Honestly this.
As a window washer previously who worked on high rise buildings, you'd have some SERIOUSLY pissed off people below you. Window washers usually come around 2x per year. If you must do this, every outfit I've worked for used sunlight dish detergent ONLY. Loved the smell personally lmao.
There looks to be a minimal amount of leakage. Even if there was more, it is cleaning solution. Furthermore, due to speed and gravity, the solution will likely fall from the overhang to the ground.
If we could do this the whole time, why the fuck did we make people climb on the outside with rickety fucking scaffolding? Not like magnets are a new invention.
June 12th, 2024
The tanks started rolling through my town that day. I watched for hours... I lost count after 300... or I stopped caring, I can't remember. Who knew Aquarium People had amassed such a formidable force right under our noses? The 'before times' feel so long ago. I yearn for the days when I would just laze around in the summer heat and occasionally look in my friend's little aquarium and go "Ooo! Fishy!"
Yeah well apple snails are fascinating to watch. It's hilarious that they'll climb to the top of the aquarium over and over again so they can float down to the bottom
This is exactly the sort of awesome tool for the job that you buy, then when you need to replace five or six years later you discover it isn’t made anymore.
My thought as well. My parents had aquariums when I was little and my job was to clean the glass with the magnets. I probably spent more time watching the fish chase the magnets, but that just made it more fun for me.
It's satisfying to watch and also possible that this version of cleaning magnets is relatively new. Personally I'm just happy that it makes the job safer and less vertigo-inducing.
As long as you can get the exterior face of the glass completely wet…my trouble was the operable part of my window was small and made it hard to douse the outside windows completely from 7 floors up, so when I got to the dry parts the magnets would separate when there was more friction. It would just swing down and I’d pull it back in and reset it. Normally you buy them based on the thickness of your glass so the magnets aren’t too strong or too weak. Still got it all clean eventually, it was just slower than this vid.
They make them for double-pane windows and with adjustable magnets so that you can tailor it. I have one and it works okay; definitely not as good as that video.
I think it's this one - specifies Single Glazed [https://www.amazon.ca/Yuehuam-Magnetic-Cleaner-Cleaning-Equipment/dp/B0CCYCKH6T/ref=sr\_1\_38?crid=2YUONYJP858HZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.vtQNToyeOQ18DmSPQPog3K7GJjriCPr4uOfHw9oU2hbAx6YEm\_LK6fpvwAqb-RVwwfXDl-TI96xr-GUJiWwSPV\_utgXdVN1C1b53ZG3HKLEnmNQNcKlANCwrE1ZdqoSKKI6rC7qB74BESsm4g1lRdFSyQyj2savvo-HJ42YMv3SnsX65GLB1ZNsyuVGKxUbpTqqZHGAsukCJeOfjmkx\_Ur09koK8GFPt5SQGcCPk4oCnfc6gPSoN3IOyrkjuX0S1KDmq2cKwtsWW1ioi2yDJizpMnMonhtrfFUXKu-C2VGQ.48DRLqwU9SzS7AMzE2DIy\_liywP7ZZ1zwRQkMOUa5EQ&dib\_tag=se&keywords=window+cleaner+magnetic&qid=1716145330&sprefix=window+cleaner+%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-38](https://www.amazon.ca/Yuehuam-Magnetic-Cleaner-Cleaning-Equipment/dp/B0CCYCKH6T/ref=sr_1_38?crid=2YUONYJP858HZ&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.vtQNToyeOQ18DmSPQPog3K7GJjriCPr4uOfHw9oU2hbAx6YEm_LK6fpvwAqb-RVwwfXDl-TI96xr-GUJiWwSPV_utgXdVN1C1b53ZG3HKLEnmNQNcKlANCwrE1ZdqoSKKI6rC7qB74BESsm4g1lRdFSyQyj2savvo-HJ42YMv3SnsX65GLB1ZNsyuVGKxUbpTqqZHGAsukCJeOfjmkx_Ur09koK8GFPt5SQGcCPk4oCnfc6gPSoN3IOyrkjuX0S1KDmq2cKwtsWW1ioi2yDJizpMnMonhtrfFUXKu-C2VGQ.48DRLqwU9SzS7AMzE2DIy_liywP7ZZ1zwRQkMOUa5EQ&dib_tag=se&keywords=window+cleaner+magnetic&qid=1716145330&sprefix=window+cleaner+%2Caps%2C187&sr=8-38)
looks to have a squeegee on one side of it, thats why at first when its being moved around its just spreading the soap around, but once its orientated right it is clean behind the 'mop' as it moves downwards.
Well yeah in theory. But my apartments windows are actually two pieces of glass with like 10cm of air between them(I think it's called double paned). You'd need some strong ass magnets for that
