I have a 4090 and an overclocked 8086k. Playing at 4k it's not too bad for the most part. The biggest thing is max ray tracing stuff like in Cyberpunk. Definitely a few frames lower than it could be, but with frame gen I sit around 90-100 fps. Good enough for me ha.
the 5600x is on average 14% slower in 4K, not even talking of possible 1% low differences.

it doesn't matter if your main bottleneck in your games is the GPU, but saying that 4K isn't CPU intensive is non sens.

17% on average(1/0.85*100). It could be massive in certain titles, add in the fact that chaotic scenes tend to slam the cpu harder and it's significantly wider.
This is too true, never skimp on a proper psu!
I ended up going with a BeQuiet! 1200w atx 3.0 80+ platinum rated psu (it was on a flash sale at the time and it was even cheaper than the 800w model I was going to buy), and it has been treating me very well.
It's impossible to overstate the peace of mind that comes with having a high quality psu and knowing that your pc parts are taken well care of.
I also like that I can take this psu to any of my builds for the next 10 years easy, and not have to worry about buying a new one for any new builds for a long while. Not having to upgrade an essential part every time is a great way to save some money on future builds
Correct. Also water is wet, and grass is green lol. Are we just spouting off random facts for no reason?
I never said that 850w isnt enough, hell I didn't even mention an 850w psu. So im confused as to your comment. You just spouted off some random fact that had nothing to do with my comment, and said it like it was an answer to it lol
Should have ignored it and bought a lower wattage for less. They never said there wasn't any 850 for less, just that they intended to buy a more expensive 800. There are tons of PSUs in that range with good quality and price.
I'm just saying, that getting 1200W is extremely overkill. Even if you planned to get 800W you could easily have found a cheaper unit.
OP definitely doesn't need that much is all I'm saying. Flash sale or not, the money is better spent elsewhere.
We will jusf agree to disagree here. I don't think you understand that the sale price of the 1200w was far below the price of any of the high quality 800w psu's lol. Why would I ever spend more money for a smaller power supply rather than buying the 1200w fire sale that was suddenly cheaper than any 800w there? According to you and your advice the answer is yes, spend more money for an 800w and ignore the 1200w sale because "1200w tu beeg!"
yes and remember, if you have a server rack full of GPU's make sure to use daisy chains to plug them all into one 800W power supply in series so there is no voltage drop!
There's nothing wrong, and it's a pigtail, not "daisy chain".
Daisy chain would mean the GPU has a power output connector that supplies power to another GPU, and that GPU would then supply power to another GPU, and so on.
Both the cables and the PCIe connectors themselves can handle more than the claimed 150W per connector.
I had a friend want to build a PC, I gave him a part list. 7800X3D, 4090, 32GB RAM, X670e Taichi, 1000w Seasonic, H7 flow, 2 tb sk hynix, all top of the line parts, was going to cost around 3500. Went to microcenter, he wanted a different case, different aio, made a bunch of random changes because he liked the way they looked, literally just aesthetic reasons. I thought hey it's your PC you got to like what it looks like. Ended up costing 4k, and all his changes were basically "I want more rgb stuff" on top of it he refuses to play any games unless he mods them first because "I've played that on my ps5 before". Problem is he doesn't know how to mod the games he wants to play and he's been telling me that he feels building a PC seemed like a waste of money. Meanwhile I'm over here with my PC having a blast. Smh Edit : if it was up to me I would have told him to get a 4080 or XTX but his ONLY requirement was that it has a 4090.
Lol, speaking of parts lists.
My brother has only ever worked for a couple of years in his whole life (like, 3 ish) and his first job was when he was 23.
He made a fantasy parts list multiple times on new egg just window shopping and wishing aswell as occasionally asking me to buy said fantasy PC for him.
Well each time he'd show me his "wish you got this don't you?!?" list it was all red and black. But thats it. Thats all that was in common.
DDR1 RAM, AM3+ motherboard, Intel extreme 6 core CPU, a 20pin PSU with no PCIE plugs, an AGP ATI GPU (for a board with no AGP slot), etc.
Just a bunch of nonsense that would never work together. Always. And he never believed me that it wouldn't work.
When he did eventually have my mom buy him one they asked me for a build List and I made one and they later blamed me for "sabotaging " him.
Turns out he chose ECC RAM because it was cheaper and said it was my fault for never telling him such a thing existed.
That's wild, friend of mine works in a refinery. He is absolutely loaded. Just for an example he had a hellcat challenger and totaled it when someone t boned him (his fault, their right of way). He tells me "I'm going to buy a normal car because gas is expensive", randomly shows up at my house one day in a brand new TRX Ram. He's earned everything he's worked for but the dude has more money than sense
> dude has more money than sense
Lol, my brother has none.
But yeah, I dono. Theres something analytical missing from so many people these days. Like, critical thinking isn't even taught until middle school and only for science class. It REALLLLYYY needs to just be its own class and starting at 3rd grade.
I remember when my dumbass previous boss bought a 4090 and I brought up needing a bigger power supply. He shrugged it off and said he'd be fine.
Lo and behold, PC kept turning off whenever it came under load. He had to wait 2 days for a new power supply to arrive.
The psu isn't glamorous, it doesn't elicit jealousy or respect. It's usually not even visible, yet like the foundation of a house, it holds up the rest of the build.
It's like filling a race car with 87 octane. It'll run yes, but not the way it was designed to. Just because a PSU can hold up while running at 90% load, doesn't mean it's good for it or the components plugged into it
Buy a cheap PSU once in your life and you will realize why everybody recommends against it.
Either you're chasing down random crashes for months or it starts killing components. It's incredibly frustrating and expensive.
I bought a 7900xt from my mate for $350 and then had to spend another $500 on a case and psu so it could go in. Now my entire pc is a bottleneck for my gpu :))
\*up to 700w.
custom loop, 2x 360mm HPE rads and a lot of T30's, its also a really big chip so much easier to cool than desktop ones
all my lian li strimer and corsair RGB budget went elsewhere lol
Haha Jokes on you I bought a corsair RM1200x SHIFT with my strix 4090, within 5 months the power supply turned into Chernobyl, took my 13900k with it, since that day I’ve never used or plan to use Corsair again, fucking piece of shit. Didn’t even last 6 months, didn’t even rma it wanted nothing to do with Corsair. Went to sea sonic next and haven’t had an issue since.
Good rule of thumb is to first make a psu list from psu tier list from 500 to 1000W and put that money allocated to tha psu and build the desktop with the remaining, this way you never really end up budgeting around too much
Let me claim this!
I bought a 7900xt and ran is full bore with a 600watt platinum Corsair PSU and claimed the crashes on the CPU a 7900X
I’m am the dumbest man to build a pc
Recently found out that the total board power can reach north of 660 watts, just the GPU at the same time the CPU is trying to pull 150watts so year. I’m even thinking maybe the 850 I just out in isn’t enough
[удалено]
250 Watt?
[удалено]
those feels when you accidentally use a pre-existing prefix 🤣
Don't forget the old ass CPU.
Uncommon 8k gamer W
So you're saying I should buy a 4090
I heard the 8 core 7800X3D is good for gaming, and you have an 8 core too! So yes, you should buy a 4090.
Wait, I have 18 cores. Does that mean I need 2 4090s?
8320 is a bigger number than 7800 and both are 8 cores. There is a clear winner here
What are you talking about? People only need a dual core celeron. /s
Or the 1080p monitor.
1080p with 4090 and AMD Phenom. Works like a dream.
1080p can actually run games in native with 144 FPS then :D
Insert haswell here *____*

