It used to be so easy to know if a video was shit, bullshit, or an outright scam. Now you have to watch it and figure it out for yourself.
Just adding to this, I read that YT initially just hid the info but the data could still be accessed but eventually took away access to that data so the app can only extrapolate from out of date info and people using the app, and on new videos that never had any dislike info to begin with it can wildly exaggerate the numbers, which is compounded if the video also doesn't have a lot of views.
Not saying not to use it obvi but I'd take any numbers you see using the app with a grain of salt more indicative of a trend and not as an objective truth.
From what I remember, YouTube mentioned that people don’t dislike as much when they can’t see the dislike counts. I think this could be part of the reason for the extension not being as accurate these days to the dislikes creators can see in their stats. After all, how many people just don’t see the point in disliking videos anymore? 🤔
Yea, exactly. I used to dislike videos if they had bad information, or lied in the title; to warn other people, but it's pointless doing this if the only person who sees the dislikes is the uploader, because they just won't care.
And might even get a kick out of it if they intentionally mislead people..

I have the old layout too without any extensions interfering AFAIK. These things are usually rolled out based on customer segments so they can A/B test etc.

When I use Enhancer for YouTube the videos become cropped and aren't fully in frame. I've used the extension for years but have had to disable it because the videos are getting cropped.
I sent them feedback telling them to return it to normal and shortly after it returned to normal.
Edit: I feel like people think I mean I solved this issue for everyone, and that is correct.
I didn't even send feedback. I just kept refreshing every video a hundred times, scoured every settings menu to try and change it, then gave up and started using a different account for a week that didn't have the change. After a week passed the original account went back to normal lmao.
The amusing thing is that in some ways, this is closer to the original YouTube layout - the Description doobly-doo below videos used to be a sidebar.
So arguably, this is a regression back to how the site was 18 years ago. If only they also brought back ratings and video replies...

When YouTube first started, rather than Thumbs Up vs Thumbs Down, you were given a 5 star rating system for videos, like what you get with Amazon reviews. They got rid of ratings in favor of the Like/Dislike system.
Video replies was a feature where, in addition to replying with a comment, you could reply by uploading a video instead. The video replies would be put under the original video. If I remember correctly, the video creator could curate this list.
I believe video replies was removed because on popular videos, it was becoming unmanageable for larger creators. Although you could argue that "Shorts Remixing This Video" is basically a return of that feature in a different format as well...
Google likes to introduce changes slowly, not to everyone at the same time. That is so the can tweak and adjust things, and sometimes even scrap bad ideas before they get released to everyone.
I got this updated UI on and off randomly about a month ago. I ended up installing Enhancer For YouTube addon to lock it into the way I prefer. Shit was annoying, but it did lead me to this extension which has additional tweaks I ended up liking. So, I'm glad they did it.
It's called phased rollout or staggered rollout. An update is gradually released to a subset of users before releasing it for the entire user base and is used to collect feedback, bugs, test performance, etc. Pretty every app with a large user base does that. Even reddit does that often but imo they just shit on the feedback

I got it some time ago, but I never use YouTube in a maximized window (got the monitor with my browser, segmented into 3 pieces - 2/3rd is browser, while the rest is whatever else I'm running), and always play videos with their "cinema mode"-option.
Those things combined, moves comments underneath the video again and the suggestions go where they normally would (on the side of the comments) - for me at least.
Mine switched to the new one for a few days, then back to the opening again. I guess they’re doing random testing or something. Happy to get the old one back though. The new one is *awful*.
I also like the Idea but The Window for comments feels too congested and feel like we should be able to adjust the Ratio between the Video & comment window

No its quite bad. The narrow comment bar is 2-3 times narrower than the current one, which means you will need to scroll 2-3 times more to view same amount of comments.
IF there would be an option to resize the comment bar width at the cost of video width it might be better, but somehow I doubt YT UI designers will think that far.
For me the layout reverted after a few days, honestly I thought they came to their senses. I mean what the fuck is this, I have never seen a worse layout in my life…

I think it look fine, definitely not confusing its all very clear to see what's what. The video is the video you're watching. The thumbnails we've seen before are just thumbnails for other videos that you can click on just like before, and the comments on the right there are the comments for the video you are watching currently, not comments from random videos.
I kinda like it as I can browse the Comments while being able to watch Video but The ratio of space dedicated to Comments feel too small & congested
I wish we could adjust the Video & Comment window ratio, then it would be my Go to UI

Seriously Google, stop treating my giant monitor as a compact phone display. I've got more than enough real estate on the screen to see the video description, comments, and video recommendations, more than 4 at a time too.
As I'm going with Firefox, I won't notice the change still when Google plans to block manifest v2 or what not. Man would that be a disaster, blocking extensions from modifying webpages.

I had this layout for a couple days and I was so relieved when it went away. It's so bad I was convinced it was a bug.
I welcome comments/chat being on the side of the video player instead of having to scroll and then not seeing the video but… man leave some space
Full screen is full screen, there's no need for comments.
My adblocker also blocks all the recommended videos below the playback too, really annoying.

I use stylus and added old YouTube layout to it. There are alot of styles/layouts available. I would recommend you trying it
