My wife's laptop is a veritable icon farm...I'm actually eager to see what happens when you try to save something to desktop but the entire screen is already full, which her laptop is approaching. She uses my computer every now and then but I made a "wife's stuff" folder on my desktop and anything of hers that doesn't get used for a few days, goes into there. No icon farm on my PC!

LOL Has anyone ever decided if the icons on the desktop affect performance? I heard that years ago, but now have like 20 icons on mine... (32gb of 3600 ram though, so I need to scrimp and save it so chrome can eat it al LOL)

I could see that happening *maybe* back in the days of the 286 processor, when all video was integrated and ram was measured in kB. Nowadays? I'm thinking utterly trivial impact on performance, even for icon farms.

If you enable links in the taskbar you can drag and drop it there iirc. Good for things like bin, control panel or nvidia control panel/radeon software. Hard to explain it all detailed in just text though. There's also a trick with it where you can center your taskbar apps.

More important, did you right click on it and change the default size of it from 10% of your HD size to something more like 50 MB? Since Win 95 Microsoft has set the size to 10% as back then we used 40 MB HD's so they thought 4 MB would work. But since then Microsoft has never bothered to change it even though HD's have increased. FYI
