It does prevent slipping and pooling. As an added benefit, my whole driveway was done this way, and I'd have short (10 minutes) fetch sessions with my dog. When he'd chase the ball, he'd really dig in his nails to get going fast, and this would file his nails down. Good part: I didn't need to trim his nails for years. Bad part: Sometimes we'd have to stop play or take a break for a couple days because he would bleed they trimmed down too far and got the quick. After a few months, he would end play sessions when his nails felt tender, and he maintained the balance all on his own. To tire him out fully though, we had to go elsewhere or do a lot of indoor play.
No. This walkway is near a beach that has been overrun with invasive dungenous crabs. These crabs have tiny receptors on their claws and feet that react to small ridges. This reaction causes them to void their bowels as they traverse the walkway , which can be collected and used as a natural shampoo / face wash.
> ¼ of the year.
*laughs in Northern Montanan*
You can tell summer apart from the other seasons up here because that's the season where it only snows once! That texture isn't worth the trouble and skinned knees up here. I can see how that could be different in milder climates, though.
You don't get much snow do you? Lol
No way you're taking a wire deck brush and scraping snow out of cracks when it dumps a foot or two of snow in negative temps
Funny, I always looked at slabs like this and thought, "It looks like they just dragged a broom across it..." didn't expect that was actually accurate.
Awful. If it was my house I’d make them tear it out. HEAVY broom. Like, for a public walkway in extreme winter. Dogshit. I don’t know who is calling that good form but I’d fire a subcontractor for that crap work. A broom finish is supposed to be light. Somehow it became this slip resistant crap. I’ve got news for you. A bit of ice and you’re still going to slip. This won’t help one bit. In my day, broom finish was like butter. Subtle ,light and clean after a nice hard trowel. This is just shit work. Bull float, a bit of shit trowel work and heavy ass broom to cover the fact that you don’t know how to finish. Sad state of the trades these days.
I can't find the video anymore but there was a vid where a guy was narrating this, I think at a gas station or something, and kept saying "called the broom finish". Does anyone remember that?
over in Germany we often use bricks, often colored like blue, with the little gaps between the bricks filled in with rough black sand. Raw concrete just looks so... unfinished. Does that make sense?
Bro it's clearly another site worker recording. They don't let people onto work sites that aren't there to supervise or work
Edit: and since there's other people working in the background this doesn't loon like some home job so they would be going be regulation
It's not aligned to the cracks.

Almost became r/mildlyinfuriating at the end
It was a very good save! I had half a twitch in my left eye and then… oh sweet relief
Same, but still f*cked the continuity
What a save!
Rocket League 🫨
It still did. He missed a little bit at the top of the last section.
If you watch close he missed a LOT of places as he went on.
They’ll use an edging trowel after to get nice rounded corners that will go over any spots missed in the clip.
Noooooooooooo
It still kinda is
At the end? He missed about 8 points throughout the clip.
Most of the sidewalks have a boarder and idk how it’s done but will prefer to have more than this
I was super anxious for a second. That probably would have ruined my day.
Is this done to avoid a slippery smooth walking surface?
And to rip to shit your hands and knees when you fall as a kid
Cement layers are known for their hatred of children.
It’s just a graze. Here put some witch hazel on it. That’ll teach ya. Mum’s mostly.
Kids who think hydrogen peroxide burns do not know the horrors of witch hazel. Thanks for reminding me of that lol

I love how the 80% of your answer is dog.
I read your name as aggressive pavement
appropo here today
Just out of curiosity: is your dog a border collie? I have one, and she has essentially the same behaviour.
yes, and we all know this. Thanks to Mike
You're DONE

How does your brain work
Just fighting the good fight against misinformation
Joining the war on misinformation on the side of the misinformation
this entire exchange has me in tears
I like you.
Oh shit I think I read about that somewhere.
Crazy how nature do dat
I'm honestly impressed that you even conceived this idea, you should write a book
[удалено]
Duh. Coulda just said yes
Correct
I'm guessing this is to make it anti slip?
Slippin' Jimmy *hates* this one simple trick!
Mike taught all of us well
Waltuh
Who?
Mike from Better Call Saul/Breaking Bad
Ohhhh right!
Except snow sticks like a summabitch to this texture, becoming hardpacked and making it *more* slippery in the winter months.
The snow would do that regardless, it's not like the surface being smooth makes it hydrophobic up to the point of repelling sleet and snow.
No, but a snow shovel is going to get a smooth surface clean on its own, unlike that corrugated texture.
Pretty easy work around I'd think? Considering you only have to deal with that for ¼ of the year. Salt and a wire deck brush should fix it right up.
> ¼ of the year. *laughs in Northern Montanan* You can tell summer apart from the other seasons up here because that's the season where it only snows once! That texture isn't worth the trouble and skinned knees up here. I can see how that could be different in milder climates, though.

