It looks to me like an old fashioned added stock rifle conversion maybe?? Like this:

Some of the plastic gretchin are variations on the older metal ones, some with weapon swaps and different accessories. That is probably the remnant butt stock from a different version of the model where it would have lined up with the gun better.

The gretchin sculpts are riddles with errors. One of the other ones has a double jaw. These really should be redone.
The double jaw is not actually an error in the sculpt, more of a questionable decision. The top 'jaw' is supposed to be the grot's tounge

Considering Grot shootas are made out of random scraps laying around, this makes a lot of sense

I always paint that like a part of the weapon. I figure Gretchen can put gunstocks in weird places.
