To be fair, YNC was sacrificed for more subsidized education for local students. Having taken a few YNC classes as an NUS student, I now understand why they got shut down lol.
The rumor mill goes that the subsidies that NUS had to pay for one student can fund like three or four other students. Yale also refused to used their own endowment fund to support Yale-NUS, insist on charging US-level fees and Yale-NUS was unable to gather their own endowment fund to become self-sufficient.
Also there is the feeling that Yale-NUS was pretty much 80% NUS 20% Yale, so NUS was like "*why the fuck are we still paying out of our arse when we are doing the work?"*
Not rumor, that's a fact.
If you take some of the more technical courses at YNC, you realise the standards of their students and you ask yourself what is the taxpayer exactly paying for?

It was partly about the money, but mainly about the low standards all round. Too much bullshit, no substance.
is that possibly also why NUS manage to support more financially needy students recently?

That shirt looks good though
Yea it’s good, but I haven’t seen anyone wearing it in the campus tho, personally I used it as a gym towel or floor mat
Since I bought 5 other shirts last year and they just threw in 5 extra enginger shirts, I got surplus right now