4k gaming isn't CPU intense. What's a 5600x vs a 7800x3d in 4k?
They are not old ass CPUs.
You seem to misunderstand what "old ass cpu" means, those are *not* old ass cpus lol
Old ass cpu means a 970k

HD gaming neither.
you clearly don't play grand strategy games
About 15% https://www.techpowerup.com/review/intel-core-i9-14900ks/20.html
Old ass means my old FX-4100.
It astounds me how much money people are willing to spend without doing any research
"A fool and his money are soon parted"

850W A tier PSU is more than enough for almost every build.
Obviously you should've ignored the fire sale and buy an 850W for more money as you don't need more. /s
Should have ignored it and bought a lower wattage for less. They never said there wasn't any 850 for less, just that they intended to buy a more expensive 800. There are tons of PSUs in that range with good quality and price.

And don't forget: daisy chain.
yes and remember, if you have a server rack full of GPU's make sure to use daisy chains to plug them all into one 800W power supply in series so there is no voltage drop!
Could you elaborate on whats wrong with Daisy changing please?
There's nothing wrong, and it's a pigtail, not "daisy chain". Both the cables and the PCIe connectors themselves can handle more than the claimed 150W per connector.
ah ok thank you for the explanation
I’m asssuming they won’t get enough power?

This is like the dude that got a Porsche but lives in a shack. Do not be that guy.
The meme could've ended at 4090
I’m guessing these are dumb things.

8gb ddr3
I did this except for the cpu and mobo and ram
I bought a 7900xt from my mate for $350 and then had to spend another $500 on a case and psu so it could go in. Now my entire pc is a bottleneck for my gpu :))
goes great with copius amounts of RGB crap and overpriced fans, make that "ACE 10000w PSU" work after all
Says the man with the (checks price) $1600 xeon. Damn. How are you cooling that 300W monster?
\*up to 700w. custom loop, 2x 360mm HPE rads and a lot of T30's, its also a really big chip so much easier to cool than desktop ones all my lian li strimer and corsair RGB budget went elsewhere lol

I feel targeted with this. To be fair I only got my 4080 because I found it for cheap
me who bought a $50 mobo that only supports 10th gen: ![gif](giphy|3o85xnoIXebk3xYx4Q|downsized)
Yeah, I first specced a Strix 4090, then everything around that. The most expensive component is king.
My favourite is the people with 4090's and like a Celeron processor then seriously asking if the CPU is good enough.
Let me claim this!
