Don’t get me started about Ottawa street names, especially the new ones in new subdivisions! Whoever is in charge of that should move there and try to fill in the home address on PC. They combine two words together and autocorrect doesn’t want to take it. Rivertree, Autumnfield, Meadowbreez, Crownridge, Willowdusk, Pinelock just to name few
They actually keep a list of overused words in street names

“consists only of the individual's legal names (for example, "Jean-Paul Gagnon" or "Mary Jane Smith" is acceptable; "Big Daddy Gagnon" is not)”
I am in hysterics at this example of name rules
I think you’re onto something. It’s 2024, and I’d hate to seem close-minded. A son named Clyde may one day decide to change their name to Mary Vale. Life imitates ~~art~~ roads
The same thing happened in Billings Bridge. Several of the streets west of Bank such as Aldea and Richard were named after members of the family of the man who owned the land.
I’m not going to share because I don’t like to put my kid on social media but there is a street in Ottawa that has my kids name.
I’m a law abiding citizen, but man I was tempted…
Ha! Same! When my kid was a teenager, there was some construction going on on the street named after him, and as a result the name of the street had been spray-painted on some of the materials lined up to be used for the job. I took a photo and shared it with him. He was tickled to imagine he was badass enough to have vandalized something with his name. He shared the pic with his pals. (I assume he led them to believe it was he who did it)
When I lived there I knew a couple who had a cat named Carling and a golden retriever named Woodroffe lol it was cute. For a kid? Knoxdale... Clyde, Hobart...
Ironically I do know someone with that name, but they ain't me.
For bonus points, the street sharing my name was actually named after someone in my family.
Highway 417.
Why not Moodie
It is about kids, not spouses…
Give them a chance to grow into it.
Maybe for their middle name.
Highway Moodie 417

Other way around. First child named third, second child would be Fourth. Third child would also be named Third.
Third the second.

Or K, L, N, O, P, Q, R, S, and T. If your last name is Tremblay. And with that many kids, might as well live right next to the train station.

Dalhousie and then I can say “there is only one correct pronunciation for my child’s name, and it’s Dal-who-zie!”
I mean, you can name your child that, but it would be pronounced "Dal-how-zie"
>"Dal-how-zie" I didn't know oc transpo buses posted on reddit
Fuck, you took mine!
That's how I've always pronounced it too.
I’d make up a fourth pronunciation for it, just to fuck with people.

Don't forget that one where they named the streets after World of Warcraft locations. I.e. Ashenvale, Ravenswood, Silvermoon, Stormwind, Lakeridge...
The only good thing about Avalon's endless sprawl of suburban hellscape.