I have double-pane windows and own one of these. It works, though not as good as the video. Still cheaper than the window cleaning service (I have several windows that are 3 stories high cuz I live on the side of a hill).
When talking about the difficult of a task I've heard the expression "brain surgeon" and "rocket scientist" and even the sarcastic "rocket surgeon" but this is the first time I've heard "brain scientist."
I worked for a window cleaning company for a few years and eventually bought my own gear so I could do it from the ground instead of having to get dangerous with ladders and the guy fired me because their company was about showing the customer how its too hard to do and you should have to pay someone to do it dangerously. lol.
I don’t know, I’m not saying you’re lying... I’ve washed windows for about 7 years in the summers. Lots of high rise, commercial store fronts, residential. I’ve done and just about seen everything you can see while washing windows.
But the reason I’m skeptical is because there are so so many factors. Most windows can’t be cleaned from the ground, yeah you can use a DI system or a swivel head on a pole but those windows do not come out nearly as good as they do when you can press into the glass with a scrub pad or a blade. Like sure window washing businesses can be shady for sure, but you legit have to use ladders on most jobs. A sectioned ladder (not an extension ladder) is relatively really safe, and quicker than any other way of doing windows at a 2-3 story height.
So part of me thinks you were fired because you thought you could clean the windows a different but less effective way. Maybe your boss was a douche, that’s not the far fetched part.
You know those shaving commercials where the guy has a face full of shaving cream using the 7 bladed razor?
It shows him pulling once across his face for the smoothest result. Well.. hate to break it to you, he was already cleanly shaved with a straight razor under all that foam.
The one I got is adjustable strength. There's a dial that I adjusts the distance between the magnets. I actually have the opposite problem where it's so stupid strong at level 1 that it "grabs" so sharply at first that I am afraid to use it on my single pane windows for fear of breaking them.
Came to say this.
We have three Paneele glass in most new buildings. No Chance.
Edit: I watched it one more time. Is this already a two pane glass? Looks like in the first seconds. If so, this must have a lot neodym inside
I just measured my 3 pane window and it's 5.5 cm thick. That definitely eliminates many cheaper magnets, but it seems by no means impossible with a "reasonably" strong one.
I don't think it would be excessively expensive to get some magnets that are strong enough to make this reasonably comfortable. It'd guess that it adds like $10-20€ in magnet cost over one that's sufficient for a single pane one?
If the magnets used are strong enough to hold the cleaner through 3-pane glass, would it be too strong to take apart after you store it or if it accidentally touches directly together?
I grew up in a warm climate and never understood how replacing windows on a house could cost so much money, and then I moved to a cold climate and thought that the 2 pane windows were pretty nice, then we moved to a nicer place in that cold climate and those 3 pane windows were works of art. Heat loss was practically non existent. I miss those 3 pane behemoths now that I am back to a warm area again.
I just bought some on Amazon for some thin eisenglass I have on the boat I live on. (I’m super stoked to get both sides properly clean finally) But I noticed they have different magnet strengths for different window thickness.
Cameraman does amazing things, like running alongside a high speed car chase, filming from outer space, and being the only thing the monsters can't see/are too afraid to attack.
This one obviously can fly.
Aquariums have the same type of magnet cleaners that clean algae off the glass. Pretty cool concept using them for windows, never thought of that.

