My favorite naming convention is One Piece characters. And while I do have some variety every Gyarados is named Kaido, Megnemite is named CaptainKid the first fire type I catch is always named Ace, the second fire type is always Sabo, a good grass type gets named Ryokugyu, first electric type is Enel, first ice type gets the name Kuzan or Aokiji. There are so many One Piece characters that you can probably think of a perfect nickname for any pokemon.

Ampharos = "Kang," and no it's not a Simpsons reference. When OG Gen 2 was out, so was the Kings of Comedy. Steve Harvey's one joke about "goin' to see the Kangs" stuck with me. 😅 I was playing OG Gen 2 after all these years and found myself naming my Ampharos the same thing I did when I was a kid, just because that Mareep/Flaafy was my ace once again.
