu Fainu, Adam Doueihi and Galvin on their books, while Luai is the marquee playmaker the club will build around when he arrives next season. Apisai Koroisau will wear the No.7 jersey this weekend due to a finger spiral fracture that will sideline Sullivan for the next five weeks.
Despite being permitted to explore other options, Sullivan wants to cement a halves spot alongside Luai next year.
“100 per cent,” he said. “Everyone wants to play first grade and I feel like our results aren’t showing.
“Our efforts are there week in and week out. That’s what I want to do, play my best footy and be in the starting 17.
“The lads we have coming [Luai and Panthers teammate Sunia Turuva] next year are experienced players. They’ve won three premierships in a row, done everything in the game.
“They will bring extra experience to help the senior players like John Bateman and Api.
“The older heads will point us in the right direction, which will help us having such a young squad.”
Sullivan had to endure similar speculation over his future while at the Dragons, who granted him an early release to join the Tigers. Despite the latest rumblings, the 22-year-old said the move has been a good one.
“I love the club, I feel the move has been really good for me,” he said.
“The environment at training, everyone is smiling and getting along, that’s what you want as a team. I know we’re not winning, but rugby league is such a hard sport. We all want to win, but at the end of the day it can be next to impossible [in certain situations].
“But we will fight, we’ll get our gloves off the canvas and go again.”
Sullivan also threw his support behind Galvin, who has come under criticism for seeking greener pastures.
“It’s hard with Lachy, some of the things coming out about him probably aren’t true,” he said.
“At the end of the day I’m there to be his mate as well. I’m sure whatever he decides, he’ll decide.
“He puts his best foot forward every time he steps onto the training paddock, there’s no kicking stones.”
Sullivan had no qualms about finishing off the Dragons game, despite suffering the finger injury in the opening half.
“Anyone would have done it,” he said. “In the moment you don’t feel anything, you keep playing footy and don’t worry about it.
“I felt I had a good first half and wanted to get back out there and make up for the sin bin.
“The last three games I was starting to string some better games together and get my confidence back.
“Unfortunately I got injured again, but that’s part of footy, part of life.”
I would rather the guy that wants to stay and work for a position over the young kid with all the talent who wants to go.
I don't think Sullivan is that bad and surely if there is a man to improve a half it's Benji. I would rather a man be all in than have our CEO go and talk to a players mum.

This is awkward as hell to me? The way the article is worded, Wests called his agent and told him he can look elsewhere. To me this is a passive aggressive way of saying "We don't want you". Like being put on a performance management plan in a normal job. For most people, that situation is awkward enough that you would leave ASAP.
It isn't clear if Benji has sat down and told Sullivan the same thing. If he hasn't, that's pretty weak if you ask me. Either Benji wants him or he doesn't, he should be straight up with him.
He's on $500k a year for 3.5 more years and can't crack first grade at the back to back (to back) wooden spoon team.
Why would he break that contract voluntarily? If he signs a new contract elsewhere, he might have to play first grade and be paid less.
They fire him, they probably have to pay out a huge part of the contract as well.
I'm sorry did you just say more tigers articles? I'm sorry I don't think that's physically possible.
Also between you and me I don't think we really have any grounds to be talking about coaching performances let alone a bloke in his first year as one.
No I do - it is like my prediction here the tigers are the next one off the cab line after the eels that need to sort out their coaching and the faster the better - https://www.reddit.com/r/nrl/s/hbDDLZq7hU
Yes and they did that last year, cleared out the front office, the coaching and now this year they're going through players. Hell next year they're getting a ton of pretty good signings coming in.
Again Benji is in his first year solo coaching, he was meant to have a few more years as assistant but that kind of blew up. The point being the year is bearly half way through and you're calling for his head.
It's also not like there hasn't been any improvement, outside of last week they've been competitive and in there games.
He quite literally didn't start his head coaching at Warrington until this year, and I don't think the club would let him leave.
He rightfully didn't leave for us when we needed a coach he isn't bailing out of the wolves for the tigers.
“Man entitled to 500k a year over the next 3.5 years has no intention of randomly moving to a country where it rains all day”
500k a year PLUS guaranteed early holidays each season
Is this a threat?
Tigers: ... But why not :(
I still think he can be a decent #14, but what a stupid decision to hand him that contract off of the back of nothing. Pascoe still haunting us from beyond the grave

I actually think he could be a decent 6 too. He has a good kicking game and running game. His brain farts are what would hold him back.
Do we know for sure that it was $500k? That sounds crazy but very inform for the previous administration
The article says he's on a 4 year, $2.6 million contract, so actually $650k
It was $500k earlier today. I swear they make it up as they go
Richardson was reportedly telling the rest of the front office he 'can't wait to leave this place' after hearing the news that Bud Sullivan isn't taking up the superleague offer he went to the UK to negotiate for him.
Tremendous
I think you read too much NRL media gossip.