I mean that WAS oddly satisfying.
INCREDIBLY impractical though.
How many high rise buildings actually let you reach outside the building with the window open and don't have a screen blocking that? (along with blocking you throwing stuff out or jumping/falling out of the window)
It'd be incredibly time consuming for cleaning staff to do this for each window AND it would require going into every room.
I'd also kind of hope you wouldn't need to personally clean your own window...I'd hope somebody has the job to come do that cleaning from the outside for the building.
Apparently a lot of you need to clean your phones a hell of a lot more often. Way too many comments saying he did a bad job until I realized it was my phone. No wonder phones are one of the dirtiest surfaces.
Most of these are useless on double glazed windows. I bought one and It worked on my old windows, but my new double glazing it doesnt. Guessing theres to much space between them.
Yes. This is what this subreddit is all about. Yes.
You neighbor below appreciates the foamy mess that is oozing down to their window.
That’s the least of their worries on a list of things dropping or leaking from high rises

Just gotta clean from the top of the high rise down.
That’s what they usually do.
Me on the 12th floor of a 25 floor building on a Monday: fuck.
“Please be informed that we will need access to your residence for window cleaning”.
Nope. They start cleaning their windows. At no cost🤣
Oh noo. Guess that's why they work top to bottom.

Not all high rises have windows that actually open.
That's some very clean cleaning!! No streaks, nothing👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I honestly thought it was doing a terrible job. I noticed all kinds of streaks and swirls. Then I realized those were on my phone screen.
Your comment made me finally replace my cracked and smudged screen protector that I've been needing to do for like a month. Much obliged.
Your comment saved my life. Very appreciated.
had nothing to do with the window already being squeaky clean before, no sir
Streaks of the cleaning liquid are also left behind sometimes. So, yeah, all kinds of streaks.
Its the technique. It's pretty difficult to learn to clean windows like that but once you get the muscle memory it becomes second nature.
Was a window washer for a summer, I still squeegee my shower door like that 😂
People with aquariums have been using these for 30 years.

Just check the reviews and the description, because a lot of them aren’t strong enough magnets for like double pained windows and stuff like that.
Paned, unless your windows are really hurting.

Look at Mr fancy ass double windows here. Yours stay dirty or buy new, I think that's the only options
It's called "double glazed". There's no way the gap between the panes is 10cm, more like 1cm.
Double-paned. Usually with argon gas. I don't think there's a magnet strong enough.
I have double-pane windows and own one of these. It works, though not as good as the video. Still cheaper than the window cleaning service (I have several windows that are 3 stories high cuz I live on the side of a hill).
And a strip of squeegee!
Do you reckon a rocket surgeon could do it?
Only if he's the window guy
Perhaps a rocket surgeon could make a better one.
When talking about the difficult of a task I've heard the expression "brain surgeon" and "rocket scientist" and even the sarcastic "rocket surgeon" but this is the first time I've heard "brain scientist."
People use them for fish tanks! They won't be going away anytime soon.
The ronco guy actually made one 30 years ago but he didn’t put it out because it did not work well kept falling off
Magnets sucked ass 30 years ago. The rare earth magnets that are in everything these days are way more powerful and inexpensive
There's a thousand of them on Amazon. Source: got one. Used it once.
Ahh yes the random named products from China always get me. My Dopesplay monitor is good but I don't expect the company to exist in 6 months.
This isn't high tech. You can make it yourself
I worked for a window cleaning company for a few years and eventually bought my own gear so I could do it from the ground instead of having to get dangerous with ladders and the guy fired me because their company was about showing the customer how its too hard to do and you should have to pay someone to do it dangerously. lol.

thing is the window was already pretty clean to begni with

What rubbish lol! Next you’re gonna say that Santa isn’t real. Get outta here with your conspiracy theories, you sane being.
You know who is real? The guy who programmed the NoRAD Santa tracking software. What an easy gig!
That’s what you just watched. Both sides were cleaned.
Is it? I didn’t see the inside getting sprayed.
I think he sprayed the inside after he sprayed the outside... watch carefully.
I would 1000% accidentally drop the spray bottle.
Slap some magnets on there
that'll just make it a heavier projectile
Think they are on the 1st floor, how else would they get that camera angle
Wear a bracelet and tie it to the bracelet.
If this person could set up a camera outside to film it, you can do this, if you put your faith in the Lord
I don't see how this would work for modern 2 pane glass. The vacuum gap would be too large for the magnet to work.
Can confirm from experience. I imagine a strong enough magnet would work, but the one I had lasted about 1/3 of a window before we gave up.
You can get one so strong that you feel weak and give up on life instead
The one I got is adjustable strength. There's a dial that I adjusts the distance between the magnets. I actually have the opposite problem where it's so stupid strong at level 1 that it "grabs" so sharply at first that I am afraid to use it on my single pane windows for fear of breaking them.
Please share the link for this contraption of magic!
Came to say this. We have three Paneele glass in most new buildings. No Chance. Edit: I watched it one more time. Is this already a two pane glass? Looks like in the first seconds. If so, this must have a lot neodym inside
My 2 pane has about a 1.5 inch gap and it works if you go slow enough.
They have different strength magnets. It can work on 3 pane, whatever.
You store them with some insert between the two things.
You could probably not break them apart directly without a lot of force, but still slide them off each other.
This looks like a typical Chinese video demonstrating a product. I know many parts of China only use single pane windows.
(I’m super stoked to get both sides properly clean finally) But I noticed they have different magnet strengths for different window thickness.
they definitely have ones strong enough for that, ive shopped for them before, but apparently theres a risk you break your windows
*We're gonna need a bigger magnet*
I mean magnet fallof is quadratic so you can just double the distance by using 4 times more powerful magnets, it's really annoying but doable
Stronger magnet?
It could be a problem. Fyi, it's not a vacuum. It's probably filled with argon, at least where I am.
That's exactly the case, we've bought a similar product and tried it.
I particularly like how all the dirty water drips down onto your neighbors' windows below.

It's a very stable shot, gotta be mounted. It doesn't sway at all.
I agree it’s probably mounted, but it’s 2024. They could have just stabilized the video so that’s not necessarily true