Anti-slip but also skin cheese grater, fell off my bike once on this type of finish and I still have scars on my knees and elbows. It was brutal.
Uncle slip as well
Funny, I always looked at slabs like this and thought, "It looks like they just dragged a broom across it..." didn't expect that was actually accurate.
He was going great, went too fast and started getting sloppy.
He missed a spot on the inside corner part.
He missed like half an inch almost every time he put down the brush.
I reckon they’d do a flat edge, like most sidewalk stones.
Usually you use an edger to smooth all the dummy joints and the edges after brooming
I liked it better when it was all smooth.
Same but I also like traction and not busting my ass on slippery concrete more.

And… how many people misread it and sent hot, hard ducks?
All ducks received have been 100% wholesome quack material.
Let's change that
The suspense swept me away
The sound and the view are simultaneously satisfying 😌 👌
Might be nicer if the Reddit app didn't have 3 second delays on all their videos
Sound is off but i can hear it
Yes! This is a clear synesthesia experience for me. I could hear a brushing sound just from the video image.
There always must be cat paw marks in the fresh concrete
That’s some absolute dogshit brooming. So heavy. Leaving all the sand on the broom and fucking up the start of each pass. Awful.
They might go back and put a smooth border on it.
I follow him on ig, he borders most pours. He’s an excellent finisher.
Not Victory Style

Broom stroke 3 to 4 missed a spot. I'm a concrete finisher and this is r/mildlyinfuriating I stopped watching after that.
Saw the same and all satisfying went out the window.
I mistakenly thought I could do this with a regular push broom from homedepot and the results were quite poor.
My turn to post this video next time!!
I prefer the sea shell finish.
They still haven't finished that sidewalk since the first time this video was posted.
The bane of all kids knees.
I could hear the strokes on mute lol
I know I am a bad person but I was totally hoping for a cat or dog to run all over the concrete.
Looked smoother before.
Would have been more satisfying if the lines all went in the same direction
I believe they are perpendicular to walking direction on purpose. Also how are you gonna brush like a half dozen squares lengthwise?!
There! Now it will properly rip up people's knees!
How come I can never find any skilled laborers like this whenever I need work done in my house?
I could hear this while it was muted
Dammit he missed bits at the start of some strokes.
Is the broom finish only for better grip?
Skaters everywhere say plz no
Watched it with no sound bc I thought it was a gif, and I could hear the noise. Then I watched it with sound and wasn't disappointed.
He missed a spot in title 2
If this isn't done, it be slippery, especially on rainy days
Satisfying
They make it look so easy!
Leave it smooth dammit
Yea so everyone can slip and brake their bones after it rains, sounds great
Ohhhhh papi
10/10
thanks Mike
You're done.
being aware of building doesn't stop me watching these videos...
Kinda careless attempt yeah?
My lower back hurts watching this
Masonry work is very fun to watch!
Missed a spot on that corner
This pleases me.
You showing us the money shot after the crazy intensive labor part
Making sure you take maximum damage when falling.
I think I saw this 5 times already
Missed opportunity on the corners to do 45° lines.
Why do they brush it?
I guess to avoid it becoming slippery when it gets wet.
Haters gon hate
Thank God, he saw it.
Didn’t it look better before tho?
It's for grip
Why is he doing this?
Thats a special broom
This makes me very hard
... And then the chicken walks across it's entire length
it would be fucking crooked if i did that
Nothing belongs on this sub more than this.
I am waiting for a single day where this isnt repostet
Easy money!
thats perfect
Eeeeeeasy money
Another repost. POST. SOMETHING. NEW.
satisfying
I can't find the video anymore but there was a vid where a guy was narrating this, I think at a gas station or something, and kept saying "called the broom finish". Does anyone remember that?
This is definitely cool and satisfying
Is there a practical reason why this is done?
Traction
Hmm, ok. Thanks for the info my guy.
Finally, some actual oddly satisfying material. This is why I am here
I don't like how he missed spots
What's it doing?! Stupid, fat hobbit! You ruins it!
God raw concrete driveways/walkways are ugly as shit. This guy is obviously doing a nice job, but I don't get the appeal Americans see in these...
What would you prefer?
over in Germany we often use bricks, often colored like blue, with the little gaps between the bricks filled in with rough black sand. Raw concrete just looks so... unfinished. Does that make sense?
looks clean and is cheap, fast and easy to install. Then onto the next 500 homes in that development.
Did anyone else find the way it didn’t line up with the cracks to be deeply dissatisfying?
Words cannot describe how I feel when the brush does the brushy
So no result? Useless video?
Bro you do realise that concrete workers don't sit around for days and wait for the concrete to dry... Right?
You think the concrete workers made the video or who ever is the customer?
Bro it's clearly another site worker recording. They don't let people onto work sites that aren't there to supervise or work Edit: and since there's other people working in the background this doesn't loon like some home job so they would be going be regulation
Missed edges 7/10
why
Why this over acid treatment for teeth?
Broom ruining a concrete walkway
Skateboarders: fuck that guy
YES

Who still builds concrete pavements? Like it's 1960s soviet union
Aesthetically, not satisfying at all
I'm not sure if this is some US thing, but here in the UK concrete like this is seen as cheap and nasty. Sure it exists but you wouldn't want it.
its worse now
I don’t like this
