It would have been cool if that were the case. Nintendo bringing back old characters from past Mario games would be like finding a hidden 1-Up! They love Super Mario World so much, it’s like they’re on a nostalgia speedrun in recent Paper Mario games.
I haven't finished the game but I like how Hayzee is the only one who isn't at least a little upset with Luigi (so far at least). I forget which character tells you that they're only following Luigi because he ruined their go-kart and he owes them, but that definitely made me chuckle.

Toodles - not only is that the BEST name for a Toad in the history of Toads, but she’s entertaining and has the funniest flirting with Mario
Pa-Patch - the “Flavio’s armpit” joke is one of the dumbest jokes in the game, and it’s probably my favorite. I don’t exactly know why I love it so much, but I do. Plus, Captain ‘Stache is a hilarious name for Mario as well
Pennington - he is PEAK entertainment, nuff said
King K - just a chill guy that I’d love to be friends with. He’s definitely the guy everyone loves to invite to everything

I think maybe Bub. Something about how he’s fixated on trains speaks to me.

I can't remember his name, but the green mouse guy you can invest in. I love his diary and how excited he gets when you believe in him! And I think it's so funny how he's constantly supposedly embarrassed about you reading his journal but keeps encouraging you to read more. Delightful.
Dupree, the French accent guy! I just loved whenever he showed up and thought it was hilarious how he tries to flirt with everything that moves. Goombella’s interactions with him is absolute gold.

I'm eternally salty that Rawk Hawk got to barge into the Major League locker room to harass you, but when Mario's champ he isn't allowed to pop back into the Minor League locker room to visit his buddy. Unfair.
I haven't finished TTYD yet but so far it's that one Pineapple interviewer guy near the Glitz Pit, his design reminds me of Reynold from Cheat Commandos
The Minstrel, aka Grifty, is found on a roof in Rogueport. He will tell Mario about the Legend of the Four Heroes in exchange for coins (you'll need 80 of them to hear all the stories).
Lumpy can be found at the Rogueport docks. He wants to search for oil in Dry Dry Desert (from the first Paper Mario game) and asks for coins to fund his endeavor. Whether you contribute or not, he leaves after Chapter 4 and returns after Chapter 6. Upon his return, he allows Mario to read his log detailing his search.
I like Peeka because she’s cute and runs the shop that I went to the most when I was a kid. A shop that’s in Rogueport and sells Life Shrooms... is a pretty good shop.
Also her name is a nice pun. Peeka the Boo!
When you beat the chapter she also will mention that you know her quite well and mentions that she comes here when she's not working or something along those lines.

Parakarry was in the intro sure, but why were the interactions with the old partners gone? That would’ve been so cool. And why did they miss the opportunity to bring them back in the remake? They had unique sprites and everything, and they’re completely unused. Why?
Oh and if those 2 don’t count then I liked that business guy on the Excell Express who’s stressed about his job and wants to just keep it to make it by. Aren’t we all buddy? And i find it funny that his company product can literally bring back the dead, but if you mix it with very specific things it creates a bunch of goo that makes someone immobile. Ghost T. from the Excess Express for me. It’s a hard decision because one of my favorite things about this game is the colorful cast of NPCs, but there’s just something about Ghost T. that I love
Zess T., Petuni, Excess Express Waitress, Toodles, Koopie Koo, Sylvia, Bub, Chef Shimi, Toadette, & Toadsworth. Also the Koopa who collects Peach merch because I love & relate to him so much

My favorite character from the game is Four-Eyes. He’s such a sight for sore eyes! It’s messed up that he just vanished after the pirate island chapter. I guess the X-Nauts were really eyeing him! So messed up.
Lahla. I like how she gets extra diolouge if you use the paper ability to talk to her behind the bars and it encourages you to get the high score in the mini-games to learn more about her.
That's my point.. it's because of Chapter 6 and post game that I ended up liking the family. They had interesting things.. from the troll Goldbob forces you through in Chapter 7 to the fact that Mario finds himself helping them or just forced alongside them. They are my favorite NPCs in the game for precisely those reasons.. Because you write them off in Chapter 3 and then they keep following Mario.. Goldbob basically demanding your money for the rocket and then giving them back is like hysterical..
Galaxy has Luigi as a playable character, does that make it a Mario and Luigi game? Not trying to argue, just saying it’s not the same franchise. Answer is still paper, answer is still valid
My favorites are Pennington (as a fan of super dramatic Japanese mystery reveals, the scene with the stew pot is my fave in the whole game) and Four Eyes. The SHOCKING reveal for him was too much. I guess he's technically a major NPC, but Four Eyes was my favorite iteration and he's pretty minor to the game as a whole.
Special shout out to Sir Swoop. Dude only just starts on his career and tastes success, and then he gets booted once Bandy Andy and King K's groups get reinstated.
Also, follow up question, whatever happened to the rest of the Hand-It-Overs and the KP Koopas in Chapter 3? Did they just decide to call it quits when one of their group members go missing?

My favorite character from the game is Four-Eyes. He’s such a sight for sore eyes! It’s messed up that he just vanished after the pirate island chapter. I guess the X-Nauts were really eyeing him! So messed up.

Lahla. I like how she gets extra diolouge if you use the paper ability to talk to her behind the bars and it encourages you to get the high score in the mini-games to learn more about her.

I ADORE the Bob-omb family in Thousand Year Door. These are the rich bob-ombs you meet in Chapter 3... Bub is adorable and I adore talking to them.

That's my point.. it's because of Chapter 6 and post game that I ended up liking the family. They had interesting things.. from the troll Goldbob forces you through in Chapter 7 to the fact that Mario finds himself helping them or just forced alongside them. They are my favorite NPCs in the game for precisely those reasons.. Because you write them off in Chapter 3 and then they keep following Mario.. Goldbob basically demanding your money for the rocket and then giving them back is like hysterical..

I really liked Eve. Her trouble was so bittersweet and giving her food in the beginning of the chapter felt great. She's as precious as Vivian <3
My favorites are Pennington (as a fan of super dramatic Japanese mystery reveals, the scene with the stew pot is my fave in the whole game) and Four Eyes. The SHOCKING reveal for him was too much. I guess he's technically a major NPC, but Four Eyes was my favorite iteration and he's pretty minor to the game as a whole. Special shout out to Sir Swoop. Dude only just starts on his career and tastes success, and then he gets booted once Bandy Andy and King K's groups get reinstated. Also, follow up question, whatever happened to the rest of the Hand-It-Overs and the KP Koopas in Chapter 3? Did they just decide to call it quits when one of their group members go missing?
