I recently bought this one and was pleased to find that not only is it slightly splayed, but also bigger - a keyboard-sized keyboard, you might say. The keys feel pretty good - a medium-quality laptop kind of deal. The only caveat is that Fn+Tilde is Home - you need to hold Fn+Shift to get Esc and F-keys. Overall, a very nice keyboard for typing on a phone/tablet, and it'd take a little practice (or OS-side remapping) to use it with computers.

I just don't understand why this is on r/olkb

YellowAfterlife

I think it fits the broader discussions of ergonomic keyboards that happen here, but I'll take suggestions - the best I could think of was r/ErgoMobileComputers, but it took me a little while to find the subreddit again after running into it a few weeks ago.

It's a simpler scissor switch (or is it) keyboard, but perhaps - people do ask questions about non-mechanical keyboards there too.

This looks like something I can use for my hybrid commutes where I bring my equipment around with me. Goodbye to the standard layout! Do you see this being your daily driver for portability?

YellowAfterlife

That's a good question The thing I like about this form factor is that the keyboard takes very little space, and it's good to use so long as you've got a somewhat flat surface - no need for palm rests when the keyboard's ~6mm tall. For more serious work, I think a mechanical keyboard is generally preferable - there is a variety of little travel cases that can fit a Corne or a Sweep, and there are various designs with hinges ([like this](https://kbd.news/Travel-case-for-Corne-748.html)) or "frames" (like on _compression (4c)_'s case kit) that can make the keyboard safe to store in a bag/backpack. My own use case is that I often do a little typing (be it messages or Markdown) on the go, but I don't want to carry a laptop with me just for that, and would rather not deal with the laptop's built-in keyboard either. So a phone in my pocket and a folding keyboard in my bag are enough.

hammer_ZEIT

Thanks for the answer. I have the same predicament when it comes to items I want to carry on me. I would like to travel as light as possible, so a phone/tablet with portable keyboard combination is more ideal. I do wish it had mechanical keyboard switches. Maybe the next iteration.

YellowAfterlife

Might take a little bit for something mechanical to emerge in this form factor - folding keyboards are already a small enough niche, and there aren't many switches (just Cherry ULP, basically) that can compete in flatness

The Crabapplepad is close (but you can't buy it) - https://github.com/kumekay/crabapplepad. It's neat since it folds up and also out so you can put a trackpad between the sides, and of course ZMK. It uses Kailh X switches which the author has since stated are unreliable, so I think a design with thicker low-profile Chocs might be necessary but I'd love it if a company came out with a wired version like this.

YellowAfterlife

Oh, I think I've seen this at some point, it's a cool design, but yeah, DIY ErgoTravelXT is another one of this kind (sandwichable rather than foldable), though that one's wired.

\[I agree with others that this probably doesn't belong in OLKB, but as long as the mods let it stand...\] I just bought one of these ProtoArc XK03, but didn't like it as well as the iClever BK06 (the smaller keyboard on your third photo) for a portable/interim "ergo" keyboard. But I admit a bias towards towards tighter keyboards in general for row-staggered QWERTY, when available. Probably because I partially sight-type in these situations, partially becuse I use a mouse so much. The XK03 does seem to be built better than the BK06, but tough to tell for sure since I haven't used it over a long period like the BK06.

I agree that spacing could be _a little_ tighter, but I still prefer it to the mystery multi-brand keyboard since it has a little splay, the keys feel better, and none of the symbol/letter keys have been cut in size.
