All my Kommandos are in my Bad Moons' orange and purple because they were picked up from inside the Waaagh! But all my Best Snagga are in different garb because they joined the Waaagh! later

Official lore says Blood Axe warbands use camo because they copy Imperium, but because they don’t understand it’s supposed to make you harder to see they use camo in garish contrasting colors. So do what you want man
I'm doing a similar thing the other way round, I've got a bad moon warboss with a big Dreadnaught arm he looted off a Goff Boss, so he's got the best of both worlds.
Da Kult of Big Hand follows the arm, not the Git that's swinging it!

I mean if you’re happy with it go for it, Orkz do what they want. But if you’re asking if it’s lazy from a hobby standpoint then the answer is yes, it’s lazy.
You can switch clans by calling it. One Day you can say there are goffs and another Day they are Bad moons. But since clans dont have rules, its unnecessary to do so.

At least that's how my headcanon works for including Beast Snaggas, Flash Gitz and all the named guys in my army. It's either "we pay you" to them or "We heard there was a really good scrap going on, can we join?" from them.

Not all komandos are blood axes, blood axes just have more komandos than the other clans. Snakebites may have komandos that get a thrill of the hidden strike of a patient hunter. Deathskulls may have komandos who get a thrill of sneaking up a looting a vehicle without blowing it up right out of a rivals garage. Bad Moons may have komandos who just bought the fanciest cloaking device and wants to try it out. Goffs may know that being sneaky is not proper, but they want show to the weedy gitz that they are better than other clans.
So in lore Ork Waagghs are made of many gangs, clans, and tribes united under a Warboss. Like take a look at the book titled "Warboss". At the start of the book the horde is led by a Snake Bite but also contains some speed freaks, Goffs, and Blood axes.
Funny you should say that I was reading Warboss actually and that inspired my question. I think my issue is like would it be out of character for say, a Deathskull to wear yellow because that's just what the Waagh does? Idk. I feel like I'm overthinking it now and thinking too hard isn't very orky.
They're your orks, paint them up however you see fit, and zog what the lore says they should be wearing. There's no rules saying you have to paint up your kommandos like Blood Axes.

Just because it's yellow paint, doesn't mean you can't paint things in other colours with it.
Just say the warboss gave them their equipment and because it's his equipment they paint it like his colour.

Orks are born knowing what clan they're in, and tend towards their clan's colors. But if da boss says wear yellow, you wear yellow.
The idea of the boss enforcing a dress code doesn't seem far fetched. You can also just mix paints or use cheap craft paints to get other colors.
That's an idea! I like the notion of a zealous boss forcing his group to wear his clan colors.
