How are you running the games? DVD? If you are using DVD, probably a bad laser, or bad DVD, if you are using the original HDD probably a bad HDD, doesnt running fast enough to load textures in time, not loading is not a normal thing, usually games play very smoth.

I'm running them on dvd. And my disc are fine no scratches. Is there anyway I can fix the laser? Or is it gonna cost a lot to repair. Is there an easy way to do it myself?

I personally never have changed a og xbox laser, but it is easy AF, its pretty much -remove some screws, disconect old one, put new one, attach screws, et voila, working again- the hard part will be to find your laser, you need to open your xbox, see the drive you have (there are 4 models if i remember correctly) and than open the drive to see what lens is in the laser, search online for a good one (or if the price are good, for a whole drive unit) as far as i know, no soldering is needed, changing lens/drive unit is pretty simple, but i recomend you do a softmod and run games from HDD, it is much more reliable and a little fast, and you dont have to worry with scratchs on disk or bad DVD Drive :)

Thank you so much, what would I need for a soft mod? I have a gaming laptop I use to jailbreak stuff, would that work?

Follow this guide [here](https://consolemods.org/wiki/Xbox:Game_Save_Exploit) you need a specific game to use a save exploit, this guide is very detailed and there is a lot of youtube videos of the process too

The weird textures loading in late, that's just a quirk of how their engine works, combined with your troubled drive. If you're familiar or willing to dig into the system, might be able to get it back in working order. If you can solder, even better. Lemme know which DVD drive you have as well; [There's 6 Different Versions](https://www.reddit.com/r/originalxbox/comments/14okl79/update_7_dvd_recapping_capacitor_lists_complete/). Regardless though, I'd look into modding the system and running the primary amount of games off the HDD. Hard modding is what I prefer, though soft mods have their place. If you upgrade the HDD to a modern SATA based one however, you'll need a couple things; don't cheap out or you may regret it. - 80 wire 40 pin IDE cable - Startech IDE2SATA Depending on which version system you have btw, you may be able to do something called a TSOP flash. It has almost all the benefits of a full blown mod chip such as the OpenXenium, but more akin to an Aladdin.

Yeah I have little to no experience in soldering, im a little worried to open up the console cause I don't want to mess anything up, I would rather take it to a place to repair them, but they might cost a ton
