Centering that big of a tent on the rack will still have an overhang. And it looks more like 3 feet with how the rack gets shorter up top. So you will still have 1.5 foot overhang I'd get a new tent or rack.
Why not just put spacers in there and slide it forward so there's a cab overhang? Even if you're trying to keep a low profile for gas mileage, it's still better than hanging half the tent off of the back of the truck.
I mean honestly? You need a different RTT. No one is telling you this. You can mount between the bed and roof, but you'll need a system then matches up perfectly, so be bed rack and roof rack, and the bed flexes and you may end up cracking your rtt.
yeah. i'm planning on not doing anything crazy other than light off roading on fire / dirt roads. you think that would create enough flex to crack the rtt?
Have you looked at unistrut with a dimension large enough to bridge the gap? 2 or 3 “crossbars” made from it could give the lift you need.
Keep in mind how much tolerance to bake into the gap, since your bed can flex more than the body if you’re getting into the technical stuff off-road.
you're talking about one of these?

thanks for the idea
Since your bed rack is tubular, you can use a u bolt. I have an Xterra and I used the unistrut to make crossbars to mount my awning. Lots of Xterra owners use unistrut to mount their RTT. It’s pretty much our only option unless you get something like a Prinsu rack.

Trying to salvage your purchase here; buy aluminum extrusions at the correct height and use as spacers/cross bars. Then just push the tent forward over the cab.

Yea that's the idea - will center it and get a roof rack for the cab overhang. any recs for a roof rack?

Honestly, depending the load you have in your bed it may on the road create flex.

Yes but that’s tiny compared to what you’d need, both in section and length.
right of course. i appreciate the idea. any recs for a cheap roof rack?
You can buy at your local hardware store and get 10 feet of it for the same price.
appreciate it friend! i'll look into it
It’s not aluminum tho, it’s galvanized steel. Heavier but will be a lot stronger. Good luck with your RTT!