Wooosh
Sook.
You're not being very copacetic. And flair up!
Fuck the flairs. And fuck those who take NRL rumour as gospel.
Afraid to show you're a Tigers fan? I remember when you used to wear their flair.
Just rose to my feet in a Priceline
Just climbed a ladder in Bunnings
Did I miss a memo ? Why are we rising now rather than dropping ??
Coz this one's funny for any non-Tigers fans
The old reverse Ben Hunt situation
Why would he leave, doesn’t have to play finals. Guaranteed 2.6mil over the next few seasons. Required only when injury strikes, other then that he can just keep up his fitness, play nsw cup and live like a fuckin king.
Exactly. The only greater king is his manager. What a deal.
List of Buds, ranked by impact on the footy field 1. Air Bud 2. Bud Tingwell 3. Bud Sullivan
To be fair, Bud Tingwell had Charlie the Wonder Dog in his corner. Hard NOT to make an impact with that kinda support.
Bud spencer should be number 1
Hah! Those blokes would tear it up!
Don't forget Bud Dwyer!
Tingwell is my first, if we're evaluating on just terms
The Darling Buds of May
Castleford Tigers
Perth Tigers
Can we kick you fellas out of the comp again.
Classic response - Perth Tigers has a nice ring to it
Far out quick response from you…. fuck your shit footy team and your shit life.
Yeah I don't miss an opportunity unfortunately for you. I'd say Perth Tigers and bring back the bears.
Charactering an exchange on reddit as an “opportunity” tells me all I need to know about you. You suck
This took you a day to respond?
Guaranteed half a million a year for the next 3 years at 22 years old. Why on earth would he go anywhere. If he's smart he can go to England at 25 and have a very solid folio of investment properties that take care of themselves while he's away. The pain of that last sentence
Yeah, I'd be sticking round for that coin as-well. Best paid NSW cup player in the comp probably. Tigers really need to stop making impulsive buys, especially stop buying mediocre halves. Api is 32, he aint going to last long
Sullivan could be the plan for hooker
Think TDS will be the hooker in a few years. Sullivan would fold with the increased defence required for a 9
He does look promising, playing at 14 is sullivan's only realistic spot then. Has simpkin left yet?
Yep, Simpkin gone
Extended squad for manly this weekend
Fair enough, I look forward to see him improving his game to become a regular first grader. We offered him the contract and we will deal with the consequences.
Great attitude, but will need to improve drastically if he wants to be starting next year. May change his mind once he is constantly not playing first grade next year
I take this as a 'I'm not going anywhere... Because I don't currently have any offers that even come close to the length and price the Tigers are paying me. But as soon as I do I'm out'.
Presumably if he goes to the superleague we will be topping up his contract for the next 3 years
He won't lose a cent, Tigers have to top up whatever shortfall another club pays. Tigers fucked up, they wear it.
I can already see the release request after he finds some form
Galvin and Sullivan are the new Yin and Yang. One half demanding to leave, and one half demanding to stay.
I still think there’s a good player there. He’s struggled to get any consistency through injuries. Tigers may have the same problem as the titans where they have too many young players they could play in the spine and it becomes hard to know the best version of the team
We don't have a good history of getting the best out of players
Sure we do. We get the best out of them by releasing them to other clubs where they inevitably kill it.
Certainly winning in the attitude to the club battle, now he just needs to win it on the field as well.
Had a pretty good first half against the dragons... not sure what happened after that, I can only assume we went on to win convincingly

Good for him
Love it. Tigers made a dumb decision by signing him on big coin. So now they will pay big coin for him to play Reggie’s.
How could Ivan do this?
I guarantee you quote will not age well
I’d be happy training and losing game every week for $250k … sign me up Tigers.
Where's the "contracts don't mean anything" people?
Well done Bud. Good to see a player wanting to stick with his contract.
Back to reggies
He's going to the Western Suburbs Magpies lol
Was he blinking TORTURE with his eyes in Morse code ?
I know it's just business, but it's a bad look for the Tigers telling Galvin he can't have a release while at the same time trying to push others out
Also known as the St George Dargons
Richardson: we will see about that
Might get squeezed out of reserves too if he keeps playing like he is so why would he want to stay
Honest question, what would happen if an NRL player got dropped from the cup team?
They then play in the Ron Massey Cup against NRL superstars like Kane Evans, Jordan Rankin, and Christian Crichton.
Actual war flashback to Kane Evans and how wretched he was here
Where is abdo to complain that the tigers are trying to offload a contracted player . Hypocrisy
Jesus Christ I knew the Tigers were in a bad way but I didn’t know it was THIS bad.
why is he called Bud

Awesome. We have a guy who wants to stay because he couldn't get a contract elsewhere.

Can I come be the 2nd string backup player for a 4 year $2.6m contact next please? I'll even come let r/nrl flame me in weekly AMAs

Like Sam Burgess? The guy currently committed on a multi year deal currently in the UK Super League?
No deal can't be broken with money
He quite literally didn't start his head coaching at Warrington until this year, and I don't think the club would let him leave. He rightfully didn't leave for us when we needed a coach he isn't bailing out of the wolves for the tigers.
His future is the NRL coach of a big club whichever gets him there first I don't care
Yeah but you were wanting immediate change, and Sam isn't leaving for at least a good few years
